Has someone managed to dump the rom of Samsung F700???
I've seen some ppl talk about it, that it has the same chip like the kaiser but with the good video drivers.
So has someone tried to ripp the drivers off?? Or has someone managed to dump the ROM?
The F700 doesn't run on Windows Mobile so a firmware dump seems quite useless.
Has someone tried to extract the video drivers??
Edit the drivers so it would be competible or something??
It has been tried from other devices with the drivers and same chipset, yet no easy transfer, but it might be possible with a lot of work and effort.
If we could have a dump that would be awsom !!!!!!!!!

Too bad no1 has tried to dump it.
THERE IS NOTHING RELEVANT TO DUMP!!!
Guys, this is not a smartphone. There is no windows mobile or linux or any other operating system relevant to what we do here. This is just a standard phone with some fancy things in it.
For all intents & purposes there is no ROM, no EXT_ROM & you can't add applications to it like WM devices!

Admin plz slot this!
From Expansys:
It supports GSM, EDGE, 3G/WCDMA and also HSDPA going up to 7.2 Mbps. The phone comes with a full HTML browser, Bluetooth, a microSD Expansion slot. The phone doesn’t run Windows Mobile or any other smartphone OS, but it seems to have all the features that any smartphone user would need, except of course, the ability to install new applications.

However, I just got off the phone with a buddy at Samsung & he has confirmed that it's actually a Custom Java type interface wrapped over Linux.
DEFINITELY NOT SYMBIAN THOUGH
I am just looking at the Files right now and i think it's based on Linux or Java. I Also seen a file where is code for DVB-H Television. If i have an update about the OS i will place it here.
As there are many devices with the same CPU as the Kaiser, this thread belongs in development and hacking more than it does in Kaiser ROM development. Thread moved.

Hi!
I just want to know if there is some success for getting Linux on the XDA? I've read that at the CCC Summercamp some people wanted to get starzted with it...
Damn i missed the camp... i live in Berlin, so it wouldnt have been a long travel :-(

Linux on XDA
Hi,
Just a quick update without any concrete stuff for people to play with yet. Basically good progress was made and a first very bare version of linux on the XDA can be expected soon (say within a month). Note that very bare means you can't do anything with it. However it will be a jump start installation to kickoff porting periperal support to it for anyone who wants to have a go at it.
does it mean that the guys from OPIE will be able to port their system in the near future with these guys from FAMILAR LINUX ?
I've read that they want to program a telephone api as well...
It would be great because Windows CE is not a OS stable enough for a Phone.
I can't imagine I have a phone have to reset every single day.

I reset my phone most mornings. Switch my XDA on to find that cooked in the XDA-Developers Kitchen Screen! I begin to believe that it actually switches off, not stand by.
This in-stability is the main reason I am moving on to a more stable Symbion device for my main phone. Pop a pay as you go chip in my XDA, it is one kick as toy!!

In fact, there's an app/lib called gammu on Linux, which is a pretty generic phone manipulating/controlling software. It supports various type of phones including different models of nokia mobiles as well as generic gsm modems, etc.
I've written a phone app for the iPAQ (with the GSM/GPRS sleeve) on linux using this library. The current opie ipaq-phone actually uses gammu as well. So maybe at some point we may go from there.
http://www.mwiacek.com/english/gsm/gammu/gammu.html
I've also thought about starting to do a GPE phone too...
so it seems that everything which is missing, is a port of familar Linux to XDA...
i really would like to help, but i'm no C(++) developer... and i guess Linux is NOT written in Java
We seem all to be waiting for a version to leak of the CE 5.0 for our devices, and at the same time we seem to think that this will not happen due to the fact our providers are going to want to ship it on new devices and not upgrade the old ones.
Well Mwang put me in the mood to do some searching and this is what I found.
Because Windows CE is in components, you can create a custom version of the OS that includes exactly the elements your particular device requires—no more and no less. Using the Windows CE development tool called Platform Builder, you can create a customized version of the OS, called an "image," that you then download onto your device hardware for debugging. If your hardware is not available yet, you can run your image and debug your applications on the included x86 emulator. That allows the end-user application developer and the low-level system software developer to work in parallel on the same project.

Well it seems that you can download a 120 days trial version which would mean you would have to flash your device in 120 days.
Windows CE Evaluation Version
Windows CE integrates reliable real-time capabilities with advanced Windows technologies to rapidly build a wide range of innovative, small-footprint devices. The evaluation version is a 120-day trial version of Windows CE, valid from the day of installation. The CD and DVD versions include a copy of Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 Service Pack 4. The Evaluation Edition (download) requires you to download eMbedded Visual C++ separately.

Does this work for you gues ?
I tried this a while back.
Its not as easy as it sounds, firstly you have to correctly setup all the drivers for the hardware.
I wouldnt garantee that it has stuff like the phone apps ready to be compiled in either.
lastly, you have to make it into the correct format for the installer prog, I dont know if the package will output a himaupload.exe compatible rom.
Let me know how you guys do though, it would be nice to compile our own OS!
It's installing on my computer  i want it on my PPC
Well I found a 30 min tutorial on the platform builder and it looks like a lot of the stuff is around (Wifi), What we will miss is the camrea app, but hell its a start.
Ps cant find that link anymore, and the posted link works great.

Im sure it's a 120 days from the day you install it on your Desktop PC :?
definatly not as easy as you think!
i had the older version and i made some images for X86 machines (to make them thin clients)
you need every driver for the device that it will be installed on so theres alot more required than just the platform builder,
check it out anyway, its still fun to use and you can make custom CE's for old PII machines (routers, thin clients etc)
Well Bosjo, would that not give you 119 days to post a BA Rom?
@MDAIIIUser
Well i dont know, but Im guessing that the ROM itself will expire 120 after Desktop installation
@bosjo
Well you better hurry up and do good documentation so that I can rebuild your posted rom in 118 days.
@MDAIIIUser
Ha ha ha, well don't get your hopes up, Im just a plumber that bought a BA to save some time and get projects more organized........... Well that what just to be a laughf, this device has eaten every spare second I have had since the day i bought it, and it's still crappy...............
What? You mean you can use it as a phone, thought it was only good for the pocket solitair, how did you do it? and can I read it on wiki?
You see I am True born again MDAIIIUser and
"I haveth faith in thou"
I've pu the windows CE 5.0 installer in the upload folder
Good job you got this , see your pm
Hmmm... well, if someone can create a ROM that won't expire or brick my device, I'm willing to help with testing...
Let me know if you need me...
hehe. Its impossible to create WM2005 from the stuff offered with the trial WinCE 5.0 Platform builder.
Hint: WM5 has version 5.1. PB offers 5.0
im wondering.. where would you get ALL the drivers from? im sure HTC will not be willing to help us here..
@Manich
I truly respect your post and I am very much aware of not having your knowlege, insight, understanding, hacking competence.
That is why I am amember of this forum, to learn from people like yourself in order to try and get the best for my device. To share what I have learnt with others (I use wiki for that).
So please, please share with us a better idea of how we can get 2005 on a BA. It would save me a lot of time searching on the net, uploading sdk that are of no use as well as moving files on the ftp.
A "it cant be done answer" I could accept if it came from somebody else without your knowlege and I remember reading that somebody wrote something along the lines if it can run it can be cracked (smile).
With alll due respect
MDAIIIUser
Generally it cannot be done as you don't have a board support package for BA or other compatible platform. With lots of hacking and reverse engeneering you can write all drivers and all applications absent from Platform Builder (like cprog, SMS client, SIM toolkit, etc), but it would be only a waste of time. It would take as much time and would be as useless as making a Linux for BA. Better buy a device that originally ships with OS you want.
The only hope for getting WM5 on BA is that some person from MS would offer it or someone would get a device with such a ROM. Even a locked device with a signed ROM would help.
hey is it possible to port iphone os on BA as they have similar specs if its possible i would like to join the team trying to port it
the specs are not that similar, starting of with the display resolution of 320*480, so it would have to be scaled. the iphone cpu is clocked at 620 Mhz, which might be essential to the speed of the os. plus you couldn't get the camera to work, the bluetooth or the wlan. i also doubt the phone would work. and even if all that was avoided. and the system ran, what would be so great about it? without the multi touch support, the accelerometer and stuff like that you wouldn't be able to control the phone properly.
my point is: the hardware is completely different. it wouldn't work out properly. and even if you took a device to port it to, that could actually handle Apple Mac OS X v1.0 (ARM) and have motion sensor, what would be the point, the system is not exactly better than WM, and if you just like the interface, i would recommend a skinpack, s2u2 and other stuff to make it look like an iphone.
i can see that porting it could still be interesting and i would apreciate seeing a project like that, don't get me wrong
Yeah well i do get what you mean btw i was thinking of using some of wm files to make wifi, camera, bluetooth etc to work and i would have the scale the screen size to the ba one and i would find a way to add virtual ram from sd card so the mhz wont be a problem but i need other people to help me such as xplode and the guy who ported wm6 to BA
i want to do this as i have ported android on ba and i really want iphone os to work with an ancient phone like Ba
first i did not ported wm6 to BA, i ported WM 6.1, helmi_c ported WM6
iphone OS i usless as it is, it is linux based so it is possible to run basic on any WM device like they did with android and linux distros
i can not do much because i have not much linux knowledge
ok i will find people with lots of linux knowledge and would u be able to get drivers soft and stuff to add on so it can read the wifi etc
this may helps u

Hello Friends,
I have a question for all of the mobile developers. You might think I'm Joking. But its Serious. Is there any way to run android apps(2.1-2.3) in HTC HD2(Leo) which is running Windows Mobile? Many People Say 'NO'. But emulation of any OS is possible. We all thought that we can run PS2 games only on Sony Playstation 2 but we were proved wrong by PCSX2 by launching first PS2 Emulator. So I want to know is there any emulator by which I can run android apps on my HTC HD2? Its difficult but I think XDA Developers can make this type of emulators. It will also help thousands of people. I am an IT Professional and a software developer(Windows) but i don't know about developing apps for mobile. Otherwise would have made/wrote android apps in WM language/scripts. Some News also came that there are certain Converters which can convert Android Apps into J2ME or WM apps. I need a solution to this problem.

I believe there was originally an Android emulator running on WM, but it was slooooooooow!!! There's a whole slew of reasons as to why an Android emulator won't run well on WM, memory being the obvious main one. That's why Android ports were developed to run off the SD card, first dumping Windows from the memory and then running Linux.
Depending on your development experience, you may want to look into programming for Android anyway, if that's where your interest lies. If you've done anything like C# (or other .Net based language like VB.Net) then it's not that big a leap. If you've already done Java development then it's really not a problem - you just need to learn the Android SDK.
If you are intersted, have a look at the following tutorial...
http://www.vogella.de/articles/Android/article.html
It's a great starting point for Android development. It walks you through setting up the dev environment and then a few simple apps to get you going. Any OO experience you have will definitely help. (It may actually prove difficult without it - I can't say for sure.)
Hope this helps

I just did a search on your question. And from all the sites i've seen they all come up with the same answer: "no"
The two systems are too far apart from each other to be able to 'port' or emulate it apparently.
At least, this is what i found. Maybe some others might have more luck.
Problem still Not Resolved.
I read both of Your Comments, but still problem is not resolved. johncmolyneux you have told me that there is an emulator(Slow ones), can u tell me the name of that emulator? It was about 8-9 months ago so no, I'm afraid don't know the name, but it was on xda so you can search the forum for it.
Let me put it clearly though. The emulator was so slow that it was immediately dropped and no-one ever used it. It's basically Windows, running a Linux emulator, running Android. It was terrible and unusable.
Why is it imperative that you run Android apps on WM? If you explain then maybe we can understand more and hopefully offer more constructive help.
Why I want to run Android Apps on WM.
The Reason for this is- I need Google Goggles for my HD2 and some other apps too. But Windows Mobile Technology is Better, Easy to Use and Expensive. And HTC offers HTC Sense along with HD2 which makes it more easy to use and attractive too. These all things are not possible by using Android. But Android has a big App Marketplace. This is the reason why I want to run android apps in WM.
Okay, I'll make it very clear then. You will not get this. The only solutions available are to find a version of google goggles on WM (not likely), or to run Android on your phone.
You can run it from the SD card, but it does mean a restart every time you want to switch from WM to Android and then back again.
Also, there are many Android builds available that include HTC Sense. There's some very nice Desire HD builds out there.
Sorry to give bad news, but you are not going to get what you're asking for.
OK! Necessity leads to invention!
Ya, but still, IF I make something then the problem will be resolved. I'm thinking to make Android Emulator in this Summer(May-June 2011). If I made it, then it will be good for all WM users, so nobody will switch to Android to get all apps. Anyway, johncmolyneux thanks for your efforts. By the way, Which Phone you are using. And with which OS(WM/Android/Bada/Ubuntu/S40/S60/Symbian 3rd Edition or any other) you are using? Necessity leads to invention!

Well good luck with that mate - I think you'll need it
I'm using a Nexus One Gingerbread ROM at the minute. It's fast and stable - everything works just like a native Android device!
You do realize that you can boot into Android from Windows mobile on your hd2. That way you have winmo still on your phone, and when you need to use Android, you can use haret.exe to boot into an Android build running from the SD card. You have to restart the phone to get back into Windows mobile, but that only takes a minute or 2. And it only takes a minute to boot into Android. This way you can run both OS's on your hd2.

Excelent example of high achievment goal.
So what you need?
Remapping all Android API to WM API with necessary additional functionality, so running whole Android emulator will be not necessary. This will save memory and gain some speed.
Similar to already known solutions on Linux platform which can run Windows applications on several platforms like winehq.org.
How much effort will be necessary?
Depends on which applications area that has to be covered.
Depends on knowledges about both operating systems.
Depends on accessibility to source code of the system and the applications which supposed to run with this framework.
Is summer vacations enough?
Future will reveal, but if you really are genius, please turn to good side
So this project will be definitely something which people will pay for, those who has WM favorites programs and are not willing to change the whole system to run some new.
Anyway aplications will be maybe running, but most of them will miss the stability and advantages of the Android operating system.

I think I got some of the Ideas, I have to Create a platform build on Windows Mobile with the help of WM API, it will require Android SDK too. If I will create an app that has the compatibility of Android, I could name it as Emulator. Means just another platform running on a OS.
i would donate for this...
work hard guys..gudluck!
I love webOS but we have very little choice about applications, and OS really deserves to reach a very good support for apps and patch than what we have now(many thanks to webos-internals), for now if we look the other platforms are missing most of the more useful applications...so i open this thread for ask to webOS users and help developers to have a first idea about what people need it most at this time.
Is not necessary to specify the name of the existing app from the other OS is also enough to have just the idea of the application or patch that you miss.
I start with:
Something like Shazam and Whatsapp and another choice than the original browser...
Thanks
VOIP
Any VOIP and preferably Skype or Fring or any way to use Google Voice as a calling or receiving number...
2 patchs:
1. arabic enabling for webos 1.4.5
2. app catalog enabling for unsupported carriers
many apps:
1.shazam
2. fring
3. call recorder
4. word, excel sheet editor
5........ many others
Currently I would just like a patch to be able to bookmark things in Diigo or look up my Diigo bookmarks and read later items.

You can use the WebOS Internals MetaDoctor to bypass activation and create a palm profile over wifi to access the app catalog. If you do not do this on an official carrier in an official launch country, then you will end up with no access to purchase paid apps, and (depending on your country) may not end up with access to any apps at all.
You can always, of course, use Preware to install homebrew apps, patches, themes and kernels.

How about a different web browser with more capabilities, such as flash. And no, I'm not talking about flash lite or some derivative of it....but the real deal. Android has 10.1....., why can't someone port it to work with Web OS? They're both programmed in Linux. Don't know why this has'nt been done by now. Web OS is such an innovative and powerful system......it really deserves more attention than it's been getting.
On a side note, anyone in the mood for some custom roms? Are their any Web Os chiefs out there? Or does anyone know of any roms for the palm pre?

No such thing as 'ROMz' in webOS land. Your device contains flash memory, not Read-Only Memory (ROM) and you simply install and uninstall packages.
You are the chef. Preware is your menu. You pick and choose what kernel, patches, theme and packages you want, and all of them are installable over the air without needing to reflash your device or lose any data.
WebOS Internals provides the restaurant.

That actually cleared up an old question for me haha. I always wondered why nobody ever made custom "roms" like they did on Windows Mobile and Android.
Do you, by any chance, know if this is the same deal for iOS?
Thanks again for the info.

Thanks for the insight. That cleared up alot of my questions. How about the deal with flash? Anyone know of a program or custom kernel that enables it? I know Web OS 2.0 is supposed to have some rendition of it. Is it the real thing like Android has? If so, would we be able to make it work on an older version of Web OS? Anyone got any ideas? And thanks for your response Mr. Whitby

Cool man! Thanks for the advice I've been preoccupied with my Sprint Epic 4g. Time for a change of pace. I never really abandoned my Pre, just lost interest a few monthes back. Seems like there is far more information and programs available for WM & Android.....it's a damn shame I tell ya, the Pre is such a powerful little device. Thanks again for the info, I'll check it out tonight
Does anyone know of a video player that supports formats other than .mp4? Is it possible to create a video player that plays .wmv, .avi, divx or .mpg files? Maybe that's asking too much of this device. Any thoughts on this?
