Titan and Mogul 6800 exact same phone and software? just sprint/cingular right?
Software might be a bit different, but yes same phone.
Well aparently I have to type more than 10 letters for me to beable to send the message lol,
THANK'S! lol..
I still have a problem if any one is still looking at this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361214
any phone on cingular/att will be quite different from a sprint phone, as sprint is cdma and cingilar/att is gsm
you are probably thinking of the Tytn or Tytn II (tilt) rather than the Titan, as those are on att
the 6800/Titan is the same as the verizonn xv6800 telus p4000, and possibly another one on alltel
Yeah it's the PPC6800 on the alltel network.

I'm looking to purchase one of these devices but not sure which one. I belong to Cingular but I like the look of the T-mobile MDA. Is there anything majorly different from a hardware/software point between these two?
If I get the t-mobile mda will I have any issues using it with Cingular? I know I need to sim unlock it first. My main use of this phone is for calls and text messgs. I rarely use the internet but may do so more later on. Just want to make sure the T-mobile softeware will not interfere with cingular settings. Can someone enlighten me? How about flashing it to a non branded rom? Or a cingular rom if thats possible. lol
Great forum my da way!!!
i bought a tmobile mda for use on cingular because of the keyboard design and general asthetics od the thing. i did unlock it then flashed it to the 217.7.2wwe cingular rom found on this sites ftp section. it works great with text, internet, has great rf reception. only thing i havent tried with it is mms.
rest easy; it works. if you have more questions there are people here much more experienced than i.
hardwares deep inside, they are the same machine. Once you have it (either 8125 or MDA) you can do SIM & CID unlock and put in any ROM for wizard you'd like; if you get MDA you can put 8125 rom on it and has all the cingular settings (which you can set it up manually also with other ROMs)
The main concern is the warranty. You are with Cingular and if you get 8125, whenever you have problem with it within 1 year of purchase, you can get warranty exchange (cingular will send you a new one, and you send the bad one back to them after you recieve the new one, all free)
But if you have MDA, you will have to send it to HTC for repair which might take a long time to come back.

Great! just what I was looking for. I did not know you could install a cingular rom over another brand. soo cool. Did you use the lokiwiz program (which version??) to unlock both the sim and cid? Or another program? Same here I like the rounded corners and two tone keyboard. I wish t-mobile online would sell w/o contract since its a decent price. At the store its almost 100 more.
New to PPC coming from the Motorola camp....
Know to search for a MDA....
Be Careful
Be careful, some of the newer Wizards (MDAs & 8125s) have a newer chip inside referred to as the G4 chip. It is my understanding that lokiwiz will SIM unlock the device which will allow you to use your Cingular SIM card. However, lokiwiz won't CID unlock the MDA with the new chip. So you won't be able to use all the new custom ROMs on ths site.
It is pretty easy to manually configure the setting so the MDA will work fully on Cingular. I have the 8125 and am using T-mobile. The internet, text messanging, and MMS work great.
Check out the threads on the Wizard Upgrading forum for more info. on how to tell which chip your phone has.
Thanks for the tip. I've read some threads about the dreaded G4 chip. Hopefully someone will crack it soon. There is a website that can unlock the G4 chip both sim and cid but it costs like 40 bucks. Worst case I can send it to them.
jdub71: How is the ear piece sound level on the MDA when on a call? how do you rate it? loud, med. or could be louder despite on full volume.
rambo6: Same question. How is you're ear piece volume level on the 8125?
PC mag suggested that the MDA had a lower ear piece volume than the 8125. I wanted to hear from actual users. Louder the better for me. Is there a reg. hack to make the ear piece volume louder? Thanks
I'm running an MDA on Cingular with no problems. Got it a week ago with every intention of flashing to 8125 cingular, but it seems to have figured out most Cingular settings automatically. No problems.... yet.
I don't see how one Wizard could be louder than another.
Have turn it down on both my plantronics bluetooth and wired earphones.
Couple of other quality control concerns with the MDA versus the 8125, I've heard that the MDA is more prone to having the paint come off the keys and that they are also more prone to having the stylus come loose after prolonged usage.
Don't have a MDA, only a 8125, but that's what I have gathered from reading the forums.
[double post]
How do you go about finding out what ROM version you have and also how do you tell if you have successfully unlocked your MDA?
Also how do you tell if you have the "G4" chip?
Thanks
Good question. I want a custom rom too.
8125ppc (and htc just updated)
You can go to the thread below to learn how to tell which chip is in your Wizard.
Also, I have great sound through the 8125's earpiece. Sometimes I have to turn it down.
My suggestion is buy whichever phone you want. The MDA has keys that are a little closer together. I'd suggest you look at both in person. You can buy either in the US through letstalk.com without a contract but the phone will be set up for either Cingular or T-mobile and you'll need to unlock it to use another carrier.
If you can hold off a few months, the TyTN or some UMTS form thereof should be offered in the U.S.
T-mobile is great but it will be at least a year before they get a 3G network going. Cingular is the only carrier in the U.S. with a 3G UMTS network in major cities. It's significantly faster than Edge but not as fast as Verizon's evdo.
I hope that HTC offers some phone to work on both the US and European UMTS/HSDPA networks soon. Some form of TyTN or the Trion would do it.
Once you start surfing the web and texting with a Wizard, you'll get addicted and want more speed. Verizion's evdo is so damn fast. I miss verizon's speed but love my Wizard and hope to have the newest HTC phone soon

After read many many threads on these it does seem like the 8125 has a better build quality than the MDA. Sound quality may also be superior since alot of MDA owners are complaing about sound issues. I was going to get the MDA but now I'm leaning on the 8125. Main reason is availability. Its easier for me to get the 8125 since I'm on cingular. I'm just worried about the sound volume being too low. I've read about the slider not working and such.....many requests to boost the sound but no real answer.
Hmm. New phone called the TyTN? Made also by HTC? May look into that also.
My friend has a T-Mobile MDA and I have the Cingular 8125. He has the original rom that came with the phone and I have the latest one 2.25. We were at my friends basement he had 3-4 bars of connection while I had non or 1 bar. He always has better connection then me.

Okay,let's see here.....
1) Are you both using the same carriers ?
If yes to above, it is a Rom issue.
If no to above, then it is pretty obvious as to the reason for the different signal levels!
I have a Qtek 9100 Wizard with the summiter custom Cingular 2.24 rom and can tell you for a fact that different roms DO act differently.Even roms from the same carriers, I might add! LOL
Later........
Yeah like I said he has T-Mobile and I have Cingular. He has the original rom and I have that new one http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54726 Even with summiter 2.24 rom that I had last month he still had way better connection in my friends basement.

That's just to compare Cingular v.s. Tmobile signal, NOT 8125 v.s. MDA.
If your 8125 is SIM unlocked, try put in your friend's SIM card and see how is the signal on your phone; should be much better than your SIM.
.....Like I said, different carriers= different towers =different signal strength. As was said above, if sim unlocked, swap sims and see what happens.
Later.......
I never tought about that, I'll try the sim change next time.
I am still waiting for VZW's new XV6800...
I got to play with an Alltel 6800. All black and just like the Mogul. NIIIICE!
Is there any way to get one of these to work on VZW's network? I am tied to this network and really like Alltel's version of this PPC phone.

I agree. I like the All Black look.....I have the Mogul Bugle though...silver/grey..yuck
Alltel to VZW
If Verizon will activate the ESN (check the ESN of any phone you intend to purchase to make sure it hasn't been submitted for an insurance claim), then it's just a matter of re-provisioning (programming) the handset to use with Verizon. Since Alltel doesn't use MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) for their devices, they are easily configured for other carriers.
With a bit of research and time, this is easily accomplished. The transition isn't as simple as that of GSM devices, but not daunting in the slightest. Feel free to PM with any questions you might have.
Cheers,
Mick
Extended Rom
Mick,
By any chance if possible, you can extract the Extended_Rom from your phone and post it here? I have Sprint and want to play around with the Extended_Rom of the Alltel PPC6800.
Thanks
Hey guys,
I am looking to answer a few questions for a friend.
He has Alltel service and wants to purchase Alltel's version of the 6800.
Would he be able to buy the Sprint version, since both carriers are CDMA?
I have no clue about CDMA, I only use GSM carriers.
I see the prices of the Alltel verion are rediculous on eBay.
Thanks for the help
The Alltel version is pricier...I think because the Alltel cliental is not as nearly extensive as Sprint's. CDMA is a newer digital carrier service used only in the USA and Canada I think. GSM is older but used here and Europe.
As for carrier service, I would imagine there is away to get a Mogul to work on Alltel service since they are both CDMA and even Verizon is now allowing other CDMA carrier's phones on their network. I saw some posts about transferring phones with ESN, etc. Do a little more searching. You will find the answer.
Sprint Mogul on Alltel
You can use any version of the 6800 on Alltel... I've used both a Sprint Mogul and a Telus P4000 (Canadian) successfully. I still use the Telus P4000 as a backup to my Alltel 6800.
The easiest way to accomplish using another carrier's device is to use the hard SPL (bootloader) here on XDA-Developers and then you can load the Alltel ROM to whichever version of the device you have. That's exactly what I did to my P4000...
The only consideration to affecting this change is that Sprint uses MSL's (Master Subsidy Lock) on their phones. You'll need to know the MSL to update the PRL (Preferred Radio/Roaming List) because a non-Alltel device will not update OTA (Over The Air). Verizon and Alltel (verify Verizon for yourself, I'm only sure about Alltel) don't use MSL's, their MSL is always set to six zero's... so a Verizon 6800 is the easier switch as both Telus and Sprint use MSL's for their handsets.
Good luck...

How in the heII did you get them to accept your non-Alltel phones??? Do you have a friend at Alltel? I couldn't get them to activate my old Sprint 6700 on my wifes Alltel line for ANYTHING! I'll bet I called 25 times trying to get it done (sometimes if you just get the right CSM they'll do anything for you). I even talked to tech support and told them that I had flased the Alltel ROM to the phone so that it was essentially an Alltel phone.
You must be good...
How to activate another carriers phone
Call them and dont tell them its not an alltel phone simply state you have a 6700 or 6800 to activate and there will be no questions or issues activating the phones, of course you will need to have the rom already updated as they will try to get you to ota activate the phone or manually program and they wont know the msl code and if you mention anything about it, then they will know its not an alltel phone also you can download alltel's version of wm6 for the 6700 and 6800 at this site without any bootloader tool.
http://www.america.htc.com/support/ppc6800/software-downloads.html
Its not really made for the 6700 but I have tested and worked fine on mutiple 6700s.

Thats really good to know. It seems reasonable that if they tell you something like they cant locate the phone in your system, tell them that that is impossible. The phone after all came in a alltel, has alltel logos on it etc. =) That chad guy from the commercial even came over and personally verified it.
Hi guys,
I have recently purchased a Sprint HTC Mogul 6800 on ebay, so this PPC is pretty new to me. I want to know if there's anyway to change the phone settings to Bell or Fido with this phone I have (I am located in Toronto, Canada).
I thought by unlocking and reflashing a new ROM on the phone will solve by problem I have, but seems like this is not working...
FYI, the phone currently has the previous owner information right now, I don't know what to do anymore... =(
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Don
Sprint Mogul
First is Bell and FIDO CDMA or GSM since Sprint is CDMA. Secondly your not going to get very far changing info with out your MSL and that the code that allows you to program or reprogram the phone. You'll have to obtain that from Sprint.
Mogul
Alright I decided to try an answer my own questions. You could potentially use it on Bells network but FIDO is GSM. I also found this post on how to recover your MSL. I havent tried it since I have my MSL. Good Luck

Hello,
I currently have a Sprint Mogul that is working great. I love the phone (especially with the new radio features). I may have the opportunity to switch wireless carriers soon, as my contract will run out in the next few months.
I would like to switch to Alltel as they have better coverage in my state. What do I need to do to get my Mogul/Titan to work on Alltel's network? I presume they probably have to register the device's ESN on their network and change some other network related settings on the phone. Has anyone gotten a carrier to do this? Can it be done? Has anyone made a switch like this and kept the same device?
I'm just not thrilled about re-buying my phone again.
Thanks for your stories and input.
I never experienced this nor heard of it, but I think it's possible. All you would need is to flash on Alltel's ROM and update using Alltel's PRL just so you can get a lock on Alltel's towers. With this accomplished, I think you can try calling them up and have them program your phone like you would with any other carrier.
Note, this is all just making educational guesses on my part and not guaranteed to work.
Tried it with qwest... big problems
I'm not sure how sprint will work it for you but when I tried to switch from qwest to sprint with mine.. it never happened.. though sprint did say that qwest HAD to release the ENS qwest refused to, and I walked all the way up the chain of support/manager/supervisor/legal dept... they said they own the ESN.. you might have better luck with sprint but.. I would check to make sure it is going to work before you terminate service with them..
Best of luck.
Just a thought I read somewhere just the other day that you could change the esn of the 6800/mogul. So if you went to new carrier and said give me a new esn (not even sure if they can) that works on your service and then changed your current ESN (removed the sprint) and placed the new ESN then it should work?
I would think that is legal.. you are using a ESN that your new carrier knows about because they gave it to you. Not sure.
Verizon has activated alltel phones on their network before by reflashing the software/writing their PRL to the phone. I have first hand experience with this. I would assume it is possible but just a matter of if they are willing to do it.
Of course it is possible
I have used Alltel phones on VZW and VZW phones on Alltel with only telling them the ESN. I am on Alltel now and want to take my 6800 to Sprint. Sprint sales says I can, but no one knows what steps I'll have to take. Want to just trade phones?
