odd question this but I'm curious to see if I could connect a compact flash card reader to the mini USB port on the bottom of my tytn 2 would the phone's file explorer be able to find it and read the files??
I have found a spare mini USB to standard USB cable and if I can find a card reader with a usb socket on it I could plug it in.

I do not know for the TYTN2 as you are here on the forum for the TYTN (1 ). But what i am sure of is that to be able to read and write on a peripheral, you need that the pda is "master" (like a PC). As far as i know this is not the case for the tytn. At least not "out of the box"

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Universal but I've a question on the USB port.
Has anyone tried connecting a USB hard drive directly to the Universal? I have a Archive Gmini 220 and I was wondering if the Universal would see it as an external drive and if this is the case can it run media on the drive such as MP3 or AVI files? Also has anyone tried connecting a card reader to read CF or Memory sticks etc.
Any rumours of a Universal with internal hard drive?
Captaink
Olnly thing i've heard is it does support but peoples who already tried says nevr made it work.
That's because just as with a normal PC it needs drivers to work with your device.
It's just a matter of time........

Agreed. This picture

clearly shows the mini-AB receptacle

Having a USB socket doesnt mean its a USB host!!!
It has to have that mini usb socket so that you can sync and charge, as they dropped the old style 21pin connector now. Its just like the Magician with usb only now.
There have been rumours it supports USB host mode, but ive not heard any confirmation or proof.
in this review of the device they say it does host

The PXA270 has a builtin USB host and
can operate as an OTG device. The guys
at HTC must be really sick if they have
not wired it.
I don't get only one thing: what USB 2.0
means here ? OTG ?
in which case it seems that HP and DELL are sick aswell

Just curious what all can be done with the mini USB connector on the Wizard other than Active Sync and charging.
Could the device be used to charge a bluetooth headset that also takes mini USB?
Possible to add a pocket drive for more storage?
I am pretty sure with the level of talented people here that someone has found ways to maximize functionality through this port.
it's only for charging and file trasfer
the device doesn't support usb host so you can't use a drive, or keyboard, etc with the usb
With WM5Storage or CardExportII the miniSD card can be used as USB FLASHDRIVE
I'm wondering if it's somehow possible to plugin a USB card reader into the mini-USB plug, so I could for instance, use it to transfer pictures from my digital camera etc.
Longshot maybe, but does anyone know if it's possible?
No it's not. You need a usb host device, which is typically a pc, to control usb slaves.
Wizard is not enabled to act as a usb host.

Oh well, worth an ask
What about some sort of convertor/adaptor for the mini SD slot?
Looking to find an adapter that will allow me to browse a jump/usb flash drive on my Kaiser. Have seen several 3 in 1's online, but none seemed to have a standard usb port and have also seen adapters that go from standard usb to mini but not the otherway.
Please let me know if what I am looking for just won't work (ie the Kaiser can't use an attached jump drive).
Thanks,
Zack
There is no way you can browse a flash drive with your kaiser (maybe using a redfly device) but the kaiser is not able to work as a usb host device.
I was afraid of that, but wasn't sure since it can use SD cards. Guess I need to do some reading to learn the difference between a USB drive and an SD card.
Thanks again for the informative reply!
Cheers.
For a few months i have a problem with transmitting files trough USB cable using WM5torage or Activesync and furthermore - damaging SD card FAT structure. My first thought was the card is dying. I've bought a new one, but it didn't solve the problem. I've checked both cards in digital camera and card reader and both are OK. My second thought is that USB socket is damaged. Since that moment I've stopped using USB in Wizard for transmitting files. Now I'm using card reader or BT and I have no problem with the logical structure of SD card.
Now I would like to change the ROM, but I can't do that using card reader or BT. Is there a way to check USB transmission?
Till now I've checked different cables, cards, computers to communicate with. I've done hardreset. No positive effect.
I've flashed WM6 in my Wizard a year or more ago and for couple of months there was no problem with USB, so the problem is not connected with ROM.
I suppose the mainboard or USB socket is damaged but I don't know any method to verify them. Can anyone help me with this?
Simply,to check the usb connectivity, get the phone in Bootloaders, hook up the phone with pc via usb cable and check small usb appear at the bottom of the Bootloader screen,if its there then its establishing connection, otherwise, there's a connection problem. The cause may of faulty usb cable or mini usb port of the phone.
Even try to change the usb input port of the pc,in which you usually insert the usb,try with other port of pc.
As I've wrote in my first post I've tried different USB cable and some PC's, so the problem is inside Wizard and it is not a SD card.
In bootloader mode Wizard discovers USB connection, but because of my problems with transferring files trough USB I'm afraid of possible errors during transmission.
