Hi,
Have anyone experience free GPRS?
I DO
Yes I have and still on it 8)
Its free somehow? :?:
Anyone else have got it too?
What do you mean, all GPRS is free, isn't it?
GPRS Data Plan
No, GPRS isn't free. You need to go into a data plan
depending on the network that operates it. Nothing
is free in this world especially with telecomunication.
Some might have Free GPRS maybe on a trial run etc.
on my nokia i have a BT genie simcards this gives me unlimited wap and gprs for free also 300txts per month its not the newer 02 online sim they only allow 300min of wap/gprs....
anyway i used to use gprs on wa all the time on my 3510i then i got my xda...
using the GPRS connection for the net dont work for me but yet works with the wap explorer but if i use my wap dialup conection i get free internet useasge but i think its only like 20kb/s which is quite cool really shame it dont work on gprs though
John - just goes to show how little you know about what you're posting on then, doesn't it?
Quest
Hi Anon,
Are you trying to tell me you can get free GPRS
on your O2xda? I would love to know how you do it
then......that is if you care to share here.
WAP over GPRS on O2 incurs no charge, you need to speak to your network as this is not something that is true across all networks.
Quest
Dont worry, I already found a way to use GPRS on my
O2Xda surfing the internet for FREE.
Would you care to illuminate the rest of us Quest? We like free!
Free Mobile Web
Does Anyone know how i can get Free Mobile Web over GPRS. If anyone does then PLEASE let me know.
Did you know the word "gullible" does not appear in any dictionary?
Free GPRS (maybe...)
I sometimes hear that if you configure the WAP/MMS access point name instead of the internet one, you may get fee connectivity since WAP is usually billed on the service level, and MMS is billed per transaction. If you don't get IP, you may be able to get free mobile-to-mobile traffic, or maybe even find a proxy which will allow browsing.
I'm just relaying what I heard here. I have not tested anything, I do not recommend doing this, and I definitely recommend not assuming something is free until you get the bill. Your mileage may vary beyond all comprehension.
I found some web pages talked about o2 offering free WAP and txt messages... also mention of o2 as genie etc. This may all be old news?
O2 Wap / Mobile Internet settings:

Freebies
Hi.
I have the old genie free wap access too. Until about a month ago, O2 allowed access through port 80 (WEB http) and 6201 (Wap wsp) but they have just blocked port 80 so I can now only get the crappy o2 active site and for anyhing else i need to go through the 'find' option at the bottom of the o2 Active site. Problem is I can't get half the bloomin' wap sites I used to get and I resent having to use the active home page to view anything, I don't like moaning because I only pay £10 a month and get free wap dialup over gsm (no gprs) but i think it's a bit below the belt to just block me. anyone else having this problem?
Is there anyway to tunel through 6201 or can I use a different proxy for http traffic (o2 give 193.113.200.195, which has stopped working) cos I'd like to be able to get my active sync working mobile again.
HELP ME!!!!!!
my gprs is almost free... $4.99USD/month
only ports 80/110/25/995/443 and some other port are open though... enough for me.
Re: Freebies
Hi, This is my first posting on this forum, so I hope I understand the question properly. I'm using a very old Genie (O2) SIM card. This gives no GPRS, but practically unlimited GSM (cellular line) dialup WAP access via shortcode 915000 or 07712927927.
Username o2wap
Password password
My GSM WAP proxy settigs are:
HTTP 193.113.200.195 Port 8080
WAP 193.113.200.195 Port 9201
SECURE WAP 193.113.200.200 Port 9203
SOCKS 193.113.200.195 Port 1080
I'm using an i-Mate PDA 2K (Blue Angel)
I can surf WAP and web pages, including some secure servers, e.g. Amazon, but since some time last month, it hasn't let me log in to this forum or my internet banking account.
I find sometimes my links to WAP pages in Favourites stop working; they work again after I delete and re-create them. I find links to WAP pages only work if they begin wsp://
and I suspect mine got changed to http:// during synchronisation with ActiveSync.
Hope this helps
John

With the current weakness of the dollar, $4.95 will get you about 1.2MB of GPRS use in rip-off britain with rip-off O2 currently!

But i can view web and WAP pages through "MobileWeb" connection settings, but that CHARGES ALOT PLEASE HELP...
well so much for $20 for unlimited GPRS from t-mobile...
it's now FREE!!
I just found out T-Mobile has free unlimited GPRS.
The thing is, it's limited to webbrowsing and POP email.
If you pay $0, you get access to ports 80, 110, and 25. it's supposed to be wap only but it accesses http sites as well.
downside: cant access ssl, ftp, instant messenger, etc (anything that uses other ports). for that, you have to pay the $20 per month.
i just dumped my $20/month plan this evening cause i can do without those other ports, is it wooth $20/month to use IM? i dont think so. free unlimited gprs webbrowsing owns
oh yeah, and the aim client on the ppc can be set to port 80, so it works.
now i switched from internet2.voicestream.com (which stopped working for me once i called in and cancelled the $20/month data plan) to wap.voicestream.com and i still browse sites, send email, etc.
no bank site access (ssl) but bank access isn't worth $20/month, i'll wait to be on my desktop for that.
-arebelspy
you are a... GENEOUS!! (is that how its spelled? )
now, have u figured out how to get and send MMS from pocket pc, without ordering Tzones?
MMS is no longer part of the T-Zones. With the same changes for the "Included WAP Access" also came "Unlimited Picture Messaging". They've made it where you don't have to do T-Zones for sending/receiving MMS. HOWEVER, you are charged $0.25/MMS that you send/receive. There is a promotion for $4.99/mo that gives you Unlimited Picture messaging through 12/31/04. After that date it reverts down to 50 for the $4.99.
Hope that sheds some light now on the matter.
Thanks for that info. I'm Looking forward to using it when i get my XDA II in a few days.
They won't list zero cost features on the site. All phone plans come with the free WAP access now. If your phone isn't working with it, contact Customer Care and ask them if it's on your account. They will add it i'm sure.
It was originally setup to allow customers to download ringtones and wallpaper without signing up for the monthly fee. Seems like this is a small little suprise for us tho!
I tried it and is not working for me. Are you sure that I can just call CS and they'll add it to my account?. I don't want to spoil people's luck. Maybe is an oversight from them
Ive used both, and if your not going to use the gprs for anything too overbaring go 4 it, but with the wap access, it limits alot, plus is significantly slower
btw: im sure TMO will charge u for sumthing extra sooner or later
(pps) (i have a feeling there are undercover TMO employees spying) :!:
you need to use the address wap.voicestream.com
it's not slower, it's the same speed.
it is limited in that you only get web browsing and emails (ports 25, 80, 110 and 143 for smtp, http, pop, and imap respectivly), if you want all the ports (for instant messaging, ftp, ssl, etc) you need to get the $20/month data plan.

so then why was it that when i was downloading a 2mb file it would take 15-20 minz....not it takes 5-7 minz :?:
OK, I tried and it keeps not working for me, I called T-mo and they say that that is only for regular handsets, that for us, we would need a data plan, they even xferred me to tier2 people, (which were clueless) and he said that in order for me to take advantage of the internet, I have to pay.
I said for the to reset my settings in their end, but they said that they have nothing to reset, since I don't have any data plan.
I have tried all, changed the internet2.voicestream.com for wap.voicestream.com, try making a new connection, with all those settings, and nothing. Anybody know any clues?
try internet3.voicestream.com
-arebelspy
internet3.voicestream.com is for their VPN option ($19.99/mo)
internet2.voicestream.com is for their non-VPC option ($19.99/mo)
wap.voicestream.com is for their WAP service (all other devices)
I thought I also saw somewhere the address wap.myvoicestream.com. Now I can't remember which one works.
internet3 has worked for some people without data plans (only the free wap service). no idea why.
try them all to try to make it work, lol.

Yea its the T-Zones home page, try it and see ( http://wap.myvoicestream.com ).
Oh yea I forgot to mention that it only works with a WAP browsers.
HTH
what are the instructions for setting this up? I just opened IE and it works but I wonder if im being charged per minute?
Nope, T-Mobile no longer counts MBs, minutes, anything. Every plan has free browsing (free access to ports 25, 80, 110, and 143).
-arebelspy
can't email other than optonline???
i have the imate ... i set up the account with my email as [email protected] using mail.optonline.net incoming /outgoing now i can recieve from everyone ..i can only email out to another @optonline.net account .......no @aol.com or business account [email protected](my business address at work)... so what iam doing wrong....please help
I swear! I didnt think T-mobile could get any ... more ... better than AT&T. I was, once again, wrong.
the pge http://wap.myvoicestream.com does not seem to come up on PocketIE - a post above says that PIE can handle wml pages...
So, is the address incorrect, or is it PIE that cannot handle WAP?
J
I'm not sure if any of you have had this problem.
I've been using t-zones for my imate jam for more than a year to surf the web and IM my friends. A few weeks ago it stopped working and I finally got fed up and called them to see what the problem was. After being on the phone for more than an hour trouble shooting with them, they finally told me that they updated the system.
They said the t-zones connection no longer supported port 80 connections (internet connection). This explained a lot since I am able to connect to t-zones, but not get any content from my browser.
Has anyone had this same problem? Is there a way around it besides getting the $20 Internet Feature from t-mobile?
Try to put this into the HTTP proxy setting:
HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com port 8080
Hope this will work out for you.
And also, its not longer $20, now its $30, they bundle it with Hotspot. No more option to have just the GPRS.
This kinda defeats the whole point of having a PDA phone for me if I can't get cheap internet on it. For $30 I'd expect to get an EDGE connection, not some crappy 5kbs connection.
Oh well.
so, the proxy above doesn't work out for you?
I still have the t-zone for $6 month and my connection still works so far with the proxy above.
well I'll have to call tmobile and have them activate my tzones again (I hate paying for unusable services) I'll keep you posted with any updates. Are you able to use the wap.voicestream.com still or does that one no longer work for you?
You can do it on-line in the T-Mobile web site. Just re-check the T-MobileWeb option and tomorrow morning it will start working again.
If it does not work out, then you go back to the T-Mobile web site and uncheck the T-Mobile web again. And the changes will be effective the following day. Then you will pay 1/30 times $6 for that 1 day service.
I still use wap.voicestream.com with the proxy setting I mentioned above.
Generally I can browse the web, and I can sync to my company Exchange server.
for some reason the check box in grayed out and I'm not able to check the stupid box. I'll wait till tomorrow to see if there is any change.
Thank You... That worked for me...
ok so I've got t-zones back up and running and I've set the address to getmorespeed.voicestream.com but I'm not sure what the port 8080 is? I searched through all my settings and was not able to find anyhting that looked similar to this. does anyone have a screen capture of it to give me a better idea where to look?
I think you set it wrong.
The access point name (APN) in the GPRS setting is still wap.voicestream.com
After you set that up, then you go to the Proxy Setting, and add the HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com and when you click Advanced, you will see the default proxy port number is 80. Change it to 8080.

I put together these cabs for T-mobile data plans. I have the $5.99 plan so I haven't tested the other ones, but people have told me they work.
the $5.99 cab automatically sets up the proxy.
All the cabs set up connections so that GPRS is not used unless no other connections (WIFI or Activesync) are available.
MMS (for ArcSoft MMS 4.2.8.1 but it probably works for other versions) sets size limit to 600k and will not resize pictures (I think T-mobile limits MMS data to 300k).
Cool, members are always looking for tmob setup cab's!
So, gprs internet2.voicestream.com is part of the 29.99 plan cab?
Yes:
29.99 = internet2.voicestream.com
39.99 = internet3.voicestream.com
I think they must've changed prices...
Which one do I use if I have the unlimited data for $20/month?
Thanks

This was the ONLY way I could get the 5.99 t-zones plan to work on my windows mobile 6.1 tilt. Great work man!

Well, it half works. Before using your CAB, I couldn't get Opera Mobile 8.65 to connect at all through the proxy on my HTC Touch Cruise. Now, I can make normal connections in Opera through the proxy, but still can't get HTTPS to connect. No problems connecting with wifi.
UPDATE 10/29/07: I had occasion to revisit these cabs when my friendly neighborhood IT group screwed up my network connections with some automated script they forced down my phone. After running tmobyjoe599.cab again, things were all fixed. I also had no problems with HTTPS and Opera.
I think t-mobile blocks the port on the $5.99 plan. HTTPS uses port 443. You could try some different ports and if you find one that works, let me know and I'll update the CAB.
The settings for Tmo's proxy are:
HTTP 216.155.165.50:8080
WAP 216.155.165.50:9201
Secure WAP 216.155.165.50:9203
Socks 216.155.165.50:1080216.155.165.50:1080
and this is what my system shows. The Tmo proxy is unauthenticated, so I tried to test against it using my laptop and wifi. Manually setting the FF3 HTTP proxy to 216.155.165.50:8080, and leaving all the other proxy options blank, I had no trouble bringing up HTTPS pages.
maybe it has something to do with the access point (wap.voicestream.com)

That's not really an access point. It's a conventional proxy which serves to restrict most anything but web or mail access, but otherwise doesn't restrict traffic.

Would someone kindly explain what the above cabs are for? I don't want to make any assumptions, but do the cabs provise software to make an unlocked HTC Wizard work as if its a T-Mobile device at the various rate plans - assuming your sim has that plan?
Is the $5.99 the prepaid plan?
I just bought used MDA and am using my prepaid SIM. Having trouble with tzones working - though admittedly it doesn't do much.
Thanks in advance for the help.
tried but didnt seem to work on vs 24 rickywatts 6.1
does this still work?? i have a tmobile wing with touch it rom
The only way to find out if it works for YOU is to try it. Please let us know....
great work!!
Works like a charm! I thought they might have shut down the proxy for the 5.99 plan. Is there a MMS cab that I didn't see? Again thanks alot.
Should I delete all my existing proxies?
I have proxy settings in
settings..Connections....Proxy
should I remove them before applying the tmobyjoe CAB?
what is the "new-inet:1159" proxy server in the Kavana ROM? Is that just rubbish or what?
Also, I don't understand why there are so many proxies and connections. Is there something I can read to understand the relative significance of
"work" "TMobile MMS" "Tmobile Data" "WAP Network" "Secure WAP Network" and "The Internet"
and then the various proxies that route to these various networks?
I don't get why it is so complicated and why I need so many networks and proxies and so on.
i can recieve my yahoo emails giving me cannot connect with this settings?
i can recieve my yahoo emails giving me cannot connect with this settings? i had it working but now its not connecting to recive my emails
Hey everyone. I've added the $5.99 service to my account and I've tried both manually entering the settings and I've tried the CAB for the $5.99 service. No joy...
I can't download email and when trying to browse the web at all GPRS connects, the page tries to load and then I get the following error:
"Error: Requested content
'www.google.com/' cannot be accessed.
You do not have access to the site."
What am I doing wrong?
Also, in the GPRS Settings do I want PAP Auth. or CHAP Auth. selected? It's on PAP Auth.
I live in Denver, CO, if it makes any difference.
Thanks!
EDIT: Interestingly enough it's working now... of course something else had to break, I can't connect to the net via USB now. No biggie, never used that anyway.
I am having trouble trying to use web2go/tzones on my wing. I got 9.99 web2go plan and when i try to visit any site using internet explorer i always get a message that I don't have the right type of internet plan and I need to upgrade it in order to use internet on my wing. I have used both wap.voicestream.com and epc.tmobile.com with and without proxy 216.155.165.50:8080 it seems like tmobile systems are recognizing my phone type and not letting me use web2go on my wing. I cannot even update weather on my phone. Is there any additional settings I can use or anything else I can do to get web2go working. I only need data plan for very light browsing so I don't want to sign up for expensive plans.
Thanks
If you have web2go, you can NOT use epc, you have to use wap.
On my Wing, under Connections:
Name it something
Modem type is Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name is wap...
User, pass, domain is all blank
Remove any type of proxy settings.
It may just be easier to delete everything you have now and just add that.
Hope that helps.
T-Mobile Data Hack & epc.tmobile.com
I continue to use T-Mobile Web at $5.99 a month and I just installed Ivan's Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha 11 and added the new APN - epc.tmobile.com and it works just fine. In fact, when I installed his ROM the first time I had no problems accessing GPRS, but the next time I installed it, I couldn't access the internet. Under Connections 6.5 had "wap.voicestream.com" , "[email protected]" and "[email protected]". It was there I added the new APN and ran IE6 Mobile. All that said, if there is a difference other than the price between T-Mobile Web and web2go, I don't know. Before all the changes were made to data plans, I assumed T-Mobile Web was unlimited and I use the hell out of it when I was at work listening to then XM radio and SkyFM. I do know over on MyT-Mobile as on the Wing you can monitor the amount of data used, whether they're enforcing a FAP on the new data plans, I simply don't know. I've never had any problems with my plan and have noted the new APN is faster than the old voicestream wap. Take care!
have sed all ways of web2go apn connections internet2 epc etc. As of today when I try to visit a website, it redirect me to wipcore.t-mobile.com or something like that and it says that I must subscribe to the webConnect but why would I want to pay more and do that? Any help/ideas what I can do?
