Does anyone smell a challenge? Do we dare take the BA to lengths that no one expected it to go to?
Awesome..
They said WM6 couldn't be done
Omg, some of those screen shots almost made me cry.
Really fantastic!
I hope Helmi make us smile again soon!

WM 6.1 is upgradabale to BA also.
Sorry, but many of WM7 features can't be used on BA because of hardware:
- we can't shake, cause we don't have shake sensor;
- we can't use multi-touch, cause device must have multi-touch hardware (screen);
- and so on...;
Sad, but true - no WM7 on BA.

@XShell
Well, that may be true. However, WM5 and WM6 also had (and I could be wrong about this one) hardware limitations. I am not here to argue with you, but that was the same reasoning that had kept WM6 out of the BA until someone (aka Helmi, xplode, tuatara, etc said: let's give it a shot. Even if we can't use some of the features, which will be limited by HW like you said, it will still be nice to see our beloved BA's sporting something like that.
Maybe you are right and this is indeed the end of the line for the BA, but you know what? I would at least like to try and then fail than not try at all...
...that is as long as we don't brick our devices
Long Live the Blue Angel!!!!!

As far as I understand, there is no need for a shake sensor, as these movements should be detected by the camera, of cause the camera may be to slow or of a to poor quality. But lets not give up just yet, as there are some truely fantastic people out there who can work miracles.
Of cause the multi touch will be a problem, but maybe it will only limit some of the function and not the hole system.
I'm optimistic, or else it maybe would be a good time to change my beloved three and half year old Qtek 9090 (aka BlueAngel)

I must have missed the "shake sensor" part. If you guys are talking about an accelerometer (like the one in the iphone and in the HTC Advantage), I believe that there were a few people in this forum trying to adapt the camera to do just that, just like hagstead says in his reply.
Personally, I am out of luck either way since I have a SX66 (BA with no camera)
Aw well.....
The only problem in using the camera to detect shake or movement would be fluctuating light levels. The algorithms needed to detect movement and ignore any changes in light levels would be too much for the poor old BA to handle.
Neat idea none the less.
Guys... Dont lose hope...
At first they said BA in WM5/WM6 couldnt be done...
obviously BA in WM7 they are saying it now ("it couldnt be") before it is released?!?
Who am i to argue? And to argue with what?
What do we have at the moment? A review that is close to nothing? nah...
This is just a waste of time, arguing that it can be or cannot be withouth solid basis.
We are a though few... We love our BA.
And im so sure that if ever WM7 is released we will Adapt. Even if we are tired trying (IF we are trying)
There's always someone, somewhere that will tinker WM7 to adapt to our BA. and if that happens. We are always ready to be glad and thankful.
There is hope. Yet.

It's not HTC.....
Are you guys seriously considering buying this? I hardly use the camera because it sucks anyway, and the extra colors I can do without. That leaves only wifi and WM5, and I am not sure they are worth that much.
When I upgrade my Magician, at least I would like qwerty or GPS being part of the packet.
GPS would be really cool, then the dream of an all in one gadget would come true
I have some hesitations with this device. I find the speakers next to the buttons very ugly and I use the contacts and calendar buttons a lot, they seem to have disappeared in favour of other buttons, the right one for O2's own multimedia application. I also wonder where the buttons are to use with the soft buttons in WM5, I don't see them on the device. I wonder if the cam is a true 1.3 or an interpolated 2.0 like on the Wizard, which is only slightly better than the Magicians according to some reviews. On the other hand I appreciate its size (102 mm instead of 108), the built in FM radio and according to HoFo it will have EDGE. The Wizard on the other hand has qwerty, which is very usefull since I really miss it on my Magician. Hmmm, tough choices await me. If only the Wizard had 2MP, an FM radio and was somewhat smaller....

For me, there is a contest. I'll miss the VGA screen, but I think I can cope. I went from a JAM to an Exec for 3G, now there's no reason for me not to go back to the smaller size, especially since I have an aquapac and a RAM Mount holder all at the right size for my bike and GPS...
What's the going rate for a second hand Exec?
I dont know if its the same pic or not (too lazxy to click the link, and correct my spelling apparently)
But heres the pic of the Hermes I came across a month ago in another article.
In any case this is just a spiffed up 3G version of the Wizard, I dont see it as a competitor for the Universal.

I'd like a VGA but don't want to come back to the Universal as it's too big for me.

All hardware has a percentage of faults. Don't let one faulty device make you change to a completly different OS, you fool.
You obviously wnted a HTC Windows OS device for some sort of good reason.
Why not simply get a different Mobile Windows device?
Is that too easy?
Yeah, you are right. The screen that died on me has made me moody and thats not right. Infact WM 5 devices are of the advantage if you want to use it corporately..
Yes, in a corporate usage it is a must; although I also enjoy playing great games, which I'm not quite sure to get the same quality in other systems... There are also a huge choice of all kind of softwares available...
I can't imagine going for another OS.
I am considering the Hermes as well but I am waiting on the replacement for the Uni to come out [if HTC has something planned] before I make my decision final. I'd probably miss VGA as well I tried using a qVGA device again [hp iPAQ rw6828] and always ended up going back to the Uni's gorgeous VGA screen. I've since sold the iPAQ.
As for Symbian OS I think it depends on which variant of the OS, for now I'd stay away from the N series [3rd Ed of Symbian Series 60] as most people I know who got these mobiles complain that they're really slow... maybe the hardware needs to be updated by Nokia to support their *new* OS.
Ehm, hello? Hermes is a mobile phone with PDA capabilites and the Universal is a PDA (rather even a UMPC) with phone capabilities. These two are different kind of devices, as both are what they are in first place, but can never be perfect for what they are supposed to be in second place! I always wanted a replacement for my Psion Revo, with a keyboard big enough to actually write. And I do write with 6-8 fingers on my Universal, where as on the Wizard I can write with 2-4 fingers max - that makes a difference. Plus I can put the Universal on the table and put the screen in such a position so I can do video calls without having to hold the device - impossible with Hermes! Don't get me wrong: Hermes is a wonderful device for those who want a mobile phone with A+ hard- and software. But it can never be a replacement for those who want a UMPC they really can work with...

I have also got a lot of fresh air with the Uni, maybe the first time after leaving my Revo.
I'd say that both are PDAs with phone capabilities, and not a phone with PDA capabilities. However, the Uni is more focused on PDA (maybe 80% PDA 20 phone) and the Hermes is something like (60% pda 40 phone). HOwever, right now I'm after an Advance TC MAGIC. I'll miss my Exec's VGA though... if only we could upgrade screens to VGA at will... along with the appropriate OS tweaks, of course.
Is this the first release of it in the UK?
The Register reports on the Orange SPV M3100.
There's also HTC TyTN already out.
nope, not a universal upd8/upgrade/replacement as its not VGA.
yes, i do agree that WM PDA-phones r more PDA than phone as opposed 2 symbian devices w/c r more phone than PDA. d palm OS PDA-phones (treos) can b classified IMO as d more balanced PDA & phone. but im more of a PDA person than phone so i still prefer WM PDA-phones.
y doesnt HTC release another VGA PPC-phone? isnt d universal popular enough?
Someone told me in one of my topics that there will be an R4A update. I just can't hold Xperia any longer, if I no for sure that there will be no awesome update that we expected from R3A than I will sell the X1.
Why don't you use custom ROM instead of sticking to the stock ROM? Stock ROM winmo 6.1 is not very user friendly that's why many of us here jumped ship to winmo 6.5 or TF3D...it's been a while since I left 6.1 and I'm very happy w/ my X1 although it's still sluggish sometimes (run many apps will slow down the phone real bad). It's not the best phone but if you can get around with it I think you'll be fine (you need to take control over the phone, not you being controlled by the phone )
I will wait for the R4A. I heard it will include the Blackberry Application Suite....the wait begins

Windows Mobile 6.5 today screen is crap and the start menu is really really really really really hard and long to re-order and organize.
I would only use Touch Flo 3D on a 3.6+ inch device.
There are just too many signs signaling that we are at the end of the road for the X1. If there is a r4a, I don't think it will be any bigger or impressive than previous updates. How many resources will SE pour into a phone that the CEO has called a failure? Hopefully, the X2 and X1 will be mostly compatible.

and so was said about the R3A rom now what?
I was thinking of changing my X1 to smth else, but I do not know yet what could be my new device like. X1 is great but i need more stable and faster firmware, better battery that holds longer and doesnt get hot...
Anything else... i can stand it.
The battery life on my R3a is awesome and the signal has drastically improved, However R4A i hope will be released with the new panel manager and new panels.
For instance i really like the growing panel but on R2A it ate the battery real bad. Im hoping for the new camera and panel changes olong with the new panels.
For now im happy with a lot less soft resets and a quicker X1 from R3a but i still think the X1 has a lot more to give.
I wont flash to a custom rom as im usless and will brick the phone im happy with SEUS.

Whether they used that word or not is irrelevant...the sentiment is the same. X1 was not a success. There were too many flaws taking away from the X1's hardware superiority (poor UE, lack of panels, expensive for mysterious reasons, all of the different technologies not cohesive). Unfortunately, it seems like X2 is going to suffer the same fate. I'm hoping that X3 (with WM7 I'm speculating) will be the Xperia that will live up to it's promise.

that's true, and that would be a good thing. I'm only into the X2 because of its camera, and slightly larger screen.
If it ever drops to $400 or lower, I'd consider it.
Guys,
I wonder if Sony is going to pay Qualcomm for the video drivers this time around. Because if they're still sticking with the same POS chip and not pay for the driver....then it makes me wonder why Sony Ericsson still even exists. It's almost like a big slap in the face to anyone who stays loyal to SE. They think their consumer base will -always- buy whatever they throw at them, even if it's ****ty products.
Cheers.
someone in se camp is in trouble
Guess what - it's the good old 7200A that is the CPU of X2. And from what I read in gsmarena - there are plenty of lags around the UI and the video playback speed is far from superb (comparing to some other new devices). All in all, it's the old X1 with new look and camera. I don't think that's worth even considering as X1 upgrade. It's a strange thing SE is doing with this X2.

x2 has x1 cpu
Loved my X1 especially that nice screen and hires.....but after using the HTC magic, I can't go back, the speed and responsiveness overcomes my love of my X1.
I even flashed the X1 with the EnergyROM with 6.5 etc in an attempt to want to keep it, but just find it lagging, espically if you are doing something, then phone rings and your try to answer.....ARGH, it takes 3 seconds to finally answer.......
Sadly my X1 goes for sale next week, my Magic, flashed with the Hero ROM is snappy, and does just about everything I want it to (I miss Tom Tom )
Maybe the X5 will do it for Sony....

I love my X1 and X2 is not much different, but I am hopeful new software will work fine on my X1.
I have read a lot of posts on how people feel about X1 and I think I am the only person who likes the panel interface . Anyway if the new panels are nice and slick and I can use them on my X1 I will be happy they made an X2, but for the camera and bigger screen alone I cannot pay for a new phone.
I haven't seen anything convincing to make me upgrade, and I am not sure about all the love that Android and iPhone products get, but for now I am sticking with WinMo. I got a lot of software I know and like. I suppose a slicker, full-featured OS would convince me, but iPhone is not full-feature, and I don't know about current Android software availability.
If there were an Android device with 850/1900Mhz HSDPA and a qwerty keyboard maybe I'd give it a shot, but until then X1 is king in my book.

How can some people defend this mockery by SE is beyond me.

Use your brains folks. More power hungry hardware and software CANNOT run better on the same old parts. It is simple logic that even a 3 year old can understand...
I get that your expectations were for more and that you are disappointed. I felt the same way after TP2 came out. This is no reason to deny the obvious truth and be blind fanboys though.
This is just a laughable attempt of SE to earn lots of cash while providing the smallest number of upgrades. In other words, they want to spend less and gain huge ammounts. I am sorry, but people are not that stupid and those kind of tricks won't work.
This is actually worse than the TP2 and iPhail upgrades lol.

the truth is:
Its a sexy new phone, of course there are some features that appeal and some that don't, but that doesn't change that its NEW or that its a SUCCESSOR.
Similar to the iphone 3GS, minor upgrades, but still popular around the world.

Yes what can it actually do?
HTC has blown us bigtime again.
It can´t do enything you expect it to do, exept looking really nice.
HTC cant expect us to always relly on XDA all the time.
This whole scenario reminds me of "the blackstone affair".
When I bought the blackstone I was convinced, after reading almost everything there were to read about it, it was the best phone ever made.
I was convinced this community would fix every flaw.
Everyboy just assumed the xda devs would fix things.
Ok, XDA have made blackstone better that it was at first, but its not the killerphone
I was expecting it to be.
Now after reading about Leo I get the same fealing.
I mean, were is the native multitouch support. I have read posts were people just assume xda will get that. It still have a GPS-lag. No USB-host, wich everyone seam to just say: XDA will get that. It wont! It is just too hard and to time consuming.
So what can Leo do, except look good?
For 700 euro I had expected a lot more!

I know and it makes med sad.
I have bean in this buying coma and just got woken up,
and realised I cant get everything in one phone, if I chose to buy a
HTC phone...
But how come a phone with killer hardware still havent got more to offer,
when both samsung and toshiba G01 has more things to make use of the
hardware?
So what can it do? What use do I have of Leos hardware?
I think this is a nice thread with a good topic.
then don't buy a Leo, simple huh?
Toshiba TG01 lags, care to explain me why? Yet it has the same processor as the HD2. So what is the use of the hardware there (same question)? Same thing on the samsung. Every phone has a fault or something that won't make everyone happen, that's just how it is.
No manufacturer will ever make a phone with everything in it, it's not just HTC that does this. It shouldn't make you sad either, you would do the same if you ran that company, otherwise would bring them about ruin
dont confuse HTC with windows, and iPhone with its respected OS..
HTC made this phone, made a monster, whether it does everything you want or not, its personal opinion, but HTC did make a phone, not the operating system, which is where we get to Windows Mobile, with that OS it depends on the people who make programs for each phone, but we have a ton of windows mobile devices, where each one should have its software designed for it. Now i agree with u, Windows Mobile didnt give us unlimited app's options, they left a big part of that in the hands of other programmers, which is why we are all here on XDA
The iPhone on the other hand, they made the 3 versions of the phone, with all the app's, and then released it, even tho around 90% of the apps are a joke that u install 1 time, play with it for 5 minutes and uninstall it, its still a huge amount of applications.
So you cant really ask if the HD2 can do what the iPhone does, it just takes time for the developers take that "everything i want" and put it into each program
edit: (and i really had to do this ): Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo!
^Well said! and great expression 'Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo' LOL

I expect my phone to be useful to me, not the other way round.
Oh, don't worry, it will be usefull.
Only problem will be could you use all of it's potentials... and find a way to do that...
Gaining post count
Well, seems to me new users badly need postcounts to get a free HSPL when the time comes.
Someone said, ..O dear... (that what spot on)
For the rest, if people really want 1 device that can do it all, buy
the HTC Shift.
This Hybrid OS device does everything from detecting Higgs particles to transdimensional teleportation, GSM calling and Windows 7 / Windows Mobile 6.1 with HDSPA and builtin stereo speakers and then some.
First impressions...
Ok, here some first user experience after half a day:
PRO's:
- The screen is HUGE!
- Flat device
- New TouchFlo + "multitouch" (only zooming), pressuresensitive
- Most applications and functions are fingerfriendly
- Fast(er than Topaz). See my new benchmark thread
- Led flash (not very good, but better than nothing)
- Much program memory 336 Mb
- Flat leather case, simpel but usefull I think
- 3,5 mm connection
- New micro-usb connection (is that a pro?)
CON's:
- The device is huge! To be honest I was a bit shocked when I first saw it. It's very "wide"...
- My first impression is that the screen is good but no better than the (small) Topaz screen
- Storage memory is low, only 183 Mb
- No stylus! At the moment a big issue for me. Not everything is fingerfriendly, so much frustration. Scrolling is hell! CERTAINLY AN ISSUE BECAUSE THE SCREEN DOESN'T RESPOND ON A STYLUS OR OTHER SHARP OBJECT!!! Hope I will get used to this soon.
- Camera sticks out. The camrea sticks out of the back of the device so the device rests on the silver edges of the camera. Not good for the silver, not good for the camera.
All in all it's impressive...!
Report later when I'm a bit more used to it.
(My Topaz screen look sooooo small now.....)
I completly agree with ETHANIAs first post.
There is also one BIG CON:
"Pretty much all videos under 720p played just fine without any dropped frames. The HTC HD2 has similar issues as Acer neoTouch and has even worse performance. While the neoTouch managed to play the 720p videos with 15-17 fps, the HD2 has an output of only 12-13 frames per second. Not that any of those is actually watchable but it gives you an idea. We guess the graphics subsystem of the Acer neoTouch has a few tricks under its sleeve and it's not a matter of pure CPU clock comparison."

and i should pay 700€ for this???
Sorry, not me!

I wonder why you even bother to write this. By now we all know HTC won't do anything with this type of comment.
Nice to share but if you don't want it (don't you?), just don't buy it. Indeed it saves you 700 euro. (by the way in Holland they are cheaper...).
And I am a happy owner.
