Hi all and best wishes for this new year.
My boss has a Herald (TYTN II in france).
Each time he makes a phone call, the screen goes off and the only way to switch it on is to press the power buton.
How can he change the settings of this behaviour? (let the screen powered on)
My phone (Eten X800) doesn't react in the same way, I'm not able to find how to change this.
Thanks for your help,
Steph
sorry, but for me a TytnII is a HTC Kaiser.... not Herald.
And sorry - never heard of this problem.

You're right, the picture makes me think it was this one...
Is there an Admin who can move this thread to the right place?
Thanks'!
Kaisertweak
For Kaiser (TytnII) there is a tool called KaiserTweak which will do the job (there is an option in the "calls" section to switch on/off the screen during calls).
This will change the requiered registry-keys for you.
Hi petervbeck,
thanks a lot, that's exactly what he needs!

Hi. The instructions say that you can turn the phone on and off by holding down the red phone button. This doesn't work on my xda II. Does anyone know why? Could it be something I've installed?
Thanks.
i think you have to hold the button down for a bit and then press once more there were a thread about this not that long agoe
Rudegar, I try what you explain, but it doesn't work on my Qtek 2020 too. And friends from a french forum (PDA France) with the same Qtek as me have the same problem. Do you remember where is the thread about that pb ?
well it works on xda1 and the guy in the last post claim that it's the same for xda2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4979
Thanks Rudegar. It's written in the Qtek 2020 user's Guide too that pressing and holding the red button should toggle the phone on/off, but it doesn't work. The only way is to select the "flight mode". That means : ejecting the stylus, making 2 clicks and put the stylus in his hole again. Not very intuitive. If you have an idea on how to activate this function, it would be nice ...
Turning the phone off
Pressing the red button with picture turn the "GPRS" off it it is on not the phone.
Toturn the phone off use the stylus and tap on the signal strength connectivity indicator on the top of on the display screen. You will then get a message " turn wireless off " in blue and if you tap this you will turn the phone off. You may need to use your PIN code to turn it on again ....... - So don't forget you PIN code!!!!!
To turn it on again ........tap the same indicator again and you and turn on the phone.
Good Luck!!

I know that Rafiki ! Maybe my english is not good enough and you didn't understand me.
What I want is only to be able use the red button to switch the phone on and off, as it is described in the user manual !
McDoPDA : My manual says that the red button is to end phone call or turn GPRS Off.
Most unhandy and I also find it a pain to switch the phone Off & On quickly !
Hopefully "they" will have fix for this in the future!

so, let's hope "they" will do it as quick as possible ! And that it works on a french Qtek 2020 too... not only on an english XDAII !
Hi guys,
This problem was introduced with the 1.60ROM. Before with the old ROM, I could turn my MDA II off using the red button. After the ROM upgrade it turns the GPRS off. Too bad they didn't make that a user choice.
Wouter
On my french Qtek 2020, I had the problem with the 1.52 ROM. When I upgraded to the 1.58, I still had the problem. There is no 1.60 french ROM availiable for the moment...
Hi everybody!,
I'm really pleased with my new magician, but I have a little problem.
When I push the on/off button to switch the screen off (the phone is still on), and I want to switch it on again, the screen has the bright level at its minimum, so I can't see anything, and I have to go settings to raise the bright again.
Any known solution?
thanks,
Pau
Hi Pau,
When you press the power short your magician will go in standby. Press power long to dimm the screen, press it long again to switch to normal brightness. You can switch off the phone function by putting it into flight-mode. That's why the phone profile apps are popular.
A PocketPC can't be switched of complete. You would turn of all PDA functions as well, so no reminders etc. Not exactly what you expect from a PDA.
Hope this helps you. When your problem with the brightness persists, then try a hard-reset (press power & soft-reset at same time), don't forget to backup first with Sprite (trial available) or simular, xbackup can give you problems restoring contacts&appointments.
Still problems? Go back to where you bought it & get another one.
M
Thank you very much, it works the way you explain !!!!
thanks
You're welcome, these simple things are questioning all new users, including myself .
M
this helped me realise that there is no real SHUTDOWN option on the phone Till now i thought my phone was messed up
Damn for 3 days i was reading the whole Manual, and thought i cnat switch it off, there is phone porblem why the hell they indicate in Manual press more then 2 sec and it trurns it off. Now I know why lol
Btw which application can turn it off with one click on today screen without going in to flight mode etc ?
Thanks
You can use VJEschaton for it, SPB Pocket Plus etc etc. They all can suspend or switch off the screen with a single click on the today screen.

Thaks for the reply I dont see Turn off in Pocket plus, I oly have Suspend and Sof Reset, where is that item ?
Skyward what do psShutXp do ? as i dont want to install thoussand of applications as I already have pocket plus installed
Thanks
There's no 'off' regarding your device. Suspend is the same as pressing the power button. I always use the 'screen toggle' option from spb (located in system like the suspend & soft reset option)

To all good developers out there.
I (we) need a DeviceLock Application for the Touch Diamond cause existing lock APPs are to buggy for the Diamond. One is extremly draining the battery and dont lock all hardware keys another one lock all keys but slows down the device that the incoming call is not shown.
I am searching for a simple application that locks the device after I press the power button and unlock it by a slide to right on the TouchScreen. Same if a call is incoming.
Not more!!! A simple lock without additional features. Is there a way that anyone can develop this?????
What about the standard device lock that comes with WM?
You can also activate a today plugin for it, so on your today screen you press on the lock and your device is locked and the screen light is dimmed down and after some more time shut off.
Or you press the power button, then the device is locked and the screen light is immediately shut off.
To unlock you only need to press two buttons on the screen.
To unlock you can also press the power button to turn on the device and then pull out the stylus, no need to press the screen because with these two actions the device is also unlocked.
What's wrong about the standard WM device lock?
standard WM device lock is stupid! it is very difficult to unlock device in daylight. Gray button on gray background and dim backlight... what can be worst?
If anyone know how to change colors in that screen - it would be great!

Ok, that's a point. The screen is unlocked and things could happen unintentionally.
There is a thread about this, with some idea, but I think there is no good solution yet for this issue:

try this
Hi all
have you try Throttlelocker ?
i have install on my Diamond and it run good. light version, no battery problem, skinnable........
i think can be a good compromise.
main point: Throttlelocker can totally lock the device.
problem: you need to turn device in suspend mode manually. since now i have not found a way to use it under the backlight.
ciao
I personally use S2U2, it works perfectly on the Diamond and is fairly easy to unlock. The Slide 2 Answer feature is pretty good too - stopps you accidentally answering calls.

infact on Diamond S2U2 dont lock the home button, and battery slow down very very fast, expecially last version.
with S2U2 battery life is less than one day (medium device usage)
with Throttlelocker battery life is more than 2 days (medium usage too)
due to the fact that diamond have little (big!) batteryproblem, for me better to use Throttlelocker.

maybe this app. can solve your problem.

I haven't noticed any battery problems when using S2U2 on my diamond. Every time I put my phone down, i invoke S2U2 (I have it mapped to the long press call button - never automatically, maybe this has something to do with it).
I can normally go about 3-4 days on a single charge while S2U2 is running when I'm not using it.
The version I'm using is 1.18, but I'm going to update it soon.
Hi folks
I'm back again with some more dumb questions (bear with me - I'm Irish).
On my old Nokia, I could lock the phone by pressing 2 keys and hey presto, phone now safe!
With the HD, things seem a bit complex. Firstly, there's power managenent that controls how long the back light stays on for and how long the phone stays on for before going into stand by.
Q1. Is standby not another form of locking ? If so why not just press th epower button whenever you want to lock the phone and be done with it ?
Then there is the built in locking software that comes with the app.
Q2. Whats the problem with this? (i.e. long pressing the end key and choosing 'Lock the device'; Why do we even need S2U2 ?
Then there's S2U2 itself. The settings page is long and complex.
Q3. Is there a S2U2 manual anywhere ? (to explain some of those ambiguous settings)
Finally, and here is my most important question...
Q4. Can I use my HD like I used to use my Noika - i.e. press a key or 2 to lock the goddam phone an just be done with it ?
As it is, when I want to use my phone, I have to press the power button to take it out of standby, and then I have to slide the S2U2 unlock switch. Its a lot of hassle just to make a phone call.
Is it me? Am I that stupid? What am I doing wrong ? What am I missing ?
Doesn't pressing the "End call" button for 2-3 seconds also lock the phone?
Regards!
I do understand what you're saying. I figured out something really basic just the other day, that is if your phone is locked or in sleep mode just pull out your stylus and it'll unlock and wake up.
Just 1 movement.
Sorry if this is really common knowledge and you already know this but sometimes we overlook the more basic functions on such a complex device!!
Cheers
DB
Power button into standby is a fine lock for me. Nearly impossible to accidently knock the power button to turn it back on.

Press the power button mate, and it will lock the phone
I like how the phone unlocks when you take the stylus out but i didnt like how it locks the phone when you put the stylus back in, so i removed that function using the options in gyrator
I have got TOUCH HD since 1week.
I haven't problem with touch hd like touch diamond.
it is in my pocket but the new phone canvas and the sensitive key prenve nt missing call.
for me no need s2u2 or pocket shield like diamond.
is there a registry option for disabling the unlock when the stylus is removed/falls out ????

Standby locking
I also "lock" my phone by sending it to standby with the power button. This seems to work realy good for me. The only problem is that the HD wakes up if someone is calling. So i often answer a call by accident. Does anyone know a way to deactivate the automatic wake up?
I tried the registry hack with autolocking but this doesn't work for calls either.

Should the device lock when I put the stylus in? I get the impression from this thread that it should but mine doesn't?
Every time i call someone, when they answer the call the screen turns off.
If i want to end the call or do anything else i have to turn the screen back on before i can press end.
Is there a way to stop this happening?
I have tweak_HD and changed all the settings on that but it still does it.
You have a soft key down to the right for ending calls. The screen turns off so you can stick the phone between your shoulder and ear if you must do something with your hands while in a call and thus not click something with your ear or face
The same problem.
Tweak HD did not resolved this issiue. Any other ideas cause it's relly annoying from mu point of view
already discussed
this is aproblem discussed many many time, is an energy setting. with HD tweak i think you can solve problem. but when you are in a call and screen goes to sleep tap on the on/off button of the blackstone and your screen retake from sleep.

I belive we're looking for solution which doesn't involve any buttons
The best solution should be to use the "light sensor" to turn on the screen soon as we remove the phone to our ear
I have heard that S2U2 (freeware) automatically turns the screen off when a call is connected and then automatically turns the screen back on when the call is disconnected. If you want to use the screen during the call, you need to slide your finger on the screen to unlock it.
I'm not sure if this directly addresses your problem, but it might be an option to try out. I have never used S2U2, so unfortunately I cannot confirm what it can and can't do or how well it does what it does.
