Which dual sim holder for the EXEC?

am interested in using my 2g O2 sim & my 3g O2 sim in the exec, as i have 2 separate contracts. What product would you recommend? will the XDA II ghost dual sim holder fit/work? and is the combination of 2g & 3g sims possible? Thanks

just oredred an xda exec and have the same query regarding dual sim holders. i will be using orange and 3 network sim. has anyone found out if the xda2s dual sim holder is compatible with this device?? thanks in advance

How do these work then? Say I'm using one sim for voice and one for data, obviously I can't use both at the same time (or can I?). So, when I want to go online, do I press some key combo and then the handset soft resets? Can it be made to automatically redirect all calls to the other sim and then cancel diverts when I swap back?

normally 2 sim cards go into a holder and the holder has a single sim which goes into the phone. you turn phone on and ONLY ONE sim card is active the other is effectivtly off. turn phone off and on (in our case flight mode) and the SECOND sim is active and first one is off. with some software from wivit you can actually control which sim is on/off from the phone itsel without switching phone on/off and some digital holders provide that facility via STK software built into the XDA phones. that is how twin sims work, but the main question is has anyone tried this with the EXEC model just yet???
So xiasma you could use one for voice and one for data and try to remember which one is on and which is off.

i took the gamble and bought a dual sim card holder designed for the II/IIi and tried it in my EXEC, and............ IT DIDNT FIT!!! hehehe
guess we'll have to wait for a dedicated EXEC dual sim holder

I made it fit!!
I have the same dual sim card holder and in order to make it fit I removed Exec's sim card holder. You can easily remove it by pulling it carefully out. It's pretty easy. Afterwards, place the dual sim card without the sim holder and overturn it. Then place the battery over it and with little push you'll hear the "clip" sound which means that the battery is placed. Finally, place the plastic cover and voila!

nope, tried it. there is no way u can place it under the battery without causing IMMENSE pressure underneath it. will wait till they release one that can lay over the battery as opposed to under it.

Yes, actually a dual sim holder that could lay over the battery would be better.
However, it's not that bad as you describe. Did you REMOVE the pda's sim card holder before trying doing what I did?? This way you gain more space under the battery.

No, I haven't tried to mix a 2g sim card with a 3g one. Ive done it only wit h 2g ones.
I have also trimmed cards but not for this specific dual card holder. I did it for another one that you had to switch off the phone and on again to change the active number and it worked pretty well.

It's the one you have to switch off and on again your phone and I bought it for my XDA IIs I had before from the guy of your link.
Just bear in mind that sometimes it doesn't work on Exec. I mean that even if you switch off and on again, the sim card doesn't change and you've got to do it again. I don't know why this happens, I didn't have such problems with this dual sim card on my XDA IIs.

Did anyone manage to find a dual sim holder that works with 3G USIMs?

For a start that's a fake product, so god knows how it will perform.

I have a sim max reader and 12 in 1 card, but they only work with V1 sim cards (All I've managed to clone is a cpl of really old Orange sim cards)
All the others either just don't copy, or don't copy and feck your sim card!

Yeah it works fine with the orange sim cards, its an amazing piece of kit, not cheap tho!
If only it would work with v1.2 and v2 sims it would be mint!

That looks neat - however, I have been told that this sort of thing won't work on UK SIMS due to the encryption standard we use (or something like that - sorry to be vague)
I've emailed the seller to ask him if it'll work with UK sims, and will let you know. If it does, I'll try one in the T-Mobile Vario (Wizard).

It is a UK seller so I guess it will work on UK SIMs.

Just got an email from the seller saying:-
The software is only standard STK menu
So - I doubt there is software for Windows Mobile device but I would loved to be proved wrong

From googling around, it appears that all supersims have a restriction that they only work with V1 and V1+ SIM cards. Not V2...
...and apparently all recent UK sims are "V2". I'm afraid I'm just passing on info from this forum, and have no way of checking what sims are v1 or v2. If someone will let me know how to check, I will do for o2 and t-mobile sims that I have

slewis1972: be very careful. As indicated, 6in1 are sim copiers, that require cracking the encryption on the sim before they can host the copy.
If this cracking doesn't work, it's destructive AFAIK. So, you'll be left without a sim. They work only on older Cellnet era sims (in the UK) and ok in some foreign countries.
I've posted on a £4 sim cut dual sim from ebay. Works well on Magician.

STK menu means SIM Toolkit. STK is a way for SIM cards to have their own menu with special functions on mobile phones.
This is not used much by UK operators, but it is very used elsewhere. You simply get an additional menu in your mobile phone.
This is also supported by Jams and Wizards of course, as it is a standard feature of SIM cards. One of my SIM cards have a STK menu, and it appears perfectly on the Wizard (and previously on Jam).
The problem is whether the PC software will be able to copy the data residing in our SIM cards, whether UK or non-UK. In theory, if our mobile phone can read this data, then why shouldn't this kit be able to do it.
We need more answers from the vendor. It might actually work.

A bit more research: there's no current sim copiers that can "crack" the encryption on a V2 SIM, although sim max are apparently working on it.
Every card in the last 2 years - possibly longer - has been a v2 card.
again, I'd love to be wrong as I'd love this to work, but I think it's sorta doomed

I am waiting for an answer from the vendor, but I have also sent emails to one of his previous customers. There are also guys in the UK among his previous customers.
In any case, I do not get the argument related to encryption. Any mobile phone can read the data on any SIM, as long as you give it the correct PIN number. The encryption might be an issue if someone tries to crack the SIM without knowing the PIN code, but in this case, we all know the PIN codes of our SIMs, so why shouldn't this device be able to read the content of our SIM cards...
Anyway, let's see what the vendor will reply. He is got excellent eBay feedback by the way, and many have bought this 6 in 1 super SIM...

Sirox, I suggest you do some detailed reading on this before you risk a SIM on it. There's a great difference between getting the sim PIN and this procedure. This requires you to crack the encryption of the SIM itself and clone it, and then emulate it back from the clone card.
This is not something most Operators like (although some operators will provide you with a second sim to use simultaneously if you ask).
v1 cards had a weak encryption.
v2 cards (current) are hard, if not impossible to crack, AFAIK.

Thanks for your info.
The vendor has replied to me saying that this product supports V1 and some V2 type SIM cards, about 98% of SIM cards around. And you have to note that UK GSM providers have never been particularly up for high technology, compared for example to Italian GSM providers who use much more advanced SIM cards, with lots of menus, and 128K, etc.
What I have done, I have written messages to 6 UK-based people who have bought this stuff on eBay (all with positive feedback), asking them to report back how it works and which GSM providers they use. I believe this is the best way of solving the issue.
In any case, I am not at all interested in cloning my SIM card per se, as this would be easily done by asking the operator for a duplicate for car usage. I am only interested in having my 2-3 SIM cards (of different countries) in one, without needing to swap them.
I will report here when I receive answers from those previous customers.

The product mentioned in your link seems to have different specs from the one that originated this thread, as this one declares that it can read some V2 cards too.
By the way, the indication in the note might be useful. It says that if the SIM supports more than 250 numbers it may not be compatible. As a matter of fact, my Vodafone UK (contract) SIM card has only 200 slots, so it might be COMP128V1, therefore compatible.
As I said earlier, UK operators do not tend to use latest technology. In Italy for example, GSM operators made big marketing campaigns a couple of year ago for the new 64K SIM cards. Now they are doing it with the 128K SIM cards, while in the UK I think they are all still 16K or 32K. And they do not use the SIM Toolkit features.
By the way, a couple of eBay customers have already replied that they haven't received the stuff yet, but will let me know when they receive it.

Can I duplicate a sim card?

I love my wizard, but sometimes I want to take something smaller with me. I have another cellphone, but I don't want to have to pull them apart and switch the sims every time I swap them. Is there anything out there that will make an exact copy of a sim card so i could keep one in both of them and then just turn off one when I'm not using it?

they do that here in Bulgaria, but you have to be VEERY careful to switch off the unused one..
I know it is a lenghty process and takes a day to clone the card

guttrhead: what country are you in?
Have a search on the board for multi sims or clone sims.
Basically, in Western Europe, you're unlikely to have much success due to the encryption system used in the SIM.

Most providers here in europe offer DUO SIM solutions, where they provide you with a second sim with your telephone number so you can put that in a second phone or a car system. Most of them only charge a small one-time fee for it.
Of cource only one of the SIM's can be active.

I'm in the US on cingular. I'm thinking about just buying something like this from ebay. If it doesn't work, at least I could use the sim utilities it has, considering the wizard doesnt really have any.

guttrhead: as le_cactus says, if you can get a 2nd sim, get one.
However, cloning a sim requires cracking its protection. In this country at least, that can be destructive to the sim, and even then, not successful.
I've posted a number of posts on this issue. But I have no experience with US sims...

Multi SIM Cards avalible here in Thailand as well. Switch by *100# from Phone to Phone (up to 4 phones. Check with your provider!

I've just ordered one of these super sims. Looks like the donkey's dangler, then I can keep my wizard and universal on the go and switch as desired.
If it works of course... :lol:

I have a similar card reader + card... from another copmpany...
It works fine with portuguese cards... I have it for 2 years now...
As naugthy said, it really takes quite a few hours to read(crack) the original... just depends on how fast is your computer... mine took about 8-10 hours per card (2 years ago...)...
But they also warn that cracking the card *may* be destructive for the card... But if it happens, you can try to contact you network provider and ask for a replacement because it «just stopped working»... or something...

It looks good .... but does it allow you to use your telephone service? Reading the details on the advert it seems to me that it only copies the data from your sim but mentions nothing about using it for calls/GPRS/GSM etc.
If it works let us know. I am a bit wary about swapping my sim between my MDA Pro and 6515 and this gadget looks an ideal solution if it really does work (I have my doubts :? ).

I will report back. And out of geek interest, I will be doing the cracking on an AMD FX55 processor with 4Gb of dual channel RAM, so I will time the cracking process.

The kit I have has a card reader/writer and copying software. You need to copy/crack the sim card and save it into a file in your disk. You do this for the sims you want to copy (I have 2 cards, one for each network).
After that, you copy these files into the multi-card using the same software, and you're ready to use it.
It works perfectly for calls, gprs, gsm... In the SIM apllications area I have an extra app that enables me to switch between cards.
The card I own (not the one that was posted) only has one problem: it cannot have a PIN.

Can i just get another cingular sim and load the settings onto it, or does it have to be the super sim that comes with it.

It has to be the superSIM that comes with it...

At first I thought I'd wait for someone else to try the super-sim. Now I am regretting changing my mind.
No problem with the order - nice and quick. Super-Sim, USB sim reader, Installation CD and instruction card in a neat bubble pack. The instructions were not very clear to me (poor translation?) and contained warnings that some sims were not compatible and the copying process may destroy them. The instructions on the CD were a little clearer so I decided to take a chance.
Tried it with the T-Mobile sim from my MDA Pro. 3 Hours later it told me it wasn't going to work. Same for the o2 sim from my XDA2.
Both sims still appear to be working but as I understand it, the more cycles of trying to 'crack' the sims, the more chance of destroying them. This makes me reluctant to try again with different settings.
Sorry if I seem a bit vague but I didn't really know what I was doing. I could have done with better instructions.

I too would like this info. I travel a lot and my company gives me a prepaid sim when I am traveling for them.

There is already a thread on this, use the search to find it. basically you have two options: The one where you cut your sims (try not to destroy them, with me this method did not work because the dual sim adapter was dead) or the one where you put your sims into a dual sim adapter. the last method leaves a large bump on the back of the device and causes the battery cover to bulge. I tried it, but the bulge is too ugly for me and the chances are that the cover breaks. use search to find more info on this subject.

Worked for me in my Motorola Razr V3 but was troublesome in the Cingular 8125. I haven't tested it since I upgraded my OS on the 8125. But will do that soon.

the vavolo (sim clone) wont work in many countries due to the type of sim.

Dual sim card settings/ solution

Hello all,
I've ran into some troubles with my device, since I have it running with a unlimited data transfer flatrate, that sim is blocked for incomming and outgoing phonecalls.
Solution on this trouble should be one of the dual sim adapters, which leads me to another problem. Since it seems to be impossible on my HTC Uni to have two simultaneous active cards running, the data one would be the usual active one for my needs.
But how to get the device automatically activating that sim, while its sleeping on an incomming phone call? Preferably without any costs on the data sim and extra costs on the phone sim either for me nor for the calling party.
Call deflection an possible option?
Since its probably a common issue im ashamed that I couldnt find any solution. Would be nice if I could still get some reply.

Actually, I don't recall any dual SIM adaptor allowing 2 SIMs online at the same time. Looks like you need a phone able to handle that specific feature.
Your phone is able to handle 2 different lines at the same time ... but on the same SIM card. Some Operators used to provide this type of plan. A plan, 2 different numbers ... But same Operator !

This really sounds interesting, since I've got both of my most frequently used sims at the same provider. (Telefone/- and Dataflat)
Maybe my provider is willing to attach them both sims into one, or else theres still the chance of "doing by self". Another point is that those contracts dont have such a long lifetime anymore, so most likely this will be pretty mutch possible.
Sounds way better than buying a new phone, with the possibility of using two sim cards simultaneously.
Only one thing troubles me, since I've wrote about the HTC Adv beeing the mentioned device while it is Universal. Does that one have that feature aswell? I hope and pray, since this seems to be my last chance of having it more user friendly.
