Hi all!
I have a nagging problem with my wifi-connection.
First of all -> sitting next to the wifi-router works perfect. So it does work.
But, walking to the next room, the connection drops dead.
Strange thing is that PeekPocket finds the network (it's in Red, and 90db?)
On my laptop, the connection is perfect throughout the house.
On configuring wireless networks, it just doesn't pop-up when removed.
It seems like the built-in wifi manager makes the reception worse. Any options I could do? Like other radio rom, or software?
I use WM5 now!
Thanx!

PDA devices haven't powerful GPS receiver.
You can change Wireless LAN settings more performance.
-Goto Wireless LAN settings.
-Click to Power Mode
-Change meter to left (best performance). But your device will charge more battery

GPS? it's 'bout wlan..
That what you wrote maybe makes better a little data transfer; but anyway it can't improve the range of wifi.
I have the same problem .. and wondering how to add an additional internal wlan antenna (home made)
my solution..

my solution at home; I bought 7dbi antenne for my adsl modem
Hmm. I understand.
But.. don't you mind the better way is to increase wifi range of prophet?
There must be on prophet's PCB place where is possible to connect even
a short cable with 1/4 L antenna (~3 cm).
So, i need a service manual.. or other electronic schema..
..but i have googled for many hours and for now, i've got nothing :/
I'm glad to see it's a common problem
Funny thing is that my laptop shows 'perfect connection', and my phone finds 'nothing'
It's a hardware thing I guess. Where is that antenna?

Exactly. Wififofum or other wireless scaner shows -90dbm even if signal is quite good in fact (good for example, said laptop). In few centimeters near AP signal grows to about -50dbm
(on other PDA, loox 420 shows -17dbm in that situation).

Yes. is a hardware issue.
Antenna is under the upper case, above the battery. it's a piece of metal..
about electronic diagram i have wrote in other topic, but it's without reply :/
( -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355046 )
Maybe I can help you with that issue in a few days.
I know a person who fixes these phones at a company that fix phones. He usually knows where all the hardware things are.
But there must be some people here who would know so?
***
EDIT
I just did what you said, and flipped the cover on the top back (it's just clicked). At the moment of doing that, it finds the Wifi-signal and now I 'm connected :S
Really strange.
Hi,
I have same problem, I buy 7db antena and 13db antena for my router, but nothing special. Only one bar in room where before nothing, but it go down aboute every min.
Where I can plug this 7db anten on my prophet? or do you thing when I plug it, it can work?
for the scheme you might want to check this out....

I have a JJ have quite a few problems. Would be great is someone can help me out on this.
1. I use a plantronics bluetooth headset. People always complain that they can't hear me. I then turn the headset off and try holding the brick like a normal phone (the screen is on the inside). Yet again I get the same complaint that they can't hear me. PS - More than one person said that !! The results with the handsfree set that comes with the JJ are slightly better but not good for sure. Any way I can control the microphone volume. Enabling / Disabling Microphone AGC does not help as well. Any ideas?
2. I have a GPRS/EDGE connection. I would like to connect my laptop to the internet using my bluetooth dongle. For some odd reason, I just can't connect. I have been using that technique for ages with my nokia but for some odd reason, the JJ does not connect. I use the number *9***#1 and the required username/password. It complains that a connection to the remote computer could not be established (Error 616). Anyone has had luck with this?
3. The alarm system suxs big time. It is so weak n unaudible and I have no idea if anyone is able to use it in the first place. It even does not snooze properly. Can't I set my own tones instead of using the stupid tones that are provided by default? I want something that doesn't beep surreptiously so that I miss my meeting.
4. When my password protection is on and when I turn my JJ on, I usually end up pressing the "ok" key out of habit. The screen shakes and gives me a wrong password error. I have to dismiss the error to move on. Can I disable this alert? The screen shaking should suffice for me.
5. When I want to use ActiveSync over BT, I have to do a painful search of all ports to find the one which would serve the serial link between ActiveSync and my JJ. Is this process always that bad? Shouldn't this be automatic like the USB cable?
6. Is charging with the USB always this slow? The battery is really bad and one can't use the JJ for long as you'd surely run out of power. However, I do use my JJ as an MP3 player. In that case the battery does pretty well.
7. MY JJ wifi is useless as my network uses Cisco Extensions (LEAP). I do see these options on my JJ and the closest I managed to got to connecting to the wifi was that I could see my wireless network but connecting always failed. I wish there was a better connecting utility.
8. Speaker phone is bad. Compared to my nokia 6630, it suxs bigtime. I wish it were different.
JJ is a bad choice unless one got at it the PDC for 150$ IMHO. I still use my 6630 as the JJ does not match it and is soooo bulky. The only good thing about JJ is the screen. Thatz it. I hope people tell me things/features/tricks about the JJ so that I change my opinion.
And yes...
My Nokia 6630 has groups. You assign contacts to groups and then assign ringtones to groups.
I guess in JJ you can only assign a ringtone to each contact and there is no concept of groups. Now that is one painful exercise. Any fast method ??
Hi,
Just wondered, does the JasJar connect to EDGE? I know its a GPRS extension but are you getting EDGE speed on the Jasjar?
Also I think the number is *99# for dialing a GPRS connection over wireless modem.

Well nopes I guess I do not. AFAIK, JASJAR does not support EDGE.
Have tried *99# as well. Doesn't work as well.

Mmmm... First turn on WLAN - one way is use the button below the On/Off hard button on the side of the case. This opens a screen that shows your connections. One of them looks like an aerial with waves coming from it. It should not have a cross on it. If it has, tap it to turn on Wireless mode.
Move within 10metres of your WLan Router.
Your device in a short time should automatically detect the WLAN and give you a pop up message. You will be offered the chance to connect to it and to enter any codes/keys for your LAN.
If you still have problems there is another little app. that might help so let me know.

Hello Mike
i had the same problem. i got it working by resetting the network connection. but after i always got a naggin popup, telling me GPRS cannot dial with present settings.
Since it was late last night, i gave up on PIE and use Opera instead.
no problem there

I assume of course you were wanting to use WLAN not GPRS.
If so you need to ensure GPRS is switched of, else it just keeps getting in before the WLAN has a chance to connect.
There is a recent thread called UMTS/GPRS and WLAN switching or something like that, that has a lot of discussion on how to do this. Presume Opera connected fine on WLAN.
From the sound of it though ravenclaw has not managed to get any connection on WLAN.

I'm puzzled by your WLAN problem. I assume you get no pop-up saying WLAN detected?? You could try downloading the hitchhiker application and see if that helps. http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/ remember you also need the .Netframework as well http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&displaylang=en
As for the clock, I'm sure I saw a post (and a solution) somewhere on this forum not so long ago about this skipping time zones thing. Perhaps somebody remembers it and where it is??
Mike
ill try! but one stupid question how i can shutdown this machina? not pressing 5sec power button (cause it will disalbe changes... but like normal way? )
how i can reset this damm thing?!? ... doing it hard way...
Er..I think maybe you need to take a few steps back, then sit down and read the manual?
The on / off button is top right side, just a press will put device into standby (suspend) a long press turns the device completely off.
The reset button is the small hole at the bottom just to the right of the IR lens - poke it with the stylus to soft reset. As for hard reset - havent a clue, never had to do it.
yeah time thing solved
and phone reseted
hey i need some help with this wifi I am unable to connect unless i am extremely close to any router I have tryed all the radio roms any help would be great
What do you mean by extremely close to the router? Can you say how meters?
The radio rom doesn't affect the WiFi signal, only the GSM signal.
Have you tried the following?
Go to CommManager, press Settings - Wireless LAN - Power Mode & select Best Performance & OK. This will increase your WiFi signal but it eats more battery.-
by extremly clost i mean as in laying the phone on the router or within in about 1ft yes I have tryed the power settings and they have had no affect
ok i tried reflashing to the button 105 rom that is recommended when cid unlocking and i seam to get a better signal any idea what would change between wm5 and wm6 that would cause this?
well I was wrong guess it was wishful thinking on my part
there is such a thing as being too close to a router if it's closer then 20cm to the router it can cause problems
ok lets put it this way if i get more than 1ft from the router it loes the connection and will not even detect it
also i am aware that is is possible to be to close
I have tried several hotspot and have had no luck with them either
does anyone happen to know which of the 2 antennas in the wizard is the wifi i notice s that i would assume are the antennas just not sure which is which
thanks,
yonu
well I think I have found the problem I had to open up the phone today as the keyboard ribbon was loose. it looks like the stock wifi antenna is loose I will get it resoldered and see what happens. now my next question down by the internal BT antenna and on the back of the wifi antena are antenna ports does anyone know what the jack type for these is they are larger than U.FL.
Thanks,
yonu
well resoldering the antenna did the trick if anyone is interested when i get around to modding in a stronger antenna i will post phots and instructions but it will be a few days as i am happy just to have the wifi working again
My Jade use to get a reasonable WiFi signal at home, even outside at the garage. Inside would always give 54Mbps. However yesterday we got WiFi at work and my Jade struggled to get a signal in the next room. Checked my WiFi at home and now its struggling to get a signal in the next room there also, even near to the router it won't get a full signal or 54Mbps.
Other WiFi device are getting full signals at both home and work.
I have not changed any settings or installed anything in the time between knowing I can get a good signal and now.
Any ideas?
It sounds like a hardware-defect.
Try softreset and try activate wi-fi again. See if it works ok. If not it could be hardware defect (the wi-fi chip maybe)

One additional idea: See under "Start/Settings/Connections/WLAN/EnergyMode" (translated from German, perhaps similar) and adjust the energy-mode to performance-optimized.
First thing I tried was a soft reset, didn't make a difference. Performance is selected over power saving.

Any difference, if you change it to "performance"?

Are you sure it is actually connected to the wifi? Have you tried to load a web page?
Sounds like your wifi antenna coax might have come off the little connector at the end of the coax.
If that's what happened, it's not terribly hard to fix.
Did you drop your phone on the ground before this problem started happening?
Sounds like a hardware issue because you said you've tried other operating systems on the phone and the problem persists.
And since you do get a tiny bit of a signal when your phone is right next to your router, the actual wifi circuitry is still functional.
I have had my wifi coax unattached, and was able to get a very slight wifi signal with my phone right next to the router.
Try loading a webpage via wifi with your phone right next to your router.
If it loads the page, then your wifi does in fact work. Then the problem is very likely to be a disconnected or damaged wifi coax, which is pretty easy to fix, and cheap to buy.
yes i can load webpages when it stays connect would you happen you know a guide or tut i can follow to fix this. I actually just fixed my other hd2 and the wifi works fine so it must be hardware
