Are you sure it is actually connected to the wifi? Have you tried to load a web page?

Sounds like your wifi antenna coax might have come off the little connector at the end of the coax.
If that's what happened, it's not terribly hard to fix.
Did you drop your phone on the ground before this problem started happening?
Sounds like a hardware issue because you said you've tried other operating systems on the phone and the problem persists.
And since you do get a tiny bit of a signal when your phone is right next to your router, the actual wifi circuitry is still functional.
I have had my wifi coax unattached, and was able to get a very slight wifi signal with my phone right next to the router.
Try loading a webpage via wifi with your phone right next to your router.
If it loads the page, then your wifi does in fact work. Then the problem is very likely to be a disconnected or damaged wifi coax, which is pretty easy to fix, and cheap to buy.

yes i can load webpages when it stays connect would you happen you know a guide or tut i can follow to fix this. I actually just fixed my other hd2 and the wifi works fine so it must be hardware

Wifi Issue?

Ok well I have a wifi at home, and its unsecured. When I connect it connects, but doesnt load. It just gets stuck on locating... and thats it. Yet, I can still use the windows live stuff such as look for movie thraters, places, directions. Cant view maps though. and once again cant go to the internet.
The same thing happens to my SDA. Im not sure what the problem. Im sure its not the device itself, but can somebody clear this out for me? Thanks.

Are you sure it's not the router? Can you connect to it with a laptop?
Reset your router. Unplug the adaptor found on the back of the router. Take it out of there for about 10 or 15 seconds.
Put it back in, Test it with your device (Herald or Wing) and see if that works.
It's a common problem with routers, When suddenly a PDA connects it gets stuck.

wifi help please

hey i need some help with this wifi I am unable to connect unless i am extremely close to any router I have tryed all the radio roms any help would be great
What do you mean by extremely close to the router? Can you say how meters?
The radio rom doesn't affect the WiFi signal, only the GSM signal.
Have you tried the following?
Go to CommManager, press Settings - Wireless LAN - Power Mode & select Best Performance & OK. This will increase your WiFi signal but it eats more battery.-
by extremly clost i mean as in laying the phone on the router or within in about 1ft yes I have tryed the power settings and they have had no affect
ok i tried reflashing to the button 105 rom that is recommended when cid unlocking and i seam to get a better signal any idea what would change between wm5 and wm6 that would cause this?
well I was wrong guess it was wishful thinking on my part
there is such a thing as being too close to a router if it's closer then 20cm to the router it can cause problems
ok lets put it this way if i get more than 1ft from the router it loes the connection and will not even detect it
also i am aware that is is possible to be to close
I have tried several hotspot and have had no luck with them either
does anyone happen to know which of the 2 antennas in the wizard is the wifi i notice s that i would assume are the antennas just not sure which is which
thanks,
yonu
well I think I have found the problem I had to open up the phone today as the keyboard ribbon was loose. it looks like the stock wifi antenna is loose I will get it resoldered and see what happens. now my next question down by the internal BT antenna and on the back of the wifi antena are antenna ports does anyone know what the jack type for these is they are larger than U.FL.
Thanks,
yonu
well resoldering the antenna did the trick if anyone is interested when i get around to modding in a stronger antenna i will post phots and instructions but it will be a few days as i am happy just to have the wifi working again

SOLVED: wifi connected but no internet. Help

Hi guys I am having an anoying problem with my phone.
I connect my Wifi to and ad-hoc connections which works fine for all devices.
The connect is stable and almost 100% quality
The problem is that the phone doesn't have any data transfer, I can get online for but for only a few seconds like update Weather and open a page, then is like offline the Wifi stays connected.
I tried using both settings connects to internet and to work, I got the same problem.
Can please someone help, it must be a problem in the settings, I am new in WM phones
Have you checked if you need to put in a security code? Is signal strength ok? And sometimes you have to wait quite a while for the webpage to be downloaded.

I have WEP code inserted, the signal is very strong 90 to 100% I am really close to the source.
The pages open pretty fast but after some seconds it doesnt open anything neither Skype or Weather works but the connection stays on.
I even try static IP and still got the same issue, I wounder whats is the problem, Saturday I will connect it directly to router instead of an ad-hoc to see what the results may be.
I really need help with this... It is so anoying.
I do not understand, yesterday it worked all day, and today is not working only for a few seconds and the only thing I touch was trying to connect to a network in different place.
Does anyone have any idea? Any info could be useful
I think I just found problem. DNS It seems that the phone the last dns added. What I did now was to delete the dns numbers so the server may add it again. It is working again.

I'm sure your problem needs some helping, but you're posting in the wrong device forum for that. This is the Iolite section.
By the way, the original problem is solved already, so this is considered answered.

I do not have the issue, but maybe you can try this.
1. Open phone dialer (Phone App)
2. Dial *#0011#
3. The ServiceMode screen will be open. When it is open. Tap on menu button on top right.
4. Select "WiFi"
5. Find "WiFi Power Save Mode"
6. Press the "ON" button to turn the "WiFi Power Save Mode" off. (It will show as "OFF" if it is off)
7. Your WiFi will be off and on again.
8. Try to reconnect to the Wifi.
This didnt work still the same

You haven't got smart network switch turned on? (under WiFI settings) it'll do that if it thinks you WiFI connection isn't stable.

Set Google public DNS in your router
Ok i just found out its only doing it at home, i tried wifi and my work and it works perfectly doesnt disconnect and connect, but at home it does, though it never did it before and i didnt change or do anything to my router or my phone which i find very strange.
thanks for the help guys i appreciate it a lot, does anyone know what i can do?
have you found a fix to this yet? I'm having the same issue and getting ready to just return the phone and buy something else. My home network is fine, the other tablets, phones, laptops are having 0 issues, Yet my GS5 is either dropping or something, it seems to run horrible slow and things just time out.

No, and the reason that we don't know is that you didn't provide any useful details about your situation.
If you think that someone can do more than make a random guess implies that you think that there are only one or two possible causes. But most issues, including this one, have hundreds of possible causes. So random guesses are not terribly useful. Nor are we psychic, so the only way to efficiently narrow it down is to look for anomolies in your configuration. Which you haven't described.
You should be providing as much technical detail as possible, e.g. what is your home router model & it's firmware version and configuration details, phone firmware version, any specific error messages, any observed pattern, a logcat if you can and anything else that seems relevant.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Change the router channel
Change the router SSID
Default the router comfiguration
Change the router operating mode
Update the router firmware
Move the router to a different location
Use a different router
Unplug your neighbours new 50,000 watt pirate radio station
Update your phone firmware
Buy a different phone
Sacrifice a piece of triple chocolate gnocche cake to the pagan God of chocolate and wifi
All random guesses with roughly equivalent (and small) chances of success.
Or one could try troubleshooting the issue methodically.

Hey guys,
I had this problem before, This is an issue with your samsung device and your ISP. They aren't compatible with each other.
Solution:
You must just block clients3.google.com in your modem/router. You can use Block Web Sites section in your modem/router.
Every thing has a solution.
Enjoy your device WIFI.

I have teh same issue on my S5 Cricket. The WIFI does NOT disconnect. Its connected however I don't have internet connection. Turning the WIFI on and OFF fixes the issue, for a short while until it happens again in an hour. Sometimes I slick on a link and wait and wait just to find out the darn WIFI is not connected to the internet. (probably not even connected to my router properly eg, I cant see my laptop shared drives for example).
This has something to do with saving battery or somthing. WIFI internals shut down, even though the icon on top of the screen still shows I'm connected.

Your phone thinks that your WiFi is unstable and dumps the connection to go back to 4g. Why exactly, who knows, but it's easy to turn off the "smart" network switch. Simply hold down the WiFi icon for 2 seconds to get into the connections section. Right there at the top is the smart network switch section ... just uncheck the selection box. Easy.
Lastly, people like fffft need to get over themselves. The fix for the original poster's question was easy, but since fffft didn't know it, he decided to instead attack in order to make himself feel superior. How sad and pathetic does someone have to be to troll forums looking for opportunities to attack and belittle someone else?

The issue is resolved simply by going to the advanced settings in Wifi and disabling 'Always allow scanning'.
Hope this helps.

I had the same issue. I just tried the suggestion, turning of smart network switch in the wifi-advanced menu. Seems to be working so far!
Thanks!
Well I know that Smart Network is turning off wifi.. problem is that i have a fiber at home!! So what kind of problem smart network finds on my broadband?? ?
solution to wifi disconnect problem
I was looking for an answer to a different wi-fi question when I saw this.
I'm on AT&T with my S5.
Under the Wi-Fi settings I have an option for "Smart Network Switch" which says it Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile networks to maintain a stable internet connection. Anytime a computer says it automatically does something for me; I typically say no thanks. I don't typically like my devices making assumptions of what I like, don't like or want to do. So I have that option unchecked. I never have an issue with the network stability once I've connected to a specific wi-fi connection.
Not sure if that will help you all or not. But thought I'd share.
so under Settings --> Quick Settings --> Wi-Fi you will find a check box option named "Smart network switch", untick it, this should take care of the problem.
leon.
Same problem
Hi, I have the same problem. Here some info:
- Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F), Stock, not rooted
- Android version: 5.0
- Kernel version: 3.4.0-5640614 (2015-09-01)
- 'Smart network switch' is turned off
- 'Always allow scanning' is disabled
The problem started 2-3 days ago. When I turn on WiFi/WLAN the phone constantly turns it back off and on again. Didn't happen before, didn't change anything on the router (I have no access to it ) and didn't install a new app (as far as I can remember). I don't know if it only happens on this access point.
I made a log file (adb logcat) but am not sure if it contains sensitive information, is it save to share online?
The logcat doesn't contain any sensitive passwords.

I'm have the exact same problem.
Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T)
CyanogenMod (13.0-20151203)

What's happening is as soon as my Wi-Fi finishes authenticating and connects, it is immediately disconnected and tries again. No other devices in my house are having any issues, so that eliminates the router. When I factory reset my phone the Wi-Fi begins to work again, so that eliminates my phones hardware. The confusing part is that I installed a bunch of apps such as AdGuard that could possibly cause an issue but everything worked and this started out of nowhere. Also, I factory reset my phone AGAIN and AGAIN, everything worked and out of nowhere while I was looking at my screen while idling, I watched as the Wi-Fi connection dropped and began the disconnect/reconnect loop...
I'm assuming it has to be a software issue because it only started when I updated to a newer Cyanogen. I'm about to test if other Wi-Fi networks have this problem and I'm also going to look through and post a log.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions that may lead to a fix, PLEASE help!
Thanks
Well I factory reset again, this time wiping the internal storage and everything is now fine. I did look at my logcat and there were Wi-Fi errors but I forgot to post them...

WiFi exclamation mark please help.

Ever since I connected my galaxy s8 to the router my WiFi is having problems. First every time I try to download something from the play store it takes ages ( not to talk about the system update I downloaded) it gets stuck at 128 kbs then up to 5mbs then stuck again while it works everywhere else in the house. Second, I've been getting an exclamation mark next to the WiFi sign on my galaxy s8,every time that happens I don't have WiFi on my phone AND everywhere else for like 5 minutes or more it's usually happening when I try to download something. I don't know why it's happening but it's really frustrating honestly. I once came back home and decided to leave WiFi off on the phone and everything worked just fine untill I turned it on again in the evening... It's really weird. I thought its because of my router so I decided to switch to another router which is coming tomorrow. I hope it won't happen on the new router but could you guys help me to figure why this happening to me and maybe fix it? Thank you.

That is really weird. I only get the exclamation when I am connected to wifi but need to supply a login for it like a public wifi that makes you go to a webpage and sign in. I have a G6, but figured I'd chime with my experience in the hope it helps you out.

That is strange. Honestly, it sounds like an issue with your ISP or modem/router.
I would get the exclamation when the signal got too weak, especially on 5ghz wifi which my unit had terrible reception for. Also I noticed that holding the phone by the top (my left hand in landscape orientation) would really kill the 5ghz reception and cause the exclamation to pop up and wifi lost.
I would start with login into router and make sure it's updated to latest FW and is set to auto update. Then I would check other settings, for example you may be over the limit for maximum connected devices.
Just to chime in, I have the same problem on my S8. I'll be connected to wifi and after 10-15 minutes I'll notice I'm getting no notifications and will see that the wifi icon has the "!" next to it. The wifi also disconnects when the screen is off, which appears to be a very common bug. I'll notice about 15 seconds after I turn the screen on that I get the message "Your phone is connected to xxxx wifi" or whatever it says. I use a sonos speaker as my alarm clock in the morning, so I have to sit there and wait to connect to wifi before I can turn off the music. It is terribly annoying.
I was having this same issue. I have the VZW S8+. After upgrading to new system update AQDF, I have not had the wifi "!" issue anymore. I cleaned system cache after the upgrade.
S8+ here. I get the exclamation point and disconnectivity randomly at home. Disabling and reenabling wifi works, but it's really annoying...
I was experiencing this maybe 3-4 weeks ago but my wifi has never been the best so I assumed that was the issue. I cleared the cache, reset router, forgot & reconnected to wifi, none of which helped but in time it's disappeared. Wish I could be of more help.

On the s8, this is what the ! Is intended for. When your signal is too low, it will stop it until it is good enough quality. Deemed by whatever dbm Samsung has set. It only disconnects when smart network switch is turned on. When it is turned off, you will still get the ! Which is just saying that the connection is not favorable and will be slow, so you should move closer to the router
Sent from my Samsung SM-G950U using XDA Labs
Only time I get the ! is when my home broadband drops out which thanks to Virgin is quiet often lately. Sometimes however, it still works even with the ! showing.
Unlocked S8 owner and i have the exact same problem. Getting the exclamation mark next to wifi symbol and internet connection get lost or brcome extreme slow. It is not the issue of the distance from the router...
Where can I clean the system cache ? without loose my settings or program?

I have the same problem with my office router. The signal quality is excellent but the exclamation mark ( ! ) does appear sometimes. It does not happen daily as some days the luck appears to be good but sometimes its really frustating as the mark keeps showing on Wifi and it does not work. As stated by other member above all other devices works perfectly fine. I am using TP Link 54M Wireless Router, Model No.: TL-WR340G/TL-WR340GD. Please advise.

I have the same issue from time to time. in my home I have a mesh wifi system and I notice that in 1 room in particular where the signal drops from 702 mgps to 234 mgps I get the exclamation point and can't use wifi at all. have to turn it off and use lte instead. this also happens from time to time on the strong signal. At work the wifi is at 52 mgps and I never have issues with the exclamation point and wifi not available message. the other people in my home do not have the same issue with their phones so this is definitely a Samsung issue. I have a feeling will either need to get a different phone or return it for a different manufacturer. Any ideas on a fix for this without either of those solutions?
For my s8+ Solved
I was having wifi exclamation mark on my s8+
I solved this issue with changing the wireless security settings on my router
Change :
Version : WPA2-PSK
Encryption : AES
#And also wipe cache partition of your phone#
It's working on my s8+ and now internet work perfectly without exclamation mark or disconnecting
Go to your settings, connections, mobile networks, access point names. Click the three dots upper right and select reset to default. Restart your phone. The exclamation will not return when on wifi.
