Dopod 838 pro - wireless not working - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi Im a newbie and I have read the FAQ and other posts on this site relating to all the Hermes systems.
As this is my first post please excuse me if I am breaking with protocol.
I have a Dopod 838 pro which I have been unable to connect to my wireless home router from day 1 of purchasing the phone.
I have friends who have been able to connect to my home wireless system so I have rulled out my security as a cause which is WPA-TSK encrypted.
My phone has a SC32442-400MHz processor
49.33mb of internal memory
runing Win mob 5.0
My phone detects wireless networks but will not conect, just says connecting. When surfing the net my phone will default to my telecomunications provider GPRS network rather than wireless network again due to no succesful connection.
I have heard about some registery fixes or a HTweakC (ex-Hermes Tweaker) - v2.1 which may resolve the issue however I am unable to download the HTweakC (ex-Hermes Tweaker) - v2.1 on any sites??
Will the registery fix resolve my issue or are their more dignostics I should run first?

dopod838 - problem with Internet Surfing via Wi-Fi

:?
I have just purchased a dopod 838. While I enjoy it very much, I do have one problem I don't seem to be able to solve. The problem is as follows: my device finds and connects to my Wi-Fi net, it indicates that the signal is good (and the net is an open one, no need for any password), but even though I am connected, I can not browse the Internet or send or receive e-mails. I tried to find answers in the user guide, but all I find there are generalities. I guess it has something to do with the settings on my device, but it is really frustrating, as the main reason I switched to the 838 modal is the Wi-Fi. I think the problem may be connected to the Network Adapters. When I check the Network Adapters I see the following list:
PPTP NDISWAN Minipot
L2TP NDISWAN Minipot
AsycMac NDISWAN Minipot
Virtual Ethernet Intermediate Minipot
Remote-NDIS Host
NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver
SDIO WLAN Wireless Adaptor
The only one that is indicating the IP Address is the SDIO WLAN Wireless Adaptor, but is it the one to use out of the list? And if so, I do I do that? How do I set it to be the default adaptor?
Please help...
Thanks
Benny
I only do the setup one time for my friend. Hope that can help.
If the network hadn't any protect, you can just choice this on the screen when this had been found. It don't need any setup for a unprotected network.
If the network is protected, "password / soid / encrypt". You need to setup a network card, setting > connection > network card , with all the details before you can use the network.
No success
I have many adapters, it seems to me that the only one that is the correct one is the SDIO, but I can not make it the default one.
Internet access through Wi-Fi
If you've created a wireless network between you PC and your device, you need to 'share' your internet access on your PC. Also if you have a Firewall you need to enble that too, for mine it was the generic sub-program 'svchost'. Hope this helps.
no need to set the SDIO Wireless Lan Adaptor to default. That list is just a list and has nothing to do with privilege.
i think the problem is that your Wirelan has some restrictions to access,eg. MAC address. So,ask your network administrator for help ;-)
I have an iMate Jasjar.
WiFi works fine for AvantGo updates and Weather panel updates but Pocket IE and Terminal Server Client refuse to use existing WiFi link! :x
PIE always uses GPRS and if I flight-mode my radio, it simply fails to connect complaining about no GPRS connection!
Solution:
I installed Opera Browser Beta for PPC. It works over WiFi no problems.
My trial period is nearly up so they'll get some of my money.

Wi-Fi Connection problems on my Jamin

Hello everybody !
I have problems connecting my Jamin to wireless networks. When I start wireless Jamin can't find any of the 3 wireless networks that my laptop can find in my area, but when I move it in another room it finds some other networks that are present there. Is there a registry hack to make him connect only to some specific type networks? The network I'm interested has a Cisco Aironet access point and uses a 128 bits WEP key and open authetication. I've had before a Qtek 8310 and I've got the same symptoms.
Any ideas ? And another question: whch is the best registry editor for this device ?
Thank You very much for Your time !

Wifi connection problem with XDA mini S

I originally posted this message a few days ago but as there were no responses I thought I'd try again. I'd appreciate any advice - thanks for looking ...
I have a XDA mini S. At home I have a wireless router/hub that is hard connected to my PC, but I connect to internet from my laptop via wifi (direct to router/hub) using an always on broadband connection.
I use WPA security, but when I tried to set up the XDA to connect wifi it didn't seem to have the ability to enter the WPA settings.
Ideally I'd like to use the XDA to network with the PC and the laptop for file transfers, but if I can't do that, at least I'd want to enable the XDA to access the inernet via the router/hub directly (ie without the other devices being turned on).
Can anyone help with this please - I know from other postings on this site that I'm not the only sufferer, but I haven't see a definitive solution.
Thanks
Charles
Make sure wireless is ENABLED.
Then
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->NETWORK CARDS
Click the "Wireless" Tab
Add a new connection
General Tab
Network Name: "MyNetwork" (or whatever you want)
Connects to: "The Internet" ("Work" also works for me)
Network Key Tab
Authentification: WPA-PSK
Network Key: "makeUpAKeyHere_thats-long&complex" (I use plenty of ££%!* type characters in mine)
802.1x Tab
Uncheck Use IEEE 802.1x network access control
All done!
Now make sure you have EXACTLY the same Network Key in your router and you should be good to go.
Now to connect to your PC & Laptops you use Resco Explorer 2005 (you'll need to buy it but worth every penny!) to MAP shares from your network.
How to is in This Thread
Worked for me, and I've only had my Mini S (my first PDA ever) a week!
Good luck!
Mark.
I just got my MDA Vario (same as XDA Mini S right?) today and the manual has absolutely nothing about connecting over wi-fi to *anything* let alone my home wi-fi router but I was pleased to find this thread , for a while
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->NETWORK CARDS
Click to collapse
doesn't have a "wireless" tab (or any tabs for that matter) but it does offer me a list of adapters to let me modify settings (no option to add one though).
The nearest thing to wi-fi is "SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter" but I'm pretty sure that would relate to something plugged in to the SDIO slot, and not the built in Wi-Fi hardware. Am I wrong?
I've fumbled around a bit and found one screen which offers a view where I might be able to enter the details you've given here, but the textboxes are all locked/readonly (empty) and I can't write anything in them.
I'm really disappointed so far.
the sdio card is the correct one, the wizard has an sdio wifi card inside I believe.
if you select network card under settings-connections you should be able to add a new connection there, if in doubt search for wifi connection, or post back here for more help, good luck

I got a PM about this thread, I thought I'd reply here to as the info could help others....In additon othres may be able to elaborate more on the 802.1 query
Mark,
I had the same problem regarding my mini s which you recently answered. I have a US robotics wireless router (9108) and connect it to my laptop (Thinkpad X31) using WPA-PSK and TKIP - the laptop does not allow me to check 802.1 which I understand is for large companies with a special server.
With my miniS I have found that as soon as I enter authentication WPA-PSK and encyption TKIP, the system automatically ticks 802.1 and I cannot access the page to turn it off.
I have tried communicating with O2 via email but they haven't really helped. What I want to know is whether on your machine with WPA-PSK and TKIP you can turn off 802.1 in which case mine has a fault and I can swap it - otherwise I have to find another smart phone!

Hi there, I'm a new user of these phones and understand little of Networking but I'll share my settings with you...
Under "Configure Wireless Network" I have:-
Under "General" Tab I have:-
Network Name: MyNetwork
Connects To: Work
Under "Network Key" Tab I have:-
Authentification: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: TKIP
{Greyed Out} The key is automatically provided
Network Key:- ABCDE1234&*^ <- Whatever key you make up
{Greyed Out} Key Index: 1
Under "802.1x" Tab I have:-
Ticked use IEEE 802.1x network access control
(I can't change this.)
However on my domestic Netgear DG834G router everything connects just fine, g or b. Have you flashed your phone to the latest O2 firmware?
Mine is
ROM 2.21.4.1 WWE
ROM Date 3/9/06
Radio Version 02.07.10
Protocol Version 413.1.03
ExtROM Version:- 2.21.4.101
I hope this helps,
Mark.
PS. I'll post this in the thread too, it may help others.
hello
i recently purchased the xda mini s and a wifi usb adaptor. i am having trouble accessing the internet. my computer connects to the internet using ethernet to my wall (im not sure where it goes from there). i can connect my phone to a peer to peer wifi network but it does not let use the internet, could anyone help me with the settings please i would greatly appreciate it.
many thanks

To achieve that you need to set your primary connection as shared in network connections. Once you do that, adhoc mode should be possible without issue.
Please help - similar problem
Hi - I have an XDA Mini S and have connected without issue to the Internet via my router (Wirelessly of course).
The issue I have is that I cannot connect to any network shares on my PC. When I had a CF wireless card in my Ipaq I could do without issue. I have downloaded a ping proggy to XDA and can ping router but cannot ping the PC I have the shares on.
Normally (If I was using a laptop) I would check Workgroup/Domain settings, authentication credentials etc...nothing like this on XDA.
Please help

Quick - fix
I have spent hours messing around with this - however I have had a similar problem with a corporate laptop which wouldn't work.
I changed the router from WPA to WEP and bang - worked straight away. Exactly the same on my XDA Exec so should be same for Mini S (pocket PC 2005).
Hope this helps.
unable to find network wifi
i am using o2 xda mini s to connect my laptop via wifi for transferring files.
it shows the connections status excellent on both devices with ip address 169.254.72.236 on ppc and 169.254.130.63 on laptop.
i used laptop ip address as gateway address on ppc network wifi adaptor setting.
using ping with this ip(169.254.72.236) from laptop it shows success. but can't share folders and transfer files. when i try to open the pah from the file explorer in ppc or laptop it says 'unable to find network that support this ip address' either by entering the name of computer or by entering ip address
help me in using this facility.

Hi all, new here, thanks for the info posted, was useful but i'm still having problems with the wifi on my xda mini s to my netgear dg834gt router with sky broadband.
The problem seems to be that my xda finally connected to my broadband and router, but now when I try to use internet explorer on my xda I just get
"400 Bad Request"
"Bad filename."
Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance

IE not conecting by WLAN but only GPRS

I have done as best a search as I can of this forum but I have not found an answer to my problem.
I have an O2 MDA mini S and until recently all was well and I had no problems at all using Internet Explorer to connect to the internet through my WLAN. However, last week I had to do a hard reset and rebuild the machine. Since then Internet Explorer will not connect through the WLAN and gives the following message. “Cannot connect. Ensure your phone is turned on and correctly configured…..” WLAN is working fine, AvantGo updates over it as does SBSH Pocket Weather. PIE will connect via GPRS but when at home why pay O2 good money! I have tried various things in the connections, network cards and Wireless LAN folders. This is becoming very frustrating and if anyone out there can offer help or advice I thank you in advance and will be most grateful!!!

Issues with Data connectivity on Orange Touch HD

Hello all, I am after any help or experiences with a problem I have with my Touch HD. I received my Touch HD about 3 weeks ago and I'm very pleased with it aside from a problem I have with using 3G/GPRS data on the device.
When I first received the device and set it up, I could very easily surf the internet using Opera mobile and internet explorer programs and update the weather application. However, after approximately 3 days, this stopped working and I was no longer able to access the internet via 3G/GPRS. The Weather application displays "Connection Error - there was a connection error while attempting to download weather data. Retry?" Similar sort of error messages are received in opera Mobile and Internet explorer.
After calling my network provider (Orange UK), they asked me to try many things to get it working again but no joy, the settings were correct. They finally they asked me to do hard reset, which then seemed to fix the problem but this obviously is a reinstall of the phone.
Again approximately 3 days after I performed the hard reset, I lost my 3G/GPRS connectivity and again any applications that required connection to the internet could not make a connection (same as above). No settings have been changed at all, data service just stopped working. However I have noticed that the "select a modem" combo box for the Orange internet settings is greyed out with "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)" enabled - not sure if this is important or not.
The Wi-Fi connection functions properly, it is just 3G and GPRS that does not work.
Interested to know if anyone has/is experiencing this problem, has had it resolved or can offer any guidance.
ROM: 1.19.61.1 WWE
ROM date: 11/25/08
Radio: 1.09.25.14
Many thanks in advance,
Professor
Resolved!
Issue described above has now been resolved . There is a conflict issue with Wi-Fi and GPRS/3G. Configuring Touch HD Wi-Fi adapter with static IP and DNS causes GPRS/3G connection to stop working. Setting Wi-Fi adapter to "Use server-assigned IP" (the default) solves the issue.
Further details are in this thread: http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/468581/
Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.
