Hello everybody !
I have problems connecting my Jamin to wireless networks. When I start wireless Jamin can't find any of the 3 wireless networks that my laptop can find in my area, but when I move it in another room it finds some other networks that are present there. Is there a registry hack to make him connect only to some specific type networks? The network I'm interested has a Cisco Aironet access point and uses a 128 bits WEP key and open authetication. I've had before a Qtek 8310 and I've got the same symptoms.
Any ideas ? And another question: whch is the best registry editor for this device ?
Thank You very much for Your time !

hi, i have the problem, that my mda pro is connected via wlan (DHCP, correct ip and i can use some ip tools to make tracerout etc, so this is working fine.
only internet explorer and icq and agile messenger want to make connection by gprs.
why?
what i am doing wrong?
any idea?
thank you, Wolf
I also have the same issue. Havent had time to work it out yet!
My router settings have all been checked:
MAC address filtering
WEP 128 encryption
DHCP
I can join my home wireless network but like you said no surfin once connected.
Very frustrating.
i think i found the problem:
if i switch on the mobile phone radio, it works.
it seems to me that only than he can choose between gprs or wlan if radio is on...
please check it...
wolf.
Sorry but what do you mean by switiching the radio on?
Do you mean the wifi?
Surely you need the wifi on in the first instance to be able to join the network?
he means the phone (i.e not in flight mode  )
I have a similar problem but that is for file exploring on a networked pc it keeps trying to dial gprs :x
I tried again lastnight and it maybe becuase I have WEP 128 enabled on my router. I dont really want to go any lower than 128 encryption because the security on that is already pretty pants.
I'll give it another go on just standard WEP just to ease my conscience!
Hi there,
Yesterday I bought the MDA Vario and all is working fine, except for the Wi-Fi functionality.
At home I am using a WEP ecnrypted, non-DHCP and MAC-filtered wireless connection, which works fine on all computers, laptops and my HP iPAQ.
The Vario seems to be the first having trouble.
After (I think) appropriate configuration, the Vario keeps trying connecting with my network (the moving arrows alongside the antenna icon) until forever.
This is my configuration:
I first checked up my Vario's MAC address (WiFi settings - Advanced tab) and added it in my wireless configuration.
When I setup my Vario for use with my network, it actually finds my accesspoint and asks me to enter the WEP-code.
But, I also need to setup (Network Cards) the Vario's IP, Subnet and DNS addresses in the "Network Adaptors Configuration" screen.
The only thing is, which one should I take for this?
The ones that are available are:
---------------------------------------------
AsyncMac NDISWAN-miniport
PPTP NDISWAN-miniport
External NDIS-host
L2TP NDISWAN-miniport
NE2000 compatible Ethernet driver
Virtual Ethernet Intermediate Miniport
SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter
---------------------------------------------
At first I thought it would be the last one, but when I configure the adresses in there, there is no connection to be found.

I have to say I didn't let the Vario install the stuff from the Extended Rom, by soft resetting immediately once the "first device setup" was completed.
May I be missing something from the Extended Rom that causes this problem??
Thank you very much.
search around on www.howardforum.com.
you will find info, i came accross this stuff more than once.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip, but I couldn't find anything regarding my problem.
Any more suggestions?
Try going to settings > connections > wireless lan > power mode and setting to best performance.

Tried that.... no result...
Hmm, i had a few problems with my wireless lan at home.
Firstly i couldn't get the device to connect over WEP if i entered the passkey in ASCII - i have to enter the HEX version on my mini-s to get it to work.
As for the IP settings you should use the SDIO WLAN wireless adaptor i "think" but i've tried to set all my options to a different IP and my networks DHCP just takes control anyway so i cant test for sure without disabling my dhcp server (fraid i wont be doing that - dont want to have to manually set everything)
Ok, well... it works now.
I don't know how, but suddenly the "moving arrows" stayed "steady" and there was a connection with my WLAN network. Don't know why it took so long, but okay...
Anyway, I think the WLAN antenna inside the Wizard is not of a too good quality. Comparing to my HP iPAQ hx4700, the Wizard needs noticeable more time to connect with the network and isn't as sensitive as the iPAQ's.
The iPAQ keeps a good and stable connection everywhere in and outside my house, where the Wizard loses it at some spots.
cld anyone plz help me in connecting xda exec to WiFi. I have Netgear : DG834G and the router configrations are shown in the picture
under > CONFIGURE WIRELESS NETWORKS
i can see the available network named NETGEAR ----- which is the name of my wireless router, but it keeps displaying connecting/available only.
if there is any step by step instructions in the forum plz give me the link
many thanks
Check you've got the following settings in "Configure Wireless Network" on your Exec:
General tab:
Network name: NETGEAR
Connects to: The Internet
Network key tab:
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: TKIP
Network key: [whatever it is]
Also, make sure your WiFi network adaptor in your Exec is configured for static or dynamic IP, whatever your network router is set up for.

Don't forget to reset your access point. Sometimes a simple reset takes care of the connection problem.

Does it work on the HTC Universal?
Yes the software is written for PPC. And the screenshots are windows 2003.
It should work on HTC Universal. I'm testing the software now. (only 9 Euro's) It should create more overview when configuring the WiFi network.
Benefits of pocketWinc:
Get Connected Fast
One Touch Web Browsing
Manage Connection Lists
Wireless Troubleshooting Tools
Check for Internet Connections
View Access Point Status

Sorry guys
I tried the software but it doesn't support Qtek Universal.
The tool doesn't recognize the wifi adapter. Note that i did turn it on.
I hope they will support the Universal soon!

Update
I was thinking. Since the option for connecting to the internet automaticaly does not indicate a WiFi connection... the PocketWinc program didn't find the WiFi cause i had my phone connection online.
After closing the program and turning of the phone connection and enabling the WiFi connection the program recognized the WiFi antenna.
Still experimenting with it at home. It has a Wifi Sniffer option in which you can set a WiFi sniffer interval. The program remembers the networks and you can set you favorites and even remember the settings on those.
The reason i set this program on this post was and still is for the overview of settings the program provides. You can sellect the network SSID and create a report of the IP configuration. There are several other interesting options like ping, trace route and more.
PS thanks for the link. I will check the WIFOFUM thingy
If anyone has the time could they help
I need someone to talk me through wifi..
I have xda exec but cant seem to get connected via access point..
I have installed the above software and wififofum. but nothing
Please help
router to have;
- ssid created, suggest a family name or similar, broadcast it
- dhcp enabled and auto control
- enable wep encryption (128 or 64 bit)
- use a shared key 9usually a choice of 4, pick one)
universal needs:
- wifi turned on!
_ start - settings - connections - network
- ypu should see it searching, cancel auto detects, do it manually
- in connections, add
- insert info above
* ssid
* choose wep encryption, shared, remove auto, enter the choosen key, txice
* slect and tell it which key number you chose (eg 1-4)
those are my settings to get it working initially
You can later if you want disable your dhcp, dns, wins n stuff
you may want to consider stopping broadcasting ssid later to prevent people looking for the network, but the wep key encryption should prevent all but the most enthusiastic genius from using the network.
this works on my netgear system.
:?
I have just purchased a dopod 838. While I enjoy it very much, I do have one problem I don't seem to be able to solve. The problem is as follows: my device finds and connects to my Wi-Fi net, it indicates that the signal is good (and the net is an open one, no need for any password), but even though I am connected, I can not browse the Internet or send or receive e-mails. I tried to find answers in the user guide, but all I find there are generalities. I guess it has something to do with the settings on my device, but it is really frustrating, as the main reason I switched to the 838 modal is the Wi-Fi. I think the problem may be connected to the Network Adapters. When I check the Network Adapters I see the following list:
PPTP NDISWAN Minipot
L2TP NDISWAN Minipot
AsycMac NDISWAN Minipot
Virtual Ethernet Intermediate Minipot
Remote-NDIS Host
NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver
SDIO WLAN Wireless Adaptor
The only one that is indicating the IP Address is the SDIO WLAN Wireless Adaptor, but is it the one to use out of the list? And if so, I do I do that? How do I set it to be the default adaptor?
Please help...
Thanks
Benny
I only do the setup one time for my friend. Hope that can help.
If the network hadn't any protect, you can just choice this on the screen when this had been found. It don't need any setup for a unprotected network.
If the network is protected, "password / soid / encrypt". You need to setup a network card, setting > connection > network card , with all the details before you can use the network.
No success
I have many adapters, it seems to me that the only one that is the correct one is the SDIO, but I can not make it the default one.
Internet access through Wi-Fi
If you've created a wireless network between you PC and your device, you need to 'share' your internet access on your PC. Also if you have a Firewall you need to enble that too, for mine it was the generic sub-program 'svchost'. Hope this helps.
no need to set the SDIO Wireless Lan Adaptor to default. That list is just a list and has nothing to do with privilege.
i think the problem is that your Wirelan has some restrictions to access,eg. MAC address. So,ask your network administrator for help ;-)
I have an iMate Jasjar.
WiFi works fine for AvantGo updates and Weather panel updates but Pocket IE and Terminal Server Client refuse to use existing WiFi link! :x
PIE always uses GPRS and if I flight-mode my radio, it simply fails to connect complaining about no GPRS connection!
Solution:
I installed Opera Browser Beta for PPC. It works over WiFi no problems.
My trial period is nearly up so they'll get some of my money.
As STK do not work in WM5, I can't get mms/email/internet configurations from Claro, for my 9090.
Then I ask: someone knows what is the exact configuration for Qtek 9090 and Claro ??
I've searching the fóruns and found the configs for 9100, but I think it's not exactly the same in 9090....
Thanks.

I know that. But the point is were you write these configs change from one phone to another....
An I want my 9090 to use internet in many forms, like USB connction, wifi/bt share and GPRS...
If I put the configs in wrong place, I think that will not work as I want....
i go into connection advanced when i want to choose if i use my internet for my isp or my network
Ok. And how to make that auto ?
Like that: I have Wifi and GPRS connections established. When I start PIE it connects by wifi. If I have BT and GPRS, it connects by BT. Only connects by GPRS in case I have only GPRS up...
Priority order:
1 - Wifi
2 - BT
3 - USB cable
4 - GPRS
9090 can do this automatic?
