Cannot attach any files to Messaging - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hello
I cant seem to attach any files to pop email (gmail)
I have been unsuccessful within the following applications:
1) Resco Explorer 2007V6.17 : Hold > SEND TO > EMAIL /MMS
2) Mobile File Explorer
3) From within the email application itself: MENU > INSERT > Picture, or File
basically the any application looks as if NOTHING was ever requested of the application.
The email application is fully capable of receiving emails with attachments, and fully appears functional...
Totally stumped, I must have flipped some setting somewhere, but I have been unsuccessful in finding it.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Thank you for your time and efforts
qu1nn

Problem:
Not only was I not able to attach files to email (via any method: file explorer, resco explorer, Pictures and Videos) but now that I think about it I could no longer change the today theme.
Applications Installed:
SPB Pocket Plus V4.0
Resco Audio Recorder V4.0
Resco Explorer V6.17
Sprite Backup Premium V6.0
Repligo V2.5
Chronos V3.5
Sprite Mogul ROM 2.09.651.3
Paired Motorola HT820
Solution:
1) Performed ROM UPGRADE to version 2.17.651.0
2) Reinstall all applications from scratch
3) Rebuild all Contacts and Calendar Events from Scratch
Disappointments:
1) Sprite Backup - Even though I ONLY backed up the email and personal databases, the restore ( even with selecting ROM upgrade) FAILED.
Benefits:
1) Speed Improvements
2) Better Battery Life
Hope this helps

How to make Sprite Backup 3 work with XDA2??

can someone please help me to get sprite back up v3 to work on my xda2. my aim is to backup my device to my PC. it either freezez my xda2 or hard resets it!!!
thanks a lot
Only after I bought Sprite 3.0 I found out it doesn't work properly. In my case, V3.0 erased my SMS after a restore! Solution? According to Sprite SOftware, they working on it. In the meantime, this is what I did:
For the first Backup
- Make an executable (.exe) backup file and save it to Storage (permanent storage on your XDAII). It will be a slightly bigger file
- BEFORE you run the back up (UNselect e-mail option and click on the (+) sign next to System Data, then again on (+) File System and again on (+) Prgogram Files.
- UNselect Arcsoft box
- Then run the backup. You need to do the executable file only once
For daily backups, save them to a storage card.
- BEFORE you run the back up (UNselect e-mail opetion and click on the (+) sign next to System Data, then again on (+) File System and again on (+) Program Files.
- UNselect Arcsoft box
- Then run the backup.
To Restore
- Run the executable backup file first
- Then do a soft reset
- Run Sprite and restore form your last daily backup file
It anly sound akward, but it worked for me!
PS: You will loose your e-mail account settings and all its folders' contents. But I found that I could live with this. It's better than having to reinstall all software to your XDAII again!
..like walking on thin ice!
hey michael..thanks for the details.. but sprite backup seems to hate xda2..
is there a way to back up to pc with this workaround? can i use the same approach but pc as the destination?
any news when sprite will release the new version?
anyone knows of another backup sw that backs up xda2 to PC?
thanks
Hawk
I hate to be arguementative - but I am using Sprite Pocket Backup v.3 with my imate and it is working perfectly. It even restores my SMS!
Are you sure you are not using ver. 2.X which did have the SMS restore problem?
I've tried with my xdaII , the sms inbox was restored OK, but I have some problem after the backup restored. I never received SMS anymore.
don't know why....
so I never used it again.
i'm using imate with rom 1.72 and sprite backup v3
Hey Brian
Can u please give details about yr device, e.g rom etc. and installed applications.. i never got to to work on the imate. please give some details on if u were able to backup to pc?
anybody know of any program that backs up imate to pc?
thanks

On my MDA2 SpriteBackup crashes! (automatic backup timed at 23:55 everyday) Looks like some file is in use and Sprite is not able to backitup and the whole backup process is stopped. So on my MDA2 backup has NEVER finished!
I'm using backup in ActiveSync - I have it set to automatic mode - everytime I put my MDA2 into the cradle, it synchronizes with outlook and then does FULL BACKUP.
And I'm sure this kind of backup works well - I restored my MDA many times after hardreset from ActiveSync's backup and everything was always OK.
hawk -
Your second question first - Of course you know that ActiveSync can backup your PPC to your PC (Tools -> Backup/Restore). Also, Sprite Backup ver.3 can backup to your PC as well - it can install a tool in your system tray to run the Sprite Backup PC Service.
I had version 2.X of Sprite Backup and experienced the SMS service failing to receive messages after a restore. With ver. 3.0.0 I have actually restored my imate after an unintentional HR and SMS worked perfectly thereafter.
Now, for my configuration:
imate with ROM Ver. 1.72.00WWE
1GB SD card
VITO Voice Dialer
PHM Registry Editor
MS PocketStreets
m-possible Backgammon
HP Mobile Printing
Zendrui PocketZenPhone
Syntact GameBox
Sprite Software Sprite Backup
Sprite Software Space Detective
Sprite Software PocketMon
Spb Pocket Plus
Mobimate WorldMate Pro
MS Cubicle Chaos
Laridian Pocket Bible (with 10 Bible translations)
Laridian Daily Reader
Illium Software eWallet
Total Commander
Adobe Acrobat Reader 1.0
A.Khogo tAgenda
SSnap
IDiff
I also have the drivers for the Stowaway keyboard installed.
It's pretty well loaded!

What version? I'm using spritet 3 v1517 without issue. Email and SMS restore correctly. The only conflict I've found is using GPRS monitor.
I had the same problem with the earlier versions of Sprite Backup too. After restoration, my XDA will have a complete blackout on SMSs. So i have decided not to install it again.
BRosenow, is your Vito Voice Dialer the PE version? I can't seem to get the non-PE version to work tho.

Likewise, I have no problems on my Xda II - mine does an automatic, self extracting backup every morning at 08:45 to my storage card. They always come back completely, sweet as...

Yes, it is Voice Dialer PE v3.0.
Sprite Backup
I'm using it with my XDA II and no problem. I restores everything as it was. Using Sprite Backup V3.0.0 build 1517.
I don't backup to my PC but to a SD card.
Regards,

whats the reason to backup to a pc using something like Sprite
over just using activesync's pc backup restore option ?
i understand the sd card backup but not why people use it on pc's
If I'm not wrong ActiveSync backup from PC gives problems with restore after a ROM upgrade.
Maybe that's the reason. I agree with you. It has no additional value.
Mark
I use Sprite to backup my imate to my laptop from time-to-time, just in case something were to happen to my SD backup (loose the SD card, backup files become corrupted, etc.). Considering the little time and storage space it takes, what's the harm in having a little insurance?
And I use the Sprite backup to PC because it takes about 2 min. for a full backup . . . can ActiveSync do that?
nah
with ms you get what you pay for since activesync is free is slow can be
a full backup prob take about 15->30min
i prefer to use the same program 1. to backup to sd card & pc for compatiblity reasons in order to exchange files if needed, 2. sprite does exe files 3. activesync may not restore to a newer rom properly.
the funny thing is some people are using sprite with no problem, others like me are just going thru hell to make it work.
on sprite's support they mention something about stopping some processes in windows\startup\
tried that too, didn't work.
can anyone diagnose the problem with the inconsistency of the results from one person to the other and definite solution?
Hawk
Maybe the ROM version that differs! Sprite Backup works for me fine. See my ROM version below with my signature.
My startup folder contains:
AFlashman, BTTrayCE, CFlashMan, CheckAutorun, ChgDFLnk, IA_Caller_ID, MMREG, NFlashMan, poutlook, stk, Symantec Antivirus, TFlashMan

Well . . . you need to be VERY selective of which files you restore after a ROM upgrade anyway. You cannot do a full restore (from a full backup) after a ROM upgrade, because .exe and .dll files (and others) will be restored, replacing the newer versions. This leaves the device in a state that is somewhere between the two ROM versions and will cause all sorts of problems.
You should only restore documents, email and personal databases - not system data.

Resco Backup for Pocket PC

Resco releases its brand new application – Resco Backup
After big success of its backup application for Palm OS, Resco announced today the availability of Resco Backup for the PocketPC platform.
In addition to the standard functionality such as manual or scheduled backup, partial backup/ restore, compression or encryption, Resco Backup offers many superior features such as:
• Incremental (differential) backup beats any other backup product in terms of speed.
• Backup profiles (called projects) enable backups of selected data such as messages, contacts etc.
• Ability to verify backup or check backup set integrity
• Tools for backup analysis, e.g. performing a comparison between the device and stored backup set or between any two backup sets.
• Backup sets can have comments, icons or can be pinned - excluded from the update cycle.
It is highly recommended for anyone who does not like to lose precious data.

You spelled "lose" wrong on the Website
Just a suggestion:
"Never loose your data again"
Where are we loosing it to? The wild?
The word is "lose"
Thanks,
already fixed
good. will try. hope it will become a classic like resco explorer

Yesterday we released next version with the desktop unpack tool and couple of other improvements. There is also a nice speed increase, mainly in the restore phase.
We consider this version a milestone as a lot of functionality covering the needs of a vast majority of users is included and the qualitative parameters are more than satisfactory.
Milestone means we are considering things that could be improved - exclusion rules, FTP, registry-related tools etc. We shall be glad if you have any ideas that could help in this respect.
Best regards,

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but I have a question about this application.
Yesterday I used Resco Backup v1.11 to create a backup of my messages because I wanted to flash my device (T-Mobile MDA Vario III, a.k.a. HTC TyTN II/HTC Kaiser) and I wanted to keep the SMS messages I had received.
So I unchecked everything but "Messages (E-mail, SMS, MMS)" and did a backup. I then flashed my device and tried to restore the backup, but failed. After that I couldn't even see the SMS/MMS part on my device anymore, and I was unable to send/receive any SMS. The email settings had also been reset and I had to set up my email account again.
I checked the integrity of the backup and I get the popup "Backup Set Integrity. Valid backup set". Then I checked the error log, and got the popup "Backup set. Valid backup set". So I don't think there's anything wrong there.
About the error, when the restoration was finished I got the popup "Error. Restore competed with errors. Try Restore -> Verify to restore just the differences.". At verify it shows the status "OK" at all files except the file "pmailFolders", where the status is "The system cannot read from the specified device."
When I go to Restore -> Verify, most of the files (about 60) show as "Not in device" and about 15 files show as "!=". When I try to restore single files with the status "Not in device" it shows the restore status view and appears to restore several files and then returns to the verify view. However the file still shows up in the verify screen and remains with the status "Not in device". It then requests a reset, and after that reset I have the same problem: The SMS/MMS part on my device has disappeard, and the email account had been removed.
I tried to remove some files from the backup, as I don't really care about the emails since those can be easily retrieved from my email account, however I had no luck there. If there is a way to remove the emails part and only keep the SMS part from the backup I would be willing to try that, as maybe I would have more luck restoring the backup then.
On a side note, I flashed my device with the exact same ROM I had when making the backup, so it can't be an error caused because there are 2 different ROM versions either. The ROM I used was: RUU_Kaiser_VF_UK_3.08.161.0_radio_sign_25.74.40.02_1.64.08.21
I also had a look at the desktop unpack tool, however I have no idea what I should do with the extracted files (which look the same as when you just extract the .zip files of the backup). I can open the files with notepad and read some of the emails/SMS, but as I said, besides that I wouldn't know what to do with them.
Any help would be greatly appriceated. Thanks in advance!

Hi ScarS,
Unfortunately, we have found a bug in restoring emails in v1.11. Have you tried the latest v1.20? If you will still have the problems, please let me know and we will try to find a solution.
Resco Backup makes copy of massages using database API. This means enumerating all databases in volume file (for massages it is cemail.vol), then enumerating records in the database and write it to backup. Restore will create database which is stored in the backup or if it already exists removes all its records. Then it writes stored records back to database. Unfortunately, creating new records in the databases will create new IDs of these records and mail databases have relations based on this IDs. At the end of restore, Resco Backup tries to replace these relations with newly generated IDs (they are generated by system and cannot be changed). This is the reason, why backup is different after restore.
Deleting some files from backup set to leave just SMS/MMS will not help util you know the structure of these databases. E.g. database with name pMailFolders contains information about all accounts (ActiveSync mail account, SMS/MMS accounts, other mail accounts) with all their settings and folders (e.g. Inbox, Outbox, etc.). Each of this folder has related database calld fldrXXXXXXXX where XXXXXXXX is ID of the folder stored in the pMailFolders database. Each of these folder databases have records pointing to pMailMsgs database where information about messages is stored. Names of files, where message bodies and attachments are stored are made from IDs of records of that messages so when ID of message in the database change during restore, name of the file must be changed as well.
Currently information about databases extracted from backup using desktop unpack tool is useless and is there just for information.
Best regards,
Michal Sartoris
Thanks for the quick reply with detailed information I have just tried v1.20 and tried to restore the backup made with v1.11, however I got the same problem.
Was the bug in v1.11 in the backing up part, or in the restoring part? Because if it is in the backing up part it would make sense that it wouldn't work because then the backup is corrupt.
Before I restored the backup made with v1.11 I made a backup of the current data with v1.20 and also made clone (with another application). After the restoring of the old backup failed I tried to restore the new backup however that failed aswell. Maybe because due to the previous restore (the backup made with v1.11) some settings were 'messed up'? I then used the clone I made to restore my device to the way it was before I installed v1.20.
Eventhough it would be nice to have the data back, it were only about 25-30 SMS that were backed up which I would like to restore and they arn't too important, so if I would end up not being able to it wouldn't be a complete disaster. So if it would take up a lot of your time and you have not had similar problems I wouldn't mind if you discard my problem. I am using a trial version, so I havn't paid for support either.
Thanks for the reply so far, I really appriciate it

Backup sussefully done but restoration always gave error. It wont return to the original stage , so I continue using Spb backup which is more accurate for backup and restoration after hardreset.

Hi ScarS,
The bug was in the restoration part.
Have you noticed the error description immediately after restore? When restore ends it displays a list of all restored items with a short description. Errors have red text and are listed first.
The error you had after verify means that read (probably from zip) failed. Are you able to copy the files stored in the backup somewhere else using file browser?
Unfortunately current integrity check will not catch all problems. It just reads crcs from all zip files and compares them with one stored in separate file.
Would it be possible for you to send me your backup? I understand if not as such data are very sensitive.

Michal Sartoris

Hi there resco, I currently use "sprite backup" because it has the ability to restore after a rom upgrade and also to a new device. I can't say that it is without bugs, can you tell us how your product performs in theese actions please?

Hi,
Currently, Resco Backup does not have such a feature. When you try to restore on different device/ROM, you will be warned, but you can continue to do so.
Personally I have tried a few times to restore backup from one device to another and it looked ok. But I did not check it into details. E.g. I have succeeded to restore SMS on device without phone

Small tips X1i

I've been using these small tips on my Kaiser, Diamond and now X1i. As this forum is for sharing I'll share the ones relative to X1i
1. If using TF3D, this path
Computer\X1i\\\Application Data\HTC leads to folder YGO which stores all your Stocks TAB data. Copy it to Storage card before testing/ using new ROM and then copy back after ROM install. Your Stocks tab is re-configured.
2. If using TF3D, the registry entry backup and restore can be used to restore list of cities and weather settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila
3. Similarly if you have installed a software with registrtation key and are a frequent ROM tester, then go to this link
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XXXXX
where XXXXX denotes your software such as Webis (Flexmail), SPB Insight etc etc.
Backup the reg key and restore after fresh install and save headache of reinstalling all keys/ settings
4. Similarly for owner settings also backup and restore following:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Owner
5. For X1i Panels, only SE panels can be configured. Go to
X1i\storage\\Program Files\Panels
and copy folder "SonyEricssonPanel" to your storage card/ computer etc.
Copy back before opening panels after fresh install/ hard reset and your SE panels work with your customized settings as before.
may be the simple settings but I felt like sharing and I did so
Thanks

Resco registration data location?

This is absolutely No warez question or anything related to this.
I am flashing rom a lot recently, and i want to be able to insert registration data during UC so that i don't go to put it manually each ROM install.
But where does resco apps put their registration data? I made a full system backup, inserted my serial then another full system backup (less than 2 mins after the first full backup), then i compared both, i found not much between the 2, there are no registry keys modifications (only those for internal times or contacts), no new files, just the PIM.vol modified.
anybody knows if there is a method to auto-register Resco Explorer or the resco games?
(for SPB Pocket Plus, using same full backup method, i found the registry location for the serial, and it works to auto register during UC)
wmtrigger.dat under \windows

HTC ROM UPGRADE - Missing contacts & apps

hmmm I installed the EU Rom upgrade, having removed storage card amd take a copy of PIM.VOL. Upgrade completed, I can see apps on my storage card but my phone can't see them in the list of programmes, so I can't add them to programme font page or start menu... My phone also doesn't seem to see the pim.vol so I can't reload all my contacts (no they weren't all on my pc - I can sync with that fine but not all my contacts were on pc)
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE - I can't be the first - or last - with this..!?
thankyou
Mark
Try TotalCommander to copy the file + backup your contacts with PIMBackup2.8 in future. As for the apps, you need to re-install them, so you can safely delete the apps on the storage card saved under Program Files
Thanks, going through various cab files etc and re-installing, TomTom next! Copying pim.vol hasn't worked, I have some Mob no's on my sim and can see them but bizarrely when I try to add to favourite contacts, all I see are a few email addresses, not the (few) mob no's I have on the phone. Looks like I will have to re-source these , what a chore... I though that copying the pim.vol would save me this task (am sure I read it in these august forums!)
all the best, Mark
ps any other tips on how to fully restore what contacts I have, so I can add them again to favourite contacts, are appreciated.
You may want to look into Sprite Backup. It's very nice for restoring system state after moving to a new rom. After flashing a new rom I have all applications / contacts / emails / texts / etc back on my phone within 10 minutes. I don't have to install anything. It's quite nice, especially with all the flashing and testing I do.
