PocketIE not connecting - Networking

Hi,
I have a WM2003SE PPC (Qtek 2020i aka HTC Alpine). I have problems connecting to the net via Pocket IE with my WiFi/ActiveSync connection. But strangely, my SBSH Pocket Weather, Pocket MSN, Resco Radio, Resco Update connects to the net with no problems while connected thru WiFi/ActiveSync.
While trying to open an URL, I get a Pocket IE error saying: "The page you are looking for cannot be found."
Why am I having problems and how do I fix this isue?

LOL
strangely, this has fixed my problems:
Many Axim X3i users have problems with Pocket IE reporting "The page you are looking for cannot be found." Some users have found updating their X3i to ROM version A01 solves the problem.
Another solution (reported by Markprieb on AximSite) is to perform the following:
1. Open File Explorer
2. Go to Windows Folder
3. Scroll Down to the "W"s
4. Click on Welcome.exe
5. You will go through the welcome screen like you did when you first got your PPC (Note: Even though this will take you through the same process like after a hard reset, this is not the same as a hard reset. Your data/programs will not be lost).

AvantGo Problems

Ok, I have never had problems on my imate with AvantGo until the last hard reset - now (eventhough the software shows its synced up), the AvantGo default screen keeps coming up from Internet Explorer and the AvantGo connection options do not appear in control panel.
Anyone know of any way to "reset" AvantGo in WM2003?
Thanks,
Jon.
This problem has been discussed elsewhere (can't find the link at the moment). It is a known "feature" of AvantGo.
Basically, you need to sync with AvantGo once with the default 'anon<longNumber>' user name. This will trigger ActiveSync to re-transmit some DLLs and other files to your imate.
People recommended a sequence of removing the AvantGo user settings in ActiveSync, disabling/enabling AvantGo in ActiveSync, doing a soft reset. However, this never worked for me, so I can't give exact directions. I ended up re-installing ActiveSync after doing a hard reset to my XDA II.

Just managed to get my AVANTGO to work using tadzio's suggestion below are the steps I took
On PC open activesync selsct avantgo and click settings.
selsect the correct server profile and click properties
delete the user account details and click OK
click close
click OK
Activesynch will now sync and avantgo will copy the dlls to your device and will create the avantgo connections in settings connections if you did not have it already.
Now repeat the steps above but enter your avantgo user details and sync again to get your avantgo content
Thanks VERY much for that, I've been having problems for the last 2 days with AvantGo, I've reinstalled, resetup... bla bla bla.... but always had my user details in when doing a sync... After Del my user details all works 100%....
GREAT WORK GUYS...
Thanks for the info
a couple of months back i brought up a topic where i was experiencing problems with avantgo...namely i would always get a runout error when activesync tried to get the pages from the website. a helpful chap said it had something to do with my connection on a proxy server; this was true because our company does indeed use this type.
with that in mind; is there an app where you can sync the page directly to the xda? example; if i'm looking at the frontpage / homepage of cnn is there an app which will grab that entire page so as i can read it on the xda later?
cheers

ActiveSync 4.1 with Win2K

Hi
I have a KJam and I am trying to sync it at work. I downloaded AS 4.1 on my Win2K pc but it keeps giving me the Retrieving Settings message for ever. I dont think there is firewall on the pc and I need some help to get it running
Thanks a lot
any help guys, still have the problem
XP Needed
i think you have to use microsoft windows xp to sync your wizard.
So no luck with Win2K, I thought that people can do it with Win2000 and aslo from Microsoft Site AS seems to be working on 2000
Thats really bad
Me too
I also have this problem with one Wizard - my wife also has a Wizard, exactly the same which has no problem syncing to the same PC. I get the same message you get " retrieving settings" which hangs for ever until I disconnect. I'm on W2k.
Did you find and answer? It's obviously not a W2k issue if one Wizard can sync.
No I cant still sync with WIN2K, someone suggested that you do hard reset and it should work. I tried on mine and still didnt work
A random guess- applied SP4? Also which firmware version you are using?
Finally I have it working!
William - Yes, I'm on SP4
Akronica - I've finally managed to get both Wizards sync'ed. Here's what I had to do. Firstly, I'm using Sygate Personal Firewall, so I follwed the directions via the link here to set up the advanced rules. See http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm This also might be useful to you for troubleshooting.
Then I added/altered 3 registry settings in my PPC (as also mentioned in the above link) using a freeware called "PHM Regedit". I downloaded the PHM Regedit from here:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
Just a note: I obviously couldn't use the ActiveSync installer to get this product installed, so I copied the entire directory over to my phone (via mini SD card) and then tried to launch each file. The first few didn't install successfully, but I finally did get one to install OK. The file that worked for me was "regedit_Mrln_ARM.CAB".
So, after all that I connected up and as soon as the cable was in, I soft reset the PPC. Sure enough, it made a new connection via the connection wizard and off it went.
Another note: I also turned off any passwords on the PPC, just in case. I'll do some more playing and see if this makes any difference.
Hope this helps!
Rob

Interesting
On mine it connects (win2k SP4), but drops the connection about 60s into sync.
I've now confirmed that the passwords had no impact.
I don't have any problems with it dropping connection either.
Wow yeah, I've had absolutely no problems synching with my win2k sp4. hm.

Problem with Internet Passthru via ActiveSync

I had all this working until I did the new Cingular 8125 update, and at the same time I updated ActiveSync 4.2 ... But I don't think it is necessarily one of these causing it ... could be emoze install.
Whenever I try to go to anything on the internet (mail, browser, other apps) while connected to ActiveSync I am blocked. I didn't use to have this problem.
From the browser, if I try to enter a URL I get the following: "The page you are looking for cannot b found due to unknown error 0x80072f78."
Everything works from GPRS/EDGE, but not while connected to ActiveSync.
- ActiveSync is set for connection to "Automatic" (I tried both My Work and Internet)
Any ideas?
I have the same problem
I have the same problem as well.
Me too!
As soon as you connect your phone to active sync it will automatically use your computer's internet connection as the default, so bt and/or gprs will be disabled, this feature is by design unfortunately...
If you connect your phone just to charge it or take remote control with something like SOTI Pocket Controller then disable the USB connection within active sync and make a TCP/IP connection for SOTI Pocket Controller if necessary.
That is the problem... Activesync isn't serving as that Conduit anymore. Before the latest firmware release it would pass the connection through and you would use your laptop/desktop PC as the internet connection and override the GPRS or other network settings.
Now, when you connect to Activesync, it is returning an error. This seems to be a problem in either the Activesync 4.2 or 8125 new release. The problem starts as soon as you load these. Nothing else loaded, etc.
Anyone have any ideas on this? It is troubling as my automatic updates no longer work when I am syncing and aren't there now when I disconnect.
I also use this for demos showing mobile web sites.
Please help!
I have the same problem..anyone can help
Directly from Microsoft:
"To all those who have had problems with connecting to the internet from the device when upgrading from ActiveSync 4.1 to 4.2:
ActiveSync version 4.2 made a change to how it interacts with the Windows networking stack to use Layered Service Providers (LSPs) on outgoing Desktop-Pass-Through connections. This allows for improved compatibility in environments where connections to the internet must be passed through these LSPs (ISA Proxy is one such example).
Unfortunately, it appears this change has caused some issues for a small segment of users who have LSPs that interfere with ActiveSync communication.
There is a registry key fix which will essentially remove this change.
Please download and rename the attached text file with the .txt extension to the .reg extension. In other words, change the file LSPvalue.txt to LSPvalue.reg. Afterwards, please double click on the newly renamed .reg file and click on the "Yes" button.
This should resolve your issues.
Thanks,
Edington

Here is the reg patch. It works...
I had the same issue. I didn't apply that registry patch but I did change something in activesync. I did "File" > "Connection Settings" and in the drop down on the bottom that says "This computer is connected to" the default is "Automatic". I set it to "The Internet" and I've gotten connectivity ever since.
That did it! You rock!!
BTW, I tried the other suggested fix of the connection settings, which did not work. The registry patch is the only fix I know of that works!

for me, the activesync-settings change worked, no reg patch needed.
so it is at least worth a try...

PPC 6700 Unable to Map Drives

I have had the same problem with my PPC 6700 running WM5 and WM6.
I have installed the HTC Network Plugin CAB. I can see the servers on my network (all thru WIFI). When I select the server, it prompts me for my user ID, Password, and Domain (click save password). I click OK and it comes back requesting login info again and again and again.......
I have the same issue from Pocket File Explorer when I open a path to the //server/share!!!!!
I have a Dell X30 running WM 2003 SE and I can access all of my shares with no problems on the same network!!!!!
What am I doing wrong?

I upgraded my PPC-6700 to WM6 and could not access my shares. When I reflashed to WM5 I was able to access some of the shared folders i.e. small folders.
On folders with many files I got "out of resources" messages which seems to be a different issue.
Flashing back to WM6 and I get the same User ID/password/domain and I use my Username/password and get cannot connect error. I am on a workgroup and don't run a domain. I've checked my folder permissions and they are set correctly. I have searched all over and it seems many people have the same issue with WM6 but I have seen no solution. However since I have got my USB connection working with "Enhanced Network Functionality" I haven't been too concerned about connecting through the network shares.
Try doing it without saving the password. Works for me on WM6 connecting to a vista PC. It is REALLY slow. Once mapped, it works fine.

WM6 Voip Client in PDA not SmartPhone

Hi all,
I've installed cab files wm6voip.cab and wm6-sipconfigtool200.cab into a Siemens Loox N560 Pocket PC.
After restarting the device the following message appears:
"The file ':MSCprog' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file"
Phone symbol is shown in top bar but when I try 'Settings', nothing appear.
'Internet Calling' is show in Today settings but nothing appear in Today screen.
I've successfuly installed these two cabs in an E-TEN X500 - wm6 and is working great with voip calls.
So I think I need a phone application. Where can I find one? Does wm6 voip client work without a phone application?
Regards,
There's no cprog (phone dialer) on PDA, you need a smartphone.
MS WM6 VoIP/RTP stack may exist somewhere for PDA, but it's not the same as the smartphone version you are trying to use.
Thanks for the reply.
I googled so far but only xda appears with wm6 voip... Fujitsu-Siemens has dropped PocketPC line.
Do you know where can I find such version of wm6 voip for PDA?
Thanks in advance.
