08 Altima Bluetooth - Mogul, XV6800 General

We just bought an '08 Altima with the bluetooth option. I can pair the XV6800 with no problem, but quality sucks. It is super choppy on my end and the person on the other end can't hear me at all. I tried my wifes XV6800, same thing. I can pair my old E815 and it works perfectly, so it's not the car. I tried a hard reset, no difference.
I tried loading dcd's clean rom 1.6.7, no difference. Is the BT stack upgraded in this rom?
Is there a newer BT stack out there that I could try?

Its worth downloading and trying the Jetware BT Extensions and see if that helps....but usually it does not change quality so much as enable functionality.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't help.

Developer help with Infiniti/Nissan Bluetooth?
I've got the exact same issue with an '07 Infiniti G35 w/navigation. I've been doing lots of reading on the xv6800's bluetooth, have tried DCD's and Custel's roms, and was just about to start my own thread, but I'll bet our cars are the same bluetooth/rom wise.
Jetware didn't help me either.
Here's the best fix I've found and it works for me consistently.
-Whence the option's available depending on whether you're dialing out or receiving, click the "use handset" button (transfers call to the xv6800).
-Shortly after press the "phone" button (transfers call back through car).
-Should work as expected after that.
Anyway, at this point I'm hoping one of the kind devs on this forum (DCD or Custel to name just two of many) might find a sec to help us out, although I'm aware and appreciate the fact that many other users are keeping them very busy on their own projects.
I'm assuming the xv6800's hardware would be most similar to other HTC pda phones (not sure what happens between GSM and CDMA devices), so here's a list of their phones who's bluetooth does work with my car (from here). It supports the bluetooth in 144 phones total.
Kaiser (wasn't working with stock rom, but works after this patch from HTC)
Hermes
Atlas
Wizard
Apache
Magician
Harrier
HTC pda phones that don't work with my car (at least not 100%).
Vogue
Elf
Titan
The Titan DOES work with an '07-'08 Infiniti G35 WITHOUT navigation (buy more, get less ).
In addition to the stock Verizon rom I've tried DCD's 1.6.1, 1.6.7, and Custel's 1.1 with no change in the symptoms.
It's my understanding the dev community thinks modding the Vogue's bluetooth for the Titan shows the most promise. I found this thread mentioning an alternative, but it seems to have gone stale on another forum. I'd prefer not to use that forum.
I understand the Vogue's bluetooth might show the most promise for general bluetooth applications (which would satisfy the most users), but becuase I plan to use bluetooth solely through this car, does anyone know if I might be able to go an easier route given the information I've provided?
I'm using radio 1.40.00, could 1.47.01 make a difference?
Can anything be learned through HTC's Kaiser update patch?
Are there any bluetooth alternatives being tested that I haven't found?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

OK. I tried what you said and confirm the same results on the '08 Altima. If I switch to handset and back to Bluetooth, the sound is clear (weird). The only problem is, I can't switch until a call is in progress. This is a work around, but not a good one. We need a BT stack that fixes this. Or maybe firmware upgrade from the auto manufacturer.

I know this is going to sounds like a cheap shot, but it sounds to me like something needs to be fixed on Nissan's side. I've tried mine in an Accura without any problem, however both of your stereos are manufactured by Nissan.
A word of advice: I always found that auto makers should stick to what they do- namely, make cars. If Nissan were so great at BT stereos, you'd see nissan headsets.
I never bother with factory Bluetooth anymore- I swapped my stereo right away for a decent Sony Xplod system that supports A2DP (wireless stereo) as well as phone calls. The aftermarket stereo not only sounds great, but I play all my music from my phone without taking it out of my pocket. Last I checked, no stock car stereos supported this. Sony is good at stereo and bluetooth (been around the block a few times).
Complain to Nissan. Or swap your stereo for something decent.

My Sprint 6700 with BigJ Rom works great with the 08 Altima. In the fact the audio quality is better than the Sanyo Katana that I also have paired. I am dispointed that I cannt answer calls from both phones on the car headset without first selecting the phone that has an incoming call. Even my At&T home phone with bluetooth can do that although it does require you to select a cellphone for outgoing calls.
I was able to upload a contact entry from my 6700 to the car Download phonebook. However, I can not get that into the more usable phonebook directory. Anyone succeed in doing that?

You might be in the wrong forum. The Titan is a 6800, not a 6700.

yes, but this thread is discussing the Altima BT stereo. Truthfully, this whole thread should go in a more general BT forum, since I don't think it pertains to the 6800 exactly.

08 altima bluetooth
Just wanted to say thanks to Park City for posting the name of the web site with the bluetooth extentions (jetwaremobile.com). I have just recently purchased an 08 Altima with the Nav system and bluetooth. I have an Tmobile MDA with a cooked ROM running WM6 and I could not get the entire outlook phone book to download to the car. Once I installed the jetware mobile extentions everything worked just fine. I even got some additional functionality I was not expecting like signal strengh and battery status on the nav srceen. As for voice quality, it's never been an issue for me. So far anyway

As I can see, they are currently testing the Mogul with both of your cars. I don't know what they mean by 'testing', but that's what is going on right now.

I saw that too, but I don't have a lot of confidence they'll be releasing a bluetooth update any time soon. That's why I was hoping the Titan's bluetooth hardware might be similar enough to the hardware in one of the devices that DO work with our cars (Kaiser, etc., list in my earlier post) that their bluetooth software could be ported "easily" to the Titan. I'm sure the devs here are trying to get the Titan's bluetooth to work as well as possible for everyone's devices, which makes sense. However, with California's new "handsfree driving" law starting July '08, I'm only concerned with getting the Titan to work with my car.
Apparently no one's too sure if that's possible.

1. have any of you verified first hand that the kaiser does in fact work?
2. could someone research and identify the bt hardware in the kaiser, and the titan?
3. has anyone run the kaiser bt fix on their titan and tried it?
i suppose i never thought to look at the kaiser's bt. mine still functions after applying that kaiser patch..
the kaiser patch is a replacement TIInit_4_2_38.bts file
this file did not exist in any titan roms prior to 2.16
2.16 introduced this file (i compared md5 and its not the same data)
2.17, htcs supposed 'fix', does NOT contain this file
all vogue roms i have seen DO contain this file, but again its different data
maybe you guys are on to something
i will throw something together tomorrow probably...drinking time.

dcd, thanks for the help, enjoy those drinks!
1. Not first hand, I'm going off this post. That thread's also why I believe the Kaiser wasn't working with the car before the patch.
2. I've spent a lot of time trying, but have come up empty on any detailed hardware specs.
3. I just ran the Kaiser patch and the bluetooth functions the same as it does without the patch.
I'm using a rom from your 1.6.7 kitchen with nothing else added (rom's working great, btw). I had the same issue with the stock Verizon rom.
Crazy thought, but if the cooked rom I'm using is based on a stock rom that didn't originally include the .bts file (2.17), could it be being ignored?

i take it they are completely different head units?

I have a 07 G35 WITH Navi and yes, the quality is choppy when I connect my phone to it. I have been just using my Platronics Discover 640 for the BT these days... It'd be nice if someone can come up with a solution for this...

They're pretty different. With nav you get a 10 gig hd it'll rip cd's to, the nav runs off that hd, the gui which controls much of the car is different, voice prompts are different, the available buttons are different (see attached pics), and you lose a cd changer. I do know first hand that w/o nav the bt works great with an XV6800 (got a loaner once). Again, I've been unable to find out what's specifically different hardware wise (even with the full service manual).

Once connected, I get a really static noise from my end while in the conversation. Of course, it'a really not usable at all....
I'm going to try the reconnecting method that was mentioned above today. I'll come back and report the outcome. And thanks for the help BTW.
EDIT: BTW, my Wizard (Cingy 8125), Hermes (Cingy 8525), Samsung i760, and few of the Moto handsets are all fine paired to my car. MAYBE, someone can get the BT stack from Hermes to work with the Titan?

well, peices of it maybe. i would blindly guess that the kaiser is closer to titan than hermes, but we need to exactly identify the bt chip in each. plus its still shady then, ie the kaiser has tnetw1251 for wlan same as the titan and I cannot get their newer wlan driver to work on my device.
what we really need to look at is previous bt stack modifications for other devices. i need a better understanding of tiinit_blah. I've also noticed that the devices that work have a more extensive, or a 2nd audiopara file that sets values for some bt devices. to be completely honest right now i dont know what im looking at and i need to figure out how it all fits together before i know where to start.

Well, I tried reconnect method from both phone and the car, but neither did anything at all. The quality is still crappy as heck. Man... I reallly wish this works.
EDIT: Actually my side of the speaker was complete static, and the other side could not hear what I was saying AT ALL. This efing blows.

A2DP for WM5 coming soon...

I'm looking for a way to redirect my TomTom voice instructions from my MDA Vario through my Parrat CK3300 BT carkit sounding on my car-speakersystem by using the bluetooth stack. Now Parrot claims this isn't possible due to a phone limitation. I agree and think it's shortage of Microsoft WM5. Now I've looked up some info about Bluetooth Audio Distribution and found the following:
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
AKU 2.0 for Windows Mobile 5.0 (for both, Smartphone and Pocket PC), which is expected to be released early next year (2006), will also includes support for the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile profile which is designed to transfer a stereo audio stream like music from the device to a headset or car radio.
A2DP is already implemented into the Samsung SGH-i300 Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Smartphone, however this isn't based on Microsoft's A2DP implementation but Samsung added it itself.
(Refer to http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2779 for more info concerning this subject.)
So if this article is based on true facts, it means that Microsoft will soon release a patch for all WM5 based devices, which enables them to receive all audio (e.g. TomTom voice instructions) through the bluetooth stack.
Somebody knows more about this subject and if it's true that after having AKU 2.0 installed, you can hear the navigation instructions through your carkit or headset?
Many thanks,
Youri Festen
there is a facility on this forum that will allow you to switch audio to and from the bluetooth, not high quality or stereo but standard quality.
There is ?
Been loking around in the threads for quite a while, but didn't find a replicatable solution...
Here you go
Tried all kind of files, but no go...
All i want is ALL audio over the Carkit (Supertooth2). That is TomTom + Phone.
I don't care if i have to trun of the carkit to return audio to the phone. But i don't want to have to reset or something.
I have a XDA (Himalaya) btw. Still with Rom 1.72 00WWE 15/03/2004 (Ext Rom 1.72.125)
Tried all these :
BA_OEM_AudioGW.CAB
BA_WM5_Voice_Dialer_2.cab
BCHS_FOR_POCKET_PC_OZONE[1].ARMV4.CAB
Broadcom Corporation BT-PPC AV.cab
Broadcom Stack + Switcher + Icon.zip
BroadcomCorp_BT1.0.0.3900.cab
BTAGExtModule-2.zip
btagextmodule.zip
btaudio.zip
MS-BT-107.ARMV4.CAB
SCO settings all BT.txt
voicedial2.rar
whoa it worked
i know im reaching here, but really wanted to try to stream to the new cingular 2125 (aka hct). downloaded and ran the app with my iphono steroe headphones (luv em), got intresting results.
it worked. ran the app, pushed the button on the headphones, got music. call came in, answered (with auto answer) talked, and on hangup it went back to music. however, if i ran another app on the phone such as voice tag in contacts to initiate a call, it brought in the call, but on hangup went back to the speaker. had to run the toggle on again to get headphones working, not elegant - always want more - but im a happy guy til a2dp comes out for mobile 5. thanks!

Try reading and understanding what you read before posting. See the post of dalamario that is the BTAudio on/off tool !
Is this goingt to be anter shout and wild guesses about what file or tool should "really"work ?
I tried all so called "easy" fixes, hell, i've even got a whole dump of my registry, cut through all the BT + Audio and BT + Headset threads, here and on PDAPhonehome, Howardsforum, and the reduced-to-user-bla-bla on pocketPC-club.nl.
And still zilch.....
Ow, and don't think i'm someone who wants easy answers... Think again, i've been around quite a while on PPC forums and the lot....
What i do want/like is usefull answers ans clues on how this BT and Audio stuff works, beut even after reading some on MSDN i can't find a solution yet....
That's why i jumped in on this thread, i'm not going to reinvent the wheel if some allready has the solution: Tomtom and Phone audio over BT
So i'll stop writing now, and continiu searschin for a solution... There must be one...
Sorry mr high horse, wont bother trying to help next time just in case i might not be right, but then if everyone did that no one would answer anything.
The Wizard can do system Audio over bluetooth.
This has been proved with the easy hack that allows you to activiate voice dial using a BT headset.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29837
MS Voice Command leaves the Audio Gateway open after initialising, whilst Voice Dialler closes it.
So maybe try installing Voice Command and doing the hack in the above referenced thread, and then see if you can launch Voice command from your car kit. This should leve the gateway open and allow all system sounds to stream to your BT kit until you hit the button again.

We here are all trying real hard for months now, you see....
Just a little patience. Test version of Qtek 9100 ROM with A2DP already exists. It works with I-Phono bt-stereo, for example. So I think it will be released by March.

Do you think that when it works with I-Phono, it will also offer us the navigation voice instructions through BT-headsets or carkits? Hope so!
Can't test it with car navigator.
if audio streaming is enabled, i would have thought you should be able to hear navigation commands.
i have used the bt audio switch that started this thread to hear tomtom commands through my headset, and it works fine.

I bought the Qtec 2020 because BT seemd so much easyer

Questions from a new(bie) Mogul owner

Hi all,
Please go easy on me here, as I have some probably pretty basic questions. I have been digging around the internet (mostly these forums) for the past two days since I got my new Mogul from Sprint running WM6. I had the PPC-6700 prior to this (as I expect most of you had) and I was fairly good at tinkering on that one, but I'm on new ground here with WM6 and a new phone.
First, I am a little confused by all the names.
For sure, I know that this phone can be called the Titan, the Mogul, or the PPC-6800. What I'm not sure of is that some people also call this the Hermes or the TyTn. I figured Titan and TyTn were the same things, but apparently not.
The main reason I'm asking is so that when I am looking for information and posts on this phone, which can I use and which should I disregard. It seems that many of the things posted under the Hermes forum are valid for the Mogul as well, but alas..I'm confused.
Once we get names settled, I'm going to start with only one other question that I have dire need for. I have looked around for answers and most are many months old, so I have to think that there are some more recent findings. My question regards Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 with a BT headset on this phone.
I have installed MS VC 1.6 and paired my new Cardo Scala 800 headset. It seems to work with the following problems:
1) BT quality is not great, including VC voice getting cut off. This is my first BT headset with this phone, and I have read that many people have poor BT quality with this phone. If that's the case, can anyone recommend a BT headset that works well with this phone (preferablly one that charges directly via mini-USB).
2) Confirmation don't work - based on what I have read this is a problem with all WM6 phones with VC 1.6. It appears the only solution is to disable confirmations completely. I have done this and it appears to be able to function. I just want to confirm that there isn't any newer data out there for this issue.
3) Last issue is that I don't get notifications. Meaning, when an incoming call comes in I get the ringing sound, but it doesn't tell me the name. In my searches I came across this posting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881&page=51
It is for the Hermes (again..confused) but contains a zip file with 4 files to copy over the default VC files. When I did this and reset my phone, notifications seem to work. I want to make sure that this is the best way to get VC 1.6 working as fully as possible on this phone.
I really appreciate any feedback you can give.... I have a few more questions, but I'll wait till we get these squared away.
Thanks to all!
Well, I've not been a Mogul owner for much longer than you, and certainly have been a PPC owner less (this is my first PPC), however let me try to answer a few of your questions.
First, the "Sprint Mogul" is Sprint's name for this phone. The phone "codename" of sorts is the Titan, and model is the PPC-6800. Hopefully I got that all right. Bottom line, they all refer to the same phone. Also, different cell companies have different names for phones, so it can get a little confusing sometimes.
Now the TyTN is the same device as the Hermes, aka the 8525. From what I've gathered in my short experience, this is basically the same same phone as the Titan, however, it's the AT&T GSM version. Where we have CDMA and EVDO, it has GSM and HSDPA.
The files get tricky too, and you have to know your way around the system before you try replacing files from other phones. A lot of files (and issues) are general for WM6. That means that any device running WM6 may have these same files, behaviors, or issues. However, with that said, certain files are specific to the network. Some of the things like dialers are coded for GSM on one phone, and CDMA on another. So if you think it might have anything to do with the network, double check before you replace it from another phone that's on a different network. In your case, the voice command thing is general to WM6, so grabbing the files from the Hermes was ok.
The bluetooth? Well, that's a question a lot of us still have. The bluetooth on these phones suck. I've heard a lot of people say it's HTC's fault, and I've also heard a few people say WM6 just isn't good with BT anyway. I personally haven't gotten into what's wrong with it much yet, so I can't tell you exactly the issues, but we can only hope for a firmware and/or software update in the future that will help these problems.
I know that if you look around, I've seen lists where people have listed which BT headsets seem to work well, and which don't. The only I have, and thus have tested, is a Jawbone, and I can report, as well as tell you from reading, it's one of the better BT headsets for this phone. It's a little expensive though, so it's not in everyone's price range. Unfortunately I can't help much past that since I've never used any other, but if you search you can probably find threads like I mentioned and just get feedback from other people.
Also, I've never played with Voice Command, so I can't answer any more specific questions on that subject. Hopefully I helped clear a few things up. As I said, I'm definitely still learning myself, but I've been taking in all kinds of information. I love this phone and don't see how I've survived without a PocketPC before.
Ajerman,
Thanks for your input. Ok that makes sense regarding the AT&T GSM version. I think most of what I will want to tweak will be related to WM6 and not carriers.
Unfortunately my Cardo 800 BT headset is my first headset too, and this is the first time I'm using it with the phone. So, I too don't have anything to gauge it against. I'm probably going to return the headset however as it was advertised as having a mini-usb charging jack, when infact it has a micro-usb. I saw the jawbone, looks nice, but again, I only want a headset that uses a mini-usb jack (too many adapters to carry around).
My next questions (hopefully someone can address), is unlocking the Extended ROM for customization. I did this on the PPC-6700 WM5 with an Extended rom unlocker tool and modified the config.txt in there to automatically install certain apps upon hard-reset.
I need to assist the mobile admins at my company with setting everyone's phone up with some additional settings en masse.
Is it safe to use the same procedures on WM6? I'm probably going to try it anyway but thought someone could point me to a good primer on upgrading my skills from WM5 to WM6.
Any more input is valued!
thanks

rSAP connectivity

Sadly enough I have noticed that the xperia X1 does not like my premium volkswagen carkit. As used in passat or audi or skoda superb, bmw, Mercedes, etc.
I have an RNS-510, but have also tried it with a RNS-310. Both having the premium carkit in it. Also called carkit III.
It uses rSAP to enable transfer of contacts and phone settings control.
I have tested with a nokia N95 and it works perfectly fine with that after you enable the remote sim access profile. Also known as SAP.
Sadly enough, the X1 refuses to connect. The carkit just says the phone is not compatible.
Anybody have any clue what to do?
Maybe a custom ROM which does have this functionality? Or a tool that can be added?
u r talking about remote sim access right?
my rom (cmex absolute touch) got an option to enable it under bluetooth setting (connections)
Yes or You use this little cab! Works perfectly with VW Golf VI PRemium Handsfreekit. I used the smaller file, but if it dont works try the bigger one!
In the bluetoothsettings you should find the sap profile after the installation, and in the programs a small utility to activate it. the Xperia himself has no SAP Profile!
wow!
I definately came to the right place! I will try this out tommorow first thing and let you know if it works!
Thnx's again. Also considering your rom now achmed20, because I believe this is quite basic functionality which should have been there in the first place!
As I said, I'll let you know if this worked!
not working yet
Well, that helped, a bit.
I get to the connection screen, have to enter the 16 digit pincode and after that the car just says connecting, and stays doing this for a minute or two and then just says failed or not compatible.
So I'm a lot further, but it isn't working yet! I'm thinking because of all the things I have tried, I might have broken it somewhere, but unsure how or what.
Thinking of maybe flashing it with a different (custom) rom, to see if that might fix the problem.
Anyone have any other advice?
no experience with the kind of trouble your having but if you want to try off on a fresh start, i would do a hard reset, then install the cab fix that was recommended.
still not working
I just installed the cmEX absolute TOUCH rom and did a hard reset after that.
Enabled rsap on the last tab of bluetooth and the car says its connecting and just does that for a long time (after entering pin code). Sadly enough, it just times out.
Anybody have any clue what could be the problem? I have the feeling we are allmost there, but there is just a little thing causing it to time out.
rsap even says it's connected to my skoda and everything.
From what I can gather, the cmEX absolute TOUCH rom is based on a touch HD.
more testing!
Okay, from what I have been able to gather, the following is going on.
The carkit is trying to log on in a frequency that it cannot handle.
I have been able to connect the carkit, download the address book and make calls with my Xperia now. No problems what so ever....except one. I was using a SIM from a collega whom has a different network!
I use t-mobile and my collegea has kpn/telfort. Doing more research, I have learned that kpn/telfort and vodaphone use the 1800 band frequency. And that t-mobile uses the 900 frequency.
I am not entirely certain at this point that this truly is the real problem, but, my phone works, my carkit and car works, so all the software bits are in sync, but only using a different sim. Rebooting the phone, changing nothing but the sim, makes it completely broken again!!
I'm using a RNS-510 with the Skoda/VW premium carkit. If anyone is able to shed some light on this and what possible fixes could be, I'd really like to hear!
I have been looking (and mailed) if a fiscon unit could potentionaly fix this problem. They also have units which intergrate with the system.
But I'd rather find a software solution, obviously. Sadly enough, manny cases can be found where people have problems, often, with no solution. This problems is *NOT* specefic to the Xperia, I do realize that now, since the new ROM, rSAP is working just fine.
more complex then ever....
Okay, things just more complex then ever before.
My x1 using a HTC touch HD rom base and rSAP from HTC (default in rom).
KPN sim = works and can call
Vodaphone sim = logs in but carkit crashes on trying to connect to cell towers. But car connection functions.
T-mobile sim = connection to carkit never gets finished.
I'm totally lost. Using a friends N95, all the sims work flawlessly.... which makes me even more clueless, because the carkit reads the sim data and then connects using it's own radio to the cell network.
Please, advice? How can this be fixed? Is there a different version of the HTC rSAP software available maybe?
The plot thickens again.
Using my sim card in my X1, not working. Original ROM, Original ROM + rSAP extensions, cooked rom from touch HD with native rSAP. Just non-functional.
Using the exact same phone, without the t-mobile sim but with the KPN sim, works perfectly, no problems what so ever.
Using an older Nokia E50, both sims work flawlessly, also my t-mobile sim.
This leads me to one conclusion and that is that the HTC rSAP implementation is seriously bugged.
Anyone have any idea on how to proceed? Somewhere I have read that the HTC's wouldn't handle 3G or UMTS sims and only use older ones. But, using the KPN sim I connect to 3G and it works. Also the nokia E50 of N95 can use any network and it just plain works. There for that statement is wrong in my opinion and it is caused by buggy software of HTC.
Anyone have a good idea on how to proceed? Lots of people having this problem and buying nokia's, but for no real reason other then buggy software it seems.
I really like my X1, and payed a lot of money for it, so I really need this to start working.... Please assist and help, also people with a diamond or other HTC, using the same software.
sadly enough, no progress
Did some tests again today, but sadly enough, no progress yet.
I'm going to try and get a hold of a Touch Diamond and a Touch HD and see how those preform with my sim. If my suspiciouns are correct, they will also fail, making this a combination of bad software with bugs with certain sim's.
That is the conclusion I am faced with right now... sadly enough, no idea how this can be remedied.
Are there developers whom might be able to write a reliable rsap implementation or will HTC ever come with a working version?
What do you guys think?
Sonyericsson will not provide SAP for the Xperia. Thats the point....
Been in contact with support
I have been in contact with Sony-Ericsson support and they tell me they cannot make the X1 compatible, because it is not just software.
Off course, to me this sound like total bull****, seeying I have allready had an raap connection with the X1. But this was either using HTC software add-on's or using a rom that was based on the htc touch HD.
Sadly enough, I cannot work without this functionality... and thus will be forced to sell my phone and buy... a nokia.... not bad, since I have had nokia's all my life. But I really really do not eNjoy beying forced to do so.
But everybody has known that the xperia has no SAP Profile... in every test, in every Datasheet you can see it! Why you buyed an xperia?
Wrong order
I orderd the x1 around the same time I orderd my new car (Skoda Superb II 2.0 TDI Ambition Business line ).
The car came with a carkit that can only do rSAP, but it is very very nicely intergrated with a external antenna, full adress book acces, etc. etc.
To my amazement, there was no rSAP on the phone, while all current high end models do carry support for it. Thus thought that a simple program or rom fix would provide it.... sadly enough, while some stuff works, it is very very flaky.
So it's a combination issue, off course I realize that. But I'd rather replace my phone and sell the x1, then having to change the carkit piece in my car (it is far more expensive). And still, I just cannot believe that such a basic function, is not in there.
Especially because it is made by HTC, which do carry this functionality!
So the problem was created by having both products in the same time frame. And my reluctance to believe such a high end phone would not carry this protocol.
From closer reading though. It seems that the x1 (with a custom rom) is not at fault here. If my speculations are right, any htc device with rsap from factory even has a big change that it is not going to function. Also reflected by my tests.
Using a HTC touch HD based rom on the X1, rsap is added and functions brilliantly using a KPN sim. Vodaphone works sometimes and crashes the carkit now and then and using a t-mobile sim, it does not work, at all. Since I have a t-mobile business account... it doesn't work at all for me.
I have not been able to get a hold of a Touch HD or Touch Pro to test if these problems also form on that phone, but will do so when I get the change.
So for now, even the HTC software seems to be bugged and thus I have formed my conclusion that my best option is to go back to nokia (which I have used for about 10 years now). The x1 is great, but not beying able to call in the car.... that just isn't going to work for me.
The new N97 looks pretty decent....
I have a jetta 06 tdi with mfd2(dvd version rev c) and skoda (kufatec) bluetooth modul installed by myself. I can do a Synchronisation of the Phonebook with Names and Numbers , dialed and missed calls , incomming calls with Names and i have a option to accept or decline a Call from the fis display , using my Multifunction Steering Wheel. Everything working perfect with my Xperia x1i.
Hmm
Most likely that module is a fiscon module or an older part of skoda. Am I correct?
The fiscon does not use rsap and older premium carkits from VW also did not. But their newest carkits included in the passat CC and skoda superb II are rsap only.

Im not sure we can post a direct link here to another website , but there is what im using in my Jetta : http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_....html/XTCsid/9f268df051bdc7806c7825cc426d606c
Old Version
Ah, yes. That is an orginal skoda part, but it is the older version from the Superb I and not the Superb II. That uses the other profiles and not rSAP.
touch HD behaves just the same
Hi everybody.
I had the chance to test both X1 (rSAP from cabs in post #3, thanks by the way) and HD (native rSAP implementation) on a VW touareg premium car kit and I must say they suffer from the same problems: most of the time the connection is established, but immediately drops and enters an endless loop of connection/disconnection, where everything can happen: car kit crashes, phone crashes, vodafone goes bankrupt, etc.
What hurts the most, though, is that very rarely and randomly, the connection with X1 is firmly established and everything, for unknown reasons, starts to work fine. This drives me crazy, for it would be a lot easier to cope if the feature wasn't available full stop.
Nonetheless, this makes me think a solution must exist somewhere, but I'm too much of a noob to find it...
Hope this helps, byebye.

Drag retarded Hero into 21st century

Bluetooth has been available on mobile phones for almost 10 years
My shiny new Hero which I consider to be an excellent piece of work is pretty useless in this department....file transfers hands free connection etc
If a phone that costs £30 from tescos can do this why cant the £400 quid hero?
Why is android incapable of this extremely basic functionality? Why are android phones on sale at all? the OS is not finished and will not be untill Bluetooth just works.
I have pissed off several friends by recomending this phone pre release assuming that the bluetooth profiles had been fixed on the hero. But if they cant send mates in the pub a photo of a friend falling over or use their hands free kits how can I blame them?
Is there a timescale for adding working bluetooth to android?
Ask Google. They're the ones that only programmed handsfree profiles in. Apparently it's supposed to be fairly soon.
Also, you know what they say about assuming.....
but yeah, it's a bit of a glaring omission. but then didn't the iphone do exactly the same when it first came out?

Don't just blame Google tho... Android is open source and the Hero's version is a seperate dev branch to the cupcake 1.5 thats on standard 'Google' phones. I mean they must have fiddled with it anyway as some things that worked on the standard 1.5 build don't work on the Hero.
So HTC are just as much to blame for this... what can we call it... oversight...

No they are not! The reason that this functionality is not available is because the Bluetooth APIs have not be finalized. Whilst potentially HTC could have added their own, this would have fragmented Android as an OS and this is definitely not the way forward.
Unfortunately, Apple showed that the market will accept reduced functionality in devices, when they shipped the original iPhone.
However, with respect to Google, I fully agree that nearly a year down the line since the G1 was launched, they should've got further than they have with Bluetooth support.

Dave

The Android OS will become fragmented, Android is designed that way it's supposed to be a base on which mobile phone manufactures can build upon. It's also the reason you get "with Google" phones, if you want a pure Android OS those are the phones you buy.
HTC should have seized the opportunity to fix some of the glaring ommisions from Android, epecially considering that there is no indication that any more bluetooth profiles are included in donut.

I say assume, but HTC posted bluetooth profiles on the android community as GAP SPP HSP HFP A2DP and AVRCP profile, so where are they?
I admiit I should have checked for OBEX, I was probably caught up in the hype, and the oooos and arghhs of the reviews, perhaps the reveiwers should have started with..... erm this phone does not work before we parted with our hard earned. Shame on you engadget

Just get BlueX and use one of the many methods to root the phone, then you'll have full send/receive bluetooth capabilities. It's very easy.
does bluex actually work on the hero? and is it one of the ones that seems to be hidden on some hero devices?
Didn't know that HTC had put those profiles out there...but if they're just in beta or being tested, then i am sure they'll be here soon.
and besides, the base android build on the hero is the same as on the magic, it's just had a few kernel changes for any hero specific hardware, it's still running 1.5.
i personally knew the device had no obex, and still got it. I suppose it's each to their own really. Millions of people got the iphone and were rabid about how wonderful it was even though it was missing some basic features. i bet hero will have the same kinda people, on both sides of the argument.
i like it and am happy, but am certainly not going to defend the missing features, i just rely on the fact that as i am happy with it as it is, anything extra is a bonus.....

Ok (Grits teeth)
Still love the phone would still buy it (friends probably wont till bluetooth fixed) would have liked a choice on the bluetooth though.
If the reviewers were paying more attention to the bluetooth deficiency I am sure google would be urgently fixing it!
Guess will have to wait. Please dont hesitate to let us all know when you find out they've fixed it

Yes it is - and the bluetooth APIs are part of that base!
Google were very specific about why they chose not to ship Android with broken APIs (see http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2008/08/some-information-on-apis-removed-in.html ). If HTC had "done their own thing" they too would have been committed to support this for years to come.
As a developer, personally I'd be happy to wait for a single fit-for-purpose API to come to Android, than support a wide variety of vendor-specific extensions.
If Android wants to gain serious traction in the Smartphone market, they need to look at Apple and the iPhone. Here you've a single software and hardware platform which is going to make application development far simpler.
It is ok to build on top of the Android platform (as you said yourself), but if each handset vendor goes about changing the underlying nuts and bolts differently this will adversely affect market acceptance of the platform.

Dave
so bluetooth does not work on shipped devices?
it works on the htcmagic hero rom but not on the dream hero rom. hack
i wonder why
bluetooth works, but only for headsets.
maybe the magic rom has bluex installed, as i know bluex works on the magic, but not on the hero

Hero supports a few more profiles than just headsets.
From the HTC website:
Q.
What Bluetooth profiles are supported?
The phone supports Bluetooth Headset, Handsfree, A2DP, and AVRCP profiles. You can connect your phone to a Bluetooth hands-free headset or a Bluetooth car kit and use those devices to listen to music and send and/or receive calls. Transferring files between your phone and PC using Bluetooth is not yet supported.

We won't see file transfer or OBEX until Google finalize the bluetooth APIs.

Agree about the file transfer (although its a smartphone so use flikr/twitter)
As for handsfree I am using just fine with my Parrot MKi9200 car kit. Full handsfree and A2DP Stereo support with controls. Full address book sync etc.
So apart from file transfer its got a full set of useful features.

How did you get the address book to sync, I thought this didn't work, and it doesn't seem to with my Alpine kit. Did you install bluex?
The Bluetooth kit in my Land Rover Discovery 3 can pull the contacts list off my Hero and also notify me of who is calling in the head unit.
Pretty sure its not been pulled off my Nokia N85 when I used that as there is no storage in the kit as far as I am aware.
Its also just to note - a Nokia kit sourced / OEM'd by Land Rover and is the standard Bluetooth PTI they factory build.

Hi,
I was a bit confused by this thread and all the bluetooth problems. At the moment I have a Touch Diamond but I am up for an upgrade in the next month so I am looking at either the Diamond 2 or the Hero. I have a Sony BTNX20 stereo BT headset that i use for everything, Will I still be able to use this headset for stereo music on the Hero? Also what video files can it play? Or is there something like Core Player available that will play everything? A bit off topic but i thought id ask since i had a bluetooth question!

Your BT headset should be fine, as for video play back... well it's poor. And as for Core player it won't be out for long time (if ever!).

Bluetooth A2DP issues w/ 2.1

So, I have searched all over these forums, and cannot find a difinitive answer or solution. I have problems with A2DP when connecting w/ the BT in my car, since installing a 2.1 ROM (currently DC 2.09.01). When connected, the music plays about twice as fast as it should, then slows down, then speeds up again. Conversley, Android 1.5 worked fine. There has been a lot of talk of BT issues, but it doesn't appear there are any solutions. Am I correct, or has someone found a solution? THanks.
ZenEXP works if you dont mind switching.
I have had those problems occasionally with all 2.1 ROMs I have tried. Usually, if I pause and then unpause it solves the problem. Sometimes I have to do it more than once.
I'm currently running ZenEXP and I've had the problem a few times, but it has been significantly less than with other ROMs. However, AVRCP hasn't been working with ZenEXP, whereas it has worked on other 2.1 ROMs, such as DC.
So, with the unrooted stock Sprint 2.1 software, A2DP works?
The Darchdroid ROM actually fixes this problem! I had the exact same problem as you with playing audio in my 2010 Mazda 3 and Darchstar's ROM fixed it for me, it's the only ROM I have found so far that fixes the bluetooth
I have a problem with my bluetooth headset when I'm playing music, the music stutters alot, I almost have to hold my phone a certain way with very little movement in order for it to play decently. Any solutions on that problem?

Turn off/disconnect headset while playing music fixes studdering for me in settings under bluetooth for the connected device. Disconnect the ' phone' while playing. Haven't really tested this on anything but my kenwood head unit.

here's a reply I received from HTC support:
Hello, I understand that you have had issues with your bluetooth since the update for your Hero. With the update, the entire bluetooth stack was updated, and thus some bluetooth devices that previously worked are unfortunately no longer compatible. While we have not heard any information about nor made announcements about any upcoming patches to address this, it is not at all out of the realm of possibility. Otherwise, you may want to try a different bluetooth headset. I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again. You can find additional support at support forums at community.htc.com. There is also a customer satisfaction survey for you to take if you are interested. Bluetooth Stack?
So is it possible for one of the developers on this site to rewrite the bluetooth stack or copy the old one from 1.5 that worked?
I have a Panasonic TH12 bluetooth home phone that worked fine before 2.1. I recently bought an AT&T bluetooth phone and it does the same thing. Will pair but not connect.

I have to call BS on this. (Not on the post, on the reply)
Why would any company not support legacy hardware as simple as Bluetooth. Especially since most devices aren't even Bluetooth v3/v4 standard yet. And Bluetooth 2.1 is 1. Not very old and 2. What 90% of Bluetooth device still manufactured are! and its been around since 2006!
I honestly can't believe a company is going to just say "Oh its to old" instead of fixing their crap. as far as I know v3/v4 is fully backwards compatible to 2.1 because they include "Classic Bluetooth" protocols!
Not to mention I doubt the hardware in our phone is even capable of v4 stuff. I'll have to do some more research on what BT chip is in the phone. Utter BS.
Either Phillip or HTC is a moron.
CDMA Hero Specs for BT:
Supported Profiles: HSP 1.1, HFP 1.5, A2DP, AVRC, (OPP, PBA)
version 2.0+EDR / possibly upgradeable to 2.1+EDR, plus OPP and PBA profiles
2.1 FULLY backwards compatible to v1. Meaning HTC built the crappiest BT Stack allowable by law to say it includes it. May as well have not bothered.
Someone could probably redo things with AOSP and a newer bluez stack.

Yeah, I just bought a BT USB adapter so I could exchange files and synch and stuff. I got it to work ONE time and all it did was pass 200 of my contacts to my phone from my PC. Like it was just waiting to upchuck on me. After that, nothing.
There's three hours of my life and $8.99 I'll never get back.
Bluetooth is pretty much the #1 complaint that users have been posting on the Sprint Community Forums (here's the HTC Hero section). Nearly all of those complaints say that Bluetooth now doesn't work at all or just plain sucks on the stock 2.1 Sprint/HTC release. Which probably also means that any ROM here based on 2.1 stock will also suck it up bad with Bluetooth compatibility. Known problem, no one has done anything about it yet. It sounds like AOSP ROMs don't have this issue, so at least that's good.
