Is it just me or is the battery life horrible, I can barely go half a day without it dieing?
I have gps off, the brightness down, and kill the task's in task manager all day.
I did update my radio but have not tried 2.0b2
My battery has been getting really warm with the 2.1 ROMs. I have switched back to a 1.5 one. Is that just me? So, yea, haven't had great battery life.
I have been using AOSP roms with no sense so switching to this battery has been alot worse. But when I think about it I do not believe it has been any worse then when I was using 1.5 with sense. Cant wait to get a fully functional 2.1 AOSP
I've been running Fresh 2.0b2 today, with 8hrs uptime and 1hr 30min awake time I have somewhere between 60% and 70% left. I did flash the radio.
definitely sucking the battery down. even after wiping, radio and flash. could have different results from phone to phone, I'm more of a heavy user.
really? i been getting realllllly good battery life. i was BT music for like an hr then i gps'ed for like 20 min and wifi connected to gmote for 2 whole movies. my battery is at 70% right now and its been unpluged all day....i love this rom

No real battery issues thus far. Make sure gps is off the settings are different in 2.1 I thought mine was off it wasn't. Also shut off flash until you need it. I use dolphin for browsing, no blue tooth, no gps and heavy useage with good battery results.
I came from a Pre which has horrendous battery life so perhaps my expectations are low but I go the entire day with heavy useage.

Honestly, my battery life has been better since i switched to Fresh 2.0b. It's really hard for me to gauge actual battery life because I spend most of my time at work where my phone roams constantly. BUT as far as my phone roaming and just regular use it seems that my battery life is way better.
Hard to say. I want to say the battery life is lower, but I also spent a lot more time playing with the phone and downloading/installing apps since 'upgrading' to 2.1.
That could be what you guys are seeing too. You're just using it more without realizing it.
My battery is actually pretty decent.. I have more widgets and programs running than I did on 1.1, but the battery is defiantly tolerable.
This is a BETA ROM and Flipz hasn't even had time to mess with the power management side of things, so just be thankful you have a 2.1 to mess around with, that is almost fully functional.
If you use the power control widget and turn off everything; wifi, BT, gps, AND especially SYNC, i get good battery life.
With sync disabled it doesnt pull gmail or weather but id rather have better battery life and sync gmail manually
13hrs up time,
2hr wake time
Unplugged for 5hrs (according to the Battery Use widget)
65% Battery

So far I've been getting worse battery life with the 2.1 ROM. I was previously using Fresh 1.1 and got like 36 hours with a single charge. With the Fresh 2.0 ROM I get maybe 16-18 hours. I'm thinking of switching back to Fresh 1.1 until the new ROM is tweaked as I'm sometimes more than 24 hrs without being able to charge at work and I need my phone while at work. Great ROM nevertheless.
Is it normal for my battery to only last 1 day before it needs a charge? I have everything turned off practically and yet I still have it dying after 1 day. According to Battery usage, the only things draining it are the Display and Cell Standby. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Ryphez
That's about the battery life I get. With light to moderate usage, it lasts about 15 hours before getting down to 20%
I'm in a fringe area and get most of a work day with moderate email, data, and constant music

Same here...11-13 hours is a pretty good stretch for me.
Biggest culprits for battery drain are display and automatic data syncing.
So if you want to extend your battery life lower the brightness on your display.
So for syncing you can either disable it completely so that your applications only refresh for new data when you use them or change the frequency that they check.
I'm getting about the same. Actually I was pretty happy considering all this thing does. Keep an eye out for the extended battery. It's gonna make it thicker but might be a good tradeoff for some of us.

My battery only lasted around 6 hours, so I'm getting a replacement.
I'm with you guys about the battery issue. I mean I know that Android is known to have bad battery life, but the X was heralded as supposedly having decent battery life.
Even with GPS and wifi turned OFF, and my display brightness turned all the way down to 0, I am still only getting about 10-12 hrs of usage. That's BS.
Overall I really like the phone, but the battery issue is getting on my nerves - as well as the damn wifi issue.
I doubt it's going to matter, but I can only hope that Froyo offers up better battery life (maybe more options to turn stuff off). I would love to be able to underclock the CPU or reduce the screen brightness even more.
I am coming from a blackberry that got two days on a charge. The phone sucked though. I get about 13-15 hours per charge on stock battery. I use tasker and y5 to set profiles that toggle wifi and gps so I'm never using extra battery but still able to use device to fullest. I also went on ebay and found two generic batteries with external charger for $13. Now when my stock battery dies, I just throw in a new one that freshly charged and charge up the stock one. Having three batteries to shuffle through means my phone is never plugged in, and never dead. Plus in not charging batteries as often so it should extend over all life of batteries.

How does the battery life compare to the original Droid(stock of course)? Do you guys think the Droid 2 will have similar battery life, or will Froyo and the smaller screen improve it?
I only get around 7 hours when im forum browsing 7 hrs straight

I've noticed the 50% bug on several x's including my own
If i don't use my phone a lot i get 10+ hours easy
But you gotta remember if you're using this phone all out and a lot then of course you're gonna use the battery up quicker.

Seems to be a bug with the gps. That is causing the battery drains. Even after you shut down the program using gps system won't go into a complete Sleep mode seems to be a big study going on over droidforum.net tested mine today with gps off except when in use battery lated 20 hours versus 10 with it on.
Not real technical myself and don't wanna post link to another forum.
Good luck fyi motorola is aware of bug and suppose to be a fix in 2.2

I use the widget "Extended Controls" and leave my WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc off unless I need them.
I had the SGS Captivate for three weeks and before that I had the G1 since it came out - the DroidX battery life is longer than both of them.
I'm really happy with the battery life so far.
Also, I read somewhere that it can take a few full drain/full charge cycles to get the most out of your battery. Both myself and my wife completely drained and then completely charged our batteries within the first two days.
I've had the DInc, eris, droid, and nexus one, i couldn't put into words how much better the battery is on my x. I mean its nothing like a dumbphone. But this thing packs as much punch as some older laptops so i don't expect a lot out of the battery. Check ur apps, sometimes u get ****ty" rogue" apps that screw it up, and if u use a task manager only kill intense apps like web or messages or gmail. The other processes are need to make the phone run correctly, i know i've seen better performance and battery life since i stopped using one.

I leave everything on wifi, gps, auto brightness, blue tooth, and im getting the best battery life of any phone i have ever owned, even better than my nexus one . My sister has a Droid X, and all she does is complain about her battery life. Although she is coming from a blackberry, i think that most people expect more from the battery than it can physically give, if you wonder about how long it lasts just take a look at the screen, and realize it takes alot of juice to run this huge beast .

I had never heard of this before so I did some research and my X was doubling the time on in Cell Standby and showing 50% used. I was getting 12 - 13 hours of battery life. I did the airplane mode cycle trick and now I'm getting 24+ hours of battery life. And now Cell Standby displays normally. Amazing.
A big thanks to xmunk as that was the only thing that was driving me nuts about the X and I was thinking about getting a replacement. Now the battery life is great!
I would recommend anyone having poor battery life check to see what Cell Standby is reporting.
Oh wow.... Im showing since unplugging my phone 3hr 54m ago I've used the following for power:
51% Display
38% Cell Standby
12% Phone Idle
I just cycled Airplane mode and will checkout what happens next.
That a ton of power being used for standby. My Nexus one used 1-2% per hour while not in use and on standby. Battery left is estimating my battery is at 76% right now with a system % of 80% showing.
I hope this gets looked into.

Well- since you guys have already done all the work -would you mind maybe sharing a few links?
-thanks if you can.
I have an EVO that is completetly stock latest SW-3.29.651.5 and kernel-2.6.32.15 and the battery life stock is looking real good. I have not done any battery saving techniques such as turn off wifi and background syncs. This is an average daily use for me...could easily get 2 full days with some battery saving. Personally I am considering just staying stock on this EVO. Side by Side comparisons with my other rooted one has going either way a good deal...
I agree. With this latest update and kernel, my battery life is about 1 day now, or 12 hours with a lot of usage, which is what a lot of evo users have been getting from the start.
I'm also running fresh 3.3 and the newest htc kernel, and have stopped using all task kills, startup killers, cpu adjusters, ect.
I seem to be getting about 4-8 hours of use out of the phone. I am not really concerned with standby time.
So during the week, I will easily get 20 hours of out it before it complains, weekends maybe longer as I am not using it as much.
That's really impressive! I have the same kernel and build number, but my battery life doesn't seem as good.
Just curious, are you on wifi most of the time? And do you keep GPS on and always-on mobile data?
How's the battery life when using talk time? I'm looking at picking an evo up but there are days I use a solid 2 hours a day talking.

My wifi stays on as does gps ect. The only thing I do when I do a fresh reset is first off turn off vibrate and any hepatic feedback. That is just a personal thing for me and is the only battery saving thing I do. I did however do a full battery charge thing...you know where you have it plugged in power on and full charge. Then unplug and turn off...re-plug and full charge/green light. This may or may not be why the battery life is so good but I am liking it for sure.
Howsit guys
I love WP7 on my HD2, but as you all know, its a battery hogger.
I have already purchased a 2600mah extended battery (Non HTC) on eBay, and awaiting delivery.
Is anyone else using an extended battery, that could maybe give us feedback on what it does in terms of battery life?
I hope to get atleast 2 days?
Currently im syncing google, outlook (To download hourly)
Some webbrowsing (Facebook, XDA offcourse)
And a few calls per day
Currently, my battery only lasts about 7 hours?
err, well i cant speak for everyone but my phone doesnt except the extended batteries, i mean it works but only to the size of a normal battery, it gets very confused if you charge it up passed that value on an externl charger.
as for your battery life, that seems excessive, mine lasts with heavy usage about a day and half. BT always on, wifi off, 3G and data on, xbox off, and the wee camera trick, plus several calls a day and a live account syncing every 30 min and a exchange account setup for push.

7 Hours? With about the same amount of usage with Web, 6 email accounts syncing every 15 minutes, 2 Calendar syncs, weather and stocks (hourly), calls, and texting, I get about 13 hours of usage. You should realize your battery drains faster when you're phone is searching for a signal...so if you're in an area where your signal isn't very strong, your battery will drain quickly esp. with all the data apps your run.
If you want to know about the extended battery you should check out the regular HD2 Windows Mobile forum. There were a lot of discussions about the extended battery way back when the batteries first appeared.
Sorry
you already paid for it so...i wish that it will work as you planed
but it didn't for me at least with WP7....
GOOD luck mate!!!
I tried an extended battery before I even tried WP7 and it is twice the size and twice the stated capacity but it lasted the same amount of time as the standard one...
btw, my stock DFT rom doesn't chew any more battery than wm6.5 did...

Yeah, it isnt charging it, if you use an external charger it only lasts the same amount of time as a standard battery but pop it out and resert it and it seems to use a bit more, in short the battery controler, not suprisingly as WP7 isnt ment for our phone, doesnt know what its doing, its a pitty but you get what you pay for and im happy with it, still think your eating too much juice tho, seems very odd

What ROM are you using?
The DFT ROM from this tutorial YouTube Video
ROM - 7.0.7004.4
Radio - 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10U
I haven't noticed any more battery usage compared to the OEM Telstra Aus ROM...
My phone's off the charger at 6am, 4-10 short calls, 20-30min of youtube, 30-60min web browsing, 6 email accounts updating every 15min, 30min gaming, 15min browsing the app store and trying random apps...
I get home at 4pm with 40-50% battery...
In my opinion that's OK battery usage...
Awesome!
I recieved my battery yesterday.
Charged it for 12 hours. And i must say, it works wonders on WP7. I had to reflash first, as it was a bit unstable. Once i did it, the phone started running fine.
I started using it at at this morning (08:30). And my battery is now sitting at about 75%. its 21:21. And i have used it quite a bit.
Hope this info helps others.....
SGS Vibrant flashed with Trigger 3.2 the battery lasts for 1 day with wifi usage and even if kept for overnight it drains about 18-20% of battery should i move to a different ROM ?
You could
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Trigger has had one of the best all time battery life for me a everytime.
I think you need to
A) recalibrate
B) re-check to see if any apps are using battery life.
C) flash a rom if none of that works.
Here we go again for the millionth time.....
But for me trigger had the best battery life.
I'm not on the gingerbread roms and it takes me from 100% to 5% in 8 hours overnight even WITH Juicedefender (seems to be about the same without it also).
If anyone has tips on THAT, I would much appreciate it. I've tried calibrating the battery.
There is a setting that you can turn your radios of from x time to x time overnight. I have mine set for 11-6. If I am on after 11, then I take priority. If not then the setting does.
There is also a setting that will open data/radio every 15m/30m/45m/1h/2h or something like that to get updates for somethings (i.e. Beautiful Widgets). I have mine set at 2h. If I want my data/radio open I will do it myself, hence my long interval.
Been using this app for well over a year so I know how to tweak it a bunch. If you have JD+ see my battery guide and it will tell you more about its tweakiness.
Trust me. This guy knows how to use JD, check out his battery guide. It will be worth your time.

i wish i could get my phone to last a whole day without charging, i just dont complain because i know for a FACT that the reason my phone only lasts 10-12 hours is because of ME. im too stubborn and refuse to switch to battery-friendly usage. the biggest thing that impacts battery is the user/user apps. not rom, not kernel, the battery difference from rom-to-rom and kernl-to-kernel is barely noticeable (unless in the rare case where there is a bug, or developmental defect). if there was ACTUALLY a rom in exsistence that TRULY had superior battery life, then you wouldnt get 5-10 different answers in every single "what is best rom/kernel for battery" thread.
the problem is, people want to believe that they can save battery without changing their usage habits. this simply is not possible. no rom or kernel will realistically do this for you. if you remove 1 brick from a bag full of 15 bricks, the bag will be lighter, but still very heavy. you need to download "spare parts" or "process monitor" from the market and start analyzing the way your apps are acting. also look into data syncs that are happening in the background. apps that stay open behind your back/what they are doing, (an app called "autostarts" can prevent apps from self-running under certain scenarios). animation speed. polling for notifications. gps. wifi scans. overclocking. cpu/ram usage. proper sleep. widgets. brightness. 2g/3g. data usage. call time. text volume. - THESE are the things that really affect your battery life.
bottom line is, if you truly want to save battery you are going to have to get your hands dirty...there simply isnt a one-click (or one-flash) solution.
Hmm so i'm now on MIUI and it seems to be giving better battery life, also have been thinking of getting the extended battery for Vibrant is it worth ?
If it sucks so bad, grab one of these. I have it and it has given me at least a 20% increase in battery life. BTW, you must listen to the instruction for the Battery if you get it. 4 or 5 full Drains to 0% and then charge to 100% while device is powered off and re-calibrate after each of these full charge cycles.
