Constant screen alignment problem - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

So since replacing my touch screen, I've noticed that the touch screen is having constant alignment problems. I read on another forum about a foam border going around the screen possibly causing problems and removed it and am still having problems.
When doing a test in the Notes function, it seems the more towards the center of the screen the stylus is, the more accurate it is. But when i start getting towards the corners, it either stops or freaks out.
Any ideas? Thanks!!

XDA Mini (Wizard Screen Issue)

My XDA Mini has a screen issue.
Only part for the screen (the middle) has stopped responding to the touch pad.
How do I fix this, has anyone else had it?
Cheers
Max
My Wizard (O2 XDA Mini S) has just developed this problem. The touch screen does not respond to touches around the middle of the screen. The outside edges of the screen work fine however.
I've had it for about 4 years now though, so I suppose its lasted well really. It's a G4 and I installed a WM6.1 ROM on it about 6 months ago (which is awesome btw, makes the phone sooo much better / faster!) but I don't think this is related to the problem.
Any known fix for this? I think it's a hardware issue since I also have the problem where upon opening/closing the keyboard, the screen goes white with multicoloured vertical lines and the phone emits a high pitched noise (have to put phone into standby then wake it up again to resolve). This, whilst annoying, I can live with, but not now the middle of the screen no longer responds to touches
I read somewhere its to do with the ribbon cable that connects the screen and main board, its gets trapped or worn over time as the keyboard is slid in and out. So I guess the touch problem is a more severe symptom of this? Can it be fixed?
Also a point of interest is that I keep the phone in the case a lot of the time. Could the magnets have possibly affected the screen? Anyone else with this problem keep the phone in its case a lot?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie

Keypad + screen issues (after reassembling)

I took apart my tytn, including the screen part.
After reassembling it, I've had random issues related to the keypad and screen.
By keypad, I mean all the keys on the screen part of the phone (D-pad, call/hangup,soft left/right, Internet Explorer & Email).
They will randomly cease working and randomly restart working (usually after turn on/off the screen with the power button)
The screen will also randomly turn white and come back on only if I turn off the screen and then back on.
Im thinking it has to do with a loose connection somewhere in the screen section of the phone, however, Ive taken it apart 2 more times to check everything out and the problem persists.
I wonder if anyone experienced the same thing and found which specific internal is the issue.
i would like to know too cause my buttons just stopped working. so the talk, end, message, Internet explorer, ect. but the left down up right and center button work.
I have the exact same issue.
All the keys (not keybord keys) randomly stops working. I am so used to it now, that I dont even try to answer the phone with the green key button.
The screen fades to white, sometimes (maybe 1-3 times a day).
The screen is white when awakening from "sleep mode", turning on and off the screen fixes that after a while (50% of the time white screen when from sleep mode).
I have found out that putting a finger nail between the keyboard and the screen, on the right hand side, when in closed position, and then putting the screen back on, gives me a 99% chance of funktional display.
The problem also accurs in the "full keyboard position", But putting the finger nail in the same spot helps.
So I think the problem of the connection is in the keyboard part of the phone, since those slide contact always are on the right hand side, and the display contact shift side.
I would lite to know if any body have a permanent solution for this.
(I have now opend my phone yet, and I have tryed the putting thin plastic between the display and the cover, with minimal success)
thanks for your time

These are the exact symptoms of the "SCREEN FADING INTO WHITE" problem. See this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303872
The common causes for this are a bad connection to the D-PAD controller PCB (in the technical manual they mention it should be carefully checked and the really small screews with same torque making a 90 degree with the PCB), a bad controller (that was my case, had to order a new one) or not enough pressure on the square black chip on controller (some people seem to have fixed it by putting a plastic sheet in between the chip and the case, to apply constant pressure).
I suggest you try to re-open your phone and reconnect the D-PAD PCB as carefully as you can, double checking the connection and the screws there.
I did fix my problem, by ordering a new PCB and replacing the old (probably bad) one. It started to happen after I dropped my phone and it's the only thing that worked. Now my phone is as good as new.
Hope this helps!
Similar Issues with screen
I have similar issues;
Anything thats on the foreground gets closed by the 'x' button and if I slide it open the start button gets continually pressed!
Seems to be the top right corner of my TS thats at fault
sometimes it's fine....most of the time its not!

I have the same! I have a huge dead spot in the middle of my (Tytn) screen, and if you tap there it actually activates the "ok" in the top right corner. The rest of the screen works ok. Whilst drawing in notes any drawing near the center dead spot results in a streak to the top right hand corner...
Bad screen?
Bad rom?
Bad motherboard?

You can rule out the ROM and M/board in my view for this specific problem. Your issue is very similar (and I think has the same cause) as those who find programs close randomly when in portrait mode and when they open the keyboard the start menu often pops up untapped.
I think this is just a case of a bit of pressure being put on the screen top right corner. Some folks have tried the business card run around under the bezel fix and had some success others have had to return for replacement/repair.
Some have taken the device apart and removed the gasket around the screen under the bezel, but this is not guaranteed to work.
Others have replaced the screen and for this particular problem it is very rarely successful as the screen is not normally damaged.
If you have a warranty use it - all of the above "fixes" are warranty voiding.

Hi Mike
It's an interesting problem as when performing a click and drag in Notes (drawing mode) the center section of the screen seems to work normally - a square box can select an area right through the middle of the screen - suggesting that the screen (as you say) is OK. So what is causing the a tap in the middle of the screen to register in the top right hand corner, when we now know that the center of the screen can work and respond in the correct manner. The size of the affected area is about the size of a thumb print EXACTLY in the middle. Personally I would like to believe that performing screen alignment 4 - 5 times a day for the past year has worn out the center dot and that is affecting the surrounding area. The trouble is that this fault has been reported on this site a few times now, and everyone says it's caused by something else! What did I do immediately before this happen I hear you ask? I flashed a new radio rom and was fiddling with a piece of card I have wedged down the RHS side of the screen to try and help stabilise the screen alignment. Since this problem arouse, I have removed the gasket - but that hasn't fixed it. I'm going to try and boot up the phone out of the casing to see what "zero" pressure applied to the screen does.
I'll report back...

It will be interesting to see what results you get. You'll need the old rubber band technique to hold the battery in place while you do it!

Well it's not due to the case squishing the sides of the screen as I just dismantled my hermes, wired it all up in bits on my desk, powered it up and still the screen has a dead spot in the middle and phantom taps in the top right. Temperature is normal room temp, approx 22deg c today.
I'm not sure the exact mechanisms of how these touch screens work out where you are tapping (resistance, voltage), but it looks like there are 3 separate strips running around the screen. 1 goes straight across the bottom, two goes up the LHS and across the top and 3 goes up the RHS. Therefore there is a gap between strips 2 and 3 in the top RH corner. Coincidence? hmmm It seems to me for it to register a tap in the top RH corner, strips 2 and 3 would register low voltages (or high resistance) and bottom wouldn't register at all. Thus suggesting a fault with the PSU that powers the touchscreen. Taps near the edges work because they are near the edges and therefore the resistance is not too great and can be detected, taps in the middle and worse off because they are far from all the detecting edge strips.
Does anyone think that there might a registry tweak for boasting power to the touchscreen?
Hermes Whie Screen Problem
To fix the "white screen" problem, you have to take your unit apart, and reconnect the ribbon cable.
I have a new 8525 and it started happeneing to me, so I took it apart this week, and reseated the ribbon connector.
Fixed the problem.
Has anyone here read and understood all that is said here:

Perhaps someone could compare the touch.dll in Black Majik to WM5 - should be the same right?
How come that HKLM/hardware/devicemap/touch doesn't show the touch.dll driver as drivername? Keyboard has it's driver...microsoft says it should say drivername = touch.dll
Do you all have that in your registry?

Touch screen not responsive sometimes

Sometimes the touch screen is not responsive. I need to press screen at various places to get it work again.
Any idea why this is happening?
Due to ROM bug or Hardware issue?
It may sound funny but my TD2 is the same and after few checks I found a way to fix it..... You must look at your display in an angle and you can see that in the center is a spot which is darker than the other display, after this you must suck a little right above the spot and everything is back to normal....
use a duct tape to suck it
this might be caused by extra pressure was placed on the screen. I found out about this when I accidentally slept on my phone for a whole night

[Q] Touch Screen Problems

Is anyone else having problems with their touch screen?
It will occasionally become unresponsive, and other times will just start 'clicking' repeatedly in random spots.
I find myself having to turn the power off and on (via the button, not a hard power cycle) to fix the issue. Its starting to get annoying.
Anyone else?
Yes, I am getting the same thing but I've found that if I just turn the screen off and then back on it fixes the problem. I don't need to reboot.
You think this would warrant an exchange? or is it just how its going to be?
I've put several hours on mine, but haven't experienced this issue. I don't know, if this happened to me more than once, I probably would exchange it.
It was happening to me all the time. I had to get a screen protector and haven't happened since.

Very good "solution" to what should be an obvious problem. The Nook Color has a *capacitive* touch-screen. If you get "junk/gunk" on the screen, it's gonna cause you issues. I find this to be the case while holding my NC and playing Flight Director for a while. The issue: My hands become sweaty and as a result of the slight film of sweat/oil on the screen, the NC's ability to measure the capacitive changes on the screen (and react appropriately to them) is compromised.
Keep your screen clean and you won't have this issue.
Note: after you wipe the screen down (damp cloth, etc), you will need to click the power button and go the lock screen and then back into the NC before it works right directly after cleaning the screen. The dampness of the cleaning cloth throws up the calibration enough to cause very strange things. My experience with "correcting" this issue tells me that in some way, the NC is recalibrating itself when you go to the lock screen.
johnopsec, this has been my experience as well. After cleaning the screen from finger-jam i don't get the phantom clicks. I also noticed that because I live in a very humid climate (Florida panhandle) there will be a thin moisture layer buildup sometimes and it really helps to wipe this off. I also have an incredible that does not have this problem but it has a screen protector which, I am guessing (and as gigadigit expressed), fixes the problem. Just make sure the screen is clean and dry before applying!
screen response
Also,
If you are holding the side of the case by the screen this throws off the touchscreen, I was having the issue where it would be clicking and multiple letter inputs when typing.
Also when it is laying flat and you have the power cord plugged in you may get multi letter inputs.
The trick, hold it by the back not the sides.
and if you have it plugged in and need to type don't leave it laying flat.
I have experienced this problem and loosely seen it correlated with moist fingers.
no moist fingers here and on my 2nd nc. this ones starting to have the ghost touches too.
My Nook Color started acting up after paying levels 3-4 to 3-6 of Angry Birds. I'm not sure if Angry Birds caused the issue or not as I haven't gotten it to do it in another app. I'm running 1.4.2. Doing a lock and unlock fixes the problem until it returns.
I managed to get Phone Tester to run after it got into this state. I made a video of it using a crappy webcam. There's a stuck finger in the corner.

Touch Screen issues while unit is plugged in..
It seems I have read on some forums that some people have screen issues.
Personally I didn't experience this until I tried to use my NC while plugged into it's wall charger.. It seems to act as if it has a grounding issue, which is not the case when the unit is unplugged.
So when you are running your multitouch or touch tests, do it without the unit plugged in..

I have had the same problem with my touch screen. I have the nexus live wallpaper and whenever you touch the screen it sends off the animation. Well sometimes it just goes non stop and sometimes opens up the window where you can apply a widget. I guess the most practical solution would be a screen protector but if not ill restore it and send it off to B&N
There's a small little app in the market named "Nook Screen Recalibrate" this app is super simple and easy to use. I hope this helps
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.assid.android.nookrecalibrate&feature=search_result
Here is the issue I have...
Right is the N button side. Just a reference point for this.
Reboot the Nook (I use CM7).
Bring up the keyboard
Touch Q in the center - you get W.
Touch Q on the right - you get W
Touch Q on the left - might get Q but you usually get W.
Recalibrate using the Nook Screen Calibration (above).
Q now gives Q unless you press on the right side of the key. I also notice I still have to hit the back arrow more to the left or I bring up the keyboard.
I've learned to live with it, but the left side of the touchscreen is slightly off and you have to touch to the left side of any object on the last 1".

yeah, for me it's the edge of the screen along the right side. it's less sensitive then the rest of the screen. I found that calibrating 2-3 times really works best.
There's also a fix in the nookwiki, but i can't get my adb to work on my laptop, I think its the drivers.

What is the left and right side?
I should have said that left is the side opposite the N button.
I downloaded Multi-Touch Screen from the market and I can see part of the problem is the angle of my finger. Straight on it's better.
Nook Color Touch Screen Problem
Having similar problem as described, after two years. Extended warranty expired ... two weeks ago (of course).
Tried cleaning screen, no help. Have not tried screen saver yet, but will.
In the meantime, I notice the comments about touching the sides, and I noted that as well.
Is it possible that this could be helped by opening it up and re-seating the case? Has anybody tried this?

Ghost screen touches

Just got myself a transformer today and it seemed great, however right after about 5 minutes the thing goes nuts like someone is swiping or touching the screen. Mostly just one spot on the left side and it will do it whether I'm holding it or it's sitting by itself. Can't seem to find anything posted about this wondering if thats because it's not common or I'm just not looking for the right stuff? Any help would be great, will likely return it tomorrow anyhow but if there's a fix would be nice.
Yeah, I got this as well while playing Angry Birds (F'd up my scores ! ). I don't know if it will work for you, but I just cleaned the screen really well with a cotton ball and alcohol, dried it, then used a microfiber cloth to clean it up (the ones that come with glasses, screen protectors). It worked for me, i think there was some gunk on the screen and was registering as a touch..
Try a factory reset and if it doesn't work take it back for a new one.
Thanks I can't see it being something on screen but will give it a wipe done here in a minute. Also tried the factory reset seemed to help but still getting in same frequency just not as badly. will see if the cleaning doesn't work I'll take it back and replace it.
This is the biggest annoyance that I have as of recent.
I have particularly oily fingerprints which causes smudges constantly.
I love the sensitivity of the TF, but if there is excessive smudging, the residue will register as a screen input - Wish the sensitivity could be adjusted.
Weird things happen when I need to clean the screen... I.E. I will be using a browser and use a single touch to scroll down, but it will zoom in/out instead; the long press menu will show up in a random spot persistently; -or- the screen will be completely unresponsive.
When this happens - I turn of the screen, clean it, turn the screen back on, and I'm good to go (note: sometimes I cannot even see any smudges where I am having issues).
This happens to me FREQUENTLY when i use the tab outside during humid days. I am thinking a screen protector may help, but still havent gotten one to try it out.
I had this same problem before the touch screen completely stopped responding on me.
For mine it only happened after waking it up from sleep mode though. When I turned Timeout to Never the ghost touching stopped.
Well tried as suggested the cleaning of the screen and all that but it still did it so took it back to the store got lucky and they still had one left, and exchanged it. New one hasn't had any issues at all. Thanks all.
I just took mine out of the box for fun (it was packed up for rma) and when i turned it on the touch screen worked. The ghost touching stopped to. But i still have a strip from top to bottom on the right side of the screen that registers two touches . So ill probably still send it in for a replacement.
