I have a problem with the screen on my wizard...
When I close the screen, the characters appear with wriggly lines in them, as if they are breaking. If I slide the screen open, even just a little, the characters are stable.
Any ideas?
It seems more like a Hardware fault the software, but no harm confirming. The 'Digitizer' of the Lcd is faking out or connection problem of the connectors, did you disassemble the device recently or something for repairs,or did it fell on the ground and got damaged.
Which OS version Rom your are using,if you have upgraded to any custom Rom,may be,I don't think so,but might be there's a chance, reflash the Rom again and check if it helps.
cheers
I flashed the rom & reinstalled the OS, but still the same problem. So it looks like a hardware problem.
Probably some connector cable or something.
Are these difficult to open, or should I take it somewere to get it fixed?
Well, if it's still under warranty, then I'll suggest you contact the vendor from whome you got it and let them fix it,otherwise,if you got any experience and knowledge of disassembling and repairing it,then download the service manual from the vendors website or from the xda-forum wiki and try out.Otherwise consult a repair shop.
Cheers
Well, I got a manual for the wizard, openned it up, tightenned all the connectors & cables, and now it works like a charm!!
Thanks for the replies.

Hi Guys!
My TyTn is acting strangely. In use, the display is first pixelating, getting lines (noise pixels as well), and then fading to completely white. When so it doesn't responde to anything anymore. So a soft reset is needed.....
Also the ringtone when called, is 'out of tune', like a old record player when you push your finger on the record.. LOL
Before I send it back to have it fixed by HTC, do you guys have any idea whats wrong, and maybe even a tip to help me fix this myself?
Tried numerous soft resets, hard reset, and a reinstall of the original WM6 rom (in Dutch).
Did not install any new programs lately, or did change anything on the unit...
Don't want to miss my TyTn... so hate to send it away... as many of you I am hooked badly to my beloved digital companion

It acts like hardware incompatible.
How about flashing with WM6 English version.
I don't think it is software problem.
I agree, not likely to be software. It did not get dropped or take a knock did it?
The two issues of pixelation/white screen may, if you are lucky, just be a connector thats loose. The sound I think is unrelated but again sounds like a poor connection at the white rear speaker connector block - not uncommon.
Both of the above could be caused by a sharp knock. There have also been cases of poor battery connections causing problems.
If you have a warranty use it. If not you can follow the dismantling guides or service manual to dismantle - check connections and re-assemble. Be prepared though, that sending it in might still be required!!
Mike
Will send it in
Hi Guys, Thanks fr your replies.
I will take the unit back to the store today.
I am not aware that I bumped it, or neither it has dropped. May be a connection that was allready quite loose to begin with. Lets see what HTC and the store will tell me
Strange thing is, that without my sim in it, and not using it, it stays normal... Have put it aside, and used a very old phone instead, and it is still normal..

Mmmm... that's important information and changes things a bit. Could be a sim card contact or something about the sim. Anyway it tends to suggest that other thoughts about hardware issues may not be correct!
Hope you find the answer at the store.

Hi,
I have a friend with a wizard that also have the problematic alignment of the screen lost.
I am considering to order this kind of replace from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.es/LCD-Touch-Screen...ryZ41343QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
is this the correct hardware device?
thanks for the help
Rui
I guess its right, i never tried or bought it from eBay but by the pic and description it looks all right but dont go on my advice wait for other to post too.
I would suggest that you dismantle your wizard first and check the ribbon cable on your phone matches yours
I have replaced the digitizer on my old wizard before and found that there was 2 different digitizers, each had a slightly different ribbon cable. The first didnt work at all but the second worked perfectly. Also i noticed that on both digitizers the strips on the cables didnt align properly with the board, however it was still possible to solder.
Make sure you have a soldering iron with a very fine point, its very figity to replace.

Thanks.
yes I will do it first. My problem was to understand if this is the hardware component that makes the lost of align issue.
Nowadays we have to open the keyboard to recover the align values.
Thanks to all
Thats a very weird problem, it may be software related, a bug in the OS maybe?
If that is the case then backing up your phone then flashing with a rom of your choice may fix the problem (i would try that first before replacing hardware)
Personaly i would suggest the brightphone rom its clean and very fast, however you have to identify wether your phone is a g3 or a g4 and get the right rom. all in the upgrading guides

Make a search and you will find lots of posts with this problem.
It was present sincd the wm5, wm6, wm6.1, etc.
So, it's really hardware.... unhappily

Well Im really upset... It takes me almost a month to get a replacement LCD screen for my Wing and I am proud to say i took it apart and put it make together making sure all is right.. (ribbons..screws..yellow tape...) and guess what it powers on, reads the sim, get a signal, phone works..BUT NO KEYBOARD.
Actually The only letter that do work are the e,f,h,n,o and if i hit the caps lock i get them to go caps but i get no indicator light to turn on. Same thing for the ALT indicator light. What in the world could have gone wrong? i was so careful taking it apart and putting it together for this to happen? I even did a hard reset thinking this might solve my problems? nothing its all the same.
any ideas?
you probably messed up a ribbon or something, its pretty easy to do it. I've heard stories of people messing up their keyboards when they replace the screens, so it's not really a common issue.
If you're still under warranty, slap on the original rom, un-hardspl, and call tmobile and tell them it just stopped working.
if not under warranty, do the same thing, and then raise plenty of hell when they tell you that your warranty is over (hint- ask for their supervisor)
Im going to try to take it apart again. maybe i missed something on the rebuild. it sad to think that after i was so carefull i screwed up the ribbon cable. if that fail ill try tmobile..
I'm experiencing the same thing. Were you able to resolve the issue by re-seating any of the cabling, or doing a hard reset? I don't have warranty on it so I may just have to replace the cabling if my futile attempts of fixing what I have now finally sinks in.
Still not working
junior120872
I took it apart one more time and with a magnifying glass reseated the ribbon. Looking at the ribbon closely there is nothing wrong with it. I looked everything over. still no keyboard. i hate giving up but at this point i have nothing i can do over to get this to work..
Ill probably sell it for parts now.
I have a problem with my keyboard I have an azerty keyboard but now I use an english rom (and the phisical keyboard is on qwerty). How Can I remove my azerty keyboard to my pda ?
Thx..
you can always use the herald service manual to disassemble the device, remove the keyboard, and replace it with one salvaged from a broken herald or something, but you run the risk of running into the problem detailed here.
What you can also do is use Duprade's keyboard fix and create a custom patch for yourself and just learn to use Azerty. This is alot easier than the above process.
So my Titan has been on the fritz for some time. It started with the front keypad " up " button becoming hard to register. My screen, upon startup goes white, phone is responsive however. So the rom does boot up. this problem was sporadic, until one day powering on an off did not fix the problem. Before the screen stayed white, I lost the ability to open the keypad without the phone's screen freezing. I could slide the keypad maybe a quarter of an inch open, any further an it froze. So, my question is, What could be causing this problem, an, what could be a possible fix? I have already loaded up a rom on it hoping this would remedy the problem, no joy. It is a sprint titan, flashed to cricket, currently loaded is dcd 3.3.4 with a hardspl I believe. Open to any an all fix's. I will try an post back. Would like to get it fixed so I can sell it.thank you all for your time.
Time for a new phone sounds like a hardware failure when roms don't fix the problem
It sounds like it is your ribbon cable... you can get them online, and they aren;t overly expensive if yo ucan replace it yourself...
ok, the ribbon cable. I'm somewhat handy with things. does anyone know of a guide for opening up this phone?
there are a couple of good ones on youtube
but you will need a small torx and small philips screw drivers. Like ones that work on glasses
Hey Volks,
Today i realized strange display issues with my HTC Touch HD. The ROM on it was original by the Provider (Telekom Germany) so i doubt it is a Flashing issue. I attached a screenshot for reference. Now my question: Seems this to be a hardware or software issue? Is flashing something that could solve this issue? If it is a hardware issue, would it be a good idea to repair it by myself? (i'm not complete stupid ) - What needs to be replaced? It seems that the touchscreen himself is working (pixels changing when pressing on the display).
Greetz,
Matthias
hi dude,
this seems to look like a hardware issue.
but..
i would flash a new rom or hard reset to check if it is software issue.
if the problem still exists after a reflash or hard reset, i would open your device and have a look for the problem yourself (its not rocket science )
you want to check the ribbons that connect the LCD to the motherboard.
(ribbons are clamped to motherboard so make sue you unclip the clamps that hold the ribbon in place, now check them for damage, dust or dirt)
be carefull though because the ribbons can break easily, trust me
after cleaning the ribbons, checking for damage etc, if device is still displaying like pic, i would buy a new LCD.
(ebay is the best place to go for a new LCD, it is best to buy an original LCD btw)
