Is it possible to set up an anniversary in Calendar or Outlook that occurs every year but doesn't have a start date? The problem is that they always attach an age to it so in year 2 it is classed as 1 year old. I have some anniversary's which I either don't know the start year or some I don't want to show as an age.
Any help would be great.
I'm sure I'm missing something easy!
maybe that

It's easy, just set a yearly recurrent appointment somewhere late in the morning so it does not disturb your sleeping..., and name it "My friend xxx aniversary".
You will see no age or anything else. You can mark this "whole day" so it will appear similar to aniversaries and the like.
Hope it helps.

I don't understand sorry.....bear with me. As far as I can make out, as soon as you make an event on calendar recurring, it needs to have a starting date. So in a years time (if it is an all day event) then it has an age next to it. So after 1 year it is 1 and so on.
But I want to have a recurring event without an age next to it! If you can do that then please explain in more detail.
Thanks
I don't see the "age" you mention. It might be that we use different Outlook versions.
Would you mind to post an snapshot of your calendar?

When I work out how to take a screen shot of my Trinity I'll get that to you.
Just to mention the 'age' only shows up on the Trinity, not in outlook. So it is a problem with the calendar on the Trinity not in Outlook.
I hope that makes sense.

I see now what you mean.
Try to UNCHECK the "whole day item" option in your agenda, mark a duration in hours (or minutes or whatever fits your needs) and confirm if it works. In my Trinity it does NOT display the "age".
Hope it helps.

I have some WM5 Calender problems on my Trinity.
When I view my calender on Month view, my "all day events" do NOT show as small square boxes.
However, if the "all day event" was created with the Trinity then it shows fine and syncs with Outlook 2003 fine.
But, if the "all day event" was created with Outlook 2003 and synced with ActiveSync 4.2 then it doesn't show.
Although my "all day events" DO show when in Day view on trinity.
Is this a known issue or am I missing something?
Thanks
As far as I haved worked out, if the all day event is set as "free" then it will not show as a box in the month view. If its set to anything else, "busy", "out of office", "tentative", it will show up in month view.
Hope this helps.
People's birthdays don't show up in Calendar. Is that normal? I could have sworn they used to show up on my HTC Wizard.
Did you set options to sync all events or only for a certain period?

I kinda forgot where you set that.
Speaking of which, is there a registry hack for making Month view the default view for Calendar?
Thanks.
Changing the events to anything BUT "free" worked.
I read that Outlook defaults All Day Events to "free" and Appointments to busy. So I had to change all birthdays, etc.
I also would love to default to Month view on PPC...
IT WORKED!!!!

THANKS!!! I was able to fix the problem in minutes thanks to you!!! Is there a way to set ALL appointments as busy?
I hope someone can answer this for me.
How do you put an anniversary in your calendar without putting a start date? Is it possible?
I have an anniversary which shows up with a line through the little arrows which stand for a recurring item.
This item doesn't show a year (number in brackets) after it on my PDA.
I have no idea how I have done this, but would want to replicate it because this would be useful for some anniversary's where I don't know the start year.
I'd like to know if is posible..
i have been trying that too.
If you insert the birthday or anniversary date in the Contacts' details, then it will show up in the calendar with the number in brackets.
Check this, but I think you have to sync the PDA with Outlook on the PC for it to do this, as I don't think the anniversaries or birthdays show up if you just alter the Contact details on the PDA - but try it.
What about for having St Patrick's day showing on your PPC. There is no start year, it is the same day every year so I don't want to have to manually put it in every year!
Any ideas for that?
Just put it in as a recuring item! There is no need to have a start year or even a year count in brackets for this type of reminder
BTW, forget St Pats day and don't forget to add April 23rd

Sorry I don't get this. If I put it in as a recurring item on an anual basis, as an all day event, then next year it automatically has a 1 in brackets after it. I don't see a way of putting it as a recurring item and not getting the year count! If it is weekly or monthly then it doesn't have it, but yearly does?
Please explain further if I am being a bit daft!
Should I put it as a timed entry?
For holidays for a specific country, in Outlook at the desktop go to options calendar options - add holidays, and choose your country. Then sync your PDA and you'll have national holidays.
For anniversary, use the contacts. That way you'll have them on calendar every year. Even if you don't know the year make a guess.
Hi all, I have added friends birthdays as appointments in my calender. They appear in the day view or week view, but not in the month or year view. You have no idea when there is any apopitnments. Is there a way to have say for example the day in bold or a different colour in month and year view?
Also I can not find any place where i can see all my appointmnts? So if i have to look up somoens birthday.. i cant?? If i have to remember what week they are in then go to that week, whats the point. Surely there is a way to see all your appoinments somewhere?
Also what i noticed, is if you complete the birthday field in the contact, thats no use, a it doesnt appear in your calender.. which is strange.. whats the point of having a birthday field, if it doesnt show in the calender?
I have looked at Thembcalc, and although it shows you have something in the month view, you still dont know what. So if I wanted to find out when "Jim's Birthday" is.. i'd have to scroll week by week until I find it. Its not just for birthdays, but any event.. For example you book a concert in advance.. say 3 months in advance.. then you forgot when it is, so you have to find it.. Is there a list or something that you can view all events/appointmenst etc.. sortable by name/date.etc ?
Thanks in advance
Strange, I always get a triangle which indicates there is something at that date in month view, it won't say what it is untill you click on it, but atleast it would show whats on for that month anyway. All day events(like birthdays) is represented as a green square.

if you set the contacts birthday field from outlook (PC), it automatically add it to an appointment...if you do it from PDA it doesn't......very strange....and useless of course to have to set birthday always from PC.....
I have tried adding the birhtday in contacts on the pda, and it hasnt gone into the calender, hence why i added tem as appointments. I dont want to sync it to my home or office pc, as i'd prefer the phone to my my primary organiser. My office has all work related stuff (heaps of stuff), and my home pc is used but my other hals etc, so again has more stuff then just what i need. Oh wells.. i can live with this issue..
however how can i get the list of all the appointments in the calender.. and be able to sort/and search for different fields.. ?
Is there anyway to enable the way when I typed in any Contact's Birthdate and it will automatically show in Calendar which i don't need to add it for the 2nd time in Calendar???
You don't have to add the birthday again manually.
It will automatically become an ALL DAY EVENT for that day itself.

Try to tap on the day of your friend's birthday and you should be able to see it as an ALL DAY EVENT.

Bye
If you are will to spend 15 EUR, go for Thumbcal, it automatically includes birthdays as events in your calendar. If you don't wanna spend that sum, search for a tool named Darkanniv on Modaco or Google.
http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/download-ct-birthday-v0-9.html
I requested something similar as well. I would also like my phone to have an actual notification sound on bdays. I will try that CT bday exe
update: ct birfday doesnt install on wm6.5 i guess. Installation of cab always unsuccessful. maybe i should reboot both my systems.
is there any way to show up the contact's birthdate without adding any 3rd party app? i know there is a way which mentioned in the previous post, which is through outlook sync, but i don't use outlook as well, any help?
Well there's a pretty easy way to do it but you need to do just a little bit more work. I do this and it's pretty easy. All you need to do is go to the exact birthdate of your contact so say James was born on 15th March 1985, So i would go to 15th March 1985 and set up his birthday there as a recurring all day event with Alarm. Now not only will your phone alert you of the birthday every year but it will also tell you how many years old he is that year with the age in brackets... Third party software like thumbcal really makes things easy but it's not necessary once you're used to doing this...

hahaha, what a cute way to solve this problem, although i know it'll take a longer time to do it, but i think it works, thx anyway, but i do really hope to have an easier way which when i insert it to contact's birthday and it will automatically show up in calendar, thx for the method, will try out then
Sync with Outlook
Outlook looks at contact birthdays and automatically puts them in your calendar. When you sync, they'll be there on your device calendar as well

Not that I'm aware of
I have just noticed this and a bit annoyed
I am setting up family/friends birthdays on my HTC HD 2 and ive noticed an error
HTC Calendar
Birthday say 18th December 2010
Repeat every 18th December
For somereaosn it won't show anything against this date in the month/week view.
To get it to work you have to go into the windows calendar under start etcand put it in there and then you can see it in the htc calendar
VERY STRANGE, CAN SOMEONE TRY IT FOR ME

same issue.
I set it up with the correct details, but didnt add the repeat.
It added it to htc calendar. then go and edit, adding the repeat, and it stays there.
Yeah tried that and it works but you shouldn't have to do this.

It was impossible for me to set and quarterly appointment. Any suggestions?
noticed the same, and found somewhat of a fix.
Set the appointment for the day you want it without repeat. then edit it and turn repeat on with the frequency that you wish. it should work.
Also, if you tried to put a repeating appointment and nothing appearead, check 1st of janyary 2011, with my phone i had all the failed attempts magically moved there.
I had a similar problem.
Tried to save a friend's birthday on December 15th. So it was an all-day event, recurring every 15th of Dec., status free. Result? I couldn't see it... I gave it up to 5-6 tries, as far as I remmbered.
However, I've later realised that all of the 6 or whatever shots were saved... on January 15th!
I've notified HTC about this. They said they'll look into it!
In my opinion, it's worth you'll let them know as well

Another person with the same problem - a really annoying bug. As Rhyn0 said all the appointments have been created on the right date, just in January 2011.
This is with the 1.66 ROM - where do i send a bug report? - EDIT: emailed them about it.
same here, appointments are there (myphone and standard calendar recognize them) but htc calendar is not showing anything on that particular day.
if you add a birthday to a contact, that shows up where it should.

I'm sorry, what do you mean? most of my contacts have birthdays and I use b2c (birthday2calendar) to add them as appointments, which works fine, except that now I don't see them in my htc calendar (neither do I see manually added appointments). But they are there, so it must be a bug in htc calendar.
