OK, it happened. It was powered on, splashed, went under for about 3 seconds and I pulled it out. I immediately pulled the battery and set it out to dry. so now 24 hours later I power it up and .... well the lcd is toast. I can heat everything power up and navigate blindly somewhat. I open the phone and then I hear it dialing numbers randomly.
OK, that is all I can figure out so far. The question is do you guys think it is worth trying to replace the lcd and see if that fixes the majority of the problems or a waste of time?
In the mean time I have ordered a tilt/8925 or whatever they are calling it now.
Ouch...some users say that you need to open it up and clean it with some solution to get rid of the stuff that the water puts on there. I've always been paranoid about that (PDA is the new newpaper in the can...).
Its fairly easy to open, just make sure you download the guides(in wiki under htc service manual). Its a HELL of a lot EASIER if you also have the number 6 torque key... Once you do it you'll see its fairly robust and takes an awful lot of force to break., just follow the steps one at a time and TAKE YOUR TIME cos theres no first prize for flying through the disassembly and finding you forgot to put something back or missed a screw.
Cheers...
Steelpreacher;
Just as a side note; my 8525 has hit water twice! The first time it fell into my garden pond; just barely hit the water when I caught it but it did get wet. After doing 'all the right things', I was in the same boat as you--no lcd; could navigate blindly. Took it apart somewhat and left it open. When I came back to it about 3 weeks later, it was alive and well! Screen was fine and all the keys worked.
If you do buy another phone as I did, keep the other around as a spare and check it again in a month or so. It may surprise you!
I wounder if you use it as toilet paper or what.
Selling?
Would you like to sell it? Coming back from all that damage may be pricy.

yeah i have had mine almost a week now i noticed it after i removed that plastic screen thing that was on the back of the screen.
it seems kinda cheap feeling when i push down on the screen and i hear it sweak and move every time. should i take it back?
Mine started sqeaking and creaking today. NOOOOO!
I only had it for 2 days. I kept the plastic on the back of the screen and it still does this by the way. Its too awesome of a phone for this litte stuff to bother me though. I came from a Touch Dual that had a solid keyboard for a little over a year before it became wobbly and squeky before it final died. So I imagine its better sooner than latter cause you just adapt the longer you use it.
My 2 Cents,
Jcostanza4
I had the same problem the first day I got mine. I'm still trying to figure out a way to keep it from squeaking/creaking. Honestly it's just annoying right now. My TYTN II was a brick compared to this phone as far as size and weight. If I figure anything out I'll post it up.
The only idea I've had so far is to take one of my old Palm screen shields and use it on the back of the screen. However since I ordered a Zagg full body protector I think I actually might get that piece with the set. Like I said I'll post up when I got more info.
try adding a little strip of adhesive felt to the upper part of the chin (where it meets the screen when closed). Works for me. Actually, if you want to test this out or cant find the felt, take three post it notes(together for the right thickness), cut them down, black out with a magic marker, and you'll get the same effect. Barely noticable.
yes mines loose too you feel it when you only hold the bottom and tap the screen u here the screen and the body click.

Maybe you're pressing too hard? Mine creaks if I really press down hard.
On my wing, I had to press down hard, it's built for a stylus.
But this device is built for your fingers, and should respond with a very light touch. Try using it with barely touching it, if it doesn't respond try pressing a tiny bit harder, you should not have to push down hard enough to make the screen creak -- unless the screen is badly attached, in which case I would take it back to the store.
this is what happens when HTC wants a thin, light phone with a hardware qwerty
it doesnt bother me much though
So the paint problem on my power button got worse after i picked at with my finger nail ONCE just curious on the construction like a RETARD.
what followed was a week of pain and humiliation. The paint started coming off slowly leaving my hand looking like i was touching glitter, It was like a flesh eating virus, the glitter continued and button started looking worse and worse so i decided Saturday that i would end this once and for all, i got out nail polish remover, a magic eraser, and a microfiber cloth and the result is a BARE bright RED power button that is visible from 20 feet away and looks absolutely horrible. What i also didn't expect that the nail polish remover also took some of the paint off the area around the button and off the side of the phone.
The end result is that my phone is now an embarrassment, fully functional, the rest of the phone is in perfect shape but no matter how well i keep care of it now it will still have a huge red button visible from 20 feet away.
*sigh*
looks pretty cool
Bust out a silver sharpie and give it a quick paint job.
Note to self: "Keep phone away from nail polish remover." I have a slight bubble developing on my End button. I'm hoping I don't have to scrape everything off. On the other hand you could go ahead and scrape off the paint on the Call button and have a nice Christmasy-looking phone. LOL
is this a good enough excuse to get an EVO the day it comes out?
god i am bummed out

Duck tape fixes everything!!
Get small piece and stick it over the button.. Or take phone apart, rap duck tape around it.. In the process, dont break phone so you wont have to duck tape the entire thing together.
mine looks exactly the same dude.. :/
my back button even is starting to peel
I am afraid that if i start experimenting with paint and glue that my hero will end up out my apartment window.
no matter what i do it is always going to look bad, but seriously i need to make this less obvious.
did i mention that when the back light is lit on it, it is bright as hell too.

Take it to sprint and say the paint just wore away. You are a heavy phone user and you dont like how this happened. Ask what you options are and say you would like to get the buttons replaced. They do the work for free if you are insured.
It's a nice pic nonetheless.
it looks like t-1000

Mine just started peeling off last week. Not a heavy phone user, but regardless, the End Key is now peeling . I have insurance, so I'm debating on whether to take it in or not. If they can just fix the button, great. If not, well, we'll see. That and I'd likely have to RUU before taking it in (unless I just leave it powered off .)
Get some silver nail vanish and reverse the issue
Scratch everything off both the call and end buttons and just pretend it's supposed to be that way. That works for me, but I know it would bug some people.

That's what I did. It really does not bother me. At least I don't have the dust issue. I don't trust a sprint tech taking my phone apart for those two buttons. It really looks alright when both buttons are missing the paint.
my phone end button is peel off too. I guess phone was never meant for moderate to heavey usage for end button imho.

At 1st I was horribly upset that I had to carefully scrape the paint off of the button. But it grew on me over time & I can use the phone without graying hairs over paint peel.
on mine is the power button and the return button too sprint said that they can send me another one phone
Same thing here mine looks exactly like urs :/ Anthink i,m goign tto try and mask it off and get some hobby paint..idk what color thou
I completely peeled my power button months ago. It's red, I'm over it.
The "back" button has been doing the same thing. The little back arrow is a blob of naked plastic now. I don't care since I'm getting an EVO.
There are threads at Sprint and other Hero forums where people have been trying to get Sprint or HTC to replace the phone because of this. I think only one person got lucky and was given a new phone.
Hey guys, it seems the volume buttons on mine are not as fit as the power button. The button is sorta loose in it's joints and I can shake the phone and hear it move around a little. Is this the case for you guys? The power button is firmly fixed in its socket.
Yes. My first one was like a maraca. If you shook the phone, it would make a sound, It was also lose when I moved it with my thumb.
I exchanged it and the new one is a bit better, but with use, I think is becoming lose again. Still better than the first one, but not as the nexus one.
So it seems is a quality or "design" problem. You are not alone.

i have the same thing mine were loose so i took it back got another and everything is ok but it feels they are getting loose again
okay, I really don't want to be an ass and change the phone simply because of this but I did pay for a phone built to specification. Can any more of you guys chime in on if it starts to get loose after use? Does it rattle like mine when you shake it? If all Vibrants do get loose after use, I'd rather not exchange it.
Thanks~

mine rattled pretty bad and for all the money i spent for the phone i would like it to not rattle if i was you id take it back anyway lol some are saying newer ones work better too
simple fix
cut a piece of thick paper, like a business card the width of the volume key, slide about a quarter inch inbetween the volume key and the device, bend it inward and close the back cover, if I had another phone/cam I'd show u, but its simple to figure out, it makes the key snug and it works just fine

you're kidding right
I got my Vibrant on the 22nd and I haven't had any trouble with the volume keys, or anything else for that matter

actually I just read it again, you're not kidding lol. I'll give it a shot thanks. Can you give me a little more indept explanation please?
My first one had stiff keys, second one is loose.
My second one had the rattling volume key so I exchanged it. The new one doesn't seem to be loosening up at all.

dangit, i am contemplating as to changing this or not. yes it's not a big deal... eh, i'm just going to keep it. I don't want to take another risk and get another one with crappy gps. This is already my second Vibrant. With the rubber case from T-Mo on it, it doesn't rattle anyway.
Thanks for the input folks
Mine are loose but it really doesn't bother me anymore. Im curious to try the fix for this though lol
if you guys/gals could humor me and take a super close look at your power button and tell me what you see, i would appreciate it.
maybe, just maybe, im being anal, paranoid, whatever. this wouldnt be unusual for me as im super sensitive about my expensive electronics.....
but i swear one corner of my power button is starting to peel. one corner (botton right) looks like its starting to peel up. maybe im trippin'. im bout ready to bust out a magnifying glass and look at this thing (as soon as i can find one)
I can't see anything, but I have the feeling that my power button gets worn out from pressing. I don't know if I just became used to press the button or if it becomes easier to press, means I need less pressure almost like the spring is wearing out.

Same feeling here, but I'm certain that I'm just used to it now. When I let friends play with my phone they struggle like I used to. Wimps

lol! yeah thats my favorite. "how the hell do you turn it on?!! oh" "how the hell do you unlock it??!!! oh" --- MY phone *****!
But to the OP, yeah I notice my top left corner has a slight gap but isn't pealing.
To the above two posts, yes, the button on my atrix and my room mates have broken in since we got them a week ago. At first we were both pissed off because we couldn't turn the **** on. Now its almost tolerable although I would still appreciate an extra 1/2mm of button.
Also, my finger print reader area already looks 'worn.' We'll see how well it holds up. Always have that 1 year warranty and if it does break from normal use, you can always talk to ATT and have them give you a different phone...
