Hey. I'm a musician and sometimes I use the microphone on my Wing to record song ideas. I usually open up "notes", "view [the] recording toolbar" and record. The last time I opened notes it started me out with a black note. I recorded a guitar riff, and then a little speaker icon appeared in note; when I click on the icon it plays the recording. Is there a way to extract that sound file that's embedded in this note so I can save it as a .wav file?
I've tried recording with "voice notes," but the quality sucks; *.amr files are annoying. Is there a way to change the quality and type of file?
Thanks.
PWI2WAV
adam79, a few months ago I found a solution: Look here: http://www.huslik.net/. It's freeware.
Go to Software section and choose PWI2WAV.
It converts perfectly. Just drag the PWI file onto the exe in Windows (I stil think this is a funny way of filehandling) and the wav comes out!
Good luck.

when turning on the phone (after a reset or just turning it on), the phone looks for the signal and once it's found it makes this little sound (like a small, short beep). at the same time the "G" for GPRS can be seen on the upper part of the screen. does anyone know the NAME of that sound :?: file? i have a short wav file that i want to use for the GPRS connection indicator. before the low bat sound fix came out; what i did was get the name of the default lowbat wav file name; then replaced it with another wav file (overwrite).
cheers
hi
i`v done some research for you and it came out with some interesting resaults  here they are:
this GPRS sound you`r hearing is the same sound that's being played when you change the volume with the side volume button on the xda and the slider is in the middle.
this is NOT a WAV file. its called standard.mid.
here is the interesting part. 8)
the xda is capable of playing small 1 note MIDI files! as system sounds.
when you hang-up a call you hear another MIDI file called pegdisconnect.mid.
so in order to change these files, you need a midi editor like cakewalk. just note when you edit these files that they have to be in a 1 note format (1 channel).

hey,
thanks a bunch for that info; first time i found out that the xda was capable of playing midi files! so i take it the sound i'm hearing has the name of "standard.mid"? if so, is it possible to convert standard wav files to midi files as well (using those media-file converters (e.g. wav to mp3)?
i'll give the midi file editor a try; and keep in mind what you've said about the one-note format. what happens if it's more than that....no sound?
cheers mate!
"is it possible to convert standard wav files to midi files as well (using those media-file converters (e.g. wav to mp3)?"
because mid files are a pattern of predefined instruments those programs need to make many choices to convert and the result is often hhmmm interesting and of cause not voice and strange sounds like that of a car door closing
Has anyone here found any software to use non-wav files as notifications? I have this really funny mp3 file that I want to use as my SMS notification sound but even when I transcoded the file to 11kHz or 22kHz mono wav and I even tried renaming it and overwriting the Alarm2.wav file in the Windows folder and it still refused to play. It shows up in the list of selectable files but it won't play. Does anyone know of any compact and low price (preferably free) software to do this? Thank you ^_^
By the way, I've tried out the trial version of phoneAlarm, it works but it seems to do a bit more than what I need it to do. If I can't find something smaller though I may end up buying this program.
I use windows sound recorder and save as PCM 22.050 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono or PCM 11.025 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono and it works on WindowsMobile. You don't have to overwrite the built in sounds of WM [I do not think it is possible anyway as they are in ROM] just copy your WAV to \Windows they should work if you have encoded it correctly.
I love being able to have mp3's for ring tones but I don't always want them to start from the begining. Does anyone know of a freeware/open source app that will let me edit my mp3 to start from a different point in the song?
best Freeware i have found...BAM here you go:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
dont forget to download the Lame mp3 encoder as well, upzip the file and Find the lame_enc.dll file and then u can export files anyway you want.

i just use windows movie maker, it is very easy to do. (comes with all Windows PC's)
I use nero's wave editor, if you have a full version you can save it as mp3pro to save more space
I second that Audacity all the way. I just take the best 30 seconds out of a track, my phone diverts to voicemail after at 30 seconds job done.
I agree, audacity is fairly easy to use. You can add effects to your mp3, fade out at the end of it. You can zoom in to cut out right where you want.
I second Nero Sound Editor, works great at 48kbs

ringtones:
what i always do is next: i download a cool mp3 song on my pc.
connect your mobile with your pc make sure you have activesync installed.
upload the song to a place on your mobile with file explorer. doesnt matter where you put it.
and then in the file explorer on your mobile you press and hold the song you want and wait for the menu that says: use as ringtone or something like that..
for real ringtones... donno... google?
sms/alarm sounds:
make sure you have a .wav file
*i noticed that it has a maximum sizelimit... dont know how much exacly but if its too big you cannot select it from the small menu on your phone.
connect your mobile with your pc make sure you have activesync installed.
then with file explorer goto the windows folder on your mobile and paste the .wav file in here and now you can select the sounds from the menu.
I use WavePad to crop and amplify the parts of songs I have on CD that I want to use for ringtones. I wouldn't keep more than 25-30 seconds of the song as a ringtone - more than that can screw up the voicemail intercept. Instructions below:
Crop a 25-30 second piece of the song
Select All, and then go to EFFECTS->Normalize, and set that to 80%
Select All, and then goto EFFECTS->High Pass Filter. Set the Frequency (hZ) to 160. This will play back your file, and remove the bass which would normally distort and cause ringer speaker blowouts on the phone.
Fade In/Out the ends
Amplify (twice - 400, then 200)
Save As, bitrate to 8khz 16 bit mono.
"Save File As ..." WAV, PCM, 8,000 16 bit mono 15kb/sec
My usual ringtone is "Uncle John's Band" (Grateful Dead) but I switch to "Down at the Twist and Shout" (Mary Chapin Carpenter) when I go to New Orleans and "Wasted on the Way" when I'm in the mood for some CSN. More than you wanted to know but just shows the possibilities. Good luck.
