Western digital my book world edition and kaiser - Networking

Hi,
I am thinking about buying a Western Digital My Book World edition - access to files over the web & wondered if anyone knew of a way of accessing it over the net through my kaiser (MDA Vario 3)?
If it's not possible with this drive is there a drive that will do it? I'm currently using orb but would like a solution that doesn't mean I need to leave a PC switched on, just a NAS drive.
Thanks

It appears the My Book WE requires proprietary software to access the drive remotely. And WD doesn't have any PPC version at the moment.
To answer your second question, I don't know. I've done some brief checking and can't locate any NAS type drive that's PPC compatible. But, like I said, that was from a brief search. Someone else may have found some kind of solution, but it doesn't appear that there are any "big name" devices that fit what you need.

this one got an ftp server which any pda should be able to connect to if on the network
also the WD my book world got very very bad reviews of you google around
bad non vista/linux/mac working software to get access to it
and poor transfer speeds
but i agree it looks kinda neat

O2 XDA - wireless 'linkup' experiment! Help?

Hi,
I was just wondering if its possible to 'link' the XDA Exec with multiple Laptops so that the laptops all show the XDA's display? Lets assume all Laptops have wi-fi, bluetooth and run Windows XP.
Purposes may be to share a PP presentation, show a software demo etc. (I need to give a tutorial and demo in a room with no projector ).
I was curious if anyone has had any experiance with this? Any advice regarding the best setup (or software) would be great. Cheers.
Nobody any ideas whatsoever?
You could install windows media encoder on one of the laptops, and a remote control app. Then run the remote control app so you can see your phone's screen. Once that's working you can run windows media encoder in screen caputre mode, all the other laptops will be able to connect it it then.

You can play with Microsoft's "ActiveSync Remote Display". The tool allows you to work with your PPC remotely from your laptop/PC using ActiveSync connection. But you will need to install ActiveSync and this tool to every laptop
If it is a matter of presentation, why don't you copy your presentation to local server's shared folder and ask people to open the file from this folder and listen to your instructions, like Going to next slide... At least there won't be any hassle with intervention to participants' laptops and personal space ))
ps: if you do possess a PC you can run something like MS Netmeeting and establish AS connection with your PDA through AS Remote Display at your PC. Share AS Remote Display application and ask people to connect to your PC's NetMeeting or any other remote conference software
Let us know on your results
Cheers

Thats my last resort - I hate doing presentations like this especially when we have the technology to do something 'fancy'
I will give some feedback to let you know how I managed it (I will succeed)!
Cheers for the ideas!

I just had a look at AS Remote Display and it seemed this would do the trick - However, it does not work with Windows Mobile 5.0.
Does anyone know of a release of AS Remote Display for Windows Mobile 5? I had a look around but there does not seem to be much on offer which is compliant with 5.0.
Right, another problem.
I just installed an app called : Laplink Controller thinking as it offered the functionality I was looking for.
After a supposidly successful install I tried to run it - no joy. It reccommended I uninstall and re-install the software, so I did.
When re-installing I got a message saying:
Cannot load resouce library:
\Windows\MWRes???412L.dll
It now comes up everytime I do a soft reset. Anybody seen this error?

Stream webcam to BA over wifi network

I'm looking for a solution that will let me stream my webcam to my pda, over my wifi network and not the internet. I have tried orb with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe all those solutions are more interested in using the PDA as a webcam. What I am interested in is using the PDA to monitor my room where my webcam is (coz thats where the baby sleeps). Is there anyway this can be done?
maybe a search like this

I had done that earlier, let me find out how did i do it?
Best i got...
So far the best , but not very elegant at all, solution I have is to use logmein. Not only does this go through the internet, which is something I am trying to avoid, but it also gives entire control of the pc, whereas I just want a quick stream over wifi of what the webcam is seeing.
Surely there must be someway to stream directly over the network?
Tried http://www.google.com.au/search?cli...+webcam+over+network&meta=&btnG=Google+Search or http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=...m+webcam+over+local+network&btnG=Search&meta=
try digi-watcher. works for me.

logitech used to have that feature to publish to a webpage and would update the picture at a user specified interval. don't know if they still do. i'm surprised orb didn't work. i would have tried logmin as well or a remote desktop client directly if your just at home with wifi. other thought is any webcam streamer that has it's own internet server. years ago i bought a security program cheap (under £10)
called supervision cam. it does time lapse capture or motion change capture and then would upload pics to a website or email to an address. it wouldn't be a stream as such but if you told it to not change the file name by adding a number and only use the same name every time then you could get a 1 to 3 frames per second update to a web page. then just compose the page to auto resfresh every few seconds. just don't do it from a mobile gprs connection unless your data plan has a huge inclusive
I cant believe it - all you need to do, is to put your keywords into google

Try Windows Media Encoder 9.0, it's free. Can be unstable, but it should be enough for your use...

Air Sharing for Windows Mobile?

First things first, I'm not new to the forum...and I apologize for creating a thread for this!
So I was in the iTunes app store for my iPod Touch and I came across this ultimately cool app: Air Sharing
http://www.avatron.com/products/
This program lets you use the iPhone/iPod Touch as a virtual drive, available with pw protection.
Do any of you know if theres something like this for Windows Mobile Phones? Or if someone is interested in developing something like this?
There are apps that will turn the PDA into a USB disk. I prefer just running a small FTP server on the PDA to dump my files via WiFi whenever I need to.
Now if someone could only port a SSH server as well so I could tunnel traffic though SSH, that be sweet.
really? Do you mind posting up the usb app or something like that?
it's called wmstorage i think the most recent one is 1.8 you should be able to search in dev and hack and find it
what type of device do you have?
wm5 storage works really well, also softick card export will show on pc as usb drive. but these are not wireless.
wow thanks a lot for all the suggestions, though the wireless part of air sharing is totally cool. I'll be sure to look into the suggestions tho
So does anyone know how to make something like air share? I have the touch, since I dont like the iPhone..(weird i know) but the touch uses wifi so it couldnt keep a stable internet connection all the time thus not allowing me access files on it all the time as well..
Any chances a developer out there would take a look into something like this?
a Friend had Airshare on his iphone,
he come to me, had my WLAn Key...
he startet Airshare, give me an Link (from his Iphone)
i write it to my Internet Explorer at PC, and TATA, i can download or Upload Files to the Iphone
needs some seconds Time, that i can Upload Files to Airshare
WOW WOW WOW
this is really cool
i search as well an Ap for WM like Airshare.
Bump this thread, very interested in an app like this, used the air sharing today on an iphone and would love to be able to use my phone as a wireless drive. Ive tried things like mocha ftp and can only send from phone to computer not the other way. Appreciate any help with finding an app for winmo!
Thanks in advance.
edit double post.
I use mocha and I can send from the computer to the phone just fine. If you're having problems doing that, try using a dedicated FTP client like FileZilla.
Here is my good deed of the day:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-serversman.html
I tested, checked for any issues and found none. It literally setups your phone as a server.
However, it a very little known app. Play at your own risk.
Very kind. Thank you for your speedy response. This is why I love XDA Devs.
OK. Slightly delayed response here... However, I'm considering switching back to a WinMo phone and ditching the restricted iPhone... However, I would like to ensure that I have the same functionality on my WinMo as I do with my iPhone, so I'm looking for similar or same apps before I make the switch... Looks like "Air Sharing" has a WinMo comparable app: www . mobile-stream . com / airshare . html ... Mobile Stream's "Air Share"...
Does the mobile-stream work for windows mobile to use it as a secondary monitor for computer?
also I notice its only for bluetooth. Is there on for just using internet ?

Browsing X1 media files via pc/ps3

Hi everyone, 1st post on this forum so please be gentle.
I've recently upgraded to an X1 from a nokia n95.
One of the things i that i used to be able to do with my n95 was browse my photos and music files that i had stored on the phone using my playstation 3 or my laptop over a wi-fi connection.
Havn't found an obvoius way to do this yet on the X1.
Is there an app or something in the settings that i can change so that i can do this on my x1 or isn't this possible?
anyone .
please.
Don't you simply see all content of your X1 in your WIN Explorer like attached?
Certainly you would have needed to set up the connection between your X1 and the PC, but I guess you'll anyway have done that for synchnonisation reasons?

Yes i can do this no problem when i plug the phone into the pc via a usb cable.
I just wanted to know if i could do this over wi-fi without having to use any cables at all. I could with my n95.
I had an N95 aswel and I have to say that I miss how easy I could make it share all media files through the home network. This had something to do with UPnP I remember. Any program which could make the xperia almost a media server?
Cheers
Hi!
Just found a UPnP Server (for Windows Mobile 5.0) at Microsoft. As my X1 has not arrived up to now, i cannot try it out. Seems to be a package with several server components. If UPnP Server works, loggin in to your WLAN access point should make the UPNP Server promote itself and the X1 data accessible inside the local net.
Overview
This package contain optional redistributable server components that you can incorporate into your own applications for the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform.
MSMQ - Contains the core MSMQ libraries and the MSMQ administration utilities visadm and msmqadm.
HTTPD - Contains the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server.
PeerNet - Contains the Peer-to-Peer core library, the Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRP) Namespace Provider (NSP) and the Peer-to-Peer service.
UPnPCtrl - Contains the core UPnP control point libraries.
UPnPHost - Contains the core UPnP device host libraries.
For full documentation, please see: Windows Mobile Version 5.0 SDK - Optional Server Components in the MSDN Online Library.

Greetings from Vienna
Baxxx
It's a library. We need also a program that up a multimedial server.
I would love to see development on this front. I am trying out a HTC Touch HD coming from a N95 whihc is my main phone.
The media server ability of the N95 is extremely useful. I used to use to show pics on the PS3 wirelessly whenever i took snaps.
Much like wireless cameras with Upnp. Hopefully someone can make a solution. Its odd not having it.
the reason you could do that with your n95 was because it had dlna media server capabilities.. i kno the x1 was supposed to be able to do this initially but it got removed for some stupid reason..(it was in the original white paper)..i was really looking forward to this and was bummed when i got my phone and realized it was removed..so i doubt u will be able to do what your aiming at, your best bet would most likely be to map your public/shared folders to your phone so you could easily synchronise it

No there is no TV-Out available nor will there be for the HD. (at best, a TV might recognize it as an external drive and show you the music/pics/videos but this is all dependent on the tv)
Hello, you should do a search with the keywords "pico projector", it's what you are looking for, you'll be able to project whatever you want,
