I believe all those solutions are more interested in using the PDA as a webcam. What I am interested in is using the PDA to monitor my room where my webcam is (coz thats where the baby sleeps). Is there anyway this can be done?

maybe a search like this
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&s...=result&cd=1&q=pocket+pc+security+cam&spell=1

I had done that earlier, let me find out how did i do it?

Best i got...
So far the best , but not very elegant at all, solution I have is to use logmein. Not only does this go through the internet, which is something I am trying to avoid, but it also gives entire control of the pc, whereas I just want a quick stream over wifi of what the webcam is seeing.
Surely there must be someway to stream directly over the network?

Tried http://www.google.com.au/search?cli...+webcam+over+network&meta=&btnG=Google+Search or http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=...m+webcam+over+local+network&btnG=Search&meta=

try digi-watcher. works for me.

logitech used to have that feature to publish to a webpage and would update the picture at a user specified interval. don't know if they still do. i'm surprised orb didn't work. i would have tried logmin as well or a remote desktop client directly if your just at home with wifi. other thought is any webcam streamer that has it's own internet server. years ago i bought a security program cheap (under £10)
called supervision cam. it does time lapse capture or motion change capture and then would upload pics to a website or email to an address. it wouldn't be a stream as such but if you told it to not change the file name by adding a number and only use the same name every time then you could get a 1 to 3 frames per second update to a web page. then just compose the page to auto resfresh every few seconds. just don't do it from a mobile gprs connection unless your data plan has a huge inclusive

I cant believe it - all you need to do, is to put your keywords into google

Try Windows Media Encoder 9.0, it's free. Can be unstable, but it should be enough for your use...

Watching a WebCam Feed on your PPC

I've used severall PC programs that sends an webcam feed to the net, and you can see it with a simple browser, anywhere in the world thru internet. It's really good for home security and stuff.
The thing is, I cant see this live feeds in any Pocket Pc Browser Any Thoughts?
Try it using a program called "netfront" instead of the PIE, i use axis cameras, and servers, and have a PPC program just for viewing the cameras it works everytime
John
I've Tried NetFront. and can't see the video feed of any webcam survaeillance prog I've tried.
I wonder if you could imporove your odds by installing Java on your PPC
I got Midlet manager, what else can I install?

Security camera on pocket pc
Hi all. Did anyone figure out viewing an ip camera on pocket pc?
Have tried net front, can't seem to figure out address that works on axis software.Any suggestions gratefully considered. Thanks

Hi lovemyxda,
You can try ViewCommander from www.viewcommander.com. There's a compatibility list of cameras there.
I've tried viewing using WiFi and GPRS. Have not try using 3G yet

Hi macsoft,
I've tried using my PPC as a webcam but to no avail.
Since you've succeeded in setting up your PPC as a webcam can you post your procedure here and the software you used.
Many thanks
Hi macsost, I have a Creative Webcam which come with a sorfware enabling it to send Jpeg to the net (like IP camera) . However, I don't know how to use such function. It seems that I have to set FTP ... or so on in order to see my webcam.
Could you kindly advise step by step which procedure I must follow to see my webcam.
There are several apps helping you doing this. but, a better option would be a network cam. they are not that expensive anymore. look @ trust.com
get a second hand axis 2100, and use a program called ACE, Axis camera explorer, we have 7 cameras and a 4 port server here and i check them all the time on my XDA, over WiFi and GPRS
John
yep , BEST solution ! gr8 app for pda and best network cams
Windows Media encoder
I have been using my £7 web cam from Ebuyer and a copy of windows media encoder.
I set the media encoder to use the web cam for video, my soundblaster Audigy with Mic plugged in for sound and then set to broadcast at the best quality it can.
I have been watching my house from next door using my Wifi router and windows media player on my MDA compact.
This is pretty cool, lags about 2 seconds behind the real action.
The good thing is that it broadcasts over the net without set up, you just click the find empty port button and your away!
All my mates have been well impressed, when I get home Im going to try to set up VPN at home, go to my mates house and use my MDA compact through his wifi to connect via the t'intawob.
If its possible I'll post my findings! I cant see why not.
View Commander for pocket PC
I run a Panasonic BB-HCM331 IP camera.
To connect I have attached to a Wireless client device via the ethernet port.
Allocate one of your public IP addresses to the camera this will keep it off your network. Then input this ip address into View Commander and Hey Ho you have a transportable wireless IP cam. Great for watching your garden in the Pub.
Demo available at www.cccamera.co.uk.
Bonus this is Pan Tilt and Zoom. Even works over GPRS
Cheers

Linksys WVC54G internet camera on XDA Exec

Hi
Has anyone managed to get streaming video from the Linksys WVC54G wireless internet camera on the XDA Exec?
I have been trying for ages and just tried Ivi View Commander but there is not an option for Linksys.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has managed it
TIA
George

I have the same camera and have had no luck finding a program to see the live video, except for a roundabout method. If you use logmein.com remote computer access, you can see your own desktop and view the video by running the linksys viewer and recorder. It works quite well. Gotomypc does not work but logmein.com is cheaper and seems to be a better system.

Where is the problem
Hi all,
i have the same cam, and it works perfect on my mda-pro ;-)
I use TCMP to view my cam´s here is the link http://www.tcmp.org/
You have to open it like a file only insert http://ip.of.cam/img/video.asf
as file name !
Greetings from germany
RAVE
view video
Yes, it works very well. However, how do you connect when you are not next to your desktop or wireless network? logmein.com is the only way I have found to view your live video. The camera will send me emails as .asf files to my universal when I am connected to the 3g network, and those videos can be viewed with tcpmp player. It took me many days to get the email sending to work as linksys did not provide the correct drivers. They sent me a beta driver that finally works as it should.
No problem
i have a dyndns account, and chose a alternate port in the linksys cam.
then i told my router to link this port to the ip of the cam and so it works from everywhere ;-)
in TCMP i choose : http://my.dyndns.accout:port/img/video.asf
have fun
RAVE
Rave:
That is excellant!
Full screen as well...
I have also used a different port and had put that in as you show so I knew that was working, but wondered about about the username and password, somehow being included in the url, any ideas?
But hey it works, thanks!
May I ask who you have your dyndns a/c with?
Chetccox:
Any chance you can post the file or tell me who/where I can get it from, I am waiting for Linksys to come back to me...
It does work over 3G (just tried it) as long as you have the IP address
Best wishes
George

MSN messenger app with frontcam as webcam ?

Dear all,
I have been wondering if there is an application with messenger, which would have hermes frontcam as a webcam. After a long search I did not manage to find any apps like this. (with this i mean an app, which is running on the WM, NOT on PC).
However I came across one opinion about the thing that it could NOT be possible, since the heavy need of processing of the cam. I started thinking is that right, how much processing speed does it need to run a webcam with like only few pictures per second and a basic chat app running on msn messenger standard.
In my unprofessional opinion that should be possible, and if it is, why isnt anyone else interested in this kind of a thing, and why its not available.
Please somebody, do that kind of an application so I wouldnt have to learn WM PPC programming just because to do that.
or alternatively, prove me wrong.
/Henry
It is defenately possible. I use Web Camera plus and you phone will act as a perfect webcam. You can even choose if you want the front cam or normal cam.

Thanks for the cool info!
Unfortunately that is working as a webcam for a messenger running on a PC only.. Not for messenger application running on my Hermes itself.
Is this impossible, is this going to be my Alamo?
/Henry
Ow, that i do not know. I'm not aware of an app that can do that, allthough i think it should be possible.
Maybe someone else can help you.
Im going to have to say that i doubt such a program exists or will exist.
MSN uses a lot of processing power to convert raw video into a streamed format.
Just because it is possible to do 3G video calls doesnt mean that MSN will use the same compression method.
What they'd first need to develop is voice calls through MSN. Not just voice clips.
hey, check out microsoft portrait, it has an app for both PC and PPC it is actually a development for voice/cam chat for portable devices, work on my wizard, however I don't have a hermes, so you will just need to try it and see, post back the results.
http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/
on my wizard it does have a drop down for the different cameras it detects, however the wizard only has one camera, so i believe it may bring up both cameras on the hermes

Cool stuff! Will try it out as soon as I get a internet connection.. Just now Im located in Netherlands (against my will ) without internet subscription and with horrible dutch 3g data transfer pricing.
Reporting back from Finland! The land of the thousands lakes and stuff..
---
sry for that.. just noticed that the file is actually under 1 meg.. so even I can afford that with stupid dutch pricing..
I tried to install it but i couldn't
I've got the last windows installer but the msi gives me a error message every time (i'm running a windows xp professional sp2)

I will try that out later tonight. Which version of WM are you running? 5 or 6? and which version of the phone you have? ..or maybe you ment that its not installing on your computer..
I mean that is not installing on my computer, if I transfer the file to my hermes, it doesn't work either.
Does it work for you ?
I'm on WM6 (Schaps version 3.54c)

That's a shame. It's been a while since I used either service. My setup was such that I had a URL to go to when I wanted to use the camera. I could even use the pan and tilt functions from my PC. I was using 2 iPAQs, an hx4700 running WM2003SE and a WM6.0 iPAQ 214. It worked quite well. There might have been some changes since then though.
I moved on to setting my cameras to send pictures via e-mail at predetermined intervals or if any motion was detected. This saved on bandwidth and the pictures sent were of a higher resolution.
The cameras aren't set up right now but if I get some time I'll put them back up and see if they still work.

look for "phone screen sharing" in samsung apps. there you'll find the mobile client!
there are also versions for all kind of PC's "floating" around, as normally the PC client is only for certain samsung models.
otherwise this tool works great!

Is your phone rooted? If so, I use VMLite VNC Server.
Just wanted to add, VMLite VNC Server works without rooting. Regular Note 3 works just fine, you will need a free desktop program to start the server, though. Once vnc server is running, you can use a vnc viewer on pc to view and control the android phone, and record a movie. etc.
