I just bought an 8525 and realised I could have gotten the 8925 for less instead. Should I keep the 8525 or trade it within the 30 day window for the 8925?
If you decide you don't want to do it. Do it anyway and I will trade you my 8525 for the 8925
Trade it in. Get the 8925. Its better and cheaper. What more convincing do you need.
I just faced this same decision, and decided to stay with the 8525. Here's why:
1. The 8525 is a known device - lots of fixes for the things that don't work. The 8925 is unknown, and there have been lots of complaints without a lot of solutions to follow them up.
2. The 8925 only has the offical WM6 ROM - for the 8525 I can get several different WM6 ROMs to suit what I need.
3. I don't see the built in GPS as a big win. The extra memory would definitely be nice, but not worth the frustration considering #1.
In the end, it came down to just being happy with the unit I have - it does everything I need, and it does it well.
Brian.
Get the 8925!

Dear friends, I am ready to buy one on eBay (for around $400, the effort of unlocking and upgrading seems interesting). But first I want to hear the voice of the experience, so many thanks in advance. After using the treo since it came to the market, I am ready to switch to the one I found the best smart phone in the market this days (please comment if you think otherwise), I can't wait to use skype on this with wifi.
1) Guides to unlocking it. (sim and cid)
2) What about warranty, it is very important for me because most of the time I live in Buenos Aires. Does TMobile or Cingular give warrant if you have no plan?
3) I hear about the earpiece failure, are there other well known failures? Are there new releases of the phone with this corrected I should take care of when buying? How to differenciate them...
I ask this because it already happened to me with the treo 3 years ago, first release of the 600 was a disaster...second one, by palmone, was much better.
4) I also hear about diverse firmware versions, any reccomendation in particular? I tend to prefer the unbranded version in general. Where to get it and how to apply it would be appreciated.
Thanks again and all the best, Miguel.
I'm contemplating buying the Advantage, but I'm torn between the X7500 and the X7501. On one hand, the X7500 has the front camera, at least giving me the possibility and option of using it for video calls and IM. On the other hand, the X7501 is ready right now with WM6. I know the 7500 runs about $200 more, but I really like the idea of having the "fully loaded" model that has every option on it.
I am in the U.S. and will be using this on AT&T. Is the X7500 setup specifically for Europe and would I run into any snags? I really wouldn't mind waiting for the official WM6, as long as I know it is definitely coming sometime in the next 90 days and will be a free upgrade.
Also, does the 7500 version come with TomTom, and if so, will U.S. maps work with it?
If anyone can give me some advice and the pros/cons, it would be much appreciated, as I will probably be making my purchase in the next few days. Thanks in advance!
I think you have almost all the pros and cons covered.
The 7500 is not set up for the U.S. but it was easy for me to set up manually.
Yes, TomTom comes with the 7500 ROM and my L.A. map worked with it.
Also keep in mind that (following the instructions on these forums) you can install a 7501 ROM on a 7500 (as I did), in which case you have, in addition to WM6 (which you also can get with a 7500 ROM), the automatic network setup and Telenav instead of TomTom.
To me, unless the front facing camera is a big deal to you, I'm not sure I'd pay much of a premium for a 7500. When I bought, the 7501 was not yet available, and I didn't want to wait!
Hope this helps.
I'm lost with all the 3G standards...
Will the x7501 work with AT&T's new 3g network (in the few places where it is available)?
I use the Dopod U1000. Got it in April and paid the premium import price, just to be one of the first to have one here in the US. It definitely works well on the Cingular (Now AT&T) 3G. It came with WM5 which easily flashed to WM6 on July 27th. It seemed like an eternity waiting for the official ROM, but with the high end device, I did not like the risk of making it a 'brick'. The front facing camera probably won't be of much use IMHO here in the states, but you can turn it on in camera mode and take a picture of yourself??? As for GPS, the Dopod did not come with any software. I used Ostia from Pharos as I have been playing with the PDA GPS for several years now. With MSLive and google maps available on the HSDPA, unless you really need turn by turn directions, I think the GPS is nice to have but not really necessary. I put a NAV unit in the car for that & use BT for the phone through it.
The X7501 works quite well with AT&T 3G (really 3.5G HSDPA). That's the carrier I use mine with mostly since I like my high speed data .
Okay, so I had the Apache since it first came out, then it fell off my motorcycle last weekend, so I got a new phone (actually 2 new phones). I got the Herald (T-Mobile Wing), and the Titan (Verizon XV6800). I decided to test T-Mobiles phone with a 30 trial contract (I'm a loyal Verizon customer for 8 years), and get the Titan. Both of these phones are brand new (purchase last 2 days).
I'm pretty much going over all the same things I did when I had the Apache (ROM upgrades, skins, apps, etc...). I noticed the ROM on the Herald is different.
The Herald has ROM version 4.10.531.3 WWE.
The Titan has ROM version 2.09.605.8.
Herald has Radio version 02.83.90
Titan has Radion version 1.30.60
The Herald came with the Voice Command (which is nice), and the HTC Task Manager. The Titan seems to run a lot faster out of the box compared to the Herald, but this is probably due to the fact that T-Mobile installed so much crap on their phone.
Also, I noticed the keypad types much faster on the Herald as opposed to the Titan. I had to disable the sounds to get it to type as fast (fix?).
Anyways, I was wondering if there is any way to extract .cab files from one phone to another. Also if anyone has any questions about the phones, feel free to ask.
I understand the wing to have vastly inferior specifications to the mogul. I looked it up when my gf wanted a blackberry. I was trying to talk her into a wm device but I gave up when I found out that the only similar thing tmobile has to the mogul is the wing. The tmobile rep said that its successor is coming out later this year. I assume that it will be the kaiser or something similar. I think they are calling their new wm phones the shadows or something like that. (the tmobile rep was not to bright so I take what he says with a grain of salt. He said that it will be very much like the wing, with the sliding keyboard and all. I suggested it might be the kaiser, and he swore up and down it could not be,becuase they were calling it something like shadow II.)
In any event, the mogul has a much faster cpu than the wing. This comes with overheating however when you connect to the internet over cellular and use the wifi at the same time. I keep sending it back and complaining. Either they will fix it in a new revision,or they will have to upgrade me. I am not to happy as I paid a lot of money for something that does not work well, but there is no other phone that meets my needs for now.
I didn't see this prohibited, so I went ahead and posted.
I'm parting with my 8525 in the name of GROG! (that would be, Getting Rid Of Gadgets!)
Makes a great phone, and a perfect phone to try out some custom ROMs!
It's on eBay, and you can see kinda what I'm asking for it. Buy it there, or make me an offer (through email or the PM), and I'll make you a deal.
Thanks!
Chester

My 2-year contract is about to expire on my 8525 and I was wondering if anyone had a suitable upgrade option for the 8525 from AT&T? I would want something similar to the 8525 with upgradeable roms and configuration. I like my 8525, but since I'm eligible it might be time to move on. The battery life on my 8525 has also dwindled way down and it seems a little dated even with all of the upgradeable software. Any ideas?
