Hi all
New to the forum, i dont actually have my SPV yet will be getting it probably next week, just want to find out all i can, but initially i`d like to know how to unlock it.
I will be using my t-mobile PAYG sim after it`s unlocked, also is it worth getting any UL software from eBay? I feel the answer is probably no!
I couldnt find anything specific to the unlocking of the SPV M600, hence the post..
Hope you can help, great forum also!

I took the easy, although not free route of using http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m600unlock.php
Cost £20 but did the job perfectly without having to mess around flashing other ROM's onto the device.
Great thanks ...
ill 2nd that option
i tried various routes.. lots of hassles.. eventually gave up and use this method. it was instant. literally 5 minutes was all it took
hi all
just received an email from t-mobile uk saying that have no plans to release the wm6 rom. Does this mean were are cursed or will we be able to use the HTC version when it comes out. is it just a case of losing branding and the cab files with the gprs settings etc???
cheers
Yeah i know, i got the same reply by email at weekend. you think that with the unit being so high spec that they would want to upgrade to WM6 for customer satisfaction
Disgraceful! Let's hope someone cracks the CID protection soon so we can use the HTC ROM when it is released!
Not good news. Let's all sign a petition and get it over to T-Mobile.
-Krip
yea, not happy about this at all, been with t-mobile for 8 years now, theyve had a **** load of money off of me. let me know if you start a petition
Since WM6 isn't an upgrade for any Advantage yet, is it really likely their emaildrone is going to know about it really?
Yes, we should petition them. But in context. "When WM6 is shipping on the Advantage please make it available for Ameo"
I second that, we need to make sure they know how not realising an operating system upgrade as big as WM6 would nark us Ameo owners off. (to put it nicely!)
Don't get upset..we'll get it anyway
Sorry guys I'm in disagreement with you on this one. I agree that a device as new and feature rich as the Ameo should definitely come with WM6, but it was never promised or even mentioned to the best of my recollection prior to and after the Ameo was released. Therefore we all knew what we were getting before we shelled out, even though we all held out hope that an official T-mobile WM6 upgrade would be available.
I'm quite happy to wait until CID unlocking has been cracked and an official WM6 ROM is available for the Dopod or Advantage version.
Let's face it people, we'll get there in the end anyway, wether they want us too or not.
CID is already available through imei-check, but they cant do it over-the-air. I emailed them about CID/SIM unlocking and this is their reply.....
Hello,
>>we can unlock it, but remote is not possible right now. If you want you can send the device to us for unlock. Special delivery is ok. The unlock is 20 GBP + 7 gbp to ship it back to you. Please send it to:
MIGsofT LTD FAO:Florin Mandache 19 Cowan Road Balloch Glasgow G68 9BX. Send just the handset + battery. >Regards, > >IMEI-CHECK Team >
I was very unsure sending the unit and needed reassurance so i replied.....
Thanks for your reply, but could you supply me with a contact number(landline) to help keep track of my unit, and so i can make payment by card. Your website doesn't contain any contact info which makes me a little uneasy.
And this is the reply i got back.....
Hello,
You can call me on my mobile : +44795*******.
The payment it will be done via paypal or direct bank deposit after we received the device and we unlocked it.
As you might guess, i'm still wary of sending it off so i guess i'll sit and wait until another option is available.
i was checking via STREETMAP, the postcode for imei-check (look at my post above) and i found this........http://www.myhouseprice.com/HousePr...imeframe=1&timeframemonth=99&timeframeyear=99
CHECK THE FIFTH HOUSE DOWN THE LIST! Its the same address and postcode for IMEI-CHECK, and it went up for sale on 23/03/07. Now i definately aint sending my unit through the post, to dodgy!

Excellent! I'm just down the road (for a certain value of "down the road", being a two hour drive but one I do frequently) from them.
Wonder if they'll do it whilst I wait

i agree with you here, T-mobile has never promise WM6 update, so if they decide not to offer it, it's no problem, you just need the CID tool, and you can install the DOPOD or HTC one.
Whilst i accept that we were never promised an upgrade i consider that most of the Ameo owners believed that an upgrade would be in the pipe line.
By using unauthorised upgrade methods are we not invalidating our warranties and risking the chance of removal of technical support from t-mobile?
Perhaps there are associated overhead costs for T-mobile with regard to supporting another operating system but there are already phones in their range that use wm6. We are not asking them to support *nix.
I rang t-mobile last week regarding a phone problem last week (unable to make/receive calls). i was told that nobody on their thd had an Ameo manual (in the end the problem was 3g network related rather than a fault with the phone).
To date T-mobile have no publicly available rom versions (at all) which leads me to think that they are not yet up to speed wrt support for this unit anyway.
I have been a T-mobile customer for 10 years and have been out of contract for the last 3 until selling my soul for 18 months to get this Ameo. T-mobile cannot provide me adequate support at the moment and HTC will not because it is not their phone.
At a minimum i cannot see why we can not be offered this upgrade as a gesture of goodwill.
If it is a question of HTC (or microsoft) charging too much for the upgrade then perhaps they should consider how few units would have been sold without the t-mobile branding/subsidy.
i for one would be happy to petition T-mobile and will put my money where my mouth is later this weekend and start a site for the petition.
Lips tightly zipped.
But don't worry.
That's all I'm saying.

If everyone thinks the same with you, then all T-mobile PDA user will be asking wm6 update (T-mobile MDA,MDA PRO.....). The things is it cost nothing to buy the upgrade, Microsft does not charge anything for it, but in order to publish the update, service provider will needs to run testing on it to make sure it's stable, it's nothing to do with HTC here as well, HTC offer the basic ROM, then T-mobile will needs to finish it, so it will takes them a while to make it stable, this is where you see the advantage of each different ROM, they are not all done by HTC, they are done by the service provider. And when you say WM6 device is already available on T-mobile, which one are you talking about? i don't seems to remember any of them.
Another important issue, you are going to see less and less HTC product on T-mobile, and any other provider too, HTC is now changing their company structure, they are trying to be like Nokia, so you won't see T-mobile mark or branding on HTC device in the future. So you already notice, T-mobile is the only one selling HTC advantage in UK, and it could be the last one, (or the very last few). In the future, you will see only HTC brand. So because of this, T-mobile has a very good reason not to be bother with WM6 update, i believe they are due to the end of the contract with HTC, and really, i don't think T-mobile care too much about Ameo, you don't see it advertise anywhere....
The bottom line is, even T-mobile release official WM6 update, i don't think it's going to be as stable as the DOPOD one or HTC one, they are already in the testing stage, and beta version will be release for tester next month. So all we need is the CID unlock, then you can choose the best ROM to upgrade.
Owners of the dash have been offered upgrades to wm6
And i go back to my point about not being offered support (understandably) for unauthorised upgrades. Surely if you know that the majority of owners of a particular phone are going to follow this path (ie unofficial upgrades) it will be cheaper (in the long run) to aid them and ensure that they have a phone that works. Otherwise you also run the risk of them blaming the network when it is in fact their phone that is not working.
With regard to your assertion that "t-mobile don't care about the ameo" the argument doesn't hold much water as it would imply that they don't care much about their customers- hence we return to the crux of this thread.
I cannot go out and buy a copy of wm6 and install it myself. if i purchased a copy of vista and discovered that it would not be possible to legitimately upgrade (purchase) to it's replacement (bar hardware issues) i would not purchase vista. It is now a given with phones of this form that we expect software/os improvements to compliment the hardware.
not every one is aware of these types of forums and would benefit from the upgrades and the ensuing improvements. It is through T-mobile that awareness would be increased (with the greatest respect to this site).
I do not doubt that you are more savy than me but if that implies an "i'm alright Jack" mentality then I personally prefer to be ignorant (it is after all blissful)
When sms was rolled out did you sit there and say "oh i don't expect to be able to use that because I signed up when vox was the only option"- i think not.

i understand your point there, but if you stand at the T-mobile side and think about it, then maybe you will understand if they decide not to offer wm6 update. It cost them time and money to release, it's pruely a bonus for T-mobile customer if they offer it. So do you think T-mobile MDA PRO should be offer WM6 as well? since it's the second most expensive PDA that T-mobile offer.
Anyway, what i am saying here is we are not suppose to flash un-official ROM, it has already bought this site trouble. I know lots of people (including me still do it anyway). I guess time will tell whether T-mobile will lunch WM6 update or not, but if they decide not to, don't be surprise, they have perfectly good reason for it.
Sorry WU
this was not intended to be a snipe at you but i believe in fair play and think that you are wrong.
with regard to a petition i will hold off given that Slave1 seems to know something and others respect his opinion, unless i am convinced otherwise

let's all hope the upgrade will comes out from T-mobile, yes you are right, i don't know about T-mobile, and i have no contact inside this company too, all I know is when i went to the 3GSM this year, they did say something about the WM6 update but they are not sure which machine to offer by that time.
So hopefully they will release it, if not, we just need to hope a CID tools then all Ameo user can then flash HTC, DOPOD rom.
I have been reading this forum for the last few days. And checking out what your guys are doing here. (I like it!) Now I have some question for some of the experts that will help me make the choice of selecting my new phone.
I have T-mobile USA an currently have a razr. Now I have been thinking of getting a ppc after reading some reviews and things like that I see the kiaser might be the best ppc availale.(This is what I get from reviews don't shoot me) at this time. But I'm not looking to spend that kind of money on a phone. Even though it is sim unlocked not cid unlocked according to reading here what the difference is.
1. Should I go with a T-mobile Wing or go for the HTC Herald? And what is the difference really between the two phones. One is branded the other is not. Or should I try for the next power house in line that would be an HTC Hermes (TYTN).
2 Now if I do that and choose one of the two unbranded phones. It's a possible chance that I will get one that doesn't have english Os (maybe buyng from ebay). And I would like to use the best Rom for that phone from here of course. I'm just thinking i don't want to brick the phone right away. So are there easy methods to cid unlocks on any of these 3 phones? I just listed so I won't have problems trying to flash to a new Rom. With branded or unbranded phone and english or non english Os? Really need help with this.
1. The herald is inevitably more expensive than the wing. if you like tmobile, i'd go with the wing. This is because its unlocked, no? Either way, eh. Anything unlocked will be more expensive.
2. Again, I wouldn't choose the unbranded unless you dont intend to use it with tmobile. Either way, you can call them and ask them to unlock it for you after a set amount of time. This sim-unlocks the phone. Now, for cid-unlocking, we have three choices- aserg's method, USPL, and Hard-SPL.
Aserg's was popular back in the heyday of Herald flashing. Nobody really uses it anymore
USPL writes a temporary SPL to the phone that allows it to be flashed.
Hard-CID replaces the phones SPL with a permanent one that can't be overwritten (i think).
IN conclusion, if you really want an unlocked phone, get a wing, wait 60 days, ask them for the unlock code, and unlock away. To flash a new rom, use USPL or Hard-CID. In the end, you end up with an unlocked phone with CID bypass capabilities.
If you had searched, you would have known that.
Ok let me be more specific here. I do appreciate the reply!
Now here is what I'm asking is the the unbranded Herald better than the T-mobile wing beside looks? (the wing is ugly looking compared to the herald) I will be using the phone on T-mobile service. I understand the price difference in the phone being locked or unlocked. And if so of going unbranded should I choose between Herald or Hermes? The unbranded phones would be sim unlocked not cid unlocked. As I understand and maybe have a different language firmware or Os other than english which I can't understand not bi-lingual. And the wing would be locked both ways but be in english already. If I was to cid unlock what is the most safest way to do so?
If your staying on Tmobile, get a wing. Theres no damn good reason not too. The difference between the two????? Color and I believe keyboard layout -- hence the idea of "rebranding." Same thing.
Get a Wing. Its prettier and unlocking it is a breeze.
People just love the deep, dark, almost pearlescent blue of my phone , as do I!
So there is no difference in the Herald or Wing. So what you are saying is leave the unbranded phones alone. Is the Hermes still a good phone to use unbranded on T-mobile service or just plain ol get the wing and call it a day and stop boggling my brain? I do appreciate the help guys Thanks.
try to find it here:
www.pdadb.net
and choose what you nee.....
IMO, I think that a PDA without a physical keyboard is almost pointless.
I know the basics of the phones. I was just asking for some hands on experience opinions. Best ppc hands down bang for the buck.
go for htc p4350..
my choice any day
Is there any particular reason you are saying go with the P4350? According to others as stated earlier they said go for the wing.
I'm partial to the Wing, but the Herald is just as good. I've seen the Wing selling on ebay for between 250.00 - 300.00 unlocked.
It's not about being lock or unlocked because what I plan on doing soon as I get the phone. I will flash it with a Rom from this site. So I'm looking to make sure I'm getting the best for the time being. Until I get an itch again for the upgrade bug. So here are my choices T-mobile wing, HTC Herald or HTC Hermes. And according to those here is that I would guess that the Wing being the most easiest to flash I assume???? But I'm looking for the best phone that I will be happy with a cool Rom from here with all the tweaks added.
This is to itje. Do you feel there are any huge differences between the p4350 and the wing? If you had any experience with both phone. Or are you saying this because you have a p4350?
Herald V/S Wing
Ok, let's make it very clear Herald and wing are the same exact thing, except one is unlocked and HTC branded while the other is made specifically for America and t-mobile branded. Now lets countdown the major differences good and bad.
The Wing-it's cheaper since it's made for american customers. It comes with Wm6 built in. Less expensive if bought locket with t-mobile. But it shoud'nt be a problem for you since you already have t-mobile.
Herald-Not made for american customers, so you have to buy it unlocked hence more expensive. COme with wm5 you have to manually upgrade to wm6. You get to register with HTC and reciev all the updates.
Bad stuff about having branded T-Mobile: it comes with Myfaves, this app takes up a ton of storage and program meory, hate htis s**t.
So these were the differences in Herald and the wing.
but if you do chose to go unlocked then the question is Tytn V/S Herald V/S Tytn II right. As you know the tilt or tytn ii is the best and the most powerfull phone on the market, but as you mentioned before it's expensive, really really expensive. But depends on how much you want to spend ATT sells it locked for $550, plus unlocking charge. If you want to specifically buy tytn 2 then it's like 600 to 700 dollars.
Now Herald v/s Hermes. Herald is slimmer and lighter than Hermes. Arguably better looking too. But the Hermes has a 400mhz procceser while herald only has 200 mhz. Hermes also has a second camera for video call(the American version dosen't have it) the herald dosen't. And finally Hermes also has 3g, the herald dosen't. But you won't be able to use 3G since T_Mobile USA, dosen't support it. I hope this answers all your questions. Tell me if it dosent.
hi guys,i'm new to android and htc and xda too.previously i didnt had any android device so im not familiar with it.also i live in Nepal and they dont have htc in nepal....only nokias ,samsungs,SE and all..and yes ive read this forum for about 1 months now
now my brother in US is willing to send me a cell phone.
he is no tech guy so i think he will take a cell phone from tmobile subsidized and send it to me and buy any cheap cell phone in ebay for his use
also i love modding my device to use it to its full potential(i am familiar with rockbox for modding my mp3 players)
so guys here are my few questions on nexus one:
1>ill be getting it rooted the day it comes to my hand .but ive read somewhere that rooting might cause wifi problems..is it true??also majority of people have rooted their nexus here....so is there any problem??
2>the most important....i read that many of people had to deal bad costumer support for replacement...BUT why are they replacing their about-1-month-old phone??does it have common problems??
3>i think it is unlocked...but heard that we need a t mobile dataplan for activating the device for the first time.is this true?here in nepal no 3g..only gprs hehe.so will activate from nepal??is there anything else that might stop me from using this device here
as my brother will have to ship the phone to nepal and after that for me the warranty is void. because i have to pay around 150$ to send it back to US for repairs or replacements.so i need a solid phone with no major issues(i can live with the dust on the screen scenario and i may be able to open it and clean myself)BUT i cannot repair a non functional wifi here.
so the question is...
4>should i go with nexus one with 1ghz and lots of feature or buy a mytouch 3g fender LE(the only point considering it is it has 32a board and i play Drums hehe).help me guys.....
5>what is the price difference of mytouch3g le and nexus one in reality?....my brother quiet stupid so he may end up buying a 530$ phone for 1000$ with 2 yr contact(including 2 yr monthly charge too).i want to prevent it ...with contract they are both about 180$ i guess.
could someone explain this to me??
Rooting will not effect your WiFi. You can activate it without a tmo data plan as long as you buy the unlocked version for $530 from google. The dust issue is an easy fix if you catch it early, and not as wide spread as it seems, but worth checking out.
As for price difference, not much really when buying unlocked. Get the N1, you will be much happier!
Welcome to XDA...Read, Research & Search this Nexus section for all the good scoop! Then U make up your mind if you want to have the best device or not
cant i use the subsidized set in other networks??i heard ALL nexus are unlocked
Hi all,
I will recieve my first Android handset tomorrow (HTC Hero) and plan to use it until Autumn (Windows Phone 7 looks very appealing and I didn't spend much on this handset, it's not even on a contract). I am looking for some tips and advice on Android.
I was very well accustomed to Windows Mobile at one point, and very active on this site, but then stopped altogether - so I'm not a novice to flashing (I know what this could be seen to mean!).
I plan to read through various short guides over the next couple of days, before flashing a new ROM on my Hero tomorrow night. I intend to become as good (i.e. knowledgable) with Android as I can, in the next few months.
Is there anything I should know, read or look into/look out for?
Should I update the radio (is there a wiki entry on here for that?)
And recommened apps or ROMS and why?
Any general advice?
P.S. Will I regret buying the black version of the Hero? Is it a good choice?

I popped into T-Mobile the other day and got myself an HTC Hero G2 and I like it, very customizable and you probably won't regret it. Depends how much you spend on the device cost wise because remember you will be going into a contract.

No contract for me. I paid around £165 for it ('virtually brand new, in perfect condition') and I've got T-Mobile's SIM only deal (30 day rolling contracts, basically). 100 minutes, 100 texts, unlimited internet for £10 - brilliant! I'll get the £15 tariff if I find 100 minutes isn't enough, but I use Skype, Google Voice and just email a lot.
£165,.. Thats a v-good price if its in mint condition!!... I paid £230 Less than a week ago and i thought that was good.
In regards to ROMs,... I flashed the latest Modaco ROM to mine the day it was delivered, it seemed abit smoother than the stock Orange ROM that was on it when i had no apps installed, but now iv loaded it up there is a tiny bit of lag, like a nano second, its hardly noticeable at all.
But there are so many ROMS to choose from, I think just swapping and changing between them till you find one that suits you is the best bet, but its not something I have the time (or patience) for. This is what i followed to update the ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 - [Guide] How to Root & Install a Custom Rom on Orange UK & T-Mobile UK [Updated 13/03]
As for the Radio update, definately do it. Im using a handset that is locked to Orange UK but using an O2 sim in it with a rebel sim. On the first day I only had 2 bars of reception most of the time, sometimes it went to 3 bars but not often. Since updating, it has consistantly been on 3 or 4 bars.
Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646465 (- Radio update advice please?...) about how to go about updating it.
As for apps, there are too many to go through, I'v just been googleing 'Best Android Apps' and seeing which ones will benefit me.
And lastly,.. Hellllll Nooooooo,... You definately wont regret buying one. IMO the white version looks abit more slick and has a teflon coating to stop it getting dirty but how dirty can a black (or graphite in my case) phone get?...
Im happy!
