Hi everyone,
I have having a terrible battery performance for my mini. It seems that just after 2 hours, the battery level drops from 100% to about 80% . Any idea why? :?
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!
Try to look in Start/Settings/System/Memory ---running programs...you may have some programs running and consuming battery. If U have Pocket hack master it drawn the battery very fast if overclocked and installed!

Primoz
Hi Primoz
Thanks for the info. But on my previous device XDA IIs, even with the applications running, the battery life was still ok.
Sigh... perhaps my batt is a lemon... so far it has only lasted 1 day with a full charge!!!
Hmmm...strange, if the I-mate is new try to replace the battery...cause for me the battery life is about 2 days...in average. If not used much 3-4 days.
Regards,
Primoz
Hmm, perhaps an investigation is in order :?: :
Did you leave your beam receive on?
Are you using bluetooth?
What programs are running, especially today screen plugins?
Hi,
nope, bluetooth is off, IR is off however, I left the SD Card in the slot all the time.
I have also made sure there are no today screen plugins and also programs running in the background.
I just checked.... 1 hour, the battery level drops by 6 %
This is terrible. I am using XDA II mini... don't seem to see this problem with i-Mates and others though...
anyone with XDA II mini care to comment?
Perhaps it's because your battery is still new. On average, batteries have full capacity and stamina after 10-20 cycles of full charge-full discharge.
Make sure:
Backlight is on low setting.
Bluetooth is off.
Infrared is off.
Power off after x minutes.
Backlight off after x minutes.
I have only had my XDA Mini for 8 days now and my battery life is much better than that.
The phone and PIM gets a good going over during a business day and then a couple hours of WiFi in the evening when i get home and i have never had the battery drop below 30%.
My XDA II used to be flat by the end of the day.
The difference is now that i charge the unit for 7 hours during the evenings as opposed to the XDA II sitting in the craddle during the day.
I have finally given up on charging and recharging the battery. I just sent my mini for servicing yesterday. Apparently, the service folks also think that the poor performance of the batt is due to a faulty power regulator.
Anyways, I was quite disappointed that I got a lemon. They promised me my device back by Friday or Sat.
Will update again on the batt performance once I get it back.... :?
Hello!
I have the same problem and if you know where the problem came from i would be very interesting , to know if i have to send it to repair too or if there is another solution!
Thanks
how do you turn IR off?
To turn of IR....
Start>Settings>Connections>Beam
Uncheck the box which says receive all incoming beams.

Hmm...strange, because I have read somewhere (don`t remember where) thah if the Receiving beam box is checked it "helps" the battery to last longer... :?

I just got back my set from the O2 repair center in Singapore. The service tech said that there wasn't any problem and the battery drain is at an ACCEPTABLE rate!
I am still getting the poor battery performance. I can only last 10 hrs max without USING my PDA. I did not even use the PDA function extensively ( at most 20 mins) and did not even use the phone.... yes, all the applications were stopped and even disabled the IR.
I escalated this issue to O2 and they told me that they will check with the tech about the set....
This is terrible!!!! :x .....
Anyone else with this problem? I suspect that this is an hardware / battery issue.
Sigh... hope that O2 can do something about!
to mod: sorry about making noise about this.... but I had to let it out of my chest!
Anyone else with this issue....???

Maybe try the backup and hardreset route? Must be something in your settings that's draining the battery.
If I can tell my experience...I never mind if battery is full of charge or it is down...'couse whenever I can, I always connect my S100 to USB for recharging...
Uhm...Do I wrong?
I guess for my type of usage, it is unacceptable to always plug it into the charger.
This is because I am on the move most of the time and once I leave my office in the morning, I would not return home till sometime at night. Need the set to last at least 24 hours!
Sigh... anyone has ideas for a workaround?
I've been looking for an additional battery... where to get one?
Is this particular to O2 sets? Cos I have not been seeing compliants with other vendors iMate, T-Mobile etc..
I have the same problem and have try all software solution(differents roms)!!I will send it to repair and hope i will be more lucky than you.
Wish you all the best too! If you do get it fixed, please let me know so that I can do something about it rather than having to deal with O2!
I am getting quite impatient with them for giving me the runaround!
Hi All - Did a search but couldn't find much about any 'battery life' problems with this device.
I'm experiencing poor battery life on my new XDA IIi. This is my second machine (o2 replaced the forst one due to poor battery lifery life and dead pixels on screen)
I just wondered what others are experiencing...I tend to have the phone switched from 8am til 6pm. The signal strength is good and I have wifi and bluetooth turned off.
Here is a typical set of figures for the battery through the course of my typical day
8am 100%
9am 84%
10am 75%
11am 61%
12am 50%
1pm 41%
2pm 32%
3pm 19%
4pm 11%
5pm 6%
6pm 3%
O2 say that the battery is at fault...but they've changed the battery twice and the unit once, and it's much the same. My guess is that something is draining the battery, but there's nothing special about my set up as far as I know. it's running a 1 gig SD card...but I took that out to see if it made a difference - it doesn't
Even with the phone switched OFF for extended periods of time, the battery doesn't seem to survive the day - I certainly cannot get to 8pm in the evening without having to charge it up.
I just wonder if the behaviour is fairly normal! If someone else out there is able to offer me some advice, or better still, some comparable figures, that would be helpful - just so I know it's not just me!!! ))
Alternatively has any one got any suggestiosn as to what might be draining the battery? (I'm always in a strong signal area for the phone)
Thanks
Hi I also have an XDAIIi.
My battery seems to be a lot more stronger than yours :?
If I don't use my XDAIIi at all, it can last about 4 days on standby, by this I mean phone on, wi-fi and bluetooth off. I have installed a LOT of applications on it and nothing seems to drain the battery.
My backlight is on full, my SD Card is always in.
If I use the phone say for about 30 minutes every night, then it lasts for about 3 days, still as the set-up above.
I find that if I am constantly using it, it will last about a day.
I am probably being pedantic, but as you probably know, rechagable batteries, in particular Li-Ion. Then they benefit from being run-down completely and leaving dis-charged for about 12 hours, then trying to turn them on again, (i.e. soft re-set) and then leaving them to turn off (almost instantly) Then whilst the XDAIIi is in it's "dead state" put it on charge using the mains charger and leaving it charging for about 3-4 hours. Then take it off charge and turn it on again.
Batteries don't like being half charged then run down a little then charger again.
Also the complete run-down time of a battery will only reach it's fullest after a couple of run-down and full re-charges.
This is what I do.
Hope it helps.
lydiachris
ps. the strenth of your signal should not make any difference. I am also in a strong signal area.
Battery...
Wow! Yours seems much better than mine with batteries. I just can't figure out what's wrong here and its very frsustrating - new battery..new XDA2i seems to make no difference, so it MUST be something I'm running...but there's nothing running in the background at all...very strange
Thanks anyway..at least I know it IS possible to get better battery life
S
Just out of interest, what mAh is your battery which came with your XDAIIi.
Mine is the standard 1300mAh
Lydiachris
ps. write me a list of what software you are running.
pps. Kettering??? Very near me Peterborough!!!
Battery woes...
MIne came with a 1300...but I bought a spare via the O2 shop that came with a 1200 :?:
I've got hundreds of progs on the XDA. Do you mean a list of ones that are running on startup?
Thanks
PS USed to live in Werrington!
do you have bluetooth or wifi or both turned on all day ?
is the pda on all the time or off and only the phone on ?
is gprs turned on all day ?
IR is it set to recieve all incomming beams?
how long before the backlight turn itself off ?
how bright is the backlight set to be ?
many many factors
Battery troubles
do you have bluetooth or wifi or both turned on all day ?
Both OFF
is the pda on all the time or off and only the phone on ?
Phone scheduled to be ON between 9 and 7pm
is gprs turned on all day ?
..Nope
IR is it set to recieve all incomming beams?
..Nope it's Off
how long before the backlight turn itself off ?
..1 minute
how bright is the backlight set to be ?
..about as low as it can go
As you can see, I've switched OFF most things to get drainage down to a minimum. As this is my SECOND device (o2 replaced the first one - same problem) and I'm trying out a second battery...my deduction is that it *MUST* be software related. I may be wrong and I'm hoping someone can point me in a different/new direction
I had a lot of hair when I bough this device - now I've very little left
Make sure lock all buttons is engaged, second set turn lcd off after 30 sec, third turn off device after 1 minute and you should be dialed in. If this does not work, preform a hard reset then repeat process. Do not install any additional apps/progs! Now if it works try installing one proggy at a time and test the device. It is most likley that there is a program running a daemon that is killing your XDA-IIi
Mikee
One more note. If you do a hard reset, which if I where you, I would, pay attention to the setup screen on the hard reset. When you see the O2 personal user corporate user screen, preform a soft reset with your stylus immediately! Then you will not get the O2 garbage and Icons.

Thanks Mikee
Hi Mikee
Thanks for your advice. I'm a little uinlcelar how a hard reset will help. This is NEW machine, I only got it last week. How does a HARD reset help the bettery management?
Make sure lock all buttons is engaged,
Done
second set turn lcd off after 30 sec,
Done
third turn off device after 1 minute
Already switches off after a minute
and you should be dialed in.
ehhh?
not sure what you mean

There is a fault with your device - under Consumer Service Guarentee you can return and have it replaced immediately as these goods are definetly NOT fit for purpose.
Mind you, you should hard-reset and double-check, but I'd say you've got a lemon flavour there.
Tkae heart, if you're the only one then it should be easy to fix!
My XDA ws the same when i first got it ... i'd deffo agree that the battery needs to be "optimised"
after a week or so you should notice a difference.
Heavy use of mine, ie listening to ,mp3s all day will take it down to about 15% (9 till 4 ish)
I have WIFI , bluetooth off
screen to the lowest brightness
power off after 30 seconds
[edit]
I just thought ..... You dont have the "Turbo mode" on do you ?
Battery on XDAIIi
Hi Guys - Thanks for your advice. What I find hard to believe is that this is the SECOND device where the battery life is c***. All my instincts tell me it's NOT the device - this is the second one they've sent me - nor the battery (as I'm now on my THIRD one)
I really want to avoid a hard reset because of the time taken to reinstal everything afterwards. I lead a very busy business life :? , and I just don't have the time to 'start from scratch'
...but I guess I will, if enough people tell me a hard reset will sort it
i did a hard reset but it didnt make a difference and when i spoke to 02 they were very quick to exchange it and when i spoke to the guy he said i should expect it to crash every so often like windows does on a computer i disagreed with this abd explained my xda2sw didnt crash like this one did.
regards kevin
stevep, in that case why don't u just make a complete backup of ur IIi, then perform a hard reset..
Sometimes the apps installed are the cause.. Also take note that switching to 'Turbo Mode' all the time will drain the batt pretty fast..
Battery drain - hard reset
Thanks for your reply - it's appreciated...but I don't understand how a hard reset helps. Yes, I can back it all and restore it, but surely that'll just put the problem back on the XDA (if it's an app thats causing the drain)
Can anyone explain (from a techy point of view) how a hard reset MIGHT corrrect the battery drain problem
Have you checked your turbo button under start, settings, power and then the processor speed? if you set it on turbo, it will eat up the battery VERY FAST. If else, I am using one and I am Happy with the battery life.
I've actually tested it with turbo 'on' and 'off' and I didn't notice much difference either way. It's actually on 'standard' currently

Hello,
I need your help with the following problem:
I have been using my Jasjar for 5 days now and I have a problem with the battery.
As soon as it gets to 35-40% battery power the unit switches off without any notice.
The only way I can turn it on again if I put it on a charger, and than it turns on again like after a soft reset.
I installed the latest ROM from the clubimate but none 3rd party applications.
Please let me know what can be this problem.
Thanks,
Zsolt
same problem here
Hi Ronaldovic,
Have you tried with another battery or just the original?
I was advised to change the original battery as that might be faulty but I couldn't get a new one yet.
Zsolt
For the O2 XDA Exec the battery has a 6 month warranty. You should check the situation with the JJ
battery issues..
I had similar issue and also where on switch on the screen light goes off and back on. This seems to be linked to battery chargin "top-ups" therefore sometimes the supply from the battery is not continously smooth. Try fully draining your battery and charging fully
I have same problem with my Exec. Any solution ??
I buy new battery but...when it gets to 25%, still switch off. So I dont think it's error of battery, may be it's bug of ROM for Exec???

1 month ago I have same problem. I think is not battery.
I make upgrade by all the ROM (JAS JAR, QTEQ, MDA PRO ecc.) but the problem I have not resolution, and 2 week ago my pda (MDA PRO T-Mobile) go in htc warranty.
Sorry for my bad english.
I have also noticed this problem a few days back. My Jasjar switches itself Off when the battery goes down to 22%.
I never used to have this problem when my Jasjar was with the original factory installed ROM version which was 1.13.53 WWE, Radio 1.03, ExtRom 1.13.137 WWE. When this ROM was installed I used to get the first low battery alarm at 20% and when the battery went down to 10% the screen would dim out and the SD card would deactivate, but still the unit would not shut itself out.
I installed the updated ROM when it became available in March which is 1.30.76, Radio 1.09.00 and ExtRom 1.30.164 WWE.
I am not too sure if the problem is linked with this ROM as I usually never allow my battery to run that low. However a few days back when I forgot to charge my battery I noticed this problem. I repeated this deliberately a number of times and each time the Jasjar shuts itself off exactly at 22%.
Just wondering if there are any solutions yet.
Regards
Same here, device just dies @ 26%. Was going to buy a new battery, but that might not resolve it?? *sigh*
RE
This battery issue has been discussed in two other similar threads.
In my case I just changed the default battery to a OEM one and everything works fine
Isn't the default battery an OEM battery? I'm tempted to buy one of the 1750 mAh batteries off of ebay (original JasJar battery is 1650 mAh) - is that a bad idea?
Try overnight charging of the battery for one or two days..this will solve yr problems...
Hi,
hard reset to your device, don't forget to get backup contacts, sms and data.
battery issue
I've had similar issues. Screen goes blank when battery low, plug in to charger and all is ok. What I've found is sometimes, not always, the battery screen brightness has gone to 0, but on-mains is set for full brightness. I never changed it, so maybe the device is trying to save power itself.
MNB.
Same here. My Jasjar dies sometimes when the battery is on 60%, 50%, 30%, 20%. etc. If I use the internet or camera or something then it will go dead, but not everytime.
Sometimes I can use anything and it will last till about 10% when the SD Card disables, then I charge it.
Don't know what to do. I don't want to buy a new battery if I'm not sure that is the problem.
Yes the same on my O2 Exec. Crashes at around 32% no matter what. Only remedy is to put it on charging again.
This started after I upgraded to the lastest O2 Rom; prior to that there was no problem whatsoever and I could go down to single digit battery percentages without any issue.
Is it the new ROM? Is there any work around to this malady?
Thanks to all who reply, in advance.
Cheers.

So can we say that downgrading does not fix it, or removing certain software combinations?
has anyone actually proved that replacing the battery works or not?
With the issue this widespread (and across carriers) has anyone tried to contact HTC about this? I still have my doubts that this is ROM related, seems more likely to me that many of the initial batch of batteries have gone bad.
My battery is on order with expansy. Expect it in the next 4 to 5 days and will definitely let you all know of my experience with the new battery
Regards
I have an XDA Exec and I have just upgraded my ROM to the newest QTEK version. Since then, I have noticed that it crashes and reboots when the power level showing on the power meter reaches about 25%. I don't believe this problem was occurring before the ROM upgrade.
Although it stops working when 25% power is showing, I do not think that the battery life is actually reduced at all. It seems to me that it is more like the guage is inaccurate now and the power is really near zero when it crashes.
I wondered if the power guage needs recalibrating in some manner after the ROM upgrade because the settings have been lost. I know that some laptop computers need their batteries to be calibrated on first use. Does anyone have any ideas or information on this?
Thanks
Mark
Mark,
did you ever solve this issue? I have the same problem. Thanks for anyone's help.
Have only just noticed but im having the same problem to so annoying
Bad news, I am afraid. It is a harware fault and needs a repair.
In the end I returned my Exec to O2 under warranty. I got it back last week but they had forgotten to return the battery. After a phone call they sent me a free brand new battery by next day delivery.
Unfortunatelyt this means that I can't say for sure whether it was a battery problem or the phone itself. The covering letter with the phone said they had found a fault and repaired the phone, but since it seemed to be a stock letter, I can't be sure.
Anyway, my Exec certainly works fine now. I can get down to less than 10% with no crashes. I definitely did not have anything to do with the ROM upgrade.

Mark,
Thanks for the reply. That was not what I wanted to hear! I am going to continue playing around with it; I can't believe we're the only ones to have this problem. Let me know if you get any more news. I'm getting tired of sending the HTC in for repairs.
i-mate crashes with battery in less then 43%
My i-mate continues to crashes with the battery is less then 43%, apparently the problem occurred when I make the upgrade to ROM Qtek WWE_13077_130176_10900, was looked like that this version has something that change the battery configuration, since Qtek 9000 comes with 1750 battery mAh? I reinstalled the i-mate ROM 1.30.82 and the problem persists?
I made a test leaving the i-mate on, without using the radio until the battery settings showed 23%, then I made a phone call, the i-mate crashes in seconds. Somebody could inform what is the true voltage of the battery in the i-mate when it is 100% and when it is 10%, at the Main Battery settings?
Battery problem...u ccan verify this by using a differrent one may b from yr friend...
I have the same problem, its only started happening after the ROM upgrade from o2, before it would run down to 0% no problem but now it gets to 25% crashes and i have to reboot it and turn the backlight of otherwise it crashes again. Are you sure its a battery problem because ive had the same battery for 6 months and the problem only started after the upgrade.
Thanks to all of you guys for adding comments. Good to see others with the same problem. Misery loves company.
Anyhow, I can't exactly say my problems started with a ROM upgrade. I have two used universals. Here's my story:
PDA#1. Upgraded with previous Orange ROM as soon as I bought it and started having the 25% crashing problem
PDA#2. Never had crashing problem, upgraded latest Orange ROM, down to nearly dead battery today and no crash.
Hmm, to test the bad battery theory, I will swap the battery in PDA#1 with the battery in PDA #2, and if I get a crash, I can blame it on the battery. Otherwise, it's the OS. Both PDAs have EXACTLY the same programs installed from fresh ROM upgrades.
Battery test
Hi PDAholic.
Which was the result of the test with the battery.
Hi
See my previous post in this topic. I can confirm that my problem seemed to start when I upgraded to the newest QTek ROM (from original O2 ROM). However after it has been returned to O2 for a repair, I have once again upgraded to the same ROM and now it works fine.
So, it must ether be a hardware fault on the Exec or a battery fault. My evidence is not consistent with it being something to do with the ROM version.
Anyone have definitive information on this problem?
Mark
Mark: I thank you for your post--but you have to admit, there is nothing wrong with a little experimentation!
Josedias: My experiment is still underway. I will say that taking out the nearly dead battery from non-crashing pda and putting it into the crashing pda did not result in the latter pda crashing. However, I am now waiting for the battery from crashing pda (which is now in non-crashing pda) to die. If it does, the problem is the battery. I actually have another theory if none of this pans out, which I will present with my next post.
Pdahollic
Will be good to hear what your fndings are.
I spoke to o2 today and told them about the problem with the battery they tried telling me that it was software related then i told him that i was using the latest software from there website and he was like hmmm ok let me put you through to returns. Got put through and the kind person that i spoke to there said just to pop it in the post with the returns number and will send you out a new one the same day.
So i should hopefully have a new 1 by the end of the week will let you know if i have any problems
Okay, interesting results here...
I was actually unable to reproduce the shutdown on either PDA, with either battery!
I have a theory why, and perhaps those of you with the problem could try and see if it fixes your devices.
When I started the experiment, I wanted both PDAs to be as equal (controlled variables!) as possible. So, I charged both overnight until the green light came on, then did a soft reset to both PDAs. I have a feeling this might have somehow reset the battery meters in both devices.
Pretty much all PDA manufacturers recommend when you first get a device to charge it to 100% then begin using it. I do know that when I did the ROM upgrade on the device that kept crashing, my battery was very low. So, I presume that when I started using the device, the battery calibration was way off. Say that the device thought the battery was at 100%, but it was actually only at 75%. When the battery discharged to 0%, the device thought it was at 25%, and thus did not issue any warning messages. Then, without warning, the device died and would not come on without charging (which is what mine did).
I don't know for sure if this is what has been happening, but it makes sense to me.
My next experiment would be to stick a near dead battery in a device with a fully charged battery and see what happens. Although, at this point I probably "ought to leave well enough alone."
Again, I suggest to all of you to charge the device overnight to 100% WITH THE GREEN LIGHT ON, then do a soft reset and see if your problem is solved.
I will keep you guys posted on any further problems. Good luck.
Hi everyone!
A bit out of topic but I could not find any other discusion that could relate to my problem which is also related to battery.
I've got this guy who bought a brand spankin new XDA EXEC straight from Taiwan and the lame ass used it for about 4 hours without preformating the battery until it seized on him. It happend at the time of Active Sync instalation.
It did not die out sooner because he had it connected all the time to PC via USB cable thinking that this will charge the battery.
Now all he can see is the O2 welcoming screen and the ROM initialization figures.
Any ideas guys? I feel sorry for him and am trying to help him somehow.
I presume he has tried to do a hard reset (both softkeys, reset button and power). If that doesn't work, he could put it in bootloader mode, disable USB, and try reloading the ROM. Make sure he realizes that it takes a LONG time to soft reset the Universals. A common nube mistake is to keep hitting the reset button thinking it has locked up on the splash screen. Not that I would ever have done that...
I received a T-Mobile MDA Pro on tuesday and it has the same problem - but, my battery seems to die at 50% and will only power back on when the charger is plugged (mains or usb) in?
Hi guys ive just been on the phone with o2 and i have been told that it is indeed a hardware fault and that i will be getting a new one back from them in the next few days.
Qtek 13077 ROM ????
Could somebody inform what is the true voltage of the battery in the i-mate at 100% and when it is 10%, in the miter?
I have charged the unit till 100% led = Green, then soft reset, the problem persist?
Now I am 100% certainty that the problem occurred when I made upgrade to Qteck, we needs to investigate what the the Qtek ROM this doing with the JasJar?
Hello guys... I have a problem in my O2 mini. every time the battery indicator goes 50%, my O2 mini shuts down, and I need to recharge the battery again to at least greater than 50% to turn it on. Can somebody tell me whats wrong? could it be the battery ? I already performed hard reset but still the same phenomenon occurs over and over again.... Meaning I could only use my O2 mini as half the time as the usual xda mini... Kindly help me please...
I had the same problem. My device started shutting down below 70%, so I knew it had something to do with the battery.
I replaced the battery and now I can still make calls at 4%!!
Try installing a new battery and see if it works..
Good luck..
ITS A MIRACLE!!! no father... its Coat Saver
Its just so mysterious... I was charging my xda 2 mini thru pc usb.. suddenly there was a blackout of power ... then it turned on again... i checked my mini... its not charging but the thing is...... it can now be operated below 50% ... it doesnt shuts down below 50% anymore... WHAT A MIRACLE!!!!
Same problem with mine, below somewhere around 50% puff!! Maybe it's the hardware battery indicator that is stuck and returns values fairly optimistic about the drownage of the battery.. and maybe traumatise it like joysonx had done would make it right. Who knows!!
same to mine
me too, mine can't work below 60%.
Maybe I should try joysonx methode to shocked the battery.
Cross ur finger hopes it work.
