Hello! all my first post to this forum though another attempt floats in the ether of the internet.
A HTC Wizard, Irish vodafone & picture messaging is it possible?
I have contacted Vodafone Ireland. I have read many forums, Pages and pages on lokiwiz, I have not found where they describe what the phone should be able to do after unlocking. Taking it, that an unlocked phone will not complain when a non assigned providers sim card is put into the phone, (ie a vodafone sim card being put into an unlocked phone that was previously O2 will at least allow calls to be made through the vodafone system). O2 coverage is lacking outside of major towns changing, operator is not an option.
Vodafone & Carphone warehouse say it is not possible to utilize a phone to its fullest unless the mobile operator supports the phone. Is this true? some forums seem to support this.
I can't send picture messages or emails, is it possible to do so with Vodafone Ireland and an unlocked HTC Wizard?
Sending pictures to my mac and others is important to me. It won't save images, word docs or text to the SD card so I can't transfer that way.
I do enjoy being able to write texts and notes as I would on my pda (block recognition). I know Missing Sync' and 'PocketMac' are purchasable to encourage the HTC Wizard communicate with a Macintosh.
Do I keep this phone/ pda? Are there work arounds to getting it to send pictures by email or mms? I'm a mac user I like things to work, simply
I look forward to reading your advice, Thank you

no not tonight Josephine
Thank you! That's what I thought similar enquires elsewhere and elsewhen received no replys either.
My browsers (Safari, iCab, Opera, Firefox) are not fully compatible with www.htc.com. and I have wasted too much time and phone calls trying to get the answer.
Though the links below might be of use to others.

why you would think that you cannot use your phone with vodafone ireland and picture messaging?
Have you rang vodafone and asked if you have picture messaging enabled?
Could you send pictures and receive them on another phone? With the same sim card
All you need to do is state what rom you are using and then i can tell you how to enter the correct mms settings and then you will be able to receive and send picture messages , not hard at all to be honest, as long as you have MMS enabled with vodafone. I use O2 and Orange myself and have no problems

Hi all,
This topic started in 'general' but would be better placed here. If anyone has any more input please reply here - I think this is currently the biggest problem with the out-the-box v1605.

I sent an email to HTC today and they told me there is no update...
This is still an issue
It apparently seems that the problem is only for Vodafone or Vodafone Group (SFR for example) users.
Any update on this issue ? This is really annoying....
Nothing I have heard yet. Apparently 242 mail notification works - but to sign up for this you have to get a code sent as SMS - and guess what - this SMS never turns up too!!!
R
I upgraded to the new HTC ROM but this has made no difference to the voicemail SMS issue
R
You can register at http://www.vodafone.net where you can set your alerts to be delivered by SMS. You need to enter your phone number for it to send a service SMS containing a passcode to, so you need to have your SIM a phone that you can get them on, ie not your v1605!! Once you've done that, you can put your SIM back into your v1605 and you'll then get SMS alerts for your voicemails and even the little answerphone icon in your top bar!!

I have finally taken this to the step of raising a technical ticket with Vodafone. After 3 days they came back to me saying it was definately the v1605 handset However, in order to try everything they are replacing my 5 year old SIM with a new one to see if that helps.
Hopefully this will at least solvev the problem of the vodafone,et registration SMS messsages not making it to my SIM no matter what phone it is on. At least then I can move to 242 instead....

as Matho indicates above, i have the v1605 as well as the Tytn and i have subscribed to 242 which now gives me voicemail text and icon.....
follow my thread indicated above, it's not the sim, it's the way the hermes variants handle the 'silent' sms texts that vodafone use for voicemail on their older 121 service
with 242 you can still even dial 121 from home or abroad and still pick up the same messages!! the voicemail icon and text service on 242 is much better than text or (annoying) dial every 3 seconds with vodafone 121
This is driving me mad - could not get the vodafone.net registration to work (it never delivers the autentication SMS) and my 121 has now also stopped 'alerting and delivering'. Vodafone sent me a new SIM but this has had no affect. I have tried the new SIM in a K750i but nothing. However, put my other (personal) vodafone SIM in my TyTN and I get the authentication SMS through straight away??? Could this be something to do with my main number being a business number and not a personal one?

I know it will not help, but my vodafone sim was also a business one and it worked 1st time
I haven't looked, but is there a way to repeat the signup process by selecting a 'forgotten password' option on the vodafone.net site? then put the sim into your k750 just at the point that the site sends out the sms confirmation.....I used a windows smartphone to get my sms so if you can get it on that I am sure the k750 will !
I hope you can get it work, it is a fantastic service
The problem is the same with all operators, it is a problem on the ROM. The only solution will be a ROM upgrade...
Suddenly at 22:00 last night I had 7 SMS messages come through - each with their own authentication string!!! Some 10 hours after my first attempt of the day. I went back to vodafone.net and registered again - worked first time. I am not ure if Vodafone did anything or maybe my new SIM neeed some time????
ALSO - it worked using the TyTN to recieve the authentication SMS - did NOT have to use another phone! I now have SMS notification and the *new* voicemail icon - excellent!
Rich (much happier)
Most excellent advice !
Subscribed last night and get text messages and the voicemail icon, even when roaming abroad now too !
Thanks all.
Just to add my two-pence worth to this subject.
I've just spent ages trying to sort out this problem!
I've got a v1605 on vodafone.....
I signed up to www.vodafone.net email, fax and voicemail facility (and managed to get the security SMS through ok) and all was looking good with my new mail/voicebox until I left myself a voicemail.
I got a SMS through saying I had a new voicemail to listen to, and the little O_O......I phoned 242 (or hit dial on the popup message), and was told I had no new messages  - and as previous people have said the notification O_O wouldn't go away!!
As I soon discovered, dialing 242 on my mobile wasn't going through to the new service, it was going through to my old voicemail. If I dial my new voicemail box number (0788... number which I was given when signing up to vodafone.net) and press 9, and enter my PIN, I was taken through to the CORRECT mailbox, which had my message in it. After I heard that, the notification icon on the phone disappeared.
So for some reason dialing 242 isn't going through to the correct mailbox....I'm wondering whether this is something which will take a few hours to resolve.
I'll try again tomorrow, but if anyone has a solution let me know
Cheers people
you need to change the default number in the phone options.
goto phone, options, services, voicemail, get settings
in the voicemail box, I had 121 and still have but it seems to go through fine if it is on 242.......
each vodafone customer has a unique mobile number for answermachine but we can all access via 121 or 242....it was designed to use abroad when 121 was not always available, but most countries now support the use of 121 / 242
but, you may have noticed when you signed up at vodafone.net that you were given a new answer number (i think you can check it on the log in page).....if you are travelling where you can't get 121/242 or simply you have got used to entering your pin, put the new number in the voicemail settigs box in the phone app
hope it helps!
I updated my voicemail number to 242 in the phone settings.
I just tried 242 again, and it still goes through to the OLD 121 voicemail.
Hi Guys, i do not have a vodafone subscription so i don't have your problem. But i know there is some feature in wm5 where you can use incoming sms messages that meet given filter criteria to trigger a send/receive for an email account and collect your mail. thus an sms notification for new mail can be used to create a form of pushmail. if the sms message meets the filter criteria, you will never see the sms message. it just starts silently to get your email
on this link http://www-rocq.inria.fr/who/Arnaud.Porterie/projects/PushMail/
you will find a program that can make these settings. Could it be the case that on your phones this sms filter is activated by default for sms messages coming from your voicemail number but with no action attached to is. this could explain why messages vapourize
if this is the case perhaps you could switch this feature of with the program in the attachted link.
I have managed to get the Voicemail SMS Alerts to work.
I followed the link and regsitered and i recieved the sms with the code on my Voda Tytn and it did say it will take upto 24 hours.
I tested it and left a VM and it still did not work.
As i had errors, i ended up reflashing my phone again with the latest dopod version and did not modify the extended rom.
as soon as it booted up, i got the alert and it seems to working fine now.
I also managed to get all the Vodafone Connection Settings Back.
Use :
Vodafone_Contract_UK_PPC_V2.0.CAB

This will setup your GPRS, 3G MMS etc.
Try this..

Hi,
I`m looking for an application, which I can use to send texts trough carriers website.
Many network carriers offer sending free texts from their websites (sometimes without logging in, sometimes with).
I`m interested in, because I`d like to use it for sending texts abroad for free.
I know that I can go to carriers website using Opera (or any other browser) and do it, but it takes time and makes it all a bit complicated.
I`d like to put the number and message and then press send, app. picks up that it`s an international number of recipient and forwards it to set earlier carriers website(without launching Opera) and sends it.
I`ve got 100 free texts every month trough my carriers website and I can use them to send texts abroad.
Maybe, there is something already as described above?
I had a very similar application on my desktop PC, it was called SMS Pilot and it did the trick on my home PC.
I`ll buy a case of "amber nectar" for it.
Cheers.
i like the idea but i think there are flaws in it in some cases. for example i can have up to 2messages free per day from vodafone.
the problem would be that as soon as you have used up those messages, sending another will fail..
you could solve it though..
1. just have the program give you the option to use normal txt mode or through carriers website
2. have a daily/monthly sms counter, maybe with a reminder so that you know what you have left..
anyway, loving the idea
hi!first of all sorry for my poor english.... the solution exist yet!!! i know two programs. one is java "skebby" the others is java and in beta test for windows mobile, the name is jack sms. i don't konow if they support the porvider you need. you can easy find if they do what you need. bye
I've got some problems with sending SMS.
I read about people with this problem, but nothing to fix that problem.
Please give me some information how to fix the problem.
1. I have the right SMS center
2. I have intalled provider configuration after hard-reset
3. I use WM 6.5 (5.2.21500 - 21613)
4. I use latest Radio (1.14.25.24)
5. I use new Manila (2.0.37889.1)
When I will send a SMS to someone, some seconds later came up message "Can't send SMS".
With the same SIM I can send SMS with an other mobile.
When I got my Touch HD, I couldn't send SMSs either. It was a problem with my SIM card, that it was too old and I couldn't SMS in newer phones (like touch hd). Try to get a new SIM card.
Can confirm the above on HD in switzerland, got a new sim solved it.

I never heard about that. Why is there a problem with older SIM-cards??
Searching google don't give me any hint!
Is there someone with other ideas?
Intresting approach !
So lets run the above by me one more time.
You post saying that you cant send sms, give us info about your settings, rom and radio.
User one says "It was a problem with my SIM card, that it was too old and I couldn't SMS "
User two says "Can confirm the above on HD in switzerland, got a new sim solved it. "
and then you google not liking the answer.
Now you want somebody to give you another answer, will google and not like it and then ??
I for one can not answer the question of why one can have a problem with old sim cards only confim that I had it and I solved it. But What do I know.
Hi HDuser.
Thanks for your reply to my thread! But it didn't help ...
On writing my statement, the second one (you) told, that he fixed the problem with a new card, too. So I saw first just one answer, after submitting the second.
My reason to ask more people is:
- I have to pay for a new SIM. Why should I order a new one, just one person told something about a new SIM.
- I don't understand, where's the differents between this SIM-card new one vs old one.
Are there realy different SIM-versions in the market? I don't find anything about that search the net...
Please post some URL to read about that fact.

Update 1:
I checked out with an other SIM (newer from 2008 prepaid) and the news: with it I can send out SMS.
So I phoned with my provider today. I will get a new SIM for free. They told me, a new SIM is good for my battery and GSM-connection, too.
Update 2:
Today I got my new SIM. But SMS don't sendout :-(
Where's the problem - that's my question at all!
Yours Andreas
Now I can only go on what happend to me and that was a faulty sim.
I too have to buy a new sim but if the sim that I have does not work then its a fault of my provider not mine. (but I have a contract and not a pre-paid).
I cant point you to anywere as you yourself can't find the issue in google.
If you feel its not the sim, them use a friends and SMS with that one, prove that you can SMS on the device and you know its not the device.
Proving that you can SMS with your sim an other device does not mean that the sim works on your blackstone.
On mine device just reflashed I need only to go to phone, options - services -voice messages and text - get settings .... this gives me my text message service of my provider. I am set and can send.
Sms Sending Problem with simcard of U-Fone - Pakistan
i have HTC Touch HD i installed the new 1.56 V3.3 XTREME by Dutty based ROM. everything works fine but sms. when i send sms it stays in the outbox until i make a call. the sms is only sent when i make a call.
i have tried the new sim card solution but no use.
still having problem. if someone have a solution please help.
Think you will find that the sms goes even though it says it doesn't, at least that is what mine is doing as the girlfriend thought I'd gone mad and sent her about ten messages all about some flight details.
Even though the phone said not sent she got them all lol, but got to admit it is annoying and it has nothing to do with my sim it has only happened since shifting to the 1.56 base all previous cooked roms worked without this glitch.
I don't have interface to send SMS or type a new e-mail
when i try to send a new sms or a new e-mail i got a blank white page.
please help
on Dutty's roms this is known bug of manila.
I have an old simple sim, more than 5 years old, and I can send sms within standard sms application. but when I use manila (on dutty's rom) it sends somtimes, and sometimes it doesn't.
MOD EDIT
Moving thread to general discussion forum
Hi,
I'm using a Sim Free Touch Diamond 2 on T-Mobile UK. Got a strange problem going on at the moment.
When someone sends me an SMS (From any network T-Mobile, Orange, O2 etc). I usually get the MMS with the picture downloaded within a couple of minutes. I can view this on the phone as you would expect. BUT, two days later I will then receive a TXT from T-Mobile saying that someone has send me a MMS, please go to http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/pmcollect - When I go and login the same picture message is waiting for me...?
Anyone else had this problem? Strange thing is that this only appears to have started happening since I returned from a trip to europe.
I've tried T-Mobile customer service - all they can suggest is that this is probably a setting on the handset....
Can anyone help or throw any light on this?
Cheers,
A.
Hi
I am having the same problem.and also experiancing sms coming through late or not at all. however i actualy work for T-Mobile.. and know its not a problem with the D2..it is more likely network issues. but am not aware of any issues..i will speak to technical next time i can and will let you know what they say..i is starting to bug me as well but it is some thing that started for me back in June and i was using my D1 at the time..
Hi there,
I have a similar problem.
When I receive a MMS I only get a sms/text notification saying that I have received a MMS and that I have to go to the t-mobile website. I can't view the mms on my phone.
Is this because I need to install a program to view the MMS?
I am able to send MMS, I just sent a MMS to myself and I received it without a problem, but as a sms/text message, not the MMS itself.
Really annoying!
Hoping to get an answer.
Cheers!
It sound like a problem with your settings...
Go to the t-mobile website :
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS
and send the settings to the phone once installed do a soft reset.
you should install both MMS and internet settings...
if this still doesnt work then you may have to try setting them up manualy ..
Heres a link to the manual on how to do it and the settings you need:
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=selectphone&phone=HA176
if that still doesnt work you will need to call customer service there maybe a problem with the settings on your account. tell them you have done the above steps cos they will want to do them again with you and if you get someone in the phillipines this not a easy task.. they should transfer you to technical support and they will sort it..
any more problems just ask as i have worked for T-Mobile for nearly 4 years..
Thank you!!
It worked!! Thank you very much!
The first option didn't work as I have a dutch number. I did try to send the mms options to my phone via the dutch t-mobile site but they don't have the settings yet for this phone!
I then googled for "t-mobile mms instellingen" (settings) and I found them. Did it manually and now it works like a charm.
For the dutch people interested, here is the site with the settings:
https://www.t-mobile.nl/persoonlijk...lgestelde-vragen.aspx?q=algemene instellingen
Thanks for pointing me in that direction!!
Cheers!
You normally get that text about going to the website to get your MMS when the network thinks your phones not MMS compatible or you don't have MMS messaging live on your acc.
Hi sorry only just getting back..
managed to speak to technical and what they said is they need 5 examples.
date time number and postcode of area you where in.
so they can raise the problem and get your mms profile reset and should then be fine.
Would any other members who are on Vodafone UK please let me know if they can send MMS messages. I have tried both contract and pay as you go sims, I can receive MMS messages but cannot send them. I would be grateful for any information to resolve this problem.

I wonder if this is related to my issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618218
According to this (I can't verify if it's out of date or not), Vodafone's MMS limit is 100k. If you want, you can try using Handcent Sms from the market, which severely reduces the file size (therefore the resolution and quality of the picture) before sending out an MMS. I'm curious to see if you're having the same issue as me. If you do, the stock messaging program has a pretty huge flaw in it which needs to be addressed.
Tell me how it goes.

Hmmm I was really hoping that would be the issue
I tried to do some research, and it seemed like some Hero users were having the same issue as you. See if this helps you at all: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/7776-mms-vodafone.html
The key would be this quote:
"All Vodafone Numbers MMS is deactivated At network level by default , you need to Ring customer services up on 191 Free of charge and ask them to Activate it"
I'm surprised they do it that way - it always used to be that the first MMS you sent activated your account automatically.

I think I had been down this way before but rang Customer Services again just to make sure. The guy at Vodafone first asked for my number which he checked and said that it was already activated for mms and internet, he then asked for make and model of phone, this is the good bit, he has never heard of this phone and it is not on their database so no support. I told him that they would be supporting this phone in the very near future, he said that if that is true I should just wait until that happens and ring back then.
What is it that makes it so difficult to send a flippin picture message

tell him you have a Vodafone Magic ... its a supported Android phone on Vodafone and the menus are identical so if he wants to talk you through setting anything up then no problem.
If he has to set anything network side to work on Voda then no problem either
