can HTC Softbank X01HT change casing? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

is this correct?
HTC Softbank X01HT = HTC TyTN = Dopod 838Pro??
is this is correct then can i change the HTC Softbank X01HT casing to Dopod 838Pro?

Hmmm, not sure if that makes sense!
The differences are not that much and I think that you are even more lucky by having the SOFTBANK version since it provides you with larger buttons under the display!
Also you might consider that you need to be almost an expert to get the device packed in a new housing properly. Well, your choice anyway!
I wouldn't risk it! It can be that the front part hardware under the display differs from a dopod since the keys are differently arranged!
Well, once more: I wouldn't risk it except my housing would be broken or so ... !

actually the phone i got is a 2nd hand... and also i prefer the 838pro looks...
i will goto dopod service center and check with them first before i change the casing.
anyway... thanks for your advice...

VOTE: Do u think the asian version is prettier?

Dopod 838 is the chinese version of the HTC wizard, it looks very nice to me compare with the Qtek/imate HTC wizard. Nevertheless, it's only available in chinese ROM....

The one thing I really like about it is the fact that the soft keys are placed further away from the call & end-call keys. I keep pressing the soft key accidently when I try to end a call - it's pretty annoying!

ouch that dopod was really ugly =) love my qtek 9100 =D
Isn't this just the HTC WIZA100 series design? Same internally as the WIZA200, but in a different plastic case, as used in the cheap Cingular version?

Actually, the Dopod 838 is available in both Traditonal Chinese and English ROMs. I live in HK (Australian) and have played with an English version Dopod 838.
Hope this helps. I personally prefer the look of the I-Mate/QTEK version.

so is the Qtek 9100 has a plastic case or metal one ????
Both (the front bezel is alloy). But if the WZA100/Cingular 8125 is $100 cheaper, who cares?
1st impression of Dopod - Sony P900(i) & Urgly...
That's why I bought a K-JAM via eXpansys even no official support center in HK & no interest free installment.
Want to clarify: Dopod 838 is Wizard, and K-JAM, Qtek 9100, etc - are Prodigy. Dopod keyboard is much like Universal keyboard, IMHO better then Prodigy.

True, the Dopod/Cingular is the "original" Wizard design. Not convinced on the keyboard though. It might look nicer, but the photos show that, unlike the Universal, the keys are totally flat. To me that suggests zero tactile feedback, and so a high risk of pressing adjacent keys,
a) because there is no space between them, and
b) because of the lack of a "dome", no way of feeling that your finger is central on the key.
i like the cingular/dopod one more but i have a couple of questions. anyone know of the cingular release date for it? cuz i know it was supposed to be mid november then they kept delaying it now some one said feb 1. also why is the dopod $950 on ebay and the k-jam around 700$? also is the dopod 838 802.11b or g like the k-jam. one last thing anyone have a pic with the dopod/cingular model next to the k-jam? because it looks like the dopod is smaller.

i-mate vs. qtek

hi,
i am looking into purchasing a htc prohpet ppc phone. expansys has the i-mate jamin and the qtek s200. i realize that, at least on the inside, the devices are identical.
i would like to know if anyone has had the chance to compare them. are they exactly the same except the logo or are there some differences. for example, i noticed that qtek mentions their scratch resistant surface, is i-mat ethe same ?
thanks for any comments on these two devices,
scott
The hardware will be identical apart from the logo. Even the scratch resistant surface. Where there may differ is how each will add value by adding useful applications like SPB GPRS Monitor and other such things.

Broken display :-(

Hi,
Yesterday my Qtek 2020i's display broke.
Repairing will cost 200 EUR, this is too much if you can get one new for 350 EUR.
However, I found this display:
http://cgi.ebay.at/orginal-Display-...QQihZ012QQcategoryZ123195QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It says, that it's also compatible with XDA 2i and MDA 2i but Qtek 2020i is not listed (only 2020).
Can I make sure that Qtek 2020i is the same as XDA 2i?
And, more important, the model number for the selled display is: 60H00022-00
I opened my Qtek but my model number is 60H00022-03 :-(
Does anybody know if that display will also work?
If not, I've a big problem!
Are there other solutions then?
Thank you very much in advance!
Niki
Qtek 2020i is the XDAIIi, yes.
If you are competent in DIY repair, try E-Bay for parts.
Keywords: Dopod 696 screen
The screen component is made up of 2 essential parts, the touch screen digitizer and the LCD screen.
Let hope not all of your two components are broken.
If the digitizer is cracked, the cost is rather low.

Mda Vario - Wiza100

could it be possible that a T-mobile MDA VArio is a wiza100?
i am looking for a defective unit since i need it for parts for my dopod 838(wiza100) and could the hardware or main board parts be used from the MDA Vario to the dopod 838?
any reply would mean great help. thanks.
On the home page of xda-devs forum it lists all the other names that devices may be known as. According to the front page of this forum, yes the dopod 838 is also known as the MDA Vario. As far as I know parts are interchangable regardless of what branding they may have.

Software wise they are 100% the same..hardware wise there are minor differences between some of the models..for instance the stylus on cingular 8125 and tmobile MDA (vario) is not the same..the keyboard is slightly different...you may have problems using some of the parts..outer casing etc.
I am concerned if the parts of the board is the same for both the mda vario and cingular 8125/dopod 838. I need an IC component for the USB module and i found a vario that has a broken LCD, i was wondering if the electronic components of a wiza100 and the wiza200 would be the same or compatible?

JAMin / SVP M600 / S200 ... identical?

Hi,
Firstly, I'm new to this forum, so hello to everyone! It looks like a place I'll visit often
I recently bought a 2nd hand i-mate JAMin. I'd never used a PDA/mobile combo before and now I have one I love it! But I've only had it a week and yesterday the screen broke!
I was looking for replacement screens on ebay - I found a company that sold many types of replacement lcd but I couldn't see i-mate JAMin in their list - I emailed them to ask if they stock any and they simply replied "no, we don't". Then I learned that the JAMin is an HTC Prophet and that this is also sold as the "Orange SVP M600" and the "Qtek S200". This very same ebay seller *does* sell replacement screens for the Orange SVP M600!!! - they currently have 10 in stock!
If I buy an Orange SVP M600 screen will it fit my i-mate JAMin, or not?
Same goes for the Qtek S200 ... can I use the screen (or case / battery etc.) from a Qtek S200 in my i-mate?
Finally - yesterday I saw some step-by-step photo instructions on how to disassemble the JAMin and replace the screen. It looks a bit tricky but I reckon I can manage it. However, the written instructions were in a foreign language... does anyone have a link to a good quality disassembly guide? (and can anyone let me know what type of screwdriver I need to undo those little hexagonal screws?)
EDIT: I found this link elsewhere on this site http://www.modaco.com/content/prophet-prophet-modaco-com/240109/changing-you-prophet-case/
Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
I emailed that ebay shop again asking if they are sure that their Orange SVP M600 replacement LCDs would not be compatible with my i-mate JAMin since both PDAs are an HTC Prophet inside. This is the reply I got ...
The ribbon colours can be different, so these LCD are not the same.
But we just got in stock lcd for Jamin, so you can order this Orange SPV M600 replacement LCD display screen and make note that this should be for JAMIN and we will pick correct ribbon colour

Does this "ribbon colour" thing fit with anyone else's experiences?
It seems a bit odd that the day I ask if JAMin and SVP M600 screens are the same they suddenly get stock of JAMin screens and they want me to order a JAMin screen by buying a SVP M600 screen and telling them it's for JAMin!
Either way, I'm currently bidding on a different 'spare-screen' auction... if I don't win that I guess I'll order from these guys in the way they've described.
