GPS quick fix, possible? - P3600 General

Hi,
this has been discussed before and in different places, but nobody came up with a valid solution:
Is there a quick GPS program that works for Trinity? Is there one in the new p3600i that works with P3600? What about the Kaiser one, did anyone get it to work properly on the Trinity, if yes, does it actually work? There's the Qgps, apparently from HP wich has the same qualcomm chip - it doesn't seem to work.
So, the objective of this post is to summarize anything that works. Please do not post anything about other GPS quick fix from other vendors or Sirf fixes, we already know they don't work.
thanks!

Nope.
there is a gps sat location updater piece of software but it doesn't seem to do anything on Trinity in UK.

which one is it?
thanks!
P.S. QGPS appears to help a little bit, but it's difficult to tell

This may be a solution, but it requires a data connection

POssible to turn wizard into tracking device with GPS

I was pondering if it would be possible to turn the Wizard into a GPS tracking device. Im not sure if someone has already created a program for this but it seems like it would be pretty simple. Basically just have the device send GPS coordinates via data connection to a host pc and have them translated to a map. I might be missing something though. I dont have a gps receiver yet to try it out, but I would like to know if anyone has done it before or if its possible.

Hi there, I have done this with a little piece of software from here.
www.3dtracking.net
When I first heard about them, the service was free. They now charge for most services but the free system is still there.
When you get to that page, look under "About 3dtracking" and the free bit is listed at the bottom.
All you have to do is create an account, which is simple and then download the software.
For anyone else reading this, they do software for the S60 series phones too. I had it running in my Nokia 7610 (Before the wizard of course).
The 7610 software is buggy but the PDA version seems to work excellently.
Hope that answers your question.
GPS tracking...
Yes, there are a number of programs available to do that.

GPS Intermediate Driver not working

Is anybody using the GPS control panel without problems? Or had them resolved somehow?
The GPS Intermediate Driver is a new feature in Windows Mobile 5 that is supposed to allow multiple applications to use the GPS device (its serial port, to be correct).
Usually, the GPS control panel needs to be enabled by setting the Hide value in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings] to 0. (In addition, it has been suggested to remove it altogether, and to add a DWORD value "Group" = 2.)
With the GPS control panel, the GPS Intermediate Driver can be enabled and public and private COM ports can be configured.
All these settings end up under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver].
One reboot or soft-reset later, and this is supposed to work like a charm. (http://blogs.conchango.com/kenibarwick/archive/2006/03/19/3119.aspx).
Except that, with my TyTN and a Xaiox Super III Instant Fix, it doesn't.
The GPS works fine directly with the Nemerix test app or GPS Tuner, but using the Intermediate Driver, the Bluetooth connection is never initiated and no data is received.
No error message, whatsoever. Just silence.
Now I would like to know if anybody else had this issue and if and how they were able to resolve it.
The PocketPC SDK documentation lists registry values to configure GPSID logging (CurrentLogFile and OldLogFile), but to no avail. The files are not being written, which is not a surprise because the Bluetooth connection is never brought up.
The Xaiox InstantFix is a small cheap Bluetooth GPS mouse that has quite a remarkable sensitivity. It really does work indoors, (not in the basement though) and city/forest areas are not a problem at all.
My TyTN is fresh from repair and I hadn't need a reset in a week if it wasn't for this problem (and my frustration-compensating playing around with Wisbar Advance and the Vista theme, but that's another story).
Hi HB_TyTN,
I have the same problem. Using an HTC Universal, ROM 1.90.96 and Radio version 1.130.00.
wait, i thought the vario II doesnt' even have GPS on it?

You mean you didn't know about the MI5 FBI plot to track Hermes owners being as they're obviously radical with phones of mass destruction? Conspiarcy theory, tosh, that's just a seeded idea to convince us they don't know we spend 24hrs a day abusing our TyTns in the garden shed, developing a today screen plug in called Global Thermo Nuclear War Beta!

Enabling the internal gps in the 8525

I have heard there is software out there but this girl is in over her head. i would like to enable the internal gps for the 8525 but I don't know where to start any ideas?
Thanks guys
Tiffany
RTFW
It's not possible.
"Hey, your an idiot."-------sorry thats just one of my favorite sayings.
But on a serious note you need to do some researching and read the thread about the internal gps and how it can not be done. Adios

The internal gps was hacked with a homebrew driver and a trinity radio, however it was found that the internal gps did NOT have an antenna present and the hardware mod to fit one would just be stupid to try (VERY likely to brick).
If you follow the gps thread (in the hermes upgrading section) you will find that the chip reports two satelites in range but im sure this was found to be erroneous.
The best and cheapest and probably the most wise thing to do is to use a bluetooth gps receiver.
thanks mrvanx
thanks mrvanx..I heard there was an internal gps but I thought i needed some software to activate it.sorry to hear it.anyone know the best/cheapest bluetooth gps device?

tytn GPS

did this thing working?
and where is the software?
any who nows?
The GPS on the Hermes is disabled at the chip level in hardware--so NO the antenna in the link won't help. The only way to get gps is to sell your hermes and buy a kaiser or buy an add on gps

if you did a search (like you should have) you would have found the other threads on it including the original one where someone pulled a phone to bits to work it out.

GPS lag

Does anyone here found a solution/fix to GPS lag in HTC Touch HD?
If you did, would you mind sharing on how you did it?
If you use GPS Mod Setup, what settings do you use? I tried but didnt notice any difference. I'm using Garmin Mobile XT.

Hi Mastoid,
Quick GPS does not assists with lag. It only assists with getting the GPS signal quicker to your phone. GPS lag has been around since the beginning and I'm not sure when it will ever be fixed on these phones. Hopefully the Leo can shed some light as I think it is primarily a hardware issue. However I am praying and hoping that it can be fixed via software drivers....

Yeah... i was a little unsure as to whether this would have made a difference as its a lag associated problem. Thanks for that information band 27 - what you mentioned clarifies my thoughts - I now remember the release notes for HTC's most current ROM update via their website, it stated somewhere that there was a fix for the GPS lag issue... I guess is still exists then which is unfortunate
Best Regards.
I have a lag also.
Additional there are often some deviations in data.
I had Eten X500+ (SirfStarIII build in) and there was no such behaviour.
Looks like Qualcom GPS is simply worse
anybody here have tried updating their rom with official HTC Touch HD ROM Upgrade (EU)?
It does mention "The GPS position updating speed has been enhanced".
I would like to know the result.
I previously owned a Mitac Mio A700. It has built in SirfStarIII as well.
Yes. I noticed it performs much better than my current HTC Touch HD.
