I have a problem: when I put my mda on "loud" the phone doens't make sound when someone calls me. Only the light goes on. In the settings "Ring type" is vibrate and ring, but still no sound. Tried also just ring but nothing happened, only light goes on. Even tried different ringtones, but that's not helping either. I have the WM5SE rom, but don't think that the rom gives me this problem, because I had this on other roms also, like the NBD series. When I first install the rom, everything is working fine, but after a few weeks it starts giving me this problems. I switch a lot between ring and vibrate, could this be the problem? Does anybody please no how to fix this?? Ferreira maybe you have some experience with this? Anyway I hope someone can help me, because I missed a lot of calls because of this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Check your radio version. I think the best is 2.19
And when you said it doesnt ring, does it vibrate (i.e. does the phone knows it has call comming in, and do something to respond to it).. or just a speaker problem?
Try hard reset. If it doesnt work then it may be an issue of headphones slot jam.

I have radio 2.69.11, ring type is "vibrate and ring". It does vibrate, but it doesn't ring. You know what the problem is?

It is probably (as vlodeck mentioned) headphone jack jammed. If thats the case, you should not be having any sound from the phone at all (i.e. no music, no notification sound, no SMS sound). I had this problem before, and I do not want to make this sound dirty, but you can fix the problem by poking it Poke your headphone in and out in and out

headphone works, music works also, even without headphone, so that's not it. I tried flashed radio 2.19.11 T-Mobile NL. No I just have to find someone who can call me to test it. will post the result.
hmm.. that is iiiinnnnnttttteeerreeessstting. from what it seems, chances are probably the ring tone you are using is somewhat, not compatible. Tryign changing it to a default ring tone, WAV, shorter one, that is not in the storage card.

I tried this also, it didn't work. I think I'm going crazy. If I change the ringtone and test it by pressing "play", then it works! But if someone calls me, I can only see that someone is calling, but I hear nothing! And if it's on "vibrate and ring", then it vibrates but doesn't ring! Isn't this crazy??
this may sound crazy, but just to check, is your volumn up? push your volumn slider up? make sure both the volumn controls are up.

I found the problem! thanks to you of course. I did this before but now I no the volume slider is broken. only the right volume was up and the left was all the way down. So that caused the phone not ringing. Anyway, I just have to do this with my finger/stylus in the future, so thank you for your help!
CASE CLOSED.
Its interesting but in WM5 i had all sorts of problems once where my music would not play at all. I had all the volumes turned up and all that and it still wouldnt play, then I turned the volume on Windows Media Player down to 95% and it started playing again, and i turned it back up to 100% and it was fine. Little minor glitch me thinks

I wish it was that simple, but alas I tried a lot , and it looks like I might have a faulty one unless anyone got an idea
I find it hard to believe that it's a hardware issue if both the external speakers and the headphones don't work at the same time yet the ringtones do work.....
I hope it's something simple and you don't have to resort to a phone return.
No Sound
Has any one found a solution for this problem, as I have the exect same issue. All sounds on exec dont work execpt when receiving an incoming call, when call is answered cant hear a thing, does work though with headset.
Have tested and sms, mms etc sound doesnt work, movies and music doesnt work either.
This is not going to help  but I had a similar problem a few months ago on my XDA2. Phone rang, I tried to answer it, but couldn't hear a thing. No other sounds worked. Headphone worked perfectly. Soft resets achieved nothing.
Thought my XDA2 had died after 18 months of service, but then suddenly an hour later it all started working again and did from then on.
I have no idea why this happened or whether I did anything to fix it, but the problem isn't unique to the Universal.
I'm running PocketZenPhone. Maybe that could be interfering with the sounds somehow? Dunno.
Edit: I doubt it's a hardware problem so I definitely wouldn't risk sending my shiny Exec back to O2's monkeys for them to replace with another broken one. Did you try a hard reset? I didn't on the XDA2 but maybe it'd help. :?:
Try this...
Maybe you should try this, I use it in order to transfer all the sounds (including music) to the BT Headset when I am at the gym:
-Get Total Commander
-Go to the registry editor
-Tap or search for this directory: \\\registry\HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\
-Change the value of the String LaunAPEnable to value "0".
-Now press and hold the main button on the headset (the one you use to answer calls and transfer the call to the speaker of the Universal) and try if this worked.
-If you succeed or not revert the value of the string back to "1" or you will not be able to use VoiceCommand.
Hope this can help you.
Problem SOLVED. No sound
I had the same issue with my Jasjar. When you plug in the headphones it turns off the speakers except for incoming ring tones. The inside of the ear jack got stuck. I had to take apart the unit and bend the clip. It contacted so that it didnt' think there was a headphone inserted. I don't ever remebering plugging in a headphone to even have cause this problem. Its just a very loose contact. So when you get in there you bend it to make it stronger. You will understand once you have it apart.
Hello everyone,
first thanks to this great forum! - My first post. I have some problems with my speakers, and since it looks like this is nothing uncommon, I had the hope that I can fix it easily. I found some tricks (paper in the backside, audiojack fix) - but after thinking a little bit it looks like my problem is a little bit more complex.
All in all, my speakers (and my built-in mic) are not working. So for example if I make a call, both will not work so I won't hear anything nor the other person will hear from me.
But if my alarm clock rings or I receive a call, I will hear my ring- and alarm tone from the rear speaker. But I will not hear anything if I try to play music or while choosing the ringtones in my mobile phone. That's what is really wondering me.
Do you have any idea how this problem can happen - and maybe how it can be solved? Using a headset everything works fine.
Best regards and a happy new year 2009

Have you read this:
A summary of common speaker problems with the HTC Prophet
HTC Prophet Speaker Problems mike channon.pdf
Mike
I didn't read this pdf, but I read about these problems, these are the popular ones that doesn't fit. I couldn't solve it with these tips and also the strange thing remains unexplained: If, for example, it would be a audio jack fault, why then it uses the rear speaker for ringtones with incoming calls and the alarm clock? But if it would be A, the speaker is faulty, then it shouldn't work anytime..
I have a feeling it's a (B) - from the PDF ie a Jack Plug Socket problem. The alarms and ringing will come through the rear speaker as is normal but in call sound once the call is answered is not directed to the internal earpiece speaker along with mic sound being directed outward. Of course, what we cannot say for sure is that the earpiece speaker is not faulty. However given that your mic sound is not being directed properly either then the probability is that the sound is not being directed as it should by the jack plug socket.
Having said that there remains for me one issue that is puzzling. That is that the larm and ringing sounds work correctly through the rear loudspeaker, BUT I think you said that playing tunes on WM Player does not?!
Despite the above, and given that the Jack Plug Socket is a "multi-Switching" one, it is the most likely culprit. If you look at the picture of the contacts you can see that there are a few possible incorrect combinations of contacts in which it could be stuck.

Absolutely right, that's the strange thing. And when I want to hear a ringtone preview while choosing the ringtone, it is also not working. The alarm clock and ringtone by incoming calls are the only things where it works - perfect.

Yep, and I tried to do there something, but didn't helped (and it looks like that the mobile doesn't enable the earphone)..
Mmm. if the jack plug socket is fine, then at this distance I have run out of suggestions - sorry!
Mike
Anyway, thank you very much for your help.
But maybe someone knows how the technique of the mobile phone works, how it can happen that only on a special action the sound is working? Can this be a hardware problem (I think so, cause as far as I remember right the problem occured a short time after a deforming crash)? Or is it a software problem, maybe both?
The point that it is working on special events let me think that there should be a software way to solve this problem - cause it looks like there is a different way the sound goes when it is an incoming call or the alarm clock than with normal sound. And so it may be possible to let the normal sound go the way the alarm clock goes?
I'm not a developer, so I don't know about this, but this is something I could imaging.. does anybody now about this more?
Some strange update:
I just downgraded to my original operator firmware with the result, that the sound for the alarm clock is also not working - with this wm 5 version only ringtones with incoming calls are working.
Upgrading again to Wm 6.1 enabled the sound for the alarm clock again.
.. confusing, but it also looks now for me that there should be a software possibility to enable the sound again...
A big problem. My phone works good , but after 4-5 calls or messages he just stop playing a ringtone and vibrate ... i search on settings when this problem is on and seems that he chaNge the ringtone by itself. To make him work again i need to reset or off - on... i reinstall windows but i have same problem.
Sorry about my english
Does the phone actually change the settings OR does it keep the correct settings but just stops ringing?

I am trying to decide if this is a software or a hardware fault.
A common problem is the rear speaker (used for the phone ring) becoming loose. It's fairly easy to push the connector firmly back in place, but perhaps you should test this first.
One way to test this would be to play some sound files (MP3s etc, at a time when the phone is refusing to ring. If you get no sound or poor quality sound, then I think the connector is loose.
Other problems like the phone going to default ringtonemay or may not be related to the problem. First, do the above test to be sure it's is or isn't a hardware fault.

Well that probably removes the possibility of a hardware fault.
I'm afraid I cannot think what else to try.
I assume it does this with all ringtones you choose?

Yes... i frequently change my ringtones
One thing left to try that I can think of is to flash a different ROM. Not the easiest thing to do though if you have never done it before.
Mike
your problem may just be the phone itself. My phone also quit ringing, and I found out that it would only play certain ringtones, even though all my ringtones were stock and came with the phone. For some reason, certain ringtones just quit working. By using the standard default ringtone, the phone works just fine.
Every time I answer the first call of the day, I have to turn up the volume, which is very low. Does it default to low volume from start up?
Also, I frequently put my phone on vibrate with no ringer, then back to full volume ringer throughout the day. This wouldn't have anything to do with call volume, would it? Sometimes mid-day the call volume is back to low.
I use a bluetooth when driving to work, but adjust the call volume on that device, not the phone.
Am I just doing something dumb, here?
Thanks

ok thanks. This is my first Windows phone. Installing a different ROM seems over my head, unless I can do it on my MAC?
Ever since I purchased my HD2 (Telstra) in February, I have had a problem where the ring volume intermittently switches off and I cannot hear incoming calls. At some stage after with no attempted fix, another call comes through and the phone rings fine at the volume I have set. The problem doesn't seem to be attached to certain callers, it seems to do it at times no matter who calls.
The phone actually rings (albiet silently) when the problem occurs as I see the phone go to the incoming caller screen, but there is no ring volume. When I check the volume of the ring tone on the phone after the call it is still set to a bit under half way.
I have the original Telstra ROM installed. haven't tried the new one yet.
Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? I don't want to go to all of the effort to reinstall everything just to find out that the problem still occurs.
Thanks.
Same here!
I have the US version but have had this issue with both the stock US rom as well as the offical update they just posted.
A soft reset fixes it, but its totally random and is a major pain in the ass.
Any tips? Please help!
i have the same exact problem with my leo.
does someone have a resolution for this?
Me too!
Glad to know it's not just my HD2 that has this issue. I run the UK stock ROM and have suffered with this since I first got the phone! Most of the time it's fine, just every now and again goes quiet and I miss a call... I have even had the ringtone start loud, and then fade out. Would love to know if there is a fix for this......
Hi boys,
i've a similar issue with my Acer S200 with Manila ROM (OS version 5.2.23123, Manila version 2.5.20153712.0).
In a randomic way, suddenly the ringtone volume goes zero. I have usually ringtone+vibration, and vibration disappear too, together with ringtone....!
So with a new call, i can see the "incoming call" sceen but no sound and no vibration alert me...
With a soft reset i can solve, but i cannot understand what is the condition that triggers this problem....
