Oh noes. I think i have a paperweight :( - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi guys.
Well, a month or two back i updated my imate kjam to WM6 and absolutely love it. Haven't had a single problem up until now.
Last week i did a soft reset on the phone (after installing phonealarm) and it stuck on the wm6 logo boot screen. tried a number of resets, removing the battery etc. finally had to do a hard reset and reinstall everything.
last night a similar thing happened. the phone had turned itself off in my pocket. so i tried a soft reset and got no luck. tried to do a hard reset, got to the screen where you confirm the reset but decided i'd try a few more things before committing to losing everything again.
now i can't do a thing with it. can't even get to the hard reset menu.
i've tried leaving the battery out overnight, tried resetting whilst it's plugged into the charger, everything i can think of. isn't recognised when plugged into the usb port either.
i'm at a total loss. any help / tips would be greatly appreciated, i'd hate to lose everything on my pda, as i used this thing constantly
one weird thing is that when plugged into the charger, i don't see a LED light up to say it's charging??

Is it possible that your battery may be flat?
Can you get into bootloader mode?

can't get into bootloader.
if my battery was flat, would the charging LED light up when it was plugged in?
thanks for the reply.

afer doing some more reading, it looks like it might just well be a dead battery.
apparently, wizard / kjam batteries are notorious for requiring the wall charger to get them going again once they're flat. something about needing 1000ma.
i just checked my charger that came with the unit (ebay), and noticed it only put out 850ma. going to grab my brother's jasjam charger and hope to hell it's 5v 1000ma.
fingers crossed.

i had a similar problem, and following a solution on ere somewhere i fixed it, this is done at ur own risk, im nt responsible. unplug the charger from the wall, still plugged into fone(this is to empty charger of any charge thats there) thn unplug fone and dip the end of the lead in water(yes sounds weird i no...) then make sure theres nt an excess on the end and plug into wizard adn thn the wall, should be red light and then after a few mins orange - charging hope it works

hehe
just letting everyone know it's now working again
didn't need to do any water dipping.
just plugged in brother's 5v 1000ma charger and it's now charging

OMG !! Good Goooooooshhhh

hope ur serious about ur method, well sry to say....... never heard of such a method before, I'm not making any fun of u or plz don't take me wrong , I don't mean any harm.
I just can't believe it cud happen like that, after all water dip will certainly short circuit and burn it.
well, just for my knowledge, have u ever tried this urself ?

I thought exactly the same when i read it first, but since my phone wasnt turning on, gave it a go and it worked! As i say sounds odd but apparently its somthing to do with the circuits controlling the charge, if theres not enough power then obviously they wont work, so this way does...sounds odd but works! I just had a quick search and cant find the original thread, it was an alternative to the 9 volt battery solution

well than I must say u got a brave heart,If had that choice ,i wud have thought 10 times and still said No
As u said that u had gone for it and did and were successful,do believe u now. In that case its very valuable information thanks

So your saying to dip the end of the charger plug into water?? It sounds like really all you would be doing is cleaning off the terminals of dust or debris that could be impeding a connection of some sort.

MDA is dead I think....Please read and help

I was in San Diego for a week, used my phone, flew back to baltimore, got out the air port made a couple of phone calls, got in the car and got home. When I took my phone out of the pocket to call someone, my phone wouldn't power on. I plugged the charger in, nothing's happening. No led lights, no charging. I plugged it in for an hour and still nothing. I tried the USB cable with the black and red wires trick, still nothing.
I don't know why my phone's dead.....
Did anyone else experience a problem like this?
is this fixable? anyone know how to fix it? Anyone willing to fix it for me?
thank you, I just really want to get my phone back..
Your Battery is probably completely dead and unfortunately a lot of time on wizards the battery won't charge again until you give it a little juice to get it going. There's 2 ways of doing that, one is with a 9v battery and the other involves hacking up a mini USB cord. I've explained the 9v battery one twice this week already and I've seen the USB one on here at least twice this week also so I'm going to let you do a little searching for them.
Here, I decided to be nice and find one of my posts for you that explains how to do the 9v method. Check out post #9 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321375

hey thansk, but I did mention i tried the usb thing, and my gf has a 8125 so i tried her battery which was full and it still didn't do anything.
I'm going to try the 9v battery method..
thanks for your reply.
no one has any idea?
If you tried with a fully loaded battery from the wizrad of your gf and it still did not work then there might be more than just an empty battery.
Did you try to get into bootloader mode or do a hard reset using other battery?

is the bootloader mode when u press the right side buttons? if so yes I did try it.
I think I'm going to open up the phone today and try to see if anything is loose in there.
.. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen) ...

To hard-reset you may try more than once ... when I do it sometimes I need to do it several times until the question appears to confirm the hard reset.
hmm, myphone died before to the point where it didnt charge, I recomend giing it a little juice, you can use the 9v battery, what I did is hacked up one of m wall chargers and did it that way, seperate the positive and negative wires then touch it to the + and - on the battery for like 5 seconds. after that just plug the phone in, and you should be good to go. hope it helps.
I tried allthe solutions listed, I think my phone is dead...
thanks for posting solutiosn people

C500 not starting

i've got my c500 from a friend.
the problem is that it doesn't start at all.
i tried the hard reset method, i tried pressing the camera button and then inserting the usb cable and nothing.
this is my first spv phone so i really dont know the deal with them...
can this phone charge from usb? or do i need a wall socket charger? (i dont have one).
my first real problem is how to start the darn thing the phone worked great a couple of months ago, i dont know what he did to it in this time, but i really want it to work again, so, if anybody has any ideas, i'll be glad to try them out.
thank you for reading.
Is jump starting the battery an option ??
If the Typhoon is anything like the wizard ( 8125 )- sounds like the battery is dead. Unfortunately - dead to the point where it is not strong enough to even start the phone.
There are a few "jump start" options - which I can direct you to, but someone with more knowledge on the typhoon battery will need to respond first.
I am not comfortable giving advise on a model I have little knowledge of. We have an audiovox smt 5600 - but have not really done anything with it, other than update the rom.
If someone can confirm that the procedure is safe - I can copy the post so you can give it a shot.
Yep, sounds like a dead battery to me too. Usually that only means that the phone has to be charged a few hours extra before it wakes up (during the first few hours of charging the phone may not even light up, just leave it plugged in anyway). The phone charges fine over USB, no wall charger required but it takes a little longer.
You can get new batteries off ebay for £5 if it is completely dead.
i dont really know what that means...
this is what i did...
i measured the Volts of the battery with a volt-meter and it showed me that it was dead.
i took a moto e398 and wire-connected the battery to the phone and i left it to charge. it did...i now have some volts in my battery...the problem is that it doesnt start at all!
not even the little led blinks...
i really have no ideas...my friend said that the left soft key doesn't work so good so i'm thinking that the 'right& left soft keys + start button' tehnique wont work so good...
i'll give you all the details you need.. i just need to know if anything can be done to make this baby work again...

Please Help - Tytn won't charge!

hi every1,
i kno theres some very clever guys on this forum as many of my past problems i have been able 2 find fixes for. I hav searched the web but can't find much info on my latest problem and the info i hav found hasnt been very useful.
The problem i have is that a couple of days ago i put my tytn on charge when i returned to hopefully find it fully charged it had totally run out of battery and wouldn't turn on. with a bit of trial and error i managed 2 get it to turn on for a bit when plugged in - looked at the power meter and it said 0%. my first thought was that it must be a battery fault so i bought a new battery but i still can't charge my phone. I've tried it plugged into the mains and also through usb connection to my laptop and both have the same effect.
the problem has really puzzled me because i am able to transfer files through usb but cannot charge the phone. when i plug it in i initially get a red light but that soon turns to flashing amber lights and does not charge - i can turn it on with the new battery but it only has 50% left. i have already resorted to a hard reset and this did not fix my problem.
i would be greatful for any help or comments on my problem as i think its rather unique due to the lack of info on it.
i have an O2 XDA Trion (tytn) and it is running WM6 which i flashed myself but it is the official opperator update.
personally i feel this is a hardware issue, if anyone knows where i can get it repaired then that would be a great help too, i may try to take it back to O2 but i dont think they will be interested as i hav had it for about a year and i am now on orange but using the tytn.
cant wait 2 hear from u, thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
Matt.
Some things to try:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live...._c=BlogPart&partqs=cat=Hermes+Charging+Issues
NB. The rocking the battery on and off the contacts mentioned in the above link, is more of a TyTn II trick but it may work with the Hermes.
Assuming one of the gold battery connector pins onthe Hermes is not disconnected then what you are trying to do with these tricks (to put it crudely) is to reset the charging circuit that seems to have a habit of getting "stuck". Incidentally this is a problem that seems to affect many phones by different manufacturers.
Mike
A perhaps first solution that has worked for me in the past. While it may seem elementary... perhaps the pins on your usb port are dirty. When I had my palm, I pretty much had to clean the bottom pins with a needle almost every time I wanted to sync, since they got a little grimey and didnt make a good connection. Try taking out the battery, and very lightly taking a needle and seeing if there is dirt or grime on the connections. Then blow on the port really hard (even better, use a can of compressed air) and see if that solves it.
Can't hurt to try

thanks for the suggestion. hav tried these several times and had no joy, my phone does register a battery because the red light goes away when i put the battery in but there is no amber charge light just an amber light that flashes every 2-3 secs. do you kno anything else i could try or do u kno somewhere that may be able 2 fix it if its a hardware issue? thanks. matt.
in reply to jotek
i will try this as i wont do any harm but i cant see it helping much as i am able to transfer files accross usb no problem so i dont think theres any problem with the connection. thanks for the suggestion though. wish i knew more about how the phone works lol.
all ok now
just to let people know, i wasn't able to find anyway of getting it to charge again so have taken it back to O2 and was supprised to find it was still under manufacturers warranty so thay have sent it off for repair free of charge can take up to 2 weeks they said - what's the bets that its longer than that
Thanks for the previous suggestions
You mean your PC can read your phone, but your phone's battery cannot be charged somehow. Even the power is left 50 percent, you still cannot start your phone? It is strange. Have you try use the charger connect to your phone? Maybe there is something wrong whit a component about the pover switch.

seemingly dead Hermes.. help :(

Hey all, I've searched the forum and not found much at all..
I have no idea why this happened but my Hermes won't turn on at all, power button has no effect whatsoever and when I try to charge it I get the red light of death..
I put it down on my desk with ~80% battery last night and when I went to check for messages (by watching the service LED for a few seconds) in the morning the LED wasn't flashing so I tried waking it up and it was dead.
Plugged it into the charger, RLoD.. what the ****?
Anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong?
Usually caused by something that causes the battery to drain below 10%. Then you can get the RLOD. The charging circuit gets locked up and won't allow the device to charge. A pesky problem, but at least you have the RLOD, if you didn't then it could be the motherboard fuse.
So some things to try, non of them guaranteed and sometimes it works after trying these things several times over:

I have put my battery in my friend's Hermes and it says its 100% charged, I have put his battery in my Hermes and it still won't boot..
It's really weird.. BTW already tried your RLoD fixes, none worked.
I really hope I can fix it, I keep trying to slide open the non-existent qwerty keyboard on my Magician and it's frustrating using an OSK :S

Other than hard reset (don't think you mentioned doing that) I have only one other suggestion and that is the battery contacts. Hopefully not fractured between the pins and motherboard, but worth a try at cleaning the contacts and pushing the battery against the contacts.
If that doesn't work then I fear a motherboard fault.
Mike
Ok well for some reason my Hermes decided to boot up this morning after sitting on my desk for a night..
Weird stuff..

It is strange. Sometimes charges can build up within capacitors in a circuit and the "logic" can be disrupted. This is why sometimes it's a good idea with some faults to leave the battery out for a while to clear any such charges. However in your case with all the battery swapping and so on, I am a little sceptical that this was the cause.
If it happens again, I'd certainly be looking for a fault between battery connectors and the battery or between the connectors and the motherboard.
Let's hope that's it cured however
Mike

Let Andriod die now have a paper wheight

ok here is the problem.
4 nights ago i forgot to plug in my hd2 while android was running and the battery died.
the next morning i went to turn it on and the screen no longer turns on but the phone does boot. the battery doesnt charge, status light doesnt either, end key doesnt work, when i answer calls no noise can be heard or made.
any hope?
Im guessing you cant run bootloader?
Maybe this is a warrenty jobby
If you know someone with another HD2, Try swapping the battery.

Hi Chris,
Please eleborate/clarify your OP, because I don't think anyone gets this... At least i don't! You say the screen doesn't turn on but the phone boots?! How do you figure that? Your device is actually on because you can receive/answer calls!?! :S
Sounds like your device has just BSOD (Black Screen of Death) which is discussed quite a lot here. Just press reset button or pull the battery (please tell me you have tried that before...).
If your device IS NOT powered on, please try this:
Does the device vibrate shortly when pressing the End-button? If so you should leave it connected to the charger for longer. If battery has drained too much it takes a while for the device to allow it to power itself up (prevention of overdrainage, which Lithium-batteries don't like very much).
Do you charge through USB, or with the supplied charger? I've had this before trying to charge it with a (different brand) microUSB charger. Turned out most chargers only give out 500mAh, whilst my normal charger (and car-charger) give out 1000mAh i believe. That might help.
You can order a cheap replacement battery from China (i got mine with dockingstation), which is already charged about 60% (for storage purposes).
BTW if your problem is fixed, please add the prefix [FIXED] or [SOLVED] to your topics title.

i have restarted many times.
i use the wall charger.
but why would the phone boot but not turn on the screen or have the mic work?
remove your sd card and the battery. you may have to hit the rest button on the back after you plug the battery back in as well, but as long as you have the sd card out it should come back on. try plugging the phone into a charger and then remove the battery as well sometimes it'll wake it up so to speak. it's just a matter of playing with it. mine did the exact same thing and i freaked out for a little bit.
now if after all this it doesn't work and you've played with it for a while then yeah, best of luck to you =\. but whatever you do in playing with the battery and the charger, keep the sd card out until you can boot into winmo.
EDIT: never mind, i thought the phone wasn't booting. i misunderstood, but i went back and reread the original post. try reflashing your rom if you're in winmo and experiencing those issues. or take the sd card out and reboot.
i would suggest making an backup, as your phone turns on you should be able to estaplish a remote-connection with some (3rd-party-)software and do a hardreset.
if this wont work i would recommend setting it back to factory default (revert hspl if you have one and install stock rom) and send it in for warranty.
seems to be some major problem...
All this steps should be possible without screen turning on (working touchscreen may be needed for backup, but flashing doent need screen input)
if drive-mode is default for your usb connection and holding you from flashing you can do a hardreset and afterwards active sync will be default again and you can establish an active sync connection and flash
check if any of the pins that contact the battery are bended or broken, try to avoid removing the battery when you have to reset your hd2 because the pins are fragile
similar thing happened to me just last night!
I tried the jmz dual boot last night and I was nearly out of battery. I didnt look at any instructions I just installed it and restarted the phone to check out the new toy. it finally got done loading I chose android right away and I was walking towards the bedroom. when I went to see if android had fully booted and plug in the phone I had nothing! It was off. I decided that the battery must have died so I tried to turn it on and all that happened was the tmobile flash screen came up for a second and then it went right off, I got so desperate that I was going to do a hard reset but that wouldnt even work! the boot loader screen would just shut right off. I was suggested to try another battery we had at the house and bang it fired right up I took a wiff of my other battery and I dont know what happened but I think I let the magic smoke out cuz it is fried!

hello friend...i have a problem similar to this. basically when my phone is in android which i use alot if it dies in android, when i reboot it it will turn on for about a second to see my splash screen then turn itself off (the battery is obviously flat). so i plug my charger in and it stays on now but doesnt indicate charging....i boot it into windows mobile and the batt just stays at 0% but its still working. however once i unplug it it will die.....its like the battery is not in the phone. luckily i have two batteries and a dock which charges batteries, so i replaced the battery and everything works fine. once the battery that died in android was fully charged i tried it again and it was fine.................im guesing the moral to this story is dont let your phone die in android mode
I do notice my HD2 runs hotter while in android than while it runs in Windows.
I am not sure if that's an issue to this, which is why I never mentioned about it being hotter. Although my HD2 is noticeable hotter, it never gets to a point that I think I should unplug the USB due to overheating concern...
Just a few inputs from passed experience
I use TMOUS Stock 2.13.531.1 WWE ROM
2.12.50.2_2 radio (not stock)
k going to tmobile today to see if they have any extra batteries i can try.
then ill update
i went to tmobile. and while i was there i noticed the screen was turning on but very dim without backlight (barely noticable). but the rep helping me did not notice and i let it stay that way because tmobile is sending me a new refurbished phone as long as i send the old one (and the rep was totally cool he uses xda also and said they wont check my software and if they do they wont ask for the phone back). he also let me get insurance in case this happens again, instead i will just say its lost. so i basically killed 2 birds with one stone
