Thank you very much for this!
EDIT:
Only these two folders? No more or do I have to replce the folders inside of my Kitchen?
I took the liberty to changing the Title to Internet Explorer and Giving you Bump in informing you.
Hope people get the intention of this thread, so hopefully there won't be hundred's of different IE versions around.
Have you Seen PIE8 yet?

Hi Noonski, yes I already have Internet Explorer version 8 for a few days. Not tested yet. I uploaded it to mediafire so you can download the cab here. I didn't make an OEM package yet.

I would like to know as well what SYS packages (if any?) should be removed before putting this in the kitchen?
Andy
i installed mi ie8 cab on my hp ipaq 214. but i dont know how to start it. where is exe?
so I tried instaling the cab file and I do not see any differences. It seems like an addon for the already existing PIE... ?
I looke at the OEM, and I am not sure what the differences are other than the new DLLs.
Can someone explain what the new features are?
I still can't see the myspace page normal. WTF?!
Ok guy more details...
The oem package must go in Sys folder togehter other Browsing folders, you must not delete anything!
Cook your room and enjoy, rember tu put flashlite also in your rom!
For IE8 probably need some other file, I'll try to cook in a rom to try it!

Congrats on that.
Did you try the first root folder and put the two inner folders in the sys?
Repack posted in post #1, this should work.
I have cooked this into my ROM and it all works OK apart from the IE home page. In the folder 'browsingie_LANG_0409' the .RGU file sets the home page to
Code:
"home_0409"="file://\\Windows\\iemo6_default_0409.htm"
and this file is included in the folder. When I launch IE though I get the 'Action canceled' page. I have verified the file is there and if I use File Exlporer to find the file and then open it, it all opens OK. If I open the file this way and then set it to the home page and then close and open IE the problem is still there so I am stuck as to what the issue is?
I have noticed similar behaviour with other .htm files as well; for example the JBlend0409.htm file when trying to access it via Help - you get 'Cannot open Help. The file cannot be found' however the file is there and the shortcuts are correct?
It is pretty weird?

hello guys, i dont own an hd2 yet but ill buy one this month but i have a question i want to add some cabs file on my device when i get. My question is i have download some cabs BUT when i open the winrar i dont get any cab file, all i get is some files that has bunch of numbers and one of them says "_setup.xml" so what should i do? should i directly put the winrar file on my hd2? since i dont get any cab file inside the winrar?? and if there's a cab file inside the winrar and i press the button "extract here" should i just upload the cab file only to my hd2 right??
Hope you guys can help me.
Thank you.
Hi.
A CAB file is a compressed installer file for mobile phones.
If you open it with winrar, you will see all the files it contains.
Just copy the original .cab file to your phone.
Click on the .cab file, and it will run the installer, and install the program on your phone.
You can choose to install to the main memory or the sd card.
Yeah - as above. What you're calling a "winrar" file is the cab file.
Extract a cab
Ok, I know this isn't the original question but...
is it possible to extract a .cab file - i mean to extract all the different files that make up the program , all the .exe .dll .ico etc etc. Wanting to do this to help me reverse-engineer a couple of omnia 2 cabs that don't work.

Tried that, all I get are 10 files. One of them is _setup.xml, the others are numbered files.
I've attached a screen capture of the files so you can see what they are.

Yes that's what you would expect as they are the cab install files.
If they don't mean anything are you sure you know what you're doing?
That's what I'm trying to find out. I assume that the WM program works in a similar way to windows program in that its a collection of files (exe, ico, dll, cfg so on so forth) that get installed in the appropriate places on the device. If so, how do you 'unpack' these files from the setup files
use a cab manager program. I don't so I can't recommend, but wincecab manager sound familiar. u can use them to create cabs of your tweaks, install files and such.
it seems that you have never used windows mobile (just copy the winrar file into the device and run it from the device)

I'm not trying to install a cab file (which the first post was about) I'm trying to decompile the omnia 2 video editor to get it to run on the HD2 but instead of starting a new thread, I asked on this one because it seemed (partially) relevant.
BTW, I've got the cab 'extracted' so thanks - no for the difficult part...

hey bro suddenly something came in my mind.just going to try that out.if it works, will let u know.

I haven't messed around much with OEM's myself, but the only thing to keep in mind is that if you shift a package from there to the EXT, you need to convert it to EXT format. Change .rgu's to app.reg files, delete the .dsm's, and get the proper folder structure. Once, I moved NETCF from a Sys to my EXT directory, not thinking about the folder conversion, and I ended up with a rom that didn't have net framework. It booted up ok, but let me tell you, that rom suck hard. It took me a while to figure out what I'd done wrong. Check your dump before flashing just to make sure all the files are included.
Random Access is the alphabet that appears on the right side of your contacts (and other places), and that gives you a quick shortcut to hop down to a specific letter. I'm guessing irsir.dll is some IR based driver? But if it's in your oem, then maybe it's something else. A quick google will definitely tell you what it is.
Edit: yeah irsir.dll is an ir driver:
IrDA Devices
Fast IR Driver nscirda.dll
Serial IR Driver Irsir.dll

Here's a thread that says you can remove irsir.dll if you don't have IR on your device. Not sure why they put it in, in that case.

Just create a new EXT, and move all the file you want into the \New EXT\Files folder, and if there's an associated .rgu, rename it app.reg and stick it in the \New EXT folder. That's pretty much all you have to do.

Not sure I am following correctly, but if you just want to move things to a new OEM folder so that you don't mess up the original OEM folder here is what I do.
Under the OEM folderI have a Rhodium folder. I just rename that to RhodiumOriginal and then make another folder Rhodium. now just copy everything to this folder and you can make changes without messing up the original folder. If soemthing doesn't work out, just delete the new folder and rename the original folder.
Just make sure that the folder you want to use is the first folder in the OEM directory or EVK won;t like it. If you rename the original folder to OriginalRhodium EVK won;t like it because O comes before R. Hope you understand that part. If not, EVK will let you know pretty quick there is a problem.
If i remember right you are using Mega EXT package right?
Well i guess you can delete OEM_app because is plenty of useless files with Mega Pack.
In OEM drivers i would not delete the dll folders and some dll file, but Autorun, commmanager, some ringtones and picture could be deleted without problem.
I suggest you to use an app for comapring folders,in 2nd thread there is one, for check both OEM and EXT and see which files are duplicated.

One thing I've found with the OEM is that if you convert the .provxml's to app.reg files (for the ones with registry operations-don't mess with ones that load certificates and what-not), it will really speed up your first boot-time. There's really no good reason, for instance, to have a provxml load your OEM version. Just put that in a .reg file and delete the .provxml. I get to the welcome screen in 90 s with most of the registry operations loaded into app.reg files, and during screen alignment, the cursor moves quickly. If you use autorun for customization, though, you need to leave alone the autoruncfg reg key that is in the 107 (think that's the one) provxml.

icons
can u help me with one more thing. i downloaded some icons. it does not have any other files but icons and album file. when i place the file into the windows directory. gives me an message that it can not be overitten due to not enough space and file is being used. how do i change go around it.
thks jelendel. for making file in to cab.
similar problems/questions
most cab files/apps i download and install are very straight forward and I save to storage card and there are right there on my "start" screen. others I download and I cant find them? I look through the file explorer but either cant find them or dont know what to do if I do find the file.
example, egg timer 1.0 -I can find it listed on "remove programs" page page so I know I got it. but how do I get it to a more 'usable' location.
another example. I want to get the Bluetooth toggle (BTtoggle) from pocketnow site. I downloaded the app, then it says I need to edit my registry (I understand the dangers of this) at
"HKLM\software\HTC\Manilla" and change the value of HomeLSKPath to the path to your BTtoggle.exe .....etc.....
First time editing registry, so sounds like I need to get a registry editor. I looked for a free one. CeRegEdit version 5.2.exe file. looks like it downloaded ok but I cant find on device??
LASTLY, I use CoOkies home editor and I really like it, but does that mean I cant do other changes/app installs to any HTC sense items/lock screen/home screen/etc? thanks for reading this far....steve
Or if you know of easier to get bluetooth toggle or any kind of timer applications so I dont burn food at the fire station, feel free to reccomend...Thanks

Aloha, and just because you're in civil service like that, I'll give you a hand with this one here...but it's usually best to open a new thread with a bunch of questions like that. You can just edit your post above to just say "moved to new thread", and then copy all that you wrote into a new thread you start...you'll probably get more views/responses that way too
These cabs will give you a toggle for bluetooth, wifi, and a reset button. Once you run the cab, you can find them in your start menu, but they're most useful when you assign them to one of the quicklink spots (on your home tab), just like you would any other program.
P.S. you'll find a lot more useful stuff for your new phone right here in these forums, and 99% of it is free, and known to work on the HD2 (unless stated otherwise). Start HERE and HERE
Hope someone can help.
As usual i am putting new cabs into my documents on the pc and syncing. But when i open file explorer, these new cabs are now showing as windows files that cannot be open as oppossed to cabs as they used to be.
I'm a bit of a noob ,so i'm not sure i have explained this very well but hopefully someone can help.
Thanks in advance.....
sounds like you are extracting the cabs to me, i just have a folder on my sd card i call general crap, and i copy all my cabs in there, go to file explorer sd card then general crap then click on what i want to install
Thanks very much for the swift response. Its very odd that this has started happening all of a sudden. Some cabs ie wallpapers, are going into my documents, but others as i said seem to now be windows files and not cabs, once they are in my documents and cannot be opened, very very frustrating !! I'll try what you said this evening and see if it works, but i cannot understand why it would all of a sudden be extracted when thats never been the case before ?
I'm sure i must have changed something, but i wish i new what
Cheers again for your help. I would be lost without this site, and my HD2 would be no-where near as much fun.
Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. Files still appear as window type files that i cannot open instead of the usual cabs. Wish i new whats changed, but unless anyone has a suggestion, i can feel a dreaded hard reset coming on !!!
Can you not just explore your device with activesync and copy the files manually, rather than using some method of synching? Or, connect as a USB drive and copy the files to your memory card. Either they're not actually cab installers, or the sync process is doing something to them.
Just tried both your suggestions, but with no luck. But thanks anyway for the reply. Wish i new what has changed but something has .

What actually happens then when you click a cab file? Do any old cab files work, or is it now all cab files that won't work?
It says " The file ????? cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file "
You can see before you try to open it that its not right, as i say , it appears to be a window file not a cab, once it goes on my device, though judging by the size of the file it is all there !!!
Wallpaper cabs seem to be working for some reason though.
Using your PC, browse to the folder on your phone and see what the file is called. If it doesn't look like a cab file should, then it probably won't have a .cab extension. (I only say this because the file explorer on the phone does not show file extensions. Your PC may not be set up to do so either though. The alternative is to use Total Commander or Resco to see what the file extension is.)
Can you give me a link to a cab file that doesn't work for you?

Well the link you gave me is a zip file with a cab file in it, so you would need to unzip it first. Cab files are actually a format of compression, so it's likely that a cab file and a zip file would have the same icon on your PC. It's for reasons like that that I always make sure to have file extensions switched on on my PC.
Try unzipping it and copying the contents to your phone and see how you get on with that.
