Call waiting needs to be enabled by the network operator. Have you tried this SIM card in your other phone to see if it is to do with the operator or the handset?

No phone I know of will tell the other person that they are waiting, that is a network function. For example in the UK with landlines if you call a BT phone the person calling will get "The other person knows you are waiting, please hold" or something similar while they are talking to someone else. This is a network property not a handset one.
---
The only exception is devices like those made by Gigabyte, but to my knowledge HTC do not have this property.
He mean the well known problem in WM5 (and WM6) that enventualy mess with the alert queue. I got the problem and I solve it with the automatic clean-up of the program MemMaid.

Oh! Apologies, I thought you meant a signal the caller gets...
Notification Alert Queue's can be cleared with MemMaid, and I think SKTools can also help

From what they have said it sounds like you use MemMaid (http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/) to fix your alert queue. It has a "Rebuild the queue" option in it. Mahjong apparently uses MemMaid's scheduling abilities to automatically clean his phone, which solves the problem for him. I don't have this problem but hopefully that makes sense to you and helps you.
good
this is very important for pocketpc and ithing we must go for it any idea thanks

1) Search Google for Memmaid.
2) Install it in your PDA
3) Run MemMaid QuickClean (you will find it under Programs once you install Memmaid)
4) Done
This solve the problem to me.
Ah I almost forgot to mention that I learned about those 4 steps reading the messages at xda-developers.com... The Search option you find in the top of every page is a great tool.
Best regards,

I think you guys must be confused...
In my case, when i call someone that is on a call with call waiting activated on my HTC Touch doesn't "say" anything. On my old Nokia it "says" Waiting.
Another think i noticed is when i receive a diverted call on the old phone says "diverted call" and then put a simbol before the number. On my new phone no information about it is displayed.
I know this happens with HTC's... don't know about other brands...
Can anyone know if there is any app that can make the phone "smarter" in this case?

Based of the IIWPO solution initially meant for Wallaby devices (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2526), I created a customizable installer for Himalaya:
See the Wiki page on IIWPO

Hopefully IIWPO suprises a lot of thiefs!!!!!
This is way too cool! I really love this software. I hope never to have to rely on it but just to know its there will make me sleep better. Thanks.
Wow!
The link doesn't work, but... there is or could you do something like that for the PDA2K?
Thanks!

Edsub,
I am wondering if the already excellent IIWPO could be further enhanced by a simple but witty add-on. I am imagining the capability to receive a Kill-Signal via SMS. If all attemps to recover the phone fails because the person who holds it has not put in a full & proper owner name + address we still have a phone number right? Therefore we can send an SMS to the phone at will. If IIWPO listens for a specific sms subject line then we could instruct it to disable the phone in some fashion that can be reversed and display a message to this end "tell" the thief to return the phone no questions asked etc. If still no luck then we could send a signal forever killing the phone. Am I watching too many spy movies? ;-)
Hope you like the idea. Sounds fun to me. Regards
I like the idea  , but since am not a CE developer (and I did not develop IIWPO either, just put the parts that were there together for use on a Himalaya) I have no idea whether or not this is possible.
Maybe any of the real xda-developers see a possibility here :?:

This is possible, and was used on an HP Jornado 928 ...
On this handset, a simple SMS containing a specific codeword or PIN would 'lock' the handset so that it could not be used. Quite useful and as far as I know unique to the HP Jornado 928.
Anyone know any different ?
Cheers
Mark
wow!! this would be great for the PPC! ive tried something like this in my symbian NOKIA 6600! and its very useful!! if you change the sim the phone will automatically send a message to your predefined numbers containing some info on the current location of your phone... and if you send a code to it thru SMS it will lock up and it cant be used unless you flash it or something.. i bet the PPC version is even greater!! cant wait for a full version!

I would like the facility to electrocute the new "owner" through the ear when he makes a call, 50,000 volts would be fine. Or maybe a spring bolt that would activate and shatter his jaw.
Perhaps the local police station...

My wife lost her handphone to some dishonest fella who picks it up and perhaps remove the SIM/off the HP.
Perhaps we can have it SMS your selected police station on startup and replay an SMS with your customised message:
"Yeah baby! I've stolen this handphone and there is NOTHING that you bloody incompetent slobs can do about it! <vulgarities applied here>!"
<repeat 100 times>
In my country, we can have different numbers for neighbourhood police post. The SMS will be repeated as a robotic voice message to the LAND phone as well.
I can at least ensure that the message does not go into a generic 911 number.

I do not know the code, I know in newer WM6 roms there are no beep on busy.
Try to flash WM6
I won`t do that cause I am not a specialist in flashing and I am very pleased by the device as it is. is just this annoying sound and the wi fi problem, nothing else.

no need to flash... must be a simple register key, but I do not have that piece of information.

you can delete the key or remove the path to the .wav file
useless
the tone is called "busy" and I found it in windows directory, but it can`t be deleted and it doesn`t appear in HKLM/software/htc/phone.

hi all,
i've been looking for the outgoing call waiting notification feature since the very first time i've started using windows mobile phones.. its like this; when i call someone and that someone is on a call with another person, i should get a message saying that the person is on a call so that i'd know that he is busy with another call.. this feature is on the very oldest fones and its a shame that its not on windows mobiles.. well, not a shame really, the "great" iphone doesnt have it either anyways, its a great feature to have.. it seem the feature is missing in windows mobile, microsoft must've missed it in the making.. however, after a looooooong time, i've read around the net that the samsung omnia displays this notification saying tht the party am calling is on a call so that i'd know that am disturbing a person on a call.. can anyone confirm this and try to rip it off the omnias rom so that we can use it on other windows mobile phones?? if so its gonna be a dream come true for all windows mobile users..
Very true! i'm also awaiting this missing functioanlity in Windows Mobile.
I Guess we should post this thread in the general section of this forum. If possible Admin move this thread there to get better exposure! and quick solution by our great xda team!
I seriously need this fuction. Anybody managed to fix this ? Please help !
does anyone have an omnia to check this and mix some files from the omnia's with the touch hd..?
I'm very interesting in this post and the solution if it has... It´s very much time with this problem... None of the experts can help us in this post...

I don't have this problem.
If i call someone and this person is in a call i can hear that.

Thats because your operator does that for you.. not all operators does this.. but all fones except winmo and iphone shows a notification saying the other party is on a call.. but whats interesting is the SAMSUNG OMNIA can do this and its winmo.. so if it can, it means all winmo can do it..
and whats sad is, no one can still mix up the files of the OMNIA with the touch hd (or any other winmo fone). is there anyone out there who knows how to mess with stuff and who is willing to do some experimenting? comon guys, its really a wish come true for all of us winmo users..

i dont think it has something to do with the applications but I just cannot understand how it is working on ohmnia !!!!!!!
So much time without solution, I think that the problem will never be solved.
Regards friends,
i do hear a busy tone and on the phone screen i get "busy". why don't you???
This is something the operator does. First of all, the person you are calling should have the 'call waiting' service enabled. Then if you call him/her, the operator should provide you with different tone (not calling or busy) and you will know that the other party is in a call and he/she will get a notification that you are waiting on the second line (that's also done by the operator). So don't blame Microsoft for something that's not actualy their fault. Blame them for something that's their fault .

I think you are not getting anything here. I have the same sim card and the same services running and I am calling the same party... I get a Waiting popup message on the screen with NOKIA phones and Connecting... with WM device. Anybody can confirm that the notification works with omnia ?
yeah xeon, i gues its me and u only who gets what we're talking about.. different tone or not, other fones including nokias, motorolas, sony ericssons and all shows a message saying that the other party is on a call.. and about windows mobile, i donno about the xperia but the omnia does this for sure, i checked it myself.. a litte waiting text shows up in the fone app, where the operator name is mostly.. anyways, is there any person who'd like to help us out by checking in omnia?? and maybe they could extract files from the omnia's rom which can/might be able to use on other windows mobile fones.. i guess microsoft did miss out an important feature.. i guess they are to blame..
even htc did miss it out in their dial pad.. but samsung have included the feature in their dial pad, so i think its more than possible for us to have this feature on all windows mobile phones coz yota contacts came to our fones, xtrakt can be played on out hds, the facebook app in wm 6.5 can be used, and there are so many more.. i just wish a developer with an omnia who is interested in this feature would help us
look at my pic in post 14. what else do you expect? what else do u need? a pop-up notice? anyway, imho the most important thing here is the "busy" tone i get because even if i'll have a full screen pop-up i'll probably miss it when the phone is at my ear and probably with the screen off already.

no my friend.. thats because the person who u call has call waiting disabled.. that happens to all of us too.. the REAL case is, if the person who u are calling is on a call WITH call waiting ENABLED, we should know that he is on a call/i am on waiting instead of ringing continuosly without us knowing he's on a call and am on waiting.. hope this clears your doubt..

I expect What other phones do. We should not get Connecting.. or Busy ( actually u cannot get busy because you will get disconnected and you shouldnt for a simple reason that the other party should have the possibility to swap between you and the other person on hold ). I will explain it for the last time :
When you call someone the phone status is :
1- Dialing ... --> Connected, the phone vibrates and the screen goes off
--> Busy, the other party is no accepting calls and has
call waiting feature disabled. Line is dropped
Now when you dial a person number that has the call waiting enabled other phones behave like :
2- Dialing... --> Connecting, Waiting notification on your screen and the other party receives a request to either reject you
( this is where you get the busy) or accept your call...
and hence you get connected and the screen goes off.
Now with HD, You do not get any hint that the person you are calling is currently having a conversation with someone else and you keep on waiting for him to either answer or reject you whereas with Omnia you do.

He wanted to know how he can have a short vibrate-signal when a call connection is established (e.g. when answering a phone call, the phone vibrates one short time and shows you that you can speak now)
Try Yota Contacts. It also has the vibrate when call picked up feature.

Hello everyone!
Since always I found that on my X1i (generic_uk 3AA) the Ring and Vibrate changes back to just 'ring' after a restart.
Is there any way to make this Ring and Vibrate "permanent" even after a restart? I looked into the Registry but did not find a proper value to mess around with ....
I had now 6 or 7 of those X1s and this last one is 09W23(!) and still does that.
Help is appreciated
What is this... nobody has the same problem and/or nobody knows a registry 'trick' or other means to solve that either?

Just checked mine - after a restart it is still set to vibrate and ring
BUT i am running Vodafone UK - i actually prefered it to generic but since i am using a different rom i cant say properly although they are very similar - see what someone with the same firmware says.
Dont know how to fix though sorry
Hey, thanks for answering. I have voice command installed and a photo contact program that includes ring selections. Even though I don't use those, one never knows if these interfere somwhow.
But there should be some here who know a registry setting and/or have the same problem and solved it somehow.
In any case.... waiting for now....
