Pointui Home 2 In Development
15-October-2008
No prizes for guessing a new version is in development. Those who donated received an email about our intentions moving forward with Home version 2.0, we'd like to that everyone who kept it to themselves.
While we're behind on our original targets, what have completed so far is fulfilling everything we want for a second version.
We have every intention on keeping everyone informed about what is going on during the development and that starts with one of the most important points raised by our community, a paid version of Home.
There will be two editions of Home 2.0, free and paid. They will differ in the depth of functionality. Home 2.0 Free will in its own right be a Today screen replacement with functionality that other companies charge for. Home 2.0 (as the paid version will be known) will offer a deeper level of the Pointui experience.
Details on what the differences will be in the free and paid editions and when alpha/beta testing commences will be announced in the near future.
this explaines a few things like:
Why we saw the start icon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386233
And they would make a paid version.
and many more quistions.
Are you guys willing to pay for Pointui?
And what do you aspect of version 2?
Sorry for my bad english!
i hope this version will work with Omnia i900
I would pay for the full version. The app is already outstanding and if paying for it furthers customization options then I'd definitely cough up!
Im just want then to release the v2, cause they take ages to release any version.
If they continue like this they will release it by the year 2099
first, lets see if they get it done in a timely fashion
If you are going to pay you are better off buying SPB Mobile Shell as its suerb and has tons of extra skins for it. It also runs better than any other UI and ver crashes. So would I pay for PointUI 2? NO unless it is totally amazing.
I would not pay for it, there is throttlelauncher & ultimatelauncher which are free ! omg ! so no.

UltimateLaunch is NOT free!
Nope its not, but being nagware is as close to being free as pennypinchers are going to get. It also doesn't have any Advantages of more functionality if you pay for it.
In essence, if you can handle the nagging (and lets be honest, it not exactly a MAJOR inconvenience) it is free.
Thats not to say that you shouldn't register it. It will keep up developement of a fantastic piece of software.
Cheers...
Mind you, I haven't used it for a while and this may have changed.....
I don't know yet if I would pay for it or not. if it looks good, if doesn't tax my phone's memory too hard, if its fast in its operations, and supports my device then I would think about buying it.
Why not to pay, if you like the software, and support it ?
I trend to never understand why people won't pay for a software they use...
If it's freeware, there is no problem !
But if the dev wants to make his soft payware, please keep in mind that there are severals (many !) thousands of hours of coding behind that...
So, 2 solutions, in the case of PointUI :
1 - Still use the V1, wich is a fully functionnal version... and stay happy with it, or upgrade with the FREE V2 version (seen on the poinui's website, there will be a free V2 version...)
2 - Upgrade to a paying version with more "bell and whistle" and much more funtionnalities... and pay for all the hard work all the PoinUI have made...
I think the choice is ... binary !
Personnaly, i'm fed up with all these a-la-Iphone interfaces... Our devices are not made to be scratched with greasy fingers (i own a QTEK S200, and the touch screen is really not made for a 100% finger interface)
I've tested PoinUI, it is really eye-candy and smooth interface... But this is "only" a gift paper over my Today's screen
Soo i've uninstalled it, and prefer to keep my Today's screen as busy as possible...
Just my 2 (euro)Cents (and now, they are valuable, 0.27 us Dollars ! )
Why not pay for something if you think its useful AND it provides different functionality to other products? Obviously we cannot fully judge if 2.0 will be worth paying for but so far all the other software mentioned are nothing more than glorified launchers. If pointui goes the same route then there is really nothing worth paying for but if, as they say their customizations go deeper into the OS why not pay for it? Hopefully there will be a trial version and lets not forget there will still be a free version.
I really dont understand the growing unwillingness to pay for software, its not as though SPB Shell, which is often touted as being the best, is free. Or how about Thumbcal which is now commercial after starting out as a free product.
There is a wide range of free and commercial apps available so you do have a choice, but lets not drive away developers who are willing to produce applications for WM just because society has a "it better be free or else" mindset.
Sorry man... I prolly wont pay anymore... I would if it was anywhere before manila2D... but now that manila2D is released, i love it to death... sorry once again... home ran fine on my phone, just that it was very limited in functionality compared to Manila... But I wish you all the luck for all the people who cant run manila... i think the second best option for anyphone is PointUI... Congrats on v2 dev...
^^ manila 2d eats memory, pointui doesn't
Pointui eats BATTERY and manila 2d doesn't. but i'm also looking forward to the release.
IMO, the thing that killed PointUI was the LOOONG drought between updates. When the first release hit, it spread like wildfire through the community, and we were all ready and willing to pay for it. But then it just kinda dropped off the map. Now its coming back into play, which is cool, but now the UI race has some big-time players in the mix, which are free, and offer things that PointUI does not. It will do well for older machines incapable of running M2D, or the impending stable version of M3D - but instead of striking while the iron was hot, too much time has passed between releases. Its buying the DVD version of Iron-man - but after your buddy gave you a Blu-ray version. which do you keep?
I would remind you all that Manilla 2D is only free because it has been hacked out of new HTC phones... it's not 'actually' free software... only those who bought a phone with it on are technically licensed to use it...
For crying out loud, add an option to REVERSE THE SCROLL with the next version of PointUI. I don't understand why the developers are so stubborn with this feature, although all the other apps use the intuitive version of finger scrolling. What's the point of swimming against the current when You know there is a waterfall coming?
I'm not being funny BUT.
I've USED iPhone interface, SPB, Wisbar, TouchFlo3D, Throttlelauncher etc...
The one I keep coming back to is TouchFlo3D.
Now that's something isn't it?
People are cloning TF3D like they did with iPhone because it's so great.
And since TF3D is better (in my view) than iPhone, Diamond and Raphael users can perhaps relax and save the time seeking the best UI.
I've been using Manila 2D for a while now, and today I thought I'd give PointUI 1.51a a go again.
I now remember why I was a fan for so long! It's definitely better than M2D or TF3D in many aspects, so if v2.0 is an improvement that is customisable, supported and stable, then I'll definitely consider buying the full version.
When will it arrive is the real question!

Has anyone one (Maybe other hams perhaps?) thought of duplicating this program on Android? It would be a perfect addition. And doesn't require a hack to accomplish on android. It requires a jailbreak on the iPhone.
Anyone interested?
This looks pretty cool. I don't know Morse code aside from SOS, but I'd learn it for the cool factor of using a keyboard like that.
I learned morse code to get an amateur radio license 20 years ago, then pretty much forgot it. That's a pretty cool little program.
Ah I bet you could pick it up pretty easily. Are you still active? We should set up a sked.

Ok, I know I'm jumping the gun, but I thought this would be a good idea. We'll need somewhere to list and discuss apps for the Evo. I know discussions will go far beyond this thread, but a place to compile a list and links to download or for instructions or to troubleshoot and so on and so forth will be handy.
I'm not sure what I'm doing, but it appears the size of posts is limited and from what I've seen the thing to do is to reserve some space at the beginning of the thread to make helpful information throughout the thread easily accessible at the beginning so I'm going to reserve some space if I can.
Advice is welcome. Please offer advice. If I choke (and embarass myself) and end up not getting an Evo (not likely as I think I want it more than sex) or fail to keep the thread updated I'm gessing we have other options like an administrator letting someone else edit my posts or moving info to a better thread or something.
I'm thinking this could get to be a huge thread so I think I'll reserve 3 more posts. If that's too many I guess they can be deleted. If we need more can an administrator insert them? If you have ideas on how we should structure this please speak up.
Since I'm jumping the gun I guess the place to start is with what we think it will come loaded with and what we want it to come with. Eventually we'll just list what's available for the Evo.
I've never done this and may prove to be unreliable and considered just making this a suggestion so if anyone is experienced and gung-ho about it and wants to take over right now feel free to step up.

UPDATE 04/06/10 1145PM EST: LOL
bad idea?
Should I request deleting? I've never used Android so I seriously am looking for help finding, installing, and getting through issues. I know there are other clueless people like me also so why not make a one stop shop for the apps this phone can use.
One thing I think I may have just realized is where to get apps. I'm a winmo user and I think I've only bought one app and never understood why anyone needed Marketplace. I've downloaded apps from all over the internet and never even been to Marketplace. Are all (or most, or what) Android apps at android.com? I read there were like 30,000 android apps, but haven't seen them. I figured a market was an iphone thing.
Some of the best threads I've read were very well organized and were updated to make info easy to find. Some threads look promising, but get really long and you never know when you'll find what you're actually looking for. Maybe I just don't search well, but often what I think is a good search produces unsatifying results. This site is huge now and very difficult to search.
I really would love input from senior members and would like to know as much as possible before I get this phone. I have actually been worried about switching over to Android, but the new hardware and network seem too good(not to mention the new windows direction). I've heard good stuff about Android, but just don't understand it.
I'm worried about being stuck with just 5 or 7 screens. I know windows has to use apps to get it's multiple screens (UL, ilaunch, claunch...), but I haven't heard of anythig like that with Android. I've settled into touchflo and really like using the slider rather than flicking like I did with UL (especially multiple times to get where I want).
I'm under the impression the Android screens are customizable in that you can use shortcuts or widgets, but I'd like to have several full screen widgets (more than 6) and a launcher and a home screen with more info (even more than touchflo/sense on winmo). Is there anything like that?
Please tell me (and other untechies) about Android. Don't be a johnson. Sorry, couldn't pass that up.
hey I'm an asshole... and proud of it... I'm not known for my kindness
POW! -> http://www.androlib.com/
you say you want 5-7 homescreens now.... wait till you use it... you might use 3-4.... MAYBE... I only use 2, but hey that's me. Also if you are that freaking skitso there's a homescreen replacement out there with up to 10 or 13 or something absolutely retarded amount of homescreens if you MUST have that many.
You can customize like there's no tomorrow, makes winmo look like a gimped iphone in that respect. You can change basically every aspect of everything if you look hard enough.
Touchflow is senceUI... senceUI is touchflow... same exact thing. If you don't like your senceUI (what will come with the evo), you can do the vanillia android home if you want, or enjoy one of the many many homescreen replacements, of which there is about a thousand different themes for icons menus screens title bars etc etc etc etc etc.
watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZSeLuJBWDU
the apps don't run on the 5-7 screens, they're separate and "unlimited" based off of available ram, if you use up resources it closes the one android feels you aren't useing anymore to free up ram for your running app. It isn't as bad as it sounds in practical use, you won't notice it closing stuff in the background, the screens are only for widgets like in the video.
Like I said, customize your heart out. You don't have to be a rocket surgeon either, download a app, maybe a buck or two and go to town. There's free options, but it's not paying some big fruit company it's going into the developer's pockets so give them a buck if you like it. I have never paid over a dollar for any app I buy... and I have like 20 I felt the need to pay for. Small change in comparison to what I pay each month to use the phone... or what I paid for the phone in the first place.
Compare to a desktop or laptop and the amount of usage for a paid app... much better ratio of fun for price.
no need for this topic in my opinion, I'd recommend it be deleted, but it's your call if you feel like updating it with what you find useful in the link I provided.
I want a dollar for my time... thanks.

Most legit apps can be found in the Marketplace, both free and for $$. Off and on, you may see someone post up an app here that they're working on, but the eventual goal is to get it in the Marketplace for the most part. It seems that you went looking for Moby ****, and only found a white whale!

What's in your Evo you ask?
A 1GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor, the award-winning HTC SenseTM user experience, an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. The large vibrant 4.3 inch display, built-in kickstand, 3.5 mm headset jack and HDMI output make HTC EVO 4G an unparalleled platform for wireless entertainment. Sir, for that, I bestow apon you +5,000 internets
universal remote/dongle
Anyone know of anything like Totalremote from Griffin that can use the sound to ir converter for phones without an ir port?
I bought Totalremote with the converter off ebay to experiment with on my Mogul, but can't get it to work (it works on my ipaq). The Mogul just has no universal remote solution (unless I can get the ipod method from Engadget working, for which I'll have to get a male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm cord one of these days).
Since I have the converter I'm hoping there will end up being an Android version of Totalremote. I'm very hopefull since iphone is doing one using the headphone jack and since for some reason HTC has moved their jack to the top of the phone (makes you wonder).
40,000 apps to browse?
Ok, so I'm thinking 40,000 Android apps to browse through might be a little overwhelming.
Anyone care to discuss/recommend their favorite or essential Android apps and perhaps throw up links directly to them?

this thread made me spit my mountain dew all over my hero. i hope your happy.
1)metamorph(rooted only; easily changes certain aspects of your phone whereas a flash might change others along with it)
2)wireless tether(rooted only)
3)facebook(not sense's watered down version)
4)estrong task manager (comes with a killall widget)
5)cachemate(makes your phone zippy when used correctly)
6)handcent(oh man...)
7)linda file manager(seems to be the best one, to me)
8)some sort of battery percentage widget(i actually havent settled on one yet)
9)picsaypro(mini photoshop on your phone)
10)google voice(google it)
11)iMusic+widget(limewire on your phone)
edit:
i compiled this list by simply sliding through my app drawer, but didnt even think; the fact is, with the latest 2.1 builds theres litterally NO i.s., so i do my best to keep my app download-age as low as possible. theres actually alot of apps i download, install, use, then uninstall. a fun game you can check out it What The Doodle?! online multiplayer...draw on screen your keyword, people try to guess. I cant remember the name of the other game...Attack!! or somethig. your a cow and you tilt the phone to jump from platform to platform (like teeter, but with a cow, and the final destination is a spaceship)
i expect with the evo i.s. wont be an issue (1g?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?) so maybe ill update the list as i feel the need to remember a long lost app and redownload it.
Looking at getting a new smart watch.... I currently have this one

I want to be able to install apps on it aswell.... The KDTI one I have doesnt have app store on it or anything... I would love to install stuff like this

Help me choose a new watch guys! I prefer circular rather then square face....
The most good Themes on Playstore are not free. Is there a good site for free themes or a telegram group for lg themes?
You don't think good themes are worth paying ~$2? Im sure if you have a G6, you wont notice $2 from your bank account.
I think the free themes from LG are boring and lame. Sucks there's not many free themes and I"m on a fixed income so i choose wisely if i have to buy one. i just finally found a green one I love so i paid for it without hesitation. That being said i miss my 10-15 free themes i had on my GS7. so much i can't wait to get another Galaxy though i hate the curved screens and fingerprint scanner placement. The G6 has the best working fingerprint reader that works for my fingers of the phones i've had. I don't understand why LG doesn't open the theme store to 3rd party developers so the themes can all be found in a central place. And why they have such dorky themes. reminds me of the dorky boring themes Google offered for the Chrome browser before they allowed third party themes. The G6 would do better if their theme site was more flexible, if they tweaked their camera software and other stuff that could be tweaked better and better advertising if they hadn't already. but then again the average person don't use themes, i don't know anyone personally who does even though i encourage them to take advantage of the cool themes in the Samsung theme store. The average person don't care if the picture is too blue or red or whatever. just look at the photos on Facebook people post. stuff that i would delete immediately like blurring or totally orange selfies with bad white balance. sorry i drifted off topic.
Have you installed smart world there's many free themes in there
Do themes have a performance impact on the g6?

They do allow 3rd party themes you just need a developer account on lg smart world.
I like this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.theme.pixel.ui&hl=cs
The phone looks much better, the original LG themes are so ugly and does not look good with icons of 3rd party apps.
And it is not so expensive, you can't expect somebody doing nice themes for free...

There is only a handful of theme developers at the moment, I believe some do but you can also find them on the google play store.

It takes some digging to find them on the Play Store. I already knew they were there. But it would be easier if they were uploaded to Smartworld where they can all be together to be found easier. Like Samsung's theme store and app. I can't wait to go back to a Samsung phone because of that. And other reasons.
