i THINK its the Canadian version of the titan...
my problem is it only has 48.54MB of program memory and it just isn't enough...
is this the right amount?
can I have it upgraded?
and i somehow change storage memory into program memory?

Welcome to the "I-want-more-RAM" club.
I wish there was a way to add more RAM to this sucker but unfortunately there isn't. Only thing left to do is hope someone comes up with a custom ROM or wait for HTC to come up with answers.

i remember
i remember people doing custom ram upgrades for ipaqs wayyyy back in the day. like 64 to 128meg upgrades and such for a couple hundred bucks.
i guess nobodys doing this for our HTCs yet?

that company, called PPC-techs, has long since stopped supporting new devices. Back then, people were willing to spend top dollar to add more memory for $500+ devices. Nowadays, the business isn't so lucrative. So, they stopped offering it.
I wouldn't hold my breath.

but it should be possible, no? im pretty handy with a soldering iron and ive done RAM upgrades on xboxes before, i wonder wht it would take to get more info on this

hmm a fellow xbox modder
if youve upgraded the ram in your xbox, you should be facing the same thing here. ppcgeeks has a thread with a disassembled mogul where you can see the memory chip on the board. let me know how it goes...

consider yourself lucky to have 1.5mb's more then the sprint mogul
-mark

there is *a lot* to ram than just swapping a few ics. the paging has to be the same and the phone itself has to be capable of allocating the extra ram. the reason xbox upgrades worked was because the boards were built the same as the dev kits which had double the ram. the xbox just didn't have the memory chips for the extra ram and you could solder them in the spots they went. actually replacing a memory chip is damn-near impossible without a lot of ****ing around

right...im not capable of doing it...i thought defaultdotxbe said he had done it, but i guess i never realized the xbox board had a blank spot for a ram chip? i always thought the chips were swapped out. i knew the dev kits had 128mb but i thought they just had different chips in the same spots? its been too long.. (not trying to turn this into an xbox thread, i see it as relevant..)
so say we do find a chip with the same paging as the (samsung?) chip on the mogul board, WM6 is capable of allocating the extra ram, do we know if MSM7500 can see it?

We just need a CDMA Kaiser, J/K not really though.

there's the xbox motherboard...i doubt that the kernel was made with the ability to allocate more than the set amount of ram but i'm not familiar with how windows ce allocates its ram...it has changed so much over the different iterations

well sicne that website had done the upgrades in the past (and assuming its a purely economical reason that they dont do it anymore as opposed to changes in the CE kernel) i would think upgrading the ram on the mogul would just be a matter of desoldering the chip and soldering a new one on
of course this is why i was hopign for more info on the subject

Android + Existing Phones = ??

Yeah, Google has just announced that Android is a platform there is no real GPhone. ok. I'm sure a lot of us are more than interested in getting this platform on our existing phone.
My question to those who understand the internals of our existing HTC phones. Is there hope for us to scrap WinMo and put Android instead. Their website makes it sound like it can be done.
What do you think?
I don't know the answer to that, but it sure seems like it, e specially since Sprint and other carriers are also joining hte Open handset alliance, they may provide support for linking Android with their services and configuration. I can't wait.
Wasn't there a pooled $$ reward that someone set up for the first person who could get Win XP running on the new Intel macs (prior to bootcamp). I suggest a similar motivational scheme (if necessary) to compensate whoever can accomplish a similar feat: getting Android to run on existing HTC hardware.
Anyone interested?
That would be super cool. I mean, I really can't wait...
What if we start a fund-raiser managed by the admins to request donations from members towards the reward? I'm sure that would be even more motivating.
Pool
I would love to start a pool too! The only problem is there are too many devices to support. With getting XP to run on an Intel mac, they all run the same hardware. My Athena is a lot different then somebodies universal or wizard. I'm guessing it will be just like the efforts to port linux over to our handsets. I'm hoping for my device to be able to run it but it would be a huge effort to be able to support all the devices.

It may not be that hard (theoretically) because they (OHA) did all the ground work of getting linux to run on our devices. The work (I think) is in dealing with the customizations for each device. The min requirements they stated seem well below what most of our devices are capable of, so that shouldn't be a problem either. Maybe we'll just have to wait until a device from HTC with that ROM comes out.
WARNING!! I absolutely am talking out of no knowlege.

HTC and Google are working together to release a new phone that will run on the Android platform. The phone will reportedly have a 3- by 5-inch swivel screen like the SideKick that will automatically rotate from portrait to landscape. It will have a full QWERTY keyboard as well, but the coolest part about the phone is the "time-sensitive" touch menus that will expand depending on how long the users touch the screen.
According to Engadget Mobile, this should show up sometime in the second half of 2008.

It is possible, but as far as I know it, it didn't work quite well... Maybe we shall have better support when Android comes out.

Think of this though, we're struggling at the moment dealing with stability and functionality issues with WinMo on our devices made for that platform. How much more with a totally alien OS coded by a single individual. In as much as I think it was a great achievement, I do not think it was a workable substitute for WinMo. This however presents a huge posibility ..... my .02.

Haha... and good drivers for this chip
Any news of this from MWC2009?
To be honest, because of the low sales of the X7510, they are not going to change anything in the new version just so they can get rid of their excess hardware stock. I feel they will only upgrade the following:
Capacitive screen
Bigger resolution
Bigger ROM and RAM
and the rest stays the same...
Just look at what they did with the new HTC Touch PRO 2. Nothing new, still the same old device with a few changes. No big leaps...nothing...
Maybe we can hope that we get hold of a new ROM that the cooks might be able to tweak for our existing devices?
HTV Thoth
The HTC Advantage 4 will be the coolest device ever. It has time travel something like the Apple Time Machine. 3D hologram chat, which means you can see your girlfriend live in front of you. An option to dump windows OS for Apple iphone OS. 15 million pixel camera, a laser beam to defend yourself like Star Wars.
Please place your orders with HTC right now.

Ha-ha-ha, cool!
Thoth: More info, 09-2009 release date?
The big news (rumored, not confirmed) is that the processor and RAM/ROM will be upgraded:
HTC 7500/7501/7510 http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Athena?t=anon :
Processor: 624 MHz, Intel PXA270
RAM: 128 MB
ROM: 256 MB
Thoth:
Processor: 1GMHz Qualcomm 8250
RAM: 256 MB
ROM: 512 MB
Additionally, 5.0MP camera, and 480x800 screen.
Still no word on SSD, but I would estimate at least 32GB, but hoping for 64GB!

Any news/info about the Thoth/Athena 2?
I can't found at FCC site.
Hopefully something will be released soon:

http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=8549
All very tenuous so far. Looks like nothing until 2010...
I hope they release a clamshell device.
If you look at the way HTC's site is configured, it is set up for:
Touch
Touch/type
type only
Since the Athena is touch/type I doubt it be a clamshell, but there are other devices that may be like the Shift
They really should resume development of the Thoth, it seems its time has really come now with the release of the Apple iPad, the Amazon kindle, the Dell mini 5 or even the Samsung mondi, it seems everyone is racing to fill in that sweet spot between maximum portability and capability.
As far as I see it, the htc athena / advantage was years ahead of its time, and consumer demand is only now beginning to catch up with these sort of toss it on the couch when your done surfing the web type devices.
And with Fennec, aka Firefox Mobile about to be released in a few months, with full desktop style youtube and google video support, it will be prime time for the Thoth to establish itself as the original iPad, Kindle, Mini 5, and Slate Pc killer.
C'mon HTC: don't miss out on this opportunity.

Possible to transplant the radio from the Hero to the Evo making it 3G-only?

This is a question for those familiar with the innards of the HTC phones.
Do you think it would be possible to put a Hero's radio inside of an Evo, thus making a 3G-only "Hevo" that has the horsepower of an Evo but the 3G-only radio of a Hero?
Obviously, this would take some expertise -- perhaps some work with a reflow machine or something of that nature to actually move the tiny chip -- but is there one single chip that could be physically swapped which would essentially change the ESN on a phone?
If the chip was physically swapped, would this have any chance of working from a technical standpoint? Could an Evo function if it had the radio of a Hero? If not with a stock ROM, perhaps with a third-party ROM?
Thoughts?
To what end? How is that different than just turning off 4g?
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
I have no idea but I just wanted to ask.... why? I don't think this one deserves an answer of "because we can" either.

With enough money I'm sure anything is possible but you have programming that might correlate with or to that radio. Just like the issue with HTC putting a different camera in the Evo is causing some problems. Imaging swapping a radio what kind of problems you would encounter. Sounds like a major pain the the a$$ with a huge probability that it would not work. Not to mention that is one reason the Evo is the $h1t because it has 4G.
i think the answer is NO. sounds to me that someone doesn't want to to pay for 4g service. i agree the extra $10 sucks because where i live i don't have 4g. but im not going to frakenstein my evo either.
Different chips with different pinouts... Never happen.

To me it sounds like the OP wants to move the radio chip from his Hero so that he can sort of clone his Hero's ESN. I'm no expert on the subject, but I think a standard cloning procedure would be a lot easier.
FWIW, the chip on the Evo's motherboard that handles 4G/WIMAX is separate from the 3G radio chip. It's the Sequans SQN1210. I suppose if you're really that desperate to get away from the $10/month "4G fee" (that's not really just for 4G) then you could desolder it from the motherboard and then take it up to a Sprint store and see if you can get them to remove your premium data fee from your monthly bill. While you're at the store, ask for the 10% S.T.U.P.I.D. discount.
P.S. the 3G radio in the Evo is actually included in the QSD8650 chip. Yes, this chip includes the main CPU, GPU, CDMA radio, and even a GSM radio. To do this swap, you'll need to use a lot of extra solder.
Am i the only one thats thinking there is something amiss with this question? i can't imagine any LEGAL reason someone would want to swap chips out with an old phone.

There are much easier ways to clone an ESN than swapping chips.

Fake HD2?

Hi
One month after I broke my europian HD2 I got nother from a private seller. It has the same 4.3" great screen, but instead of microUSB, it has miniUSB, it hasn't 3.5 plug and seams to be slower and glitchy.
Is it possible to be a fake with 4.3 screen?
Also the info shows:
CPU Qualcom 8520B
RAM 256
FLASH 256
STORAGE 149.97(not the storage card)
Data bus 32 bit
The most surprising is that whenever I start it there aren't any digits below the HTC logo, showing the version.
Yes it is a clone. They have some pretty close HD2 clones you know, just check out the below for example:

Yeah it looks like you got a clone there.
I also thought that, but there isn't dual SIM, and the device looks pretty old.

Actually a'll keep it. It's pretty good. The reason that i found it, is that i had one before. The difference is mostly in the memory.

If it does not have a 3.5 headphone jack and if it has the mini USB connector lick the one in ZEMONTI's pictures. Notice how the USB port sticks out like a sore thumb on his Phone. The real HD2 does .other have this.

The fakes do look slick and agree they just get bigger and better. What concerns me tho is the lack of 3G or hsdp network. Both the above links appear to quote 'GSM/Edge', im thinking if running android and are outwith a wifi hotspot then speed would be deminished

LG G2 Motherboard Memory Module Location?

Ok so I dropped my LG G2 and the Otterbox Defender didn't do **** all to prevent the phone from promptly turning off, stop responding to charging and literally wouldn't turn on except for every now and again the camera flash would turn on for no reason.
So I replaced the motherboard, good as new, BUT all my stuff is gone, so obviously it was all stored on the MB, I was wondering if I could melt off the old memory module and put it onto my new MB? Just don't know which is which. We're talking irreplaceable years of my son's life here, will stop at nothing

The big black one? Could someone that knows what they're doing desolder that and put it onto a working MB? Would that work? What do you think would be the best course of action to recover the data from it? On the back of the MB there's a metal casing with something thin inside it, and it looks VERY much like a micro SD card, do you think the data is there instead?

(Ignore the red circle, just happens to be the pic I found of the other side of the board.)
It looks like the memory is on the other side. Hynix is a known memory chip maker. Also, it looks like a BGA (from the low res pic it is hard to tell, but very likely). You cannot simply "desolder" a BGA chip. If it is that important to you, you need professional help. Even then, it will likely be pricey.
Toshiba chip is the NAND, memory chip on the other side of the board is the RAM, and it's placed on top of Snapdragon 800 SoC. BGA NAND package is possible to replace in theory, using an IR soldering station with precise temperature control. If overheated, the chip will get damaged. First, the boards must be thermo-shielded to protect other components, then both chips have to be removed from main boards, then boards and chips must be cleaned thoroughly (from old solder and flux, there is a technique to do that), then the good chip must be re-balled (special stencil for re-balling the NAND is needed) and soldered in place using the same IR station. I used to do this on computer motherboards in the past, but phone main board is much smaller. Not sure if the standard BGA replacement method will work on it. No repair center will give you any warranty on this work. There is a good chance to end up with 2 dead boards. You need to start making backup copies of everything that is important to you.
Hi guys,
Apparently I purchased a counterfeit LG V20 and I can't get it fixed by LG. The charging port is no good. So you either have to find someone who can micro solder it or buy a new motherboard.
LG sent me a pic of what is no good. I have downloaded CPU-Z and have identified the cpu, gpu, storage and camera. However I don't know what they are pointing to in the photo. It is between the rear camera and the front camera. It has a little notch in it like the one in the above photo. Does anybody know what that is. I am posting here because it appears this thread is familiar with this board. Thank you so much.
