Proxy settings vanish every time (T-Mobile, HTC touch) - Networking

I am using the wifi to try and connect to the internet.
At home (or through a none proxied connection) I have no problems.
At work, I can connect to the wireless network no problem, see internal severs etc... but when I set a proxy, the settings show, but the moment I completely leave the connections screens the proxy vanishes, I can't connect to the internet and when I go to the connections screen again the proxy settings have vanished... Am I missing something obvious? Is T-mobile running an app that clears the proxy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers in advance.

My touch has the same problem.
I can not find any solution till now.

same problem with spanish Touch (Movistar)...

yes yes, maybe your phone is KA-MUNTED! or there could be a program that your carrier has put in your Extended ROM that installs itself at hard-reset/first use as carriers tend to do. SO you could maybe unlock the extended ROM and copy all the files in there onto your PC or SD card and then wipe the EXTROM and hard-reset and install them one-at-a-time to see what(if any) one is causing your problem.
Then you put the CABS and stuff (except that one) back in the EXTROM and delete the entry of the CAB you wish to exclude from the Config.txt in the EXTROM.
And then hard-reset.

Hi tatotato
Sorry, I can not understand what you mean?
Your Touch`s Proxy setting is OK, without any problem?

More than 2 connections and Connection Manager

I'm using an XDA2 with the latest public ROM version from O2.
I have three GPRS connections that I use - the Internet, a work VPN, and WAP.
For day to day work I tend to use just the Internet and work VPN. Sometimes, however, I also use WAP.
Is there an easy way of connecting to WAP WITHOUT having to go into the connection manager and change my Internet settings from the Internet connection to the WAP connection?
Or, is there a better Connection Manager out there that can handle more than 2 connections?
Or, finally, is there a way to detect that a WAP connection is needed, and connect as required?
An alternative would be a program that allows you to, with the click of a button, select the two connections that you want to use (i.e. profile 1 is VPN and WAP and profile 2 is VPN and Internet).
Thanks!
I have exactly the same problem.
Too many operations to change the connection!!!
Someone any ideas?
Same here .. Having the same issue ..
It is inefficient to change the connection through Conn Manager ..
Perhaps can we do it through registry change? i.e. create several registry files, and just click the one we need when we want to connect to certain profile ..
Tried to look through the registry setting for Conn Manager, but it is confusing, they are using so many {436EF144- ....}, {18AD9FBD- ..} thingy
Maybe some expert can help here?
Thanks
Back From The Grave!!!
I was wondering the same thing!
I hate to say it, but the iPhone does wifi much simpler than Windows Mobile -- just flick a software switch and you're on, no changing settings, and no changing back when you go offline.
It's over 10 taps in Windows Mobile to do the same thing! I know there just HAS to be a simpler way to do this!
you can make you life a easier if you create a shortcut of the remnet.exe (inside the windows directory) to the start menu folder
rename "shortcut to remnet" to "connections"
Hello,
i've been searching around the web for a definitive explanation of the communication settings (Wep, Wap, GPRS, Internet, ISP, Wlan, etc.) in WM2006.
I can usually fiddle my way through setting something up, that seems to work...but i never know exactly why or what i did!
Now that i've got the HTC tytnII with built in Wlan this has become even more complicated.
For example, sometimes when i have an active Wlan connection and am surfing the internet, the phone connection pops up and asks me to connect via GPRS (Wap or Wep).
This is something that i've been confused about for some time anyway: how doese the unit know which way it should connect to the internet when i start an application?
IN any case, i've now been searching for a definitive explanation of the various settings contained in WM6.
Is there somewhere a good explanation of how it all works, so that i can understand the various settings?
Thanks in advance for any help....

Same here, I'd also like to know the difference.
For example, right now I seem to be able to configure a specific network connection to use for my Gmail synchronization. However, this ranges from 'The Internet' to 'My Internet', and just don't forget 'Work'.
Having a more profound understanding of these 'networks' and how to properly configure them is vital in this day where devices can also connect to the net using USB/ActiveSync and Wifi.

Complete newb to my Qtek... (Cingular US Settings)

Hi there, I'm about to update my Qtek 9100 to the latest WWE ROM posted last week. Is there anything very important I should know before I do this? I already backed up all my information and files, and I'm currently running on the Cingular US network. I tried searching for the official Cingular 8125 ROM but wasn't able to find it. I really, REALLY want to have the exact same settings as the 8125 does for connecting to the internet so I get full speed EDGE and the best phone signal it can offer. Could anybody please tell me how to set up my Qtek so it's exactly the same, including the E icon when I'm in an EDGE-covered area? I did a search for everything, but all I managed to find were a bunch of posts where everybody knew what everybody else was talking about. I managed to find the cab file named "Signed_Edge_Icon.sa" but I honestly have no idea what to do with it. As I said, I'm completely new to this, and I just want my Qtek 9100 to perform the best it possible can on Cingular's network. Thank you so much!
Cingular Settings
Hi,
Cingular has a blow by blow description of the settings.
https://onlinecare.cingular.com/dev...ingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB56475.html
are the internet settings
.... and .....
https://onlinecare.cingular.com/dev...ingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB56044.html
are the MMS settings
And for the cab file, just use activesync (press the explore icon) to drag the cab file to you phone and then tap it to run it.
Cool, I got that cab installed, but I'm having trouble with those Cingular settings... I don't have a "Set up Proxy Server" option under the first My ISP list. I do have it under My Work Network, but to my understanding that is a completely different connection option. Is it okay to have the wap.cingular connection under My ISP and the proxy server information under My Work Network, or should I just put everything under My Work Network and leave My ISP alone?
Through my experience the proxy settings for Cingular do two things (one good one bad) and your decision to use them should be based on which is more necessary to you.
1. The proxy settings allow you to use the MEdia Net homepage at device.home
2. The proxy settings screw with your WIFI connection and cause timeout errors and such when attempting to browse at home.
I personally find that the MEdia Net homepage is nice, but I can live without it or even replace it with other things like google.com/ig.
If you want to enable the proxy settings on the My ISP panel go to the advanced tab and create a new profile where My ISP is. For some reason the new one will allow you to put in proxy settings, but the default My ISP won't.

Virgin UK Network Settings CAB file

I know that there have been requests for this so here we are.
The attached ZIP file contains the CAB to automatically configure GPRS and MMS connections for the Virgin UK network. It has been successfully tested on an XDA II and SPV M1000, both of which are running 2003 SE. I don't have a pre-2003 or Mobile 5 device to try it on so I don't know if it works on them.
The 2 connections which are set up are called:
Virgin GPRS - this has been configured to also allow MSN Messenger to be used.
Virgin MMS
Before using it, I would advise the removal of any existing GPRS and MMS connection settings (though the choice is obviously yours). I would also advise to check that your happy with all of the MMS options/settings following the install (e.g. Save Sent messages is switched off with this CAB).
At last - God knows what i was doing wrong but with this cab and some manual setup of the Connection side of thing i have managed to send an MMS.
This CAB setup the MMS side perfectly (nothing on GPRS) - as i was typing from what i can gather ok for IP i was using the full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and server name i had put goto.virginmobile.uk whereas this cab just say picture message (not sure if this would cause and issue), but i am doing the connection via: My Work Network as thats where i setup the GPRS, rather than internet.
My Mobile is a Voda Compact III 1605, running HTC Rom 1.35 with windows mobile 5 - and have sent my 1st MMS after trying over a few days!
thanks
How do I install this cab file?
Copy the CAB file to your device and execute it...
sbgorner, you rule!!!
iv been trying to get my mms to work for 5 days now and was readt to smash my phone to pieces. your cab worked perfectly.
Thanks V Much

I tryed it, No luck.
It installs on my O2 XDA mini s, but still no connection
Maybe you know some other way to do it.
Many Thanks
Remove old network connections before installing the CAB
The CAB file does really rely on the fact that there are no existing network specific connection details installed on the XDA. The best way to ensure that old network connections are not affecting the Virgin settings is to delete them, i.e. ensure that only the standard "My ISP" and "My Work Network" entries are still present.
1) Go to Start->Settings and on the "Connections" tab, tap on the Connections icon.
2) Tap on the "Advanced" tab.
3) Tap on the "Select Networks" button.
4) Use the drop-down arrow to select an entry (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network").
5) Tap on the "Edit..." button.
6) Tap on the "General" tab.
7) Tap on the "Delete Settings" icon.
8) Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the entries (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network") have been removed.
Having removed all of the network specific connection entries, try reinstalling the Virgin UK cab file again and everything should work.
You diamond. Just sent Virgin a bollocking. They suggested I contact O2 about setting this up. Your cab file much appreciated by a middle aged member.
Thanks
Will try!
Much appreciated!
SW
Just tried this after a week of trying various settings, now got access to gprs, thanks.
I have followed your instructions but after running the CAB file the VArio II still doesn't connect. If I click on the edit settings link it doesn't think there are any settings, as I only have the option to install a new ISP. However if I try to manually install a new ISP using the name Virgin GPRS it won't let me as it says a connection already exists with that name, but nowhere can I find any trace of that connection. What is going on please?

I'm in exactly the same position with my O2 XDA mini S.
I could possibly try using a different ISP name but I'd rather find out why this is happening and delete the connections made by the CAB file. As I can't find the connections though I can't delete them.
Ok, Time for an update.
Using Virgin GPRS2 didn't work and I've found out how to remove the setting created by the CAB file. I went to add and remove programs and removed the changes that way.
I have followed the instructions from this thread to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238042&highlight=virgin+gprs
I'll keep plodding along but if someone can offer any suggestions i'd lve to hear them.
Ps. Don't be rude.
Hi Bouncypete
I also discovered that I could get rid of the bad settings using remove programs, but am also no further forward in finding the correct settings. I have sent a private email to sbgorner (he doesn't appear to subscribe to any forums) but have not had a reply. Anybody else out there got any ideas?
Virgin GPRS settings
Hi Bouncypete -success!!!
I have found an older posting from sbgorner which gives a blow by blow manual way of doing the settings and it works!!.
I will try and attach this as a pdf, but if the attachment doesn't come through then email me and I will send it to you direct
ran VirginUK.CAB - no settings added
I deleted all the old gprs etc connection settings and ran CAB file, but get no settings visable in network connections just "my isp" and my work network". When I try and enter settings manually I get to the "modem" new page and enter Virgin GPRS or MMS select Cellular GPRS/3G and next and it tell me I'm adding a duplicate setting although there are no settings visible. This happens after removing the CAB settings that make no difference in remove programs? Any Ideas apart from clearing the phone down?
Thanks for the pdf link - sorted me & my orbit out

I have been trying for ages to get my HTC Blueangel to link into the internet.
This CAB file did the job for me. Surprise, surprise (for me at least) IT WORKS.
Mobile internet here I come!

HERE IT IS. Cingular WAP CAB Setup

Many noobs keep asking how to setup Cingular WAP, My ISP, and MEdiaNet connections after their new ROM upgrade. I made a CAB file to make it easier. Just run the Cab and it does it for you.
I actually made it since I was getting tired of doing it manually after each HR, which most of us do on XDA. It was not rocket science, and I know there are members working on a nice GUI for ALL carriers WAP settings, this should help in the meantime.
EDIT: Uploaded wrong CAB. New one is good.
EDIT: Added CAB with Both WAP and MMS.
EDIT: Fixed w/MMS CAB to add the Cingular Settings as the default.
EDIT: Replaced with Fixed CAB for Exchange AS and the user/pass stick now. Also added OPEN DNS servers for quicker "locating"
EDIT: Added No ICON Change CAB as requested.

Do you already have the Cingular settigns there and ran this over it, maybe the Reg Keys cant be written if you already have a Cingular setup or if you are just online at the time. I tested it by deleting my connetions and, since My ISP cant be deleted totally, I blanked all the info from it. Then ran the CAB and SR then I had my settings correct.
Also it is tested on Hermes only and the reg keys came from WM6. I can not test on WM5 right now.
I only set up the wap settings. I deleted that first then tried to run it.

I had just did a cleared storage so my phone was plain no settings ad I was unsuccessful also.n
I just re-uploaded a newer one, maybe I uploaded the wrong one or it was a bad transfer on my end. The new one is in the first post.
Check 1st post again for MMS.
That should do it the old one was 4kb
Cool. I am one of the quilty ones that did not know how to set it up so I definately appreciate it. I ended up figuring this out around 2am this morning.
But the downloads still seem a little slow. Im using 1.27 radio and XDA 0.20.1.
I noticed the MMS CAB didn't put the Cingular Setting as the "Default" in the new LVSW version so I fixed the second CAB.
Also I noticed that sometimes all the connection/modem settings are correct except the User name and Password sometimes do not stick. All the other info stays.
If it doesn't stick after the soft reset:
User Name: [email protected]
Pass: CINGULAR1
THESE ARE CASE SENSITIVE! Even adding this little bit is better than creating the entire connection every HR. I am looking at the CAB to see if I can make it better. Probably have to write an XML file to do, I hate those so...
Cannot install either

This is exactly what I need but I'm getting the same error. Tried running the Cab from main memory and from my storage card. Using LVSW on a TYTN - no settings currently exist so there's nothing to overwrite. Please help.
Edited: installing directly from this thread (rather then downloading and moving to my device seems to work)

I think these problems are from bad downloads. The ftp has caused this on other downloads for me latelty. A redownload fixed it on other cab I have tried. I had the problem on 8525software.com before too.

Trouble With Exchange ActiveSync
WpBear, I really appreciate you setting up these CABs. But I have to report a problem I encountered which caused me some major stress on Friday until I figured it out.
Basically after applying your settings CAB after flashing a new ROM, the first thing I want to do is set up Exchange ActiveSync with my work email so I can get over-the-air synch.
I had previously flashed Kyphur's WM6 ROM, entered my data settings manually, set up my Exchange synch manually, and all was working well for several days.
I ended up flashing Kyphur's ROM again and decided to take advantage of your Cingular Settings CAB to save a little time. Of course, foolishly I did not check out my Exchange synch assuming it would work. I went ahead and installed all my other apps and got the phone back into shape. Next morning (Friday) I noticed I did not have any work emails waiting on the phone - strange.
I then tested the Exchange synch and found it did not work. I was getting an ActiveSync error on the phone about needing a cellular connection to perform the synch (which took me several hours to find).
Bottom line is, no matter what I did with the MEdia Net or My ISP connections , I could not get rid of the ActiveSync error. The only thing I can do is reflash the ROM and enter data settings manually. I have already done this and confirmed it works - I can now synch over-the-air with Exchange again.
Anyway, I just wanted to put this message out there in case anyone else encounters this problem. Hopefully it will save them from the stress and panic I encountered for a while until I figured it out.
wap settings and activesync
I have the same problem. if I install the cingular cabs my active sync gives errors. have to use HTweakC with LVSW to keep data connection always on after manually setting carrier wap settings. but th problem is now my Cingular MediaNET MMS doesn't connect.
Same here, I have tried manual setup and the attached CAB files, both fail to give connection to Cingular MEdiaNet MMS when using LVSW.

I do hope you meant to say you were doing a hard reset (versus literally reflashing the ROM) each time you had to start fresh...?
If you are not using exchange server AS then check if you are username and password are entered. Thia was a mentioned problem I listed a few posts back. As far as AS exchange I do not use this since the agency I work for does not allow personal devices sync with theirs. I use POP3 and tested it this way.

WiFi uses GPRS Proxy - Fix without removing Proxy?

I've got GPRS and WiFi working perfectly.
However, everytime I switch between WiFi and GPRS, I got to reentern/remove the proxy server.
My GPRS REQUIRES the use of the proxy, so there's no going around that, and there are no unlimited data plans on the non-proxy access point [face_cry]
I've looked through both HowardForums (where I am from, I've been a Symbian user until now) and here for already existing info.
Aside from finding tons of people who couldnt get the wifi to work because of the proxy, none of those threads gave a solution that included KEEPING the proxy server for GPRS.
If there is a thread with the information to get WiFi to NOT use the GPRS proxy, just link me to the thread and Ill figure out the rest on my own
Thnx! Hope I'll get my post count increased fast so I'm not considered as a post-and-leave user.
of course u can keep the the proxy server for GPRS and surf the internet via wifi ~~
but pity that my device's interface is in chs & my broken english
(if i misunderstand ur thread, dont brick me )
u can fix it ,follow below
start menu--setting---connection--connetion,or u can see my device' captures pic1
(i dont really sure if ur device is that path,i just translated it from chinese to english)
select the icon in green (pic1)
a new window like pic2,just do it
and the key step in pic3:
the two places in red circle
dont select ur wap setting ,select my isp or my network is ok
when u want to connect internet via gprs,u rechange to ur gprs setting
enjoys
oh I understand what you mean. Yes that way I dont have to retype my proxy addresses.
Sadly, it's still not automated from what I see
I'll have to make a shortcut for that section.
Thanks woohyuksheng!
Cingular proxy cabs
Cingular has a set of cab files that enable/disable the proxy settings. if you search this forun you will find then. they are also in the latest cingular rom, black 3.0, and custel 1.3.
if you are not on cingular you could try and edit the cab files with your carrier info.
give it a try.

All I needed was to add DNS addresses for my Wifi adapter and to EnableAutoDetect=1
