Ok, I have learned that 1 gig is very unlike my 30 gig mp3 player but realistically I am growing towards the idea that the whole sync thing can be used to bring on and take off music when I get tired of it. Meaning, before when I could shove everythnig and its mother onto one device I really didn't care what was on there. but now, space is limited... I guess it is kinda like going from country side estate to a New York Sublet.
Alas we have to make due. So what do you guys use and what do you have the most functionality with.
For me this is how it has been. I have WMP 11 on my computer and Itunes as far as players go I have the WMP PPC and TCMPHP (i know I know) thingy on my pc... I played one video with the tcmpp thingy and it was shaking and fuzzy all over the place. I think it said it disabled my graphics card or something... WEIRD... but I removed it imediatley... anyone else have that problem? I digress...
the functionality of the WMP, forget about codecs for a second, I am only worried about mp3's right now, seems a bit archaic. you can't make a playlist but you can sync one. Which is fine. But, on my intitial setup with WMP on my computer I didn't include the music that the device had and the whole thing won't sync that... I was trying to delete the profile on the PC and NO LUCK... can't figure it out. anyways. As well, I noticed that some music you download doesn't have the proper tags or information. Fixing this in WMP is a true PAIN in the ARSE.
Fixing it in ITUNES is so much better and the tags you create actually stick with the mp3 file... For those of you who have been having trouble finding songs that you have in your device but they won't show up in the all music directory of WMP... THIS is why. Again, Itunes wins out for this one.
for me, I want to go all out for ITunes but I dont' think it will make a playlist that the WMP will recognize... will tcmp play the itunes media player and can you sync to the player or proper folder
OOOOO... that reminds me when I do sync I want it to go to specific folder I have on my device in my storage card. It goes to the freaking storage card but puts it right on the root and keeps creating a "my music" folder to put the music in... THis burns me up because it is not what I want. Again, anyone know how to fix this.
I dunno, I have been playing with this for weeks and would sure like to hear what you all are doing and what works the best.
Thanks in advance.
I use iTunes to TAG my mp3s and convert them into one standard bitrate [I use 128kbps on all my mp3s]
--
For syncing I use WMP11 on my XP notebook. All these are done on WMP11...
--
To remove a partnership: Right-click on the Storage Card and Remove Sync Partnership
--
To setup a Auto-sync: Re-connect your device/storage card. Right click and choose Set up Sync, check Sync this device automatically to sync music each time you connect your device/card. Choose the playlists you want sync'd and your off. It's a bit slow using USB but really fast when using a card reader. You may be prompted the first time you connect your card to rename it and some other options.
--
If you didn't rename your card to begin with you still can: Right click on it and choose Advanced there are some more options there to for quality/conversion settings [I don't mess with those since I've already converted and tagged my files before putting them inside my Music library]
--
Re: Music folder being organized by Artist-Album IIRC it could be removed pre-WMP11 but on WMP11 the tickbox for this is check and grayed out.
---
WMP11 may be a pain in the ass to use and it really is inferior to iTunes in a lot of ways but I've learned to bear with it.
--
What I like about WMP10PPC is that it has built in support for A2DP/AVRCP [never used TCPMP for music/videos]. I try not to install additional apps that I think the PPC is capable of doing out of the box. Maybe you can try this software [used google to find it] it's supposed to sync iTunes playlists to a WM device, it's called TunesSync for Windows Mobile. Haven't tried it though.
couple questions... when you snyc what folder on your sd card does it go to.. mine automatically trie to go on the root of my storage card but I don't want it to do that.
As well, I can't remove the parternship so that it starts over again... I dunno why but I can't do it... meaning if you remove the partnership will it prompt you to start over again and reconfigure the settings to your liking???
As well, yes, the tagging in WM11 is rediculous... but ITunes is way superior in that category... hmmmm shame but I dunno... I might give that Itunes sync to card a try.
My mp3s sync to...
\Storage Card\Music\Artist\Album [for single artist albums]
\Storage Card\Music\Various Artists\Album [for compilations]
--
Hmm odd I can easily end and re-establish sync relationships using WMP11. Maybe you can try disconnecting the device, restart both PPC and WMP11 and try again?
--
be sure to post on how it goes with the synctunes thingy.
I dunno... wierd... I need to go home and try to work this out.
I rely totally on the CorePlayer Mobile (aka TCPMPWhatever) to play MP3's and videos straight from my storage card. Why? 1) The sound quality is better. CorePlayer includes an equalizer, so you can mess with the settings. You can also increase the pre-amp if you have really quiet audio recordings you want to listen to. 2) You don't have to bother with the file converting like you do with WMP. I use a utility like CardExport or WM5torage to put it directly on the card, completely bypassing the converting mess. It saves a lot of time, especially with videos.
I haven't totally abandoned WMP, though. I use Orb.com to stream music/videos to the WMP on my PPC, and effectively have a 1TB MP3 player.

Oh, and if you're having problems with the video shaking and what not, try changing the video output driver. Menu -> Tools -> Preferences -> Select Page -> Video. I had this problem with a few videos, and I resolved it by changing the ATI Imageon to either DirectDraw or Raw FrameBuffer. I don't know why some videos have problems with one driver or the other, but switching it sometimes helps.
BTW, if you want to re-enable the ATI OS Bitmap caching (which CorePlayer automatically disables), you can switch it back at Menu -> Tools -> Preferences -> Select Page -> ATI Imageon. I assume you need to soft reset after you make the change.
Edit: I just realized you might be using the actual TCPMP, which is the free version of CorePlayer. If that's the case, the settings might be in a different place in the program, but it's probably still there.

yes, for sure the free... but from what I gather by the response for music the WMP is better.
Oh, well I'm not sure about that. The music on the CorePlayer is definitely better than the WMP, though.
but can you synch with it? that is the question / problem.
Yes, but you don't need to.
You can sync it the usual way, and have all your MP3's in a folder like "Music". You can then have CorePlayer point towards that file.
OR.... you can just copy a whole bunch of MP3's into said folder, and not have to sync it at all. You can do this with 1) a usb card reader, 2) WM5torage, or 3) CardExport.
I prefer not to do the syncing. The latter method is infinitely quicker and straight forward. It's simply a matter of copying the MP3's into a folder on the storage card.
i dont bother syncing,
i just copy the mp3 folders to the sd card and launch the playlisy in mortplayer for mp3's.
simplest and best solution i have found.
WMP takes up too much ram when playing mp3's, typical microsoft, redundant code just taking up memory.

I've noticed that when having over a certain amount of albums (or files), going to Library from the TF3D Music Tab and selecting All Music does not scroll them but makes them dissappear. Anyone else can confirm this?

How many albums/files you mean by "certain amount of"?
I have approx. 250 songs, categorized by music tab into around 35 albums.
I didn't notice there's anything like this... I can scroll thru all songs properly.
Could you be more specific?

Likewise, my UK machine does not cause any problems in this area.
Like maddie above says ~ How many songs & albums do you have?
Is there a limit on the amount of albums/material displayed?
My car's computer can display 999 tracks but only 99 albums. Not related but it's just to give you the idea.
Berads
I also think it's a limit of the player.
I put on mine all my library (~8GB of music).

Yep..
Mine is also UK machine, I ordered it from Clove..
I have installed some softwares (CE-Star, Gyrator 2 etc..) and some tweaks have been made.
Don't see any problem with the tab...
Also, I see some people mentioned that when they put the HD into standby mode, the music will stop, which also haven't happened to my HD..

379 files in 29 albums is ok.
Will add one by one to find the limit.
Hmm.. But I do find another bug, in the TF3D Music Tab, if you flick once up (previous track) and then twice down (next track) without stopping between each changing, it will just stuck at 0:00 and not play.. not until you press pause and play again.
Confirmed.
On the French version the bug is here also: unable to scroll on "list of all songs". Just one page appears.
Album list and Artist list do work.

Same with me problem only occurs with songs in library - ok with albums and artists. I wonder if it cannot read all the songs because they are all organised in so many separate folders - but that would not explain why it shows the first eight songs on the first page.
Ive just put about 50 songs in 20 folders on my SD card and although I can see all the tracks in the albums and all songs tabs from the library button, the music player plays nothing. It appears to be frozen.
Ive tried soft resetting a couple of times but nothing.
Will removing the battery have any effect?

Removing the battery is just the same as carrying out a soft-reset.
Do the music files play when using Media Player?
Beards
I've also noticed that TF3D will scroll through albums and artists, but not all songs. It simply displays the first eight, and when I try to scroll down, the first eight appear again, each time I try. Probably due to the number of tracks on my card - 948. Hope they fix this.
I can scroll through approximately 180 songs no problem. I have organized them in a MUSIC>Album>Song.mp3. Each folder has the picture file named "folder". Oddly, I get cover art randomly displayed. I've spent hours organizing and trying to determine the problem.

They appear to play fine in media player. I do have the SD tune prog also.
Apart from a few folders on my card, one of which has my CAB files for fonts etc there is nothing else on it.
I dont really want to do a hard reset if possible. Im hoping HTC or someone can fix this. Its pretty poor for what is essentially supposed to be a multimedia device. Thats the reason I wanted it.
I thought the music would play fine using Media Player.... Which proves it's not your SD card (which I doubted was not this anyway).
I would assume the problem lays with TF3D
You haven't installed/altered anything to do with TF3D?

I had installed various things such as fonts, clock, no curtains but I have just done a hard reset (Its gona take a while to get everything back how I want it)and it made no difference. Every time I went to the music tab it would show for a few seconds and then I got a Microsoft error message, the problem being with audiomanager_eng.exe.
I managed to get it to scroll from the first song to the next one before the message. Every other time after that, nothing then the error.

I tried this but sadly no improvement at all.
But thanks for the help.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?
I have the same issue, so I donĀ“t use music tab any more, I use Slide2play, works great and I can switch from music player, desktop and navigator with taskfacade.
I agree this is a very annoying problem. The problem is that each time you do a soft reset the music player is re-indexing the musiclibra/ry . That's no good Maybe it worked with the two albums the developers tested the app, but with 100+ albums it is simply a "bug".
Every now and then I spend some time in trying to fix this. Still no results. Played with some registry settings, did some reformating, nothing nada rien.
I think the only way to fix this problem is to teach the music player to stop searching for new music (unless it is trigger by the user) and use the same indexfile again and again...
BTW the indexfile is located in \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng and it is called AudioManager_Eng.vol
This file, on my device 2.4 Mb, is rebuild again and again and again - each time you do a softreset (or even when you restart Sense)
(Maybe someone can do something with this info)
alternatively you could try the following key:
hklm/software/htc/audiomanager_eng/config/resume_play_delay_time change it from 2000 (2 seconds) to 0
in the same key you can also try music_Player_index 1
athough i still dont know what that one does...
do you have anything else in the folders btw? album art is missing, if you connect via wifi or activsync and press the top left icon it should update the album art,. It may be something as stupid as trying to find that?

Yeah I know, Pocket Player is so much better. But i'm kinda used to the cover flow of the sense player. It so comfortable in the car. Just rotate the car-mount and then select another album/song while keeping the eyes on the road. Way much better then the list view of pocket player. But apart from that....

Ok, I have changed those 2 strings you suggested and then I did a soft reset in order to apply the changes.
But still no improvement at all.
Also I have only music in my music folder and nothing else except for the album art offcourse.
Btw, I know you can update the album art and I have done that several times already but for some songs it doesn't find any album art at all.
Maybe this would help...
Well, I had some succes. I have approx. 800 mp3 and they load in about 3-4 seconds.
But you have to open Mediaplayer and index them first.
Before I indexed it took about 5 minutes to load.
The indexing made a difference.
could be a dodgy tag. try clearing your card, then move over your music a few albums at a time.sees if any particular album makes a difference.I had a single track one time that crashed most music players I tried. non standard characters in one of the tags.
alternatively, got any files with excessively long names?
Well I tried to first index all my music with media player. It added about 920 songs. Then I closed mediaplayer and I went back to sense and went to the music tab bus sadly still nog improvement for me. But it was worth trying.
@samsamsuel: I have no dodgy tags, i converted them all with mp3tag. But yes I think I have some long tags in there, I could try to shorten them a bit. Hope this will work.

If you solved this problem please report it back here. I have 1700 files, so... you know
Ok I have converted all my tags to ID3v2.4 and I also shotened al the tags because I had a few of them wich were a bit long I thought.
Also I have deleted all the : , & @ / symbols in my tags.
But still there is no improvement at all. It still takes about 15-16 seconds to show the song title and artist like shown in the video. So all this work was for nothing.
Hi,
Two Issues I need help on:
1. I just transferred 2000 mp3 to my sd card/Music phone is supper slow, locks up.
2. When I get my song list up, Most of them shows ! on it. Some do and some dont, perhaps the list got corrupted as those were the mp3 I had before which I deleted and transferred a new set of 2000 mp3's to /sdcard/Music
What can I do? I first had 200 mp3's and it was Ok. Is there a limit??
Thanks

Any body??
not sure how many mp3 I have, but I do have close to 14G of mp3s, so it should be more, if not close to 2000 mp3 you have.
I don't have any slowness, did you experience it every time you reset, or it happens even after 1-2 hours after your last reset?
and btw, you get better response in the HD2 theme and app forum.
1. Did you format the sd card (fat 32) prior to importing the files?
2. Are you on Stock 1.66 ROM?
3. TBH I have yet to hear of anyone with so much number of MP3 files that HTC Music Player can handle.
4. use WM media player
or some other third party
As suggested above, format the microSD card. A corrupt microSD card can really slow down a smartphone.
Also, see if WMP handles the files well. Many media players for WM choke on large libraries. For all of it's ugliness, WMP seems to handle large libraries fairly well.

every time you soft reset the phone, the audio manager will rebuild the library. So that spining icon describe that situation.
it shouldnt' take ages to rebuild the library though. Usually, 10-20 secs is all it need, (just a ball park estimate, but you get the idea of the duration)
there's some lag though, on stock rom or rom that doesn't use extendir, when you swipe over to the music tab. i.e. it'll take a few second before the music tab shows up, and before that, it'll look as if the music tab / music player is hung.
I'm not sure how many chef has use extendir, I know bobsbbq, myself and I think scotsman have that build that in the rom.
I have alot of MP3's (6-7GB) on my SD card. A reason for the sluggish HD2 could be because when you first select the music tab after a soft reset, the music library rebuild itself (search for all the track again).
After 20 mins my library is rebuilt and the phone is back to its blazing self again.
I let it search once, then dont reset my phone until necessary!
Hope this helps
EDIT: replying whilst the post above, was posted...sorry.

That is what I thought, maybe it has something to do with the album art.
On a lot of albums the art is the same (it has copied one cover to lots of albums).
I will format again and see if the is a difference.
Thanks

Yes, who has time for that?? Can you shut off the album art search?? I think this is crazy that this fantastic HD2 cant stink-in handle mp3's.
There must be somethin that can be done??
20 min is too long, my workout would be finished first before I have a chance to listen.
Thanks

I have solved the problem with my library.
I have spent today re-arranging my music files into folders ARTIST>ALBUM>SONGS.
Before I had all the songs/files labeled e.g. "Artist - Song Name" in one "music" folder.
Now it only takes about 10 secs to rebuild the library. Much faster
OP, do you by chance have a US HD2 with the stock TMOUS class 2 SD card? I think the issue may be the slow card. For instance, the games that ship with the phone on the SD card have to be moved to the phone to play smoothly due to the "slowness" of the card.
I believe the suggestion from muzens has worked for some.

I think it it, I see 2 on the card.
As far as my issue, I guess there is no way an HD2 can handle 2000 MP3's, So I will delete as much as I can until it works ok.
Unless anyone else has another solution.
Thanks

Update: I just updated NRGZ28 Energy.Leo.21898.Sense2.5_Cookie_HomeTab.Apr.11.7z from Energy.Leo.21898.Sense2.5_Cookie_HomeTab.Apr.09
and to me looks like the sluggish has gone, while the music is being built, now I can slide to another tab. I also noticed the the songs start appearing/built a hole hell of lot faster.
I have not seen the release notes yet, but whatever is there is more satisfied for me now.
Thanks

Could you tell us if you have your music in folder like mentioned above?

I'd really like to know if I'm going to run into the same problems if I decide to ditch my iPod.
Hello all,
The best solution to the Sense music player being slow when there are 100's of tracks is to split the files over several folders on the root (cut & paste).
Keep this to around 50-60 tracks in any one folder. For exanple is the Music folder on my MicroSD card I have created 0-A, B-C, D-F, etc. and place all the tracks in order of the fist letter. This can be easily done by plugging in your USB cable to the device and selecting Disk Drive.
Once you have done this, reset your device and go to the music tab, it will then perform one scan and you will not get any delay thereafter.

I have a stock TMOUS HD2. I have just over 950 songs on my mSD card and whenever I move to the music tab on sense it takes a good 12-15 seconds to load (during which the phone is frozen). Now this is only when I have the entire library in the current playlist. Is this normal, and is there any way to shorten this slight lag? Also, I like to leave the entire library on shuffle, but sometimes, when leaving the music tab and coming back in (after another wait) the music is no longer shuffled, even though the little check box is still there. I just have to tap it twice to make it shuffled again. Not deal breakers, just inconveniences, I still love my HD2.

I have noticed this as well. It seems to need to reload the media after a certin amount of time. No real fix that I have seen yet.

Thats what I was thinking too... Maybe there is a way to turn of the automatic indexing or whatever it is it's doing and do it manually. Registry Key change?

I have looked in the reg and have not found anything. I think it is hard coded in the manila files as I noticed the change from sense 2.1 to 2.5. If I find anything Ill let you know
there sems to be some kind of problem with music tab in this phone, at the begining it did not find any music, I had to search for a solution deleting something in Manila and reseting manila, after that it read my music files.
and yes, every time I softreset or turn off and on the phone, when I go to music tab it doesnt find enything and after half a minute it starts loading my files (and I have only loaded 500 MB yet)
When I had my Diamond 2 it was fast, music tab and everything was there with 0 delay. I got no idea what must be worng with the code in our 1 Ghz HD2 music tab.

I noticed the music thing today also. But when you update your library via windows media player, it seems to find all the music. At least, did for me. That fixed that issue, maybe music tab and windows media player are connected some way?
The lag in initial loading is caused by a lack of cache on the SD card. I found a cab that brought my load time from 30-50 seconds down to 11 seconds (I have 10.4GB of music). It should speed up everything on the SD card since all it does is enable the cache on the card.
let me know how it works for you. I've asked NRG if he would work the reg-hack into his ROM, but this should do as a work around.
Don't thank me, thank the author of the hack.
Thanks for this, if I still had my HD2 I would test it XD

This used to be a big issue for me. I have around 800 songs and well about 8GB and it would take a really long time before it would load up my songs. What I did was copy the Audio_manager.exe file from the windows folder and and pasted it in the Startup folder also in the windows folder. That helped out immensely.

I tried that and it didn't have any effect on my load time. The cab did because it enabled the data to be cached, but starting the HTC audio manager in theory will only start the audio manager on startup which gives the appearance of a faster load because the data is being loaded while the phone starts and by the time you get to music it should be done.
My theory is that every time you slide away from the audio manager it closes the app and when you reopen it (thus have to reload the playlist) you're gonna get long load times once again. I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I know the behavior on my device had nothing to do with starting the audiomanager on startup
i found out that most of the problems wen it comes to playin mp3s with music tab its not the device its the music, anywhere from a bad files a to a virus can cause ur music to freeze and start all over again but there is a solution to the problem that i found and it works for me... simply transfer all of ur songs back to ur computer and format ur micro sd card to wipe clean as ur doing so download mediamonkey its free and recode all songs to mp3 u can also add or remove album art once complete send ur music back to sd card and that should resolve the issuse, if not then the problem is the media player itself and u will need to update it by hard reset if ur on stock rom or change rom if its a cooked rom... goodluck and enjoy
Wingtytn, et al-
Thank you guys very much for your helpfulness. I am however getting a little tired of hearing the music, tags and the lunar cycle being blamed. While, yes, it's true that music can cause problems, that isn't the case here.
#1- If I open the music directly in Windows Media Player (on the phone) it not only loads instantly, but plays instantly and skips through songs without any hesitation. It also has no trouble keeping the shuffle setting on.
#2- This problem has occurred over the fresh installation of many ROMs. Every time I install a new ROM I delete any non-user created data on the SD Card, Hard Reset the Phone, Task29, then flash the ROM. The FIRST thing I do is check to see if these bugs still occur in the Sense Media Player, and inevitably they do.
#3- The first thing I did when I got this phone was to format the MicroSD card. It's the one that came with the phone, so I know it's not a compatibility issue.
#4- My music library is maintained and synced with my phone via Media Monkey Gold. It has been for some time and Media Monkey does a PHENOMENAL job at updating tracks' tags and checking file names.
If you still think its the music, see #1, and note that it works just fine on my laptop and the 16GB USB memory stick that I sync with to plug into the headunit in my car.
Then if you still think it's the music go ahead and post again that you think it's the music since it hasn't already been suggested and debunked (in my case) ad nauseum.
This rant has been brought to you by the letter 'V' and the number '5'

thanks for the .cab made me love the hd2 even more....
wow
i installed the cab and the average recognition time went from 40 seconds to 4! I would have never believed it. thanks for posting the cab.
side note: when I turn the phone to landscape I can never scroll through all the cd art. It stops about 20 cd's through and goes back to the begining. This has been the norm since day one. Is it just me? thanks.
I got so sick and tired of the music player taking forever to load. And no its not my music files. Do yourself a favor and don't use the default music player. I switched to Pocket Player and have not looked back. Loads all my music (about 8gigs) in about 3 -5 seconds. It also has FLAC support, built in EQ and lots of other nice little things.

Well, I've never tried that scenario. Does it have that behavior in portrait mode too? I just tried to recreate the problem but wasn't able to (it seemed to behave itself for me.

Seriously, this thread is for people who are trying to get the Sense Media Player working correctly, NOT taking suggestions about which other media player to use. Yes there are other media players out there and they're all great I'm sure, BUT I DON'T WANT TO USE THEM SO STOP SUGGESTING THEM AND POST FIXES OR WORK AROUNDS. thank you.
what about using a class 6 micro SD card, the one that came with our phones is a class 2, which is suppose to have slow read/write times. i got a 16gb class 6 card from amazon for like $50, and it is way faster then the stock one...
Aside from putting the Audiomanager shortcut in the startup folder, the cure for my music tab lag was simply 'not having every song in a single playlist'. I have 10GB of music on my SD card, and that's a lot of music to have on a single playlist, given Audiomanager annoyingly attempts to cache the entire Now Playing list including art every time you open it. Try selecting one artist/album at a time - works for me without fail.
I do really, really wish Audiomanager had the alphabet search function the contact manager has. And the ability to add albums/songs to Now Playing on the fly without creating a new playlist. Ah well, can't win 'em all - I won't sacrifice the Sense integration.

This could potentially work. However here is a few things to look out for:
- Make sure it's legit class 6. At $50 if you got it from China then it's iffy about whether it's legit.
- The bottleneck might be the hardware card reader on the phone. If the card is capable of class 6 speeds but the reader will only read at, say, class 4 speeds then you won't see the speeds you are looking for.
Can you think about doing some more accurate testing with this? Here is what I suggest. Get a stopwatch, and media monkey. Sync all of your music on the old card with media monkey. Do a hard reset on the phone (so that no cabs are installed and it has the really slow start times). Collect 5-10 sample times with the stopwatch.
When you get your new card do the same thing. Sync all of your songs using media monkey, then hard reset and collect 5-10 startup times with the stopwatch and report your data.
The problem with simply "finger counting" is that if the numbers are negligible then you could get a placebo effect so that it "seems" faster but with no hard numbers you can't really tell.
