Storage memory low - Wing, P4350 General

Hallo,
I upgraded my herald (P4350) to WM6. I noticed that my storage memory is at a constant 95 - 99 %. I constantly get memory low messages.
Anybody an idea how to solve this?
As far as i can tell i do not have any large programs (installed) on the phone itself.
appr. 2 programms installed on the phone (battery status and windows profiles). The rest on the storage card.
Please advice.
Regards,

FILESYS.EXE consumes 94% of my CPU time!!!!! :(

hi all, I am new to xda-developers, I have recently bought a Qtek 1010 device & upgraded its ROM into PPC2003 4.00.05 ENG Kitchen from yorch.net
I've notices that sometimes my device goes too slow for a few seconds then it returns to normal.
I've installed a task manager software (SuperTasks) that will monitor the CPU usage of the running processes. I have found that FILESYS.EXE is tha cause of slowness!! it takes up to 94% of my CPU time for 10 or 15 seconds!
This is very annoying, I've formatted my PPC & installed my regular programs, and still suffering from this problem!
Is is a ROM problem?? Please help, please!
Thank you all
FILESYS.EXE consumes 94% of my CPU time
I have the same on my O2 XDA II running WM2003. filesys.exe starts its action for example after I take the PDA out of the cradle. It takes 10-15 seconds full CPU and then it comes back to 0.
Not sure what is happening. Filesys.exe is for the file system (disk access). For example, if you kill it with Supertasks, you may find your device stalls completely. You cannot even do a warm or cold reset. The only thing to get back into business was to take out the battery of my XDA II!
There are also posts on Microsoft.com about memory leaks in filesys.exe. There seems to be an issue with accessing files that go accross the 32MB limit.
All in all typical Microsoft: Bugs all over the place and no patches available...
Micro$oft = BAD! 8)
yeah you are right! it seems to be memory leaks!
but I have done something which has reduced the longly effect of filesys.exe!
I usually leave my XDA turned on all the night, but on charger. I've noticed that this could give a good time for windows to DEFRAGMENT the main memory, cus i think that when filesys.exe takes up to 94% of CPU time, then its doing some defragmentation to the main memory, even if you have more than 20 MB of free space!
So I just leave it running all the night because this issue PLUS another issue which still I suffer from!!! when i suspend my XDA while its being on the charger, the sound completly goes off!! even when i got incoming calls & SMS message, I can't hear them at all!!!!!
Hope Micro$oft will fix all these bugs in their outcoming version of windows 2003 second edition
Dude, You're blaming Microsoft for all these problems when you've screwed about with your machine's ROM! Speaking from experience as an XDA2 owner, I have no problems with my machine at all, and it's running the original ROM and original Bluetooth stack.
Most of the people who seem to have problems are the ones who've modified their ROM, either with an official upgrade from another service provider (and another country!!), or with some cooked-up ROM from Yorch.
Stop blaming Microsoft when the problem may be your own!
Original ROMs?
well, I have a cooked ROM from yourch, but I don't think its the problem. We all know that Microsoft products are full of bugs! but also I am beleiving that using original ROMs will solve the problem, but I really donno from where can I find original ROMs for W2003 second edition?
Re: Original ROMs?
Filesys DOES defragment the filesystem on a regular interval.
..Chuck..
Filesys.exe
I notice that filesys.exe is also doing overtime after switching the XDA II on and after taking it out of the cradle. No idea what happens, but I have the feeling it is caching data (what doesn't make sense on a diskless system).
To sublimatica: have you tried to see what happens to your "standard machine" after installing SuperTasks?
yes its the defragmentation process, it occurs usually when the device is idle or when the device is turned on!it takes at least 90% of CPU time, and if it was running while a call is coming then u will miss that call before you get notified about it!!!! :?
I was just wondering, I did a permenant backup of my contacts & calendar on the ROM using the tool that comes up with the windows. But I've notice that everytime i soft rest my device, an annoying status bar comes up & saying SYNCHRONIZING YOUR CONTACTS and SYNCHRONIZING YOUR CALENDAR,, it takes about half minute & I can't do anything until it finishes!!!
If anyone knows how to get rid of this please tell me,, Am thinking to make hard reset :?
Backup on ROM
Just disable the backup using "Settings", "System", "Permanent Save". Make sure all check-boxes are clear.
On my XDA I had another problem: when you have a lot of contacts and tasks, you get an error message: "backup area is full". The only way to get rid of that was to stop sync-ing to ROM.
If you regularily dock your XDA, it is really not needed to do the extra backup on ROM. Your Outlook on your PC will be the backup.
After restoring your normal backup, you need to tell the restore process to replace all items on your device with the items on the computer and off you go...
It worked, thanks ahiemstra.... it was really annoying me, now its gone
I noticed something strange in my XDA I...!! when its docked & connected to the power supply, it goes faster than when it not! :? I donno, maybe its an issue to save battery at the cost of less CPU speed!
I have the same problem with filesys.exe and CPU usage (I have an I-Mate PDA2K). Anything new to solve this?
Thanks!
Mr B
Wow... this has been happening for this long? It's still happening with WM6.

Strange Memory Leak

hi everyone, i would like to know why the hell everytime i insert my SD card i lose about... 10MB of RAM? and when i remove it, they come back, this is really annoying, and no i don't have anything running @ startup from the storage card.
Thanks in advance everyone
I too have been experiencing a memory leak but didn't know whats causing it. Now that you mentioned this, i pulled out my Mini Sd and Ram to 15mb free, i plug it back in now there is 5.7mb free. I just hard reset this morning
What rom are you using? I'm on Summiter's customized 2.17 w/a2dp
and the apps installed on device mem is as follows:
Opera Browser
SPB Pocket +
Resco Explorer V5.40
Skype
Micro. Voice Command
and a bunch of reg edits.
Now i just got some error with "relprog.exe" and i sent the error report and now its down to 4.9MB free..
---------update-----------
I just soft reset and when it turned on it reported 10mb free, took out mini sd and now its at 18 free....
Nothing strange about that. It simply memory reserved for running the SD. card data, working space etc. It's the same thing on your PC. Though you might not notice it since you probably have about 2GB of RAM like me
like someone said i guess we are still beta testing this windblows mobile 5, and alabij, that makes sense but since i have a nokia 6630 too which is on a symbian platform and that does not happen, i really thought this was very strange
we are beta testing(and paying 500bucks)
for wm5
this things gonna happen
double post...
the problem is i don't remember this happening on my Jam(magician) sp3, sp3i or sp5... started recently(within this month) on my kjam(wizard) and i don't think its normal for a storage card to take 10mb of ram to be accessible. My device is basicly crippled with this BS! i can't run anything with 4mb of ram. I think i'm gonna hard reset next week and run my device barebone(nothing installed) and see if it does it just to prove taht 10mb ram is not needed to read a miniSD card.
I've had a lot of headaches over wm devices but this is by far the worst because for every other problem there is a solution. there may be a solution for this, but so far no ones reported one yet.
yes, no way should it take that much to run a memory card. i just tested mine and it takes less than a third of a megabyte. not sure if this helps, but i had a bad card which often brought my mda to its knees trying to cope with it and all its bad sectors. maybe try formating it or trying another.
so is it really just devilboy1488 and I that are experiencing this?

mine did not it uses 4/5 mb.
cinguler 2.2?
where did you get the Cingular Official AKU 2.2 ROM? I have the Cingular 1.8.11.1 right now, I got my phone off of ebay and it was unlocked. If I install the official Cingular ROM will it relock the phone?
What is a normal memory? I was running close to 20, before but I had to hard reset, and now I am down to 14-15. Is that OK? I am using the 2.17 rom, havent updated to the latest yet. It is so much hassle, to keep upgrading.
I'm running the 2.21 ROM and use a 512Mb miniSD. When I eject it my program RAM drops from 17.74Mb to 17.50Mb. It is consistant with every eject and insert. The storage RAM doesn't change at all.
i think i found the problem. Last night i reflashed my device with the official imate rom and after installing all my regular apps and all the reg edits, i was back to square one. From 21mb free to around 10mb after i insterted my memory card. so i undid a few reg edits such as increase font cache, glyph cache, and the 2 enhanced perfomance reg edits which increase storage manager cache sizes. So basicly all the cache increase reg edits were causing this, or so i noticed from my little test. Now i've got 21.95 free without card and 19.65 free with the card in which is a lot better than before

Have u ever seen this?

Just happened on my universal onn the third time
First time happened with WM5, then with WM6 for the second time
THe screen turns to fiull brightness and messages shown in the following screenshots are shown.
The only remedy is soft reset. This even happens sometimes with no apps installed
yeep, I have experience same, I got it same issue with some rom's after sending many many SMS. As I could observe it came from running low memory (even the display shows ca. 13-16 meg)
I had >26MB storage memory and >16MB of program memory

don't think it has anything to do with the storage memory but definitely with the program memory. By some of the ROM's it seams the 14-16 MB memory leading to your problems but some of the ROM's you can run down until 7MB and still no issue.
I use jwright's rom which as we all known as memory leak issues and it's been stable till there was only about 5mb left. after that i couldn't even open a photo (note: no crash or other odd behaviour, just out of memory), and that was when i soft booted.

my wizard really uses alot of battery + storage card prob

hello guys,
since a few months i own a t-mobile mda vario (qtek9100) and i'm very happy with it, but a few weeks ago, my battery drained pretty fast, today i charged my wizard up to 100% and now, a few hours later it's already down to 76% i didn't use it alot, usually my wizard uses like 30% of the battery per 24h, that is with smsing a bit and checking my mail a few times, not using it alot and not overclocked or something.
the today screen plugins i'm using are;
wisbard advance 2 (not exactly a today plugin but i thought it was worth mentioning)
spb phonesuite
with the today plugin wich contains; spb pocket plus, spb weather, spb toplay, phonesuite weather tab, phonesuite, spb
spb diary
spb insight
windows live plugin
i'm running it with the standard tmobile rom and wm5
sometimes i do overclock my wizard and have it running on 247mhz, but mostly i don't have my program (xcpuscalar running) and it still uses alot of battery, which i find pretty damn annoying.
so i'm asking you guys if you have any idea about what causes this superfast drain of battery and perhaps the solution to this problem.
i was thinking mayb even when i close xcpuscalar it is still active controlling the cpu speed? but on the other hand, when i clock my device back to 195mhz it still runs out of battery pretty fast.
2nd problem
i also have another problem.
when i reboot my htc wizard, it doesn't find my storage card because it creates a map called "storage card" and renames my storage card to "storage card2" deleting the map storage card and reinserting my card usually solves the problem, but its damn annoying to do everytime and i was hoping you guys know the solution to this
what i think causes the problem is that i store my temp internet files, messaging files, history etc. on my storage card, but i did this for quite some time and didn't have no problems with it at all and all of a sudden i get this problem.
what do you guys think could solve this problem?
thanks alot in advance!
Greetings Richard
for problem one...could it be the weather prog or other progs that routinely search the internet to update it's information? data transfer can usually drain your battery quicker than no activity.
for the second one, that seems to be a problem that happens from time to time for people...perhaps your memory card is getting loose often. make sure it's pushed in and not moving...otherwise...not quite sure...

Memory drain

I noticed in every rom I used that after a while (like half a day) the free memory of the PDA gets drained. For example after a soft reset and with all my software loaded for good, I have 24 MB free but after 6 hours I ll have 17 MB free.
I use the FREEupRAM from sktools and it frees some ram but not all.

Which ROMs and which Radio ROMs specifically. I had had problems with many ROMs - but am running MARY 1.2 and have no memory drain issues.
ROMS : mun's LVSW, AXEL, MARY, INDIGO ... many many more, all with the same issue. I think its a windows mobile issue or something that occurs on every rom.
RADIO : 1.38 - 1.46 - 1.50
Well with the lVSW rom, which does not have HTC Home, I did not have any memory drain.
However with the AX3L, Mary, Mun Indigo Full, using the HTC Home Plug, I had serious memory drains as described above from our friend firiel.
When I disabled the HTC Home pluging and operated them on the standard Today Screens with only SPB Weather programm running, the memory leak was minimal i.e from 24 to 21 in a period of three days.
I believe the problem is not on the ROMS but on the HTC Home plug, and maybe we need to know if it is the case with people who have the original Touch device and the Kaiser, if they also experience these kind of memory leaks.
Generally these user friendly animated programms drain down the memory, I had the same problem with the spb mobile suite application.
Maybe it will be fixed in the future
I do use the spb mobile suite, I ll try uninstalling it workaround and report back
A friend having a trinity with wm5 running exactly the same programs installed as I does not have the same issues even with SPB Mobile suite, so the problem is in only on wm6
I have a DoPOD d810=Trinity running WM5 and have the same problem, SKTools also doesn't revive the Memory to the full SR status of >25MB.
Does anyone know of a small utility that can revive the Maximum Memory without having to do a SR??
