Just happened on my universal onn the third time
First time happened with WM5, then with WM6 for the second time
THe screen turns to fiull brightness and messages shown in the following screenshots are shown.
The only remedy is soft reset. This even happens sometimes with no apps installed
yeep, I have experience same, I got it same issue with some rom's after sending many many SMS. As I could observe it came from running low memory (even the display shows ca. 13-16 meg)
I had >26MB storage memory and >16MB of program memory

don't think it has anything to do with the storage memory but definitely with the program memory. By some of the ROM's it seams the 14-16 MB memory leading to your problems but some of the ROM's you can run down until 7MB and still no issue.
I use jwright's rom which as we all known as memory leak issues and it's been stable till there was only about 5mb left. after that i couldn't even open a photo (note: no crash or other odd behaviour, just out of memory), and that was when i soft booted.

hi everyone, i would like to know why the hell everytime i insert my SD card i lose about... 10MB of RAM? and when i remove it, they come back, this is really annoying, and no i don't have anything running @ startup from the storage card.
Thanks in advance everyone
I too have been experiencing a memory leak but didn't know whats causing it. Now that you mentioned this, i pulled out my Mini Sd and Ram to 15mb free, i plug it back in now there is 5.7mb free. I just hard reset this morning
What rom are you using? I'm on Summiter's customized 2.17 w/a2dp
and the apps installed on device mem is as follows:
Opera Browser
SPB Pocket +
Resco Explorer V5.40
Skype
Micro. Voice Command
and a bunch of reg edits.
Now i just got some error with "relprog.exe" and i sent the error report and now its down to 4.9MB free..
---------update-----------
I just soft reset and when it turned on it reported 10mb free, took out mini sd and now its at 18 free....
Nothing strange about that. It simply memory reserved for running the SD. card data, working space etc. It's the same thing on your PC. Though you might not notice it since you probably have about 2GB of RAM like me
like someone said i guess we are still beta testing this windblows mobile 5, and alabij, that makes sense but since i have a nokia 6630 too which is on a symbian platform and that does not happen, i really thought this was very strange
we are beta testing(and paying 500bucks)
for wm5
this things gonna happen
double post...
the problem is i don't remember this happening on my Jam(magician) sp3, sp3i or sp5... started recently(within this month) on my kjam(wizard) and i don't think its normal for a storage card to take 10mb of ram to be accessible. My device is basicly crippled with this BS! i can't run anything with 4mb of ram. I think i'm gonna hard reset next week and run my device barebone(nothing installed) and see if it does it just to prove taht 10mb ram is not needed to read a miniSD card.
I've had a lot of headaches over wm devices but this is by far the worst because for every other problem there is a solution. there may be a solution for this, but so far no ones reported one yet.
yes, no way should it take that much to run a memory card. i just tested mine and it takes less than a third of a megabyte. not sure if this helps, but i had a bad card which often brought my mda to its knees trying to cope with it and all its bad sectors. maybe try formating it or trying another.
so is it really just devilboy1488 and I that are experiencing this?

mine did not it uses 4/5 mb.
cinguler 2.2?
where did you get the Cingular Official AKU 2.2 ROM? I have the Cingular 1.8.11.1 right now, I got my phone off of ebay and it was unlocked. If I install the official Cingular ROM will it relock the phone?
What is a normal memory? I was running close to 20, before but I had to hard reset, and now I am down to 14-15. Is that OK? I am using the 2.17 rom, havent updated to the latest yet. It is so much hassle, to keep upgrading.
I'm running the 2.21 ROM and use a 512Mb miniSD. When I eject it my program RAM drops from 17.74Mb to 17.50Mb. It is consistant with every eject and insert. The storage RAM doesn't change at all.
i think i found the problem. Last night i reflashed my device with the official imate rom and after installing all my regular apps and all the reg edits, i was back to square one. From 21mb free to around 10mb after i insterted my memory card. so i undid a few reg edits such as increase font cache, glyph cache, and the 2 enhanced perfomance reg edits which increase storage manager cache sizes. So basicly all the cache increase reg edits were causing this, or so i noticed from my little test. Now i've got 21.95 free without card and 19.65 free with the card in which is a lot better than before
i noticed when i use my polaris that the memory is always increasing i tried it with all roms original ones and cooked ones, it starts with 46% and ends up 60% where does this go, and i dont usually keep any programs running always shutdown all the programs after i use. where does this amount of memory go?
Yes, I also have this problem. Without any applications running in the background, the RAM usage is ~40% fresh after soft reset/power turned off then on, then after a few days, RAM usage is ~55%. After this point, I again do a soft reset.
What is actually the problem? Anyway to fix this?
My ROM version is 1.26.457.1 WWE
Radio version is 1.58.25.14
Memory leak
The memory leak problem does not happen only in Polaris, it's a known issue on WM devices.
To solve the problem i've found a little aplication that works great for me: "Auto Reset".
With it i can have a daily soft-reset at any time that i choose.
So now my device doesn't have any memory problems.
You can find it for free here:

memory leak
good app , but this is not a solution for the problem, it happens when u run programs and then close them, so those the operating system do not clear up the memory.
excuse my english
Hello,
Being used HD for one week, I found one problem about memory consumption (not a problem actually ).
At startup, about 120M free memory, after using for one day (Opera, view picture, games, stock manager, etc), only about 80M RAM left.
I have tried to use
- oxios memory
- MemMaid 2.0
but it can only free 1-2M RAM, where is my RAM
Yes, I found out the same problem! Try to do a reset and the memory is cleaned again. I use the X button to kill all programs after using them, but it seems to be fludding on a regular basis, also activesync program keep popping up when I'm not connected, and the memory usage slowely gets higher every hour with a few procent.
Does anyone else has the same prob? Didn't use special appz yet, because it doesn't seem to disturb working with device.
greetz,

Until the phone starts having problems, why worry? With every new device there are threads like this with people obsessing over the amount of free RAM their devices show, but honestly you can just leave Windows Mobile to deal with the RAM itself and you'll never have a problem. There's no need to try and recover all the RAM that you think should be free. The OS will take care of it.
I have the same problem. My guess is it a memory leak in some apps. ITs no big deal, because there is lots of free memory and if it really bugs me, I can do a soft reset every now and then.
Yes, it is not a problem to me until now as there are plenty of RAM available!
I just curious about the kinds of program that consume the memory??
From my observation, WM OS is not doing the job of memory management well.

Clearing your browser cache will retrieve some of it
(unless you have it to cache to the storage card)
I don't bother too much with this as it does not seem to become a problem.
But, I don't "load and leave" applications. I also generally do a soft reset once a week.
However, in SK Tools there is a "FreeUP RAM" application as part of the suite. I just ran it and it recovered 2 mbytes (a bit less than 1 %)
@ Swantony001 :
Hi, there is a thead about stopping Active-Sync activating itself all the time.
Works perfectly for me.

Greetings,
go42
the memory leak does cause problems for me, well with tomtom7 it does. sometimes i get the message "not enough memory" unpon booting TT and am forced to do a soft reset.
its not often, but the fact it happens piddles me off!
Hi, guys!
I've noticed the same thing! Something consumes active memory!!!
I watched some processes... So "cprog.exe" and "device.exe" eat memory from time to time.
I use Soft Reset once a day or in two days.
If anyone gets a new WWE ROM with that bug being fixed, please, let me know .
Memory consumption is not a big problem now, but it's a bit annoying...

Damn never experienced this problem before *touches wood*
Yeah i have experience the memory leaking up starting from 38% to 44% in a matter of hours.
No biggie, but if it comes down to problems like jonajuna experienced then, yes that is a problem.
My Touch became progressively slow to the point where it hardley runs and storage mem is down to .04MB for some reason. Without installing anyting or making any huge changes to the phone what sort of things can cause it to suddenly become slow? I'm hoping there is a quick fix so I don't have to perform a hardboot. I noticed that the mxip_notify file is about 4.5MB but maybe this is normal. Here is what I am also noticing:
- mxip_notify file 4.5MB
- clock on HTC home screen doesn't change
- softboot does not improve performance
- low memory warning message constantly pops up informing me that I need
to free some memory.
This is the original ROM.
Thanks in advance.
In my experience is that you need to do a hard reset, I know its a hastle, but it helps speed it up loads.
my touch used to run out of memory as well, then i connected it to my pc, and browsed to computer\htc touch\application data\info feed\cache and cleared all the data that was there, it freed about 6 MB, also cleared the feeds folder, and freed another 2 MBs, the performance seems to have improved and i no longer get the out of memory error. i dont know if this is the culprit in ur case, but it worked for me, so u can give that a try . or try opening each and every folder in ur Touch through windows and see what files are taking lots of space. also i recently installed Home Screen ++ with which OCd my processor to 266MHz and in certain apps the performence boost is amazing. u can try that as well.
I was really hoping I would not have to hard reset my Touch since installing applications can be a pain and I have a lot of SMSs I would not like to loose. I have seen applications out there that back up SMSs and allow you to restore the SMSs back on the phone but I am not confident it will work.
And while hard resetting will solve the problem, it does not ultimately answer why my Touch suddenly ran out of space.
I'm wondering what the size of most user's mxip_notify file is.
I've been having quite a big problem recently. Something has been sucking internal memory like crazy. I've flashed several ROMs and still have the same problem of the low memory alert.
I flashed another ROM today and had 144MB of internal memory at noon. Now, without downloading any apps or doing anything major, I now have 133MBs for internal storage. I've currently been using a2sd because iGo is a total space hog and its better than the native gps app imho (doesnt seem to lose GPS signal every few minutes)
The other issue I'm having is the GPS. Its pretty much crucial to me right now because I've been going from Thousand Oaks to LA and everywhere in between and have only found two ROMs that I dont have GPS problems with. Those: EE4.0 and Aloysius
However, both of those have been giving me the low memory warning constantly and I cannot recover space no matter what I delete. I tried deleting iGo (a huge app) and it only accounted for a few MB (the full app is over 20)
I'm quite confused and have never had this problem before.
I've searched the web and it seems theres no solution available at the moment and Froyo takes care of it.

Well, about the internal memory storage, it could be your cache. Try downloading an app called CacheMate; I'm not sure about the free version, but the paid version has a 'Power Clear' option that clears ALL the cache on your phone. It usually clears about 8-14MB of cache everyday.
Also, 11MB really isn't really a big deal at all, as it will function just as well with 133MB as it will with 144MB.
