I love my HD2 but the HTC music player is really slow when having lots of music (a 16 Gb card with maybe 1500 songs or so). It takes maybe 15-30 seconds before it is ready to use. Is this normal and is there any way to improve the speed?
I have the same problem very annoying. And slow to scroll through music in song view
Even worse is that it seems to do some rescan of all the music everytime you wake the phone, if the music tab is active, so you can't do anything until its finished. Very annoying.
Same for me with my 16Gb card. There should be an option to update manually instead of always automatically. Grr! I will still continue to use it though because the whole library and album selection is the best I've ever used on a WM Phone. Very comparable to the iPhone if not better IMO
My music player stopt after 20/30 sec. Anyone have noticed this problem?
It's driving my nuts
Do you keep all of your songs in the same folder or separate ones? I have about 1000 songs and no more than 30/folder and it takes me about 2seconds to load up the music player.

so you are telling that we need to put all music in one folder and that will speed up Mplayer??? i've got same problem with mine as well.
i got all albums in seperate folders (50+) and the music is shown immediately. No lag when scrolling through song-view as well. Got a german one with german rom.
Maybe very slow sd-card? tnyynt-sd-tuneup installed?
And what about the cover art if you keep the music in just a few folders? I did a try to speed things up by removing all *.jpg files and instead only use the embedded cover arts (My thought was that few files must mean a faster scan). That mostly resulted in me loosing coverarts on a lot of albums (Even due they have embedded pictures) so I guess there are some limitations in the use of embedded pictures?
thats strange i only got embedded covers and they work. Which programm did you use? i used mp3tag...

As long as you don't keep all of your music in the same folder it's going to load up quickly.
This is a repost from me in another thread about the same problem:
---
I have experienced exactly the same problem and found a way to solve it. I had over 500 MP3 songs in one folder on a microSD card. Playing them was terrible, the same problems you mention: stutter, freezing, buffering and the entire phone seemed to be unresponsive at times.
Then I played a very large MP3 file (about 1 hour in length) and I had no troubles at all. That surprised me, because I expected (because of the constant buffering) this would not play at all. What suddenly hit me was that this large file was the only MP3 file in a separate folder.
So I moved a couple songs (which stuttered very much) to another folder and they played without any problem.
The solution I used was this: I deleted the single folder with to over 500 MP3's and added the songs through the Media Player of my PC. This way, the folder structure in the music folder is: Artist/Album/Songs. So every single folder with songs contains only a few MP3 files.
After that I let the Media Player rescan the microSD card. All the songs were detected and they all play without any worry.
Best regards,
Willem (Netherlands)
Well mine remains slow My structure is /Music/Artists/Album and around 2000 songs.
This structure is automatic when you sync with WMPlayer.
I found if you ignore this structure you get "Audiomanager.exe has crashed" after 5 mins of playing (see another of my posts).
Maybe it's something to do with the SD Card?
Do micro SD cards have various classes like normal SD cards?
Mine is a Sandisk 16GB, but that's all it says.

Yes they have different classes, but as many have already pointed out the lag is mostly due to an improper folder structure. So just move them by hand and dont put all of your songs in the same folder.

Mine is also a Sandisk 16GB. I can't imagine you would need a high class microSD card, since all it needs to do is relatively easy reading straight forward files. It would be different if you needed to save enormous amounts of data.
And since I don't have folders anymore with hundreds of MP3's in them, my problem is solved.
EDIT: I used the same microSD card with the same songs in a HD (Blackstone) without problems...

Thought so! As I said my file structure is properly created by Windows Media Player 12, /music/artist/album being the structure and it still lags like hell!

Willem, so you are doing the opposite of what Toss2 said above and amalgamated all your songs into one folder?
Who's right? lol!!

Why don't you try and see for yourself. I had over 1000 songs in one folder to begin with and noticed that it took almost 30 seconds for the music player to even start. I then thought I'd try moving them around a bit and noticed that the load times were cut to two seconds and that the lag was gone once I had moved them to folders with no more than 50 songs in each. You also notice the speed increase in adding music files to windows media player's playlist.

Nope, the lag, stutter and buffering only happens when I do have hundreds of files in 1 folder.
Since I have put the songs on the SDcard through Windows (7) Media Player (12) everything is fine.
Willem
Their is two part to the solution:
1) Don't put all the files in the same folder (if you sync using WMP, it may do so)
2) Format your SD card.... but using the "Format SD Card" utility on the phone (Start menu => Tools => Format SD Card in WWE ROM). This very help me (and my phone).. And now, it's only a little long after a soft reset, when going in the music tab for the first time
im leary about buying this pocket player, because i downloaded for my htc hd2 and it wont play any music files or vid files, i went to to associations in settings and there not checked, and it will not allow me to check them.
is the pocketplayer compatible with the HD2?
change settings / associations
bought it 1 month ago, very happy with it, only listen to audio books not tried video (tcpmp meets my needs) in order to select an item settings/associations tap on the item you want to select, it will hilight then bring up keyboard and press enter, hope this helps. ps works perfectly on my hd2
thanks alot for your reply!! ive been wanting to try to find agood player.
i finally got the settings down now thanks to you!!
next question.. ive went to menu, options library and added my storage card\ music. then tried to play ANY files on my storage card but it wont play or add any of them? and they are all mp3??? they all added fine on windows media player on htc, and they all add fine tcpmp, and coreplayer, but they won't add in pocket player? but it has added all the os ringtones? and custom ringtones ive added to the ringtones folder on the device(not storage card) also it did find my videos. all avi's and it won't play any of them?
any other tips would be appreciated. i dont wanna buy a product that i cannot even get the trial to work!
Thanks for your time and patience!
To make "checking" work, you MUST enable virtual keyboard. Use up/down and enter keys.
BT keyboard also does the trick.
This is a common issue of WM 6.5. I have same problem with pocket player too.
still doesnt work .. this is sad for me caus eim a comp tech and consider myself VERY tech savy. so sorry guys
ive watched while its scanning folders, and it never goes to storage card? just scans... is c program files flip disc? wont goto storage card, and in pocket player settings library folder it shows i have \storage card\music and \storage card\video to monitor for files. and i DO NOT have c program files\flip disc selected.
adding files from memory card
as i said i only use it for audio books and dont use the library but i can tell you how i use it which might meet your needs (i assume "the library" allows you to select contents of a playlist via mp3 tags), i add a book via the "open folder" option this will recurse all sub
directories from the chosen folder and add them to current playlist. i then save the current
playlist via the browse->playlist option, as i said unless your music is well organized this might not suit.
i have just tried creating playlists via album and arist this worked fine all my files are on sd card. just checking are we talking about same player "conduits pocketplayer v4.1", have you tried emailing them, i found their tech support to be v efficient & helpful.
good luck, and happy to help
EDIT - my two pennies worth
works well with cheap ipod handsfree from ebay as play pause work
when device locked (important feature for me), it is currently my
audiobook player of choice beating out rockbox on old ipod, one less
gadget and playback speed adjust with constant pitch.

I've been using it (I assume you mean Conduit's version) for years now and am now using it on the HD2 with just the minor problem mentioned already (needing to use a soft keyboard to change settings).
Messing with Zoomify on it now, because I had some problems getting precise clicking on the bar where I wanted to jump ahead in a podcast.
If you're still having problems, send them an email - in the past I've found that they were very responsive to problems (same day replies).

I have searched everywhere, but I know this has to have been listed before.
I have about 4gb of music I'm syncing from my PC, but when I pull up music on phone (no playlist) I see all the music on my device AND the music I synced.
I want to ONLY see the music I add. For photos, there was a reg key I added to set which folders were ignored. Is there a way to do that for music as well?
Ur Own Music
zim 2323 - this drove me cRaZy for a couple of weeks until I downloaded OMarket and got "Nitrogen".
I can click and drag my music from my PC instead of having to sync (if you have already d/l double twist - get rid of it - more pain than it's worth) and the system music files are omitted in Nitrogen.
I did the same thing and it ONLY shows the music I added?! I am having trouble understanding what you are trying to do?! I dont have music on the phone and it only pools what I have on my storage card. When i first loaded music it said it was searching for music and it found everthing I added.

Hey Zim Yes, I think there's a regedit method for this, but the way I do it is to just figure out which folders I need to exclude and then navigate to them in Total Commander, long-press, and choose "properties"...you can then choose to hide the folder just like in regular windows. For me, it turned out that just hiding the "program files" folder on the SD card was enough, but I'm sure you can handle it if there's more you need to hide.
Unfortunately I can't hide program files on the sd card because I have to see the folder for software I use/install.
I also do not want to use 3rd party media players. I want to load music and play natively in sense.
When I goto music TAB it finds every MP3 on ROM nad SD memory. I only want to see music located in \storage card\my documents\music.

No folder that I've hidden this way seems to be invisibile to me or the sys...they still show up in file explorer, and are still directly accessible by apps etc, they just don't get indexed.
I have a branded T-Mobile HD2. So far, I'm loving it, but it has WAY too much preloaded crap that I don't need such as games, AIM, facebook, etc. Is there a way to delete all that?
Thanks!
use the built in file explorer, go to My Device/ Program Files and delete the folders for the stuff you don't want. Some of the games and the transformers movies are on the storage card.
Then using the file explorer, go to My Device/ Windows/ Start Menu/ Programs and delete all the shortcuts for those programs.
I need help with Cloud Storage for my N4. I have an 8GB model and I have like 3 GB left of space, but I don't want to use that up since I have to leave some room for rooting with CWM, Titanium Backup, and a few ROM's. I want to put my music into cloud storage. How would I do that? What about my photos, documents, etc? I have Box and Dropbox for now. The music part is something that is important because I want to listen to my tunes on my phone.

You don't need to leave room for rooting, just your backups.
Far as cloud stuff, Google Play Music. Can just stream all your music that way (as I got over 24GB of music, I wouldn't put it all on my phone but I can stream it no problem with google music. )
Music is probably going to be the bulk of your storage, aside from that probably movies, which I'd stream too, either from cloud or from home PC.
I wish the Nexus 4 was compatible with USB-OTG (without the extra power adapter) because then I would just use an 8GB Thumbdrive like I do with my Nexus 7 and TWRP Recovery (which supports USB-OTG), since it will save my backups directly to the thumbdrive, as well as install roms and such from it, no space taken on the device to do it.

You have to download it onto your computer and sign in with your google account. It will let you pick which source it will sync and upload music from (in my case it takes from my iTunes library and uploads it into google). I think currently the limit is like 20,000 of your own songs on the cloud that you can stream to wherever you sign into be it the web or on google's music app on android.
If you go here: https://play.google.com/music/ you should see an "upload music" button on the top right, which on a PC or Mac will download the Music Manager.
It's similar to how iTunes match works, except free (but only supports Mp3, it'll convert aac and such to mp3 as it's uploading to the google cloud). You can set it to only upload that first time, or to upload each time you add new songs like if I add new songs to my iTunes library, it'll upload.
Just remember, on your phone if you "pin" an album, it saves that album locally to your phone so it will take up space if you pin it, but not if you just stream it.

Ok, thanks. 8 GB with no SD has people moving around to manage space. At least my apps don't eat up all my memory like some other people. I couldn't afford the 16 GB edition, but the 8GB model is fine enough for me. I love my N4 since I have been using it for just a week.
PS: The main annoying thing about Google Music is that they tend to add a "free" track/song to your library every so often. Which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing, if it was music that I actually liked. But you can always go over to the left on their site to "Free and Purchased", and just delete the free tracks you don't want as opposed to sorting thru your entire library.

Yea I know the feeling, I have both a 16GB Nexus 4 and 16GB Nexus 7 (I didn't have a choice on which Nexus 4 T-Mobile was selling, but 17/month for the phone ain't bad if you look at the 60$ higher price as interest on a loan).
For music on android, Google Music (I use iTunes Match for my iPad, but I haven't used it in a while since I got the Nexus 7, and I already have an iPod Nano 6th Generation that's 16GB).
For movies or videos, I usually stream off my home computer using Plex, it's rather handy once you get used to how to organize the folders and file names (Plex seems to prefer Files like "Movie Name (year)", and if there are any subtitles you just name them the same, TV series are usually "Show Name - s##e## - Optional Episode Name.avi")
But course now days a lot of people use stuff like netflix, hulu, crackle, etc, but plex is nice if it's something not available on those (plus it's free outside of the app for android/iOS/WindowsPhone).
