the internet explorer iconed button, on the top left hand corner; Button 2
is kinda playing up
It seems it is almost permanently pressed, though it doesn't seem stuck, when it is enabled the shortcut program or function continues to run; e.g. pie keeps starting (I've tried changing the shortcut and there's the same effect on any function I set to the button)
I've done a hard-reset, changed rom, but it persists, so its definitely a hardware fault. The main problem with it is, even if I minimize PIE for example, the hardware buttons remain unusable unless i unassign everything from that button.
I've tried cleaning where i can etc. but to no avail
its not a huge problem, heck it doesn't really matter if I need to keep that button without function, its just one of those little annoying and niggly problems, and maybe someone else has had the same and found a solution
if not its ok, and thank for reading

The above picture shows the two micro-switches (Silver blocks with round black protrusions). It would be well nigh impossible to dismantle these - replacement may be possible, though I suspect you would only be able to buy the board complete.
You say you have tried cleaning. Do you mean externally or internally. It may be possible that the micro switch is not releasing due to a detritus build up internally or some misalignment of the pasic facia switch cover. The micr-switches even when pressed via the facia plastic should give a discernable soft click when pressed.
Mike
firstly thank you very much, for all your effor, its well appreciated my friend.
I've tried cleaning externally only and yes it probably is a buildup of dirt internally, but I don't think I'll be dismantling the device as its only a small proble, and once I've removed the assigned function from that button its not problematic. But if it gets worse, starts again etc. I'll have to, so thanks very much.
Thank you.
No probs. Might just start working again by itself if the blockage gets dislodged.

Hello all,
I opened the Magician to repair the phone speaker, but also painting the housing. As I carefully document the parts I found one piece of hardware that draw my attention. I have a clue what it might be, but would like to share it, so maybe you know what it might be.
First some pictures

Location of the unknown hardware. When you hold your magician face up (screen up) it's under the red phone button.
piece we're talking about.
Where the 2 contact point on the unknown hardware connect to. Just like the phone speaker it kind of floats, so no wires..
As I watched carefully I noticed the shape of a half cylinder. By moving your PDA vertically/horizontally the heavy side moves towards where gravity is, meaning it always points down. (see picture 2)
I think it's some kind of hardware that suppose to, if a software supports it, turn your PDA display horizontal or vertical when you turn it. Something like iPhone demonstrated or even closer Wizard. Wizard's screen automatically goes in horizontal mode when the keypad is sliced out.
If this unknown hardware is what I think it is, why isn't used then? It would be a very nice feature
What do you think it is?
its your vibration motor.
ie: when you have 'vibrate' enabled, and your phone rings, that little motor spins like crazy and the uneven shape of the weight creats the vibration.
Yes, Definately that is the vibration motor.
Yeah... I forget Magician was a phone too... Since I don't use the phone I lost focus
Anyway... It would be great if it could have the ability to turn the screen auto. My guess would be that if that small motor could send it's position back to a chip it should be possible for software (OS for example) to act. (dual function)
I'm trying to fix my vibrator and your pics would help but the links no longer work.
Can you please relink or rehost them or send them to me?
Is there any way to tighten up the part that slides? If so I would appreciate it.
Hi, you may try this, seems simple enough.

Click to collapse
The above suggestion, takes up a bit of the slack. But if you want a firm fix that goes to the source of the problem and get a true lock into open and closed positions then go here:

And for a little discussion about it here (or in fact on a few threads here at XDA-Dev.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298784
Of course for this FIX you need to be willing to strip down the phone and get right to actual sliders themselves - which is of course warranty voiding if you have one. A slider/runner is shown below:

If your mechanism does not firmly click open and closed it is because the little indents you see on the sliders (eg right end of the slider in the pic) are not quite deep enough. (there are two sliders and four indents - one at each end of each slider) The metal is fairly but not overly soft so a gentle tap with a small flat blade screwdriver will increase its depth. Don't over do it though or you'll end up with the opposite problem of the click clsed and open being too firm.
In some extreme cases, folks have found that the slider has actually sprung open. You can see little micro-welds running round the slider holding it closed. In the example above the person had to use some super glue to hold the two parts together (I think you can just see it at the end near the indent. Of course if you have access to a micro welder then that would be even better. Note this is probable more rare and there is an alternative to gluing on the first link).
The first link gives a couple of dismantling guides, and there is also the Service Manual that gives a set of dismantling pics available here:

thanx for the help guys
Ok my screen works, alignment is whack because the CENTER of screen doesnt work. I have seen a few people have had same problem but saw no results that worked. so open invitation to those that are skilled.
KJAM with WM6
Problem: the exact center of the screen does not work, its about exactly 1 centimeter to each extreme. on screen alignment it takes about 10 tries to finally exit alignment mode, *i dont know if its tired of trying to align it, that it just gives up* but screen center still does not work. everything else is fine but it doesnt work.
Tested the problem: to see the exact affected area i went into notes with draw mode. i made tons of horizontal and vertical lines through the inner part of the screen to see which was th area that didnt work. and it looks like this.

efforts to fix:
HKLM>drivers>touch panel>pressure threshold (couldnt find the folder)
Hard Reset
moved stylus around screen
soft reset
landscape & portrait mode
keyboard open & keyboard close
safe mode
synced & un synced
I think i have tried most of what i could guess and what i have read in related threads but no luck.
I haven't flashed the rom because i have a latest one and it was fine at first when i upgraded to WM6 until about a month later.
so i am in mexico right now and easy to say that wizard parts & wizards are hard to get here so i am thinking of getting a new screen all together from the US, so before i spend 40 dollars, i am asking for help to you guys.
I hope yall can help me. thanks.

is there any way to 3 finger salute hd2? so you dont have to pull battery when os is freezing
reson is i use otterbox defender, and softreset button or pull battery when os freezing is a really tedious and tiring process
help please, maybe there is any hidden hardbutton combination to softreset?
or maybe anyone could make or mod it?
This is the only solution I've found:

Cool! Is there any special reason for such a huge hole? It just seems to me that a 1mm hole should be sufficient.
By the way, I've also made two 1mm holes in the otter box defender's left bottom plastic stud (the mic opening is in the right one) - they hold a lanyard perfectly (will make an image and post in a new thread soon).
If you are using android press the volume up+down+power button
Right, but don't try that with WM, it's for factory reset (all you data will be gone).
Hmm! May be it's really possible with custom ROMS and/or boot loaders then?
If the OS freezes then NO software will be running, therefore it is not possible to do what the OP is asking.
But what about the factory reset? If it will work, perhaps it can be intercepted?
Factory reset means hard reset, which is powering off the device and holding both volume buttons down whilst powering it back up - that can't be done through software if the OS is frozen. The only way to do that would be to press the reset button or remove/replace the battery.
There is literally 100% no way to power off or reset the device through software, if the OS if frozen.
Well, sometimes it's hard to tell if that's the entire OS is frozen, or just some software is too hungry for resources. I had an issue with the Core Player (TCPMP) freezing, which was blocking all the buttons and the screen taps together, but sometimes unfreeze them for a moment and go through the keypress events queue for a couple of steps. So the events were registered anyway. That happened only 3 times in 15 minutes, so I had to reset the device... The point is - a reset combination handled at the lowest OS level might be of a great help.
I am on lollipop and use stock rom, never tried to root or something like that, my phone is new I have it for like 1 month until now
This is an old thread started by me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/center-zone-touchscreen-dead-to-finger-t3219392
Some spot in my touchscreen was dead to finger, and "#2663# -> TSP FW update" fixed the problem to me.
Right now I had another touchscreen problem, was most difficult to replicate, happened when I keep the finger pressed, then the touchscreen got some kind of fail in that specific spot and stopped holding the press, I noticed because it was on the keyboard, and couldnt keep pressed R button to make the "4" appear, instead i got "rrrrrrr" (because touchscreen cant detect my finger pressed). When this happended, when I tried to swype over that zone, the detection was deflected or something like that (english is not my first language sorry)
Look at it

And this time AGAIN, "#2663# -> TSP FW update" fixed the problem for me.
The most weird thing ?? Both time the problem was gone when I grabbed the pone with one hand and used my other hand fingers in the touchscreen, BOTH THIS PROBLEMS WERE ONLY REPLICATED USING THE PHONE OVER A SURFACE, TABLE, BED, FLOOR, JUST WITH ONE HAND TOUCHING THE PHONE AND ON THE SCREEN. WHEN I GRABBED WITH ANOTHER I COULDNT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
WHAT IS ****ING HAPPENING HERE, IS THIS NORMAL ???
Why #2663# and select TSP FW update -> always fix my problems ? is my phone broken ?
sorry for the giant pic, i dont know how to make spoilers in this forum
sorry for the giant pic, i dont know how to make spoilers in this forum
I may be wrong about this but this looks like a grounding problem. When you're using one hand to hold the phone, the charge from your hand using the phone is able to flow through your hand that is holding it. When you use it on an insulating material (eg. wood, cloth) the charge is unable to flow from the affected area which makes it unable to detect your touches.
should I change the phone ? I am the only one with this problem ? Why the update fixed the issue every time ?
