Hi guys. I'm in the usa. as you american know that in the USA people get charged for recieving message. anyway Everytime I send a message, I recieve a message back from "system administrator". Is this what the universal does or is it from the carrier I use ? I'm wondering if I get charged from that message delivery confirmation. thanks
Check the SMS account options and uncheck the "Request delivery notifications" setting. It's enabled by default in some ROM versions.
But the question is....
do you get charged for the notification? I never really thought about it before but mine is turned off.

that's what I want to know too
It isn't charged usually. And the name "System Administrator" is just a label assigned by your HTC. It works the same for me here in Sri Lanka, the notifications are free. However, you should check with your carrier to make sure there isn't a hidden cost for this, because after all, bandwidth is being used to send the delivery notice.
I was thinking(stop laughing) really and truly you shouldn't be charged for it because all you are getting is notification from your message center that it's out of there hands and delivered to the message center of the other party, because if the other parties phone is turned off he/she won't recieve it.
Correct me if I'm wrong?
what do you mean by "message center" ? like the notification is from a built in software in the universal ?

You can turn off this sms notification option
If you want to change sms notification
you should write a COM server and register it place of standart COM object

Well, its been a while since I am trying to get sms confirmations but they dont seem to work.
Everytime I enable the checkbox asking for confirmation but all i get is SMS sent message which is almost instantenous. I know there is a tweak to activate sms delviery notification by default so that you dont have to click the checkbox everytime but nothing works.
I saw a program which allows you to get your contact name in the delivery confirmation but in my case I just dont get any confirmations.
Using: qtek 9100 with factory ROM 9/22/05 on cingular.
Or could it be a cingular problem ?
Guys, please let me know

Could be your network operator's problem, could also be a problem with the recipient's network operator. Both networks have to support the feature. Try with somebody else's SIM for an entirely different network - preferably after making sure that it works for them on their phone; assuming your device is SIM-unlocked.. if not, either unlock it (void warranty and whatnot) or just ask Cingular whether it's supported at all (good luck getting an answer beyond template replies)

Thanks for the reply. Well, I see your signature and I have the same device with the same ROM as yours. Do you have this problem ? Are you able to get delivery notifications. IF yes, then please let me know which provider to do connect to.
I tried calling cingular, and they were so dumb that they started giving me solutions like poweroff and on your phone etc. So i just had to cut it short with them.
I wish they had a technical support team.
well, sounds like you got fed "The Script" by cingular... a bunch of places with support sites have their people read a 'script'... it's long, tedious, and very often for people like 'us' who do know what they're doing it'll feel rather ridiculous and pointless. If it's a free number, though, walk through it - if nothing else they'll give you a case file at the end and somebody higher up to talk to. Could ask for the higher-up from the get-go, but they tend to ask you whether you did all the things the lower-down asked you to do, and if you say 'no' or 'yes' (lied), they just send you back
Anyway, on to your question...
Yep - it works fine for me. I'm using a Lebara Mobile SIM, which used to connect to the Telfort NL network, but appears to be connected to the O2 NL network at the moment. I've sent text messages to people in NL on Vodafone and Orange, to one person in the USA on Verizon and one person in Australia whose provider name I don't know They've always worked for me - always getting a "delivery notification" text message - typically just a few seconds after sending, though I've had it happen that it took several minutes as well.

This could well be the network as I had a similar problem when I was back in the UK recently and connected to O2. They don't support deliver confirmations on their network as standard but you could add a 4 digit sequence to each outgoing text message that would then give you a delivery message back. Pain in the ass but it was fine for the week I was back.
I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and I know you can prefix an SMS with *0# to get a delivery report issued. I'm using that quite a bit at the moment as the normal delivery report notifications don't seem to differentiate correctly between pending and fully delivered messages - i.e. on my Vario both report that the message has been delivered, which for a pending message is completely wrong.
Do other people get this problem too, by the way? Using *0# option you can get a full pending or a full delivered message, complete with the actual delivery time/date info and the system's message-ID number so you can match the pending report to the delivered item.
Andre
*0# didn't work on my Lebara (from PPC to old phone)
but it did work on Vodafone (from old phone to PPC)
funnily enough the *0# remains part of the text message on both ends
Edit: and looks like vodafone charged me an extra 3 eurocents for the service %)

Did you remember to leave a space after the # ?
I didn't the first time and it was delivered with the message )

Oh this is something I didnt know, so I should try it. Not sure whether cingular supports it or not but lets see. By the way when you say prefix an SMS, do you mean the number to whom we send the sms or the sms text ?
From v8Dave's response I guess you have to prefix the txt with this code. Can you confirm ?

With O2 you prefix your message with it and the network strips this off the message before sending to the recipient. Remember to add a space after it otherwise it does not work and the recipient gets the whole message with the *0# at the start.

Yep - tried that after googling around to see if I'm doing it wrong on the wizard and noticed that somebody mentioned that it was "star zero hash space".. still gets sent along %) Very odd
~ Z
On T-Mobile UK, the *0# (star zero hash) message prefix is correctly stripped off the message whether you use a space afterwards or not. You still lose 3 characters from your 160 maximum, though.
Could someone confirm whether they have the same problem as me with their normal Delivery Reports system though? i.e. when I send an SMS to a phone which is currently switched off, I get a "Delivered" report on my Vario almost immediately, and then another identical "Delivered" report whenever the SMS really is delivered to the recipient's phone. The first report should say "Pending", of course.
It works correctly when I use the *0# method, so I'm wondering whether the T-Mobile software in the Vario is re-wording the delivery report in some way, but getting it wrong for "Pending" status reports?
Andre
Is there a way to make my ppc advice me when a sms' delivery is FAILED?

Failure notification is dependent on your operator. They keep trying and eventually give up. Orange UK takes about 3 days then I get a text saying undeliverable.

I'm talking about a notification which would come when your ppc hasn't line.. So when your operator's line isn't avaible....
And the ppc doesn't send the sms...
I apologise for reopening an old thread, but I second this.
I like to have delivery reports turned on, however I don't like the fact that it is the same tone as my sms.
Is there a way of assigning a different tone to delivery reports or even have delivery reports turned on, but not receive an audible warning, but just a message only?
Thanks in advance
i put delivery reports on but never get them. think its o2 uk network. i dont think u can change it, as its not in the sound settings as a choice that u can change. maybe there is an app somewhere that gives u more options that u could install.

O2 don't handle delivery reports in the same way as other networks.
You can get round this my putting *0# at the beginning of your text message. It's invisible to the recepient, but tells the GSM network to send you a delivery report.

Vodafone does have the capability and I do like them, just not the same tome or any tone....
thanks tried it and it worked
Can anyone still help with this one please?
This won't work because the delivery report is a SMS too.
The phone do not know that it is a report.

Is there any way to have them not come through as a new message that needs opening to clear the notifcation and then stays in your inbox?
Can we not have it just pop up on the screen for a few seconds and then dissapear to their own folders like on a Nokia for example?
Really annoying having every other message in my inbox a delivery report!!
Cheers!
I'm with you on that. Really anoying.
Yeah, I always like to have DR on but i've turned them off right now until/if I can find a solution!!
Same here, my old P1i treated the delivery reports as some kind of push message, I had to read them, but after that they were nowhere to be found but as an addition to to sms itself in the "sent" folder saying something like "successfully delivered at ..." when you looked at the details of the sms.
really really annoying that the reports stay in the inbox and mess up the whole conversation. we really need a fix here.
You guys are lucky. I can't even get delivery reports on my phone. I wonder if it is to do with the network not allowing them? I am on O2 in UK.

availability of deliveery reports depend on your network. As far as i know, O2 dont have delivery reports.
so.. after half a year, are there any updates on it?
I don't use delivery reports due to this issue.
Therefore, I use "Message Sent" notifications. I'll provide the reg-tweak to enable this feature. Depending on your ROM, you might have one of these or both of these:
Code:
[COLOR=black]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\NoSntMsg = 0 (default is 1)[/COLOR]
[COLOR=black]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\NoSntMsg = 0 (default is 1)[/COLOR]
These are just pop-up notifications, and they don't save at all. But at least one knows the message was sent.
Hello!
Do you know of any software for our HD2, that will change the behavior of receiving sms delivery reports?
My Blackberry has an icon, that just changes, if a message has been delivered successfully. Even after 6 month i can see, if a message has been delivered.
I don't like the windows mobile default behavior of creating a "system message" that needs to be marked as unread ans so on.
Who can help me?
Sebastian
SMS delivery reports are a network thing. Call your operator and ask about them being turned off.

This is not exactly what he means.
He means that once the option is enabled, he wants the software to have some sort of icon that will be put next to the message that has been sent once a delivery report comes in. The current situation, however, is that the delivery report will be put into the conversation as a 'new sms' and therefore is less practical.
I am also curious about this, however I don't think this is actually something a program can change for you, as it'd require HTC messaging client modifications. It's just the way Windows Mobile 6.x handles these reports.
Ahhhh I see. I wasn't aware of the icon thingy in the RIM OS (or whatever bberrys run on...)
I was mainly pointing out that windows mobile does not create a system message
"I don't like the windows mobile default behavior of creating a "system message"
and that it is in fact the carrier that generates the message.
Yet another tid bit to add to the hoarde of useless information clogging my brain.

I have the same issue, any hint?
I am interesed for this too
I have also been searching a long time for the same feature as most of the others here.
In my opinion it worked actually much better in WM6 where it just popped up a system message that the SMS had been delivered.
I will be keeping an eye on this thread hoping someone has a good idéa.

You just can turn off sms delivery report without hesitating. If the sms can't be delivered you'll get notification. If there's a silence than it's been delivered. Something like this...

not as simple as that, , , say i send you a txt, and your phone is turned off, , i wont get a failure, because it HAS been delivered to your service center, but you haven't yet received it, , , so relying on NOT getting a failure to tell you its been delivered is useless.
To answer original old question a perfect & very configurable software exists for WM & is called SMS reports eraser.
automatically moves reports so you just get the notification icon & sound if wanted, pretty much blackberry style.
Works perfect & you still have reports for future reference ...
