any good freeware puzzles and brain games - P3600 General

just wondering if there are any good ones out there?
for train journeys and such like i used to love Boxworld for puzzling, but after downloading & installing loads of tosh, i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?
preferably games and puzzzles involving problem solving and thought (maybe brain training types?), rather than anything involving fast actions with the trinity's rather awkward button layout
thanks
dom

It's not free, but SPB Brain Evolution is really good.
You can trial it.

Games

I have an XDA Exec but quite a lot of my old games dont work with wm5. I was wondering what good games people use with this setup. Something to really show it off would be nice, pity Rayman doesnt work because it was nice to show off the gfx. Anyway, here is what I use:
Virtual Pool Mobile (A pool game!)
Bejeweled 2 (Puzzle game - aim to make rows of 3 same coloured jewels)
Microsoft Entertainment PocketPak (collection of small addictive puzzle games)
It would be nice to see what everyone else is playing on their Universals...

As far as Rayman-type games are concerned, there are some new platform games that DO run on the Universal; for example, Gold Miner Joe and OpenJazz. You may want to check out my blog - on it, I've elaborated on all the new titles.
Sorry for going a little off topic.
I have AoE and used to play it on my old Ipaq H5550, i'm sure I saw it listed as WM5 compatible. But i've yet to finnish a game witout the my Universal locking up. Anyone else had any luck with this game :?:
Back on topic.
Apart from Bubble Breaker and Solitaire, I have the i-mate versions of Pool and Backgammon installed, both work great in single player mode.
Never tried the multiplayer option.

AoE requires quite a large amount of memory available before starting, and then during play, memory seems to be taken up by continual playing. Its locked on me too - but on the times when it hasnt and I have successfully exited AoE my available memory is greatly reduced, resulting in a soft reset to get it all back.
Cant remember if there is an autosave option - but would be invaluable if there was.
Matt
Thanks for the info Matt.
I did a soft reset before playing today.
It didn't lock up and I was killed pretty quickly, so all is back to normal

Looking for a launcher of sorts...

Hi yall, been surfing these forms for a little while and have gotten lots of helpful adivce.
Anyway, I have a dumb question; is there some sort of launcher or UI for the PPC that is simular to the PSP's UI? I want something that's simple like the PSP's UI, which I could use with one hand when I'm driving or just don't feel like pulling out my stylis. Something that you can just launch and have it run in the foreground most of the time yet when I want to surf or something I can just minimize it.
So is there anything like this out there, or am I just going to have to learn to write in some random PPC lingo.
Edit: I've noticed that those UMPC things (Origami Project) have a launcher thing as well. Just FYI.
WM5NewMenu - with this program you can make menu with subcategories and bind it to one of the softkey's so you can launch it using softkaye and then navigate with pad.
it's free

Why not use Spb's Pocket Plus or SBSH's iLauncher and use large icons?

WM5NewMenu isn't exactly what I wanted, (something that basically takes over for the today screen in a PSP like UI) but it should do just fine. Thanks.

Pocket Calculus for windows mobile ?

Hi guys, i want to ask if there's anyone have pocket calculus software or any Pocket software for school for windows mobile. My phone is htc 8525 wm6. thank you very muchh.
Check these out!
There are some great applications out there that should fit your calculus solving needs.
Check out Virtual TI Pocket Emulator version 2.4B. I use it for Calculus and physics all the time and it's almost rock solid. Sometimes when punching in numbers, it hangs but otherwise it emulates my TI-89 extremely well. The only things that might be a bit difficult to find are the ROMs, but you can dump one from your own calculator if you have the data cable.
1-Calc lite is decent as well, but is lacking in some of the advanced features that you might like such as graphing and derivatives.
Let us know here how well those work for you
The BEST solution for calculas, graphing or anything similar is Spacetime... although it isnt free... but google it n check it out.
thank you very much guys

So what Games Work on WM Side?

OK, I know there was a thread that covered games before, but it focused on the Vista side. Though there were some posts about games on the WM side, it was limited.
I've been able to figure out that most applications work (though some REALLY SLOWLY like Touch Commander), but games? This is a completely different issue. I spend a lot of time in airports and would really like my shift to be able to play some of the games my phone (O2 Zinc) does.
Of course we have some problems here - no dedicated soft buttons or application buttons like on a phone (at least none without the Keyboard, and I don't even know if there are "keyboard" ones less the arrors and "Sym"/"OK" keys). Also there is RAM issues, but that should not stop all games. Should it?
So, the question stands - What games do and don't work. So far I know what doesn't:
My Little Tank (Astraware)
Revival (HeroCraft)
Gone in 60 Seconds (HeroCraft)
Of course I do not really why the above don't walk but it probably has something to do with the screen. It does not seem to be RAM as there is at least 15-18MB (pending on my application installation) of free RAM for programs.
Any way - thougts and opinions
Didn't find lots of games working.
Orion doesn't work, and machine at war has some funky touchscreen input.
I was sad finding The Quest from Redshift not working.
Grand Prix Legends runs like a dream.
Especially with the presevation society installer which includes all the latest patches.
I am happily watching my saved replays and they look amazing.
Edit - oh drat, I'm referring to vista side in a WM topic!
My granny says 'oh drat'

Some very noob questions here

Hello all,
I have receintly upgraded to an Xperia X1 on Vodafone UK, coming from a very old out of date phone, it is quite a leap, though i am use to Windows mobile.
I have been reading some of the topics here and have come across some questions, which i hope some kind sole does not mind answering for me.
1) A lot of talk is about flashing ROMS, i assume this is some kind of upgrade to the firmware or OS. Would somebody mind just explaining what it is and why its of benifit.
2)Another thing that has generated a lot of talk is hard SPL, again what is this?
3) I am a keen gamer and want to get some good games up and running on my phone. Though a lot of what i try does not work, i have seen suggestion on other forums that a bit of software can help a lot of compatible games run. Does anybody know what it is i may require? I have seen a video on youtube of somebody running some FPS games is this fake or is it possible?
4) As a new Xperia owner i would also like some suggestions of anything that people think to be essential, to get the best out of my phone. Be these software, firmware upgrades ect. I have installed Batti and Xperia Tweak both of which have been extremely usefull.
Cheers in advance for any help.
1) Have you ever formatted your PC because it's full of junk and it's the only way to remove the crap and start a fresh? Bit like that with some ROM's. Others start from nothing and install programs for you. I find it best to use a clean ROM (Jacks) then install what I want on top.
2) Hard_SPL allows you to flash a new ROM onto the device.
3) FPS is possible but remember it is a phone at the end of the day. Alot of games run fine and the rest just need the VGA fix as it's a different resolution.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the swift and helpfull responce.
So if i was to flash a new rom would it speed up my phone any or stop/reduce all the random errors i get?
I have heard that i may need to install .net framework 3.5 onto my phone to get some of the games working. How easy and safe is this to do? I assume it is just like adding anyother software to my phone.
Yes I would (and have) installed 3.5 framework. It is easy to install and maintain as it's just a cab installer.
I use the Jacks 1.4 Lite ROM. It's much quicker than stock and is as stable as you make it really. I highly reccomend at least reading up about it.

Well so far I've installed SPB Backup, which does pretty much what it says on the tin. Useful if you plan on doing any modding, I guess. I also stuck SPB time on there coz I needed a decent stopwatch. There's a neat little program called Touch Response that basically makes the phone vibrate slightly when you press the touchscreen. The strength of the vibrate can be configured. It's not essential but it gives a nice physical feedback which touch screens often lack. Flash 3.1 is available for download and works with the Opera 9.5 browser. Oh yeah, coreplayer's a good one too. I can't remember where I got all of these but there should be some links on here. You could also try www.xperia-x1.com or www.inexperia.com or www.modaco.com
My current software setup includes:
Resco Explorer - Nice touch-friendly file explorer with many options
Mini Stumbler - Helps you find wifi hotspots
Call Firewall - Nice people ditcher
Coreplayer - for playing videos with assorted codecs
G-Alarm - Cool alarm replacement, you have to solve a puzzle before being able to snooze it
Missed call reminder - beep reminder for missed calls
Newsbreak - RSS reader
Pocket Tunes - iTunes playlist sync for winmo
Resco Audio Recorder - lets you record voice notes and your own phone conversations
Spb Wireless Monitor - lets you run reports on internet usage
Stopwatch - standard stop watch
hTorch - turns your camera flash into a flashlight
This is why i sold my iphone to come back to windows mobile, it's sooo much flexible, I missed being able to mod my phone.
Thanks once again for the great responces and help, they have been of great use i will be getting a good 80% of what has been suggested, it sounds right up my street.
