other problems with the mogul - Mogul, XV6800 General

1 - once i create a catergory in contacts or mistype one. how do you edit or delete it?
2 - when i open contacts. i want to see the category of what i used last or what i use most not every f'n contact.
3 - if i switch to landscape mode when the device is closed if i open and close it goes back to portrait mode.
how do i get these to be the way i want and stay that way?

Let's just get something straight, here.
These aren't problems with the mogul, this is more like a "wish list" that you personally have for Windows Mobile in general.
I see you're new to the board, so I'm going to give you a little bit of advice.
Slow down if you want people to answer your questions.
We're here to help, but don't abuse this resource by starting new threads for every whim you have- it ruins the board and drives away the helpful people who get tired of answering the silly little things that don't even belong in the topic in the first place (Most of your posts are not even Titan-specific! The general boards might already have your answers, this is the Titan area).
As long as I'm here, I'll respond to what you asked.
1) Not sure. I never used the categories on the phone, but I'm fairly certain the best way to manage that is on Outlook rather than the device.
2)Use call history instead of contacts. I only press contacts when I'm looking up an obscure number... everyone else is in call history!
Or, use a third party contacts application.
3)You can map the screen rotate to a button or write a Mortscript to keep it at the angle. There is also a reg key somewhere to totally disable the switch under the keyboard that detects whether this is open or not. I don't know it off the top of my head, but personally, I rather have it on.

i'm trying to do the same thing

The only way to get your contacts to open the way you want is to purchase a program called Agenda One. It will save the last category view you chose and the next time you open your contacts it will still be selected. Also like Dishe said, perhaps you need to tone down your post a little if you want help.

Disabling 8125 Camera

I have already seen a previous threads on disabling the camera on an 8125, but...
My company just starting enforcing a no camera phone policy, and I would like to find a way to not only map the key differently, but have the screen say "CAMERA DISABLED" when the camera button is pressed. This would satisfy the entrance receptionist. I am new to this list, and this is my first PPC phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
why not map the camera key to none? go to start, settings, buttons

maybe i should have said a new appreciation.. some people think we get dumb questions over here from n00bs.. but 90% of the posters on the cingulars boards dont have a clue, drives me nuts.. anyway now that i am done hijacking this thread..
Is the solution to mapping the key to none a good solution for you excesszone or do you need something different?
It'd be very easy to knock together an app to do this, although as my brethren suggest, perhaps just prepare a bitmap with said legend, and then map that to the camera key. Pressing the key would launch the bitmap with the "camera ist kaputt" image etc.
But an exe could be prepared to do the same.

First of all, Thanks for your assistance...
1)I have already remapped the camera button to <NONE>, but I still would like the screen to say "CAMERA DISABLED" upon pressing the camera button.
2)Actually, I honestly would like the camera software to be truly disabled or removed, and usable only if the actual camera software (or enabling program, or app, or whatever) is reloaded. This way if any company's security dept. really went looking for the camera application they still would not be able to launch it. I really do want to do the honest thing here since I ultimately want to comply with the no camera policy. I still need to visit secure facilities.
...but, I do not want to be greedy, so solution 1) above will suffice. Is it possible to drag the Camera app Icon into another folder, so it is out of sight?
I inadvertantly replied previously to "shogunmark" with a personal response, which mentioned that as a mechanical engineer of 25 yrs, (with early 80 char punch card fortran coding experience), I run for the hills when it comes to writing lines of code...so forgive me if I may require from time to time, a little "hand holding" (skip the h_mo phobe jokes!!! ). Thanks again.

There are posts on disabling the camera like this already I think.
Look up user Chatty's posts from memory - he eventually physically removed the cam, but I think you can try just overwritting the camera.exe with a dummy one. Then delete the dummy to re-enable the camera. Might work, might not!
Certainly you can move the camera shortcut elsewhere, and change the icon and call it Cat_Pr0n or something so people don't get suspicious.

[email protected] no h_mo jokes.. there goes my reply.. lol .. how about this joke instead.. you have had almost as many years exprience as a mechanical engineer as i have been alive, welcome to the boards grandpa!
Now down to business.
you could go to:
\Windows folder and delete camera.exe
\Windows\Start Menu and delete camera.lnk (only if camera is in the start menu)
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete camera.lnk
This will ensure it wont come up. Camera.exe from the windows folder may be difficult to delete, however if you delete the lnk's it will keep it from being easily accessible and they would really have to dig to get the camera app up. Also as an alternative you might want to look around on the other boards and see if anyone has an 8100 they are willing to trade for your 8125, its the same phone just minus the camera!
I think you can have option (2). Just go to \Window, copy the camera.exe to somewhere else, rename it to (say) `thisIsNotCamera.exe` and have it copied into \Windows. Make an exe that display `Camera Disabled` and rename it to camera.exe and copied that into \Windows. You can keep all your links alive, if the security wanted to check, they will just see `Camera Disabled`, unless they are going into \Windows and execute each and every of your file. When you want to use camera, just find this secret file of yours.
As for the exe that display `camera disabled`, I bet anyone can write a Hello World for pocket pc is able to write one for you.

You guys are lifesavers. An old guy like me (as per shogunmark) needs help from time to time. My walker kind of slows me down!!!
My office (IT dept) will accept that my camera is disabled if the sceen says so after pushing the button, so I am electing OPTION 1 (mentioned in previous posts). It sounds like it could be handled with an app or an exe, and beyond. But what is the simplest way of achieving this?
Also, can I ask someone to write this and step me through its creation and install. I tried moving the Camera Icon / program into another folder and had no success. I am still a bit gun shy hacking into my 8125. Back in my day...

The easiest way is to create a text file called camera.txt rename it to camera.exe and place it in the \windows folder overwriting the camera.exe. (with total commander or gsfinder) Now when you click camera button an error message will pop up - will that suffice? You can do the same with clear storage - will stop one of shogunmarks many kids reseting your device.
Where is a mod when you need one?
Attached a simple hello world application to display the message "The camera function has been disabled permanently for security reasons.". Useful if you want to by pass security check to. . . let them check your phone.

Too many questions...

...so i put them all in one thread. .
Hello everyone.
Just got a TyTn. Quite a change from my old K800, but im sure i'll adjust.
Ive been reading around here for a few weeks now in antisipation of my TyTn arriving. So know a few things already, like the highly rated 'batti' battery app.
I have a few questions about it though that i cant find definate answers on:
- Is it possible to have custom ringtones for each contact?
- How do i close programs? As at the moment they just seem to minimise, and the only way i can find to actually close them is through the memory app in settings.
- How do i install the today screen app called 'Launcher' its not a cab file like the rest of the programs ive installed.
- Is there a today screen plugin i can use to lock the phone when i press it?
- Some of my contacts are listed as 'elliot, fred' rarther than 'fred elliot'. How do i fix that?
- Is it possible to have full screen contact images? Ive got contact images setup for a few of my contacts, but they only ever show up as a tiny icon when opening a txt (havnt tryed incoming calls yet), is there a way to make it so that when i get a txt i get the picture instead of/extra to the standard popup?
- Emoticons. How/can i put them in txt messages? (actually view them, not the pure text equilivent.).
Thanks in advance all.
Any help would be much appricated. .

Ok I tried to help, but geez dude. I think this forum may be a little advanced for you. There are plenty of other websites and forums that can help you with these questions. Before you post any more questions:
1. Read The Windows Mobile Manual
2. Learn how to use the search function
3. Spend a little more time reading
4. Read a little more.
5. Come back and post questions when you ACTUALLY have a phone. THis way you can try to figure things out on the phone before you start asking questions.
Good Luck!

Is there way to add a sound to the opening of the keyboard?

Well the topic says it all.
I want to add a sound to the opening and/or closing of the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Any hacks for this? I suppose that the opening of the keyboard calls some kind of an event (since sliding it open changes the screen orientation) So can this same event call be used to assign a sound as well?
I also want to kno this and was going to ask right before I came 2 see this link...so please answer!
There are some really talented people here. I would have thought someone would have done this by now. But I assume, from lack of info, that this hasn't been considered before?
Would someone, who has the skill set to do this, consider looking into it and seeing if it is possible?
Thanks a million!!
Have a good one
Try this thread.....
Cheers!
That thread refers to the Herald, or Tmobile Wing. I found this thread and thats all I've been able to find for the Wizard or Tmobile MDA.
There may be a registry key that needs to be modified/added after installing the HTC Sliding Sounds application to make it 'active' for the Wizard.
Any ideas?
Im trying to figure it out too.. I dunno how to get it to initiate...
Need someone with the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to help
Under HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound there are 2 keys 'ActiveSlidingSound' and 'SlidingSoundEffect', these are for setting which sound of the 3 available to use, I'm assuming.
Anyone out there know someone with a Herald or T-Mobile Wing that is willing to share what they have in this folder in their registry?? Maybe there's and EnableSound key or something to that effect that us Wizard users can add and we'll have a happy day!

I just checked mine and under SlidingSound, there are 3 folders... 0, 1, and 2. Each folder has 3 keys... Default, in, and out. "Default" is the name for the sounds (ex: Wind Chimes, Piano, and Xylophone), "in" is the location of the file used for when the keyboard slides in (ex: Slider0_in.wav), and the same applies to "out" for when the keyboard slides out (ex: Slider0_out.wav).
Also inside the SlidingSound folder are 2 more keys... ActiveSlidingSound and SlidingSoundEffect. ActiveSlidingSound refers to which sliding sound you want to use... so in this case it would be one of the 3 folders mentioned above (0,1, or 2). SlidingSoundEffect refers to whether or not you want the sliding sound on. (0 = off, 1 = on).
Hope this helps!
I installed the software that was made by JUVS....it does not work on my MDA.
Any other ideas? I had tried searching before I made this thread initially, and i had not seen the 2 that are discussed here. I apologize for having made a 3rd one.
Back on topic, I certainly hope this can be made to work. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the info so far.
Later
this is a really cool idea, i would also like to know how to do it...

Thanks so much! This does help!
Unfortunately, I have the same keys on my MDA after installing the application for the SlidingSounds and it doesn't make sounds when I open the keyboard physically. I'm suspecting that the MDA is missing something, possibly a hardware switch (don't think so, though, cause it has to detect when the keyboard opens for landscape mode).
My guess is that this will not work on the MDA
Umfortunately I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking that the easiest way to get somethig like this to work would be to link the sound to play with the screen rotation instead of trying to get it to work when the keyboard is slid out which obviously isn't working anyway. It would play the sound if you rotated your screen manually, but I can't see why that would be a big deal. Maybe someone with a little programming knowledge could get this to work though.
I wanna keep this thread alive. SlidingSounds is something i wanna see work for wizards. It'll be cool if someone could craft a workaround or a new prog altogether.
Opening the keyboard is an event, shouldn't be hard to craft something to have it make a sound.
Any updates on this? I downloaded the app and it hasn't done anything, especially when messing with the registry. Thanks.
I've been working on tis as well but it seems that there is no way to adjust the registry to get it to work. I believe a app is gonna have to get the wizard to have this feature.
This would be so cool.. Alot of people have 'flip' style phones, and when they open them, they have some funny sounds. Would be great to have on the Wizard!
Anybody figured this out yet? I'm really sure it can be done.
im all about hacks for the wizard, but...
im assuming that you saw a wing and are trying to duplicate it...
WHY would you want it to do this?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
same question for the menu pop sound?
those are the most annoying things i've seen on phone... well except for the default startup and shutdown sounds on all retail phones... when you turn off your phone, isnt because you're somewhere that you should be sure it wont be ringing/vibrating?
but on the other hand i still can't understand why people like to have the keys beep on their regular cell phones when they are txting...
sorry for the rant... i just don't get it

Maybe because we love the bells and whistles a gadget can make, it's all about your custom love that you want to have, not just everyone's universal preference. Some of us love to customize our phones to suit our personality, not just YOURS. Maybe these sounds grab attention of chicks, maybe this wallpaper makes us look cool in the sight of geeks. It's all personal prereference.
That's why I want keyboard Sliding Sounds to work. It's just one more thing that will grab the attention of people to see that, yes, I don't need a new phone every six months or so. I can make a new one using an old one by utilizing hacks.

SlideActions: Assign actions to sliding events of Windows Mobile phones

I bought my Touch Dual sliding phone for the express purpose of using the sliding open and closed as the physical interface for answering/unlocking then hanging up/locking my phone. But to my surprise the Touch Dual cannot hang-up and/or lock on slide close (although it does answer/unlock on slide open).
So I've written an application to do the job.
The latest version now includes friendly configuration and integration with third party applications such as S2U2.
SlideActions and notes (this is a link to my server, so it always has the latest version).
Open source
Because I don't have the time and I've been asked for new features, and there's been volunteered help I've provided access to SlideAction's SVN repository.
I almost didn't because I never bothered to comment code I didn't expect others to see, but, well, I'm not so precious.
Here's the repository's URL::http://opensource.puna.net.nz/svn/slideactions. Accessible both by web browser and SVN client such as TortoiseSVN.
Anyone wanting to contribute can create a branch (such as opensource.puna.net.nz/svn/slideactions/branchs/new_branch) and I'll merge working features into the main branch.

And it wasn't hard at all. Go to the link in the first post to find the CAB file.
I should mention - although this CAB file does put a startup shortcut in place (so the application will start with the phone in future) it doesn't currently start the application to begin with - you'll have to either start it yourself (llook for the application in your Program folder) the first time or restart your phone for it to happen automatically.
Nice work Ferrex..!

I haven't tried to make it configureable in any way yet (Update:It is now). So far I've just been happy to figure out how to make it do what I need on my phone.
Ideally it ought be configureable but I don't think I'm going to have the time to do that with a busy work schedule for a while.
I find working on this stuff immensely time consuming because I'm on the wrong side of a big learning curve right now - and at times frustrating (I'm stunned at how much the VSS Deployment Project methodolgy sucks).
Thanks for this, simply fantastic. Was silently hoping that htc would release a rom upgrade that closed the action screen when the keypad slides back down. Looks like you've beaten the big H to it.
Nice work, i tried it but it kept opening the sms/mms app any time i slide it open. But it's almost perfect

That's deliberate (if you have unread messages) - I haven't accentuated the feature but the app checks if there's any unread SMS messages when you open the slide and if so opens the SMS app.
It's one of the things which ought be configureable but I haven't had time to write configuration options yet. For the moment I'm writing the application to suite my needs - and I prefer to go straight to unread txts if I haven't noticed them yet when I open my phone.
If it's doing it when you haven't unread messages it's a bug - but not with this app because that's a mistake it pretty much can't make itself, however another app interacting with SMS might not be updating the notifications correctly and thus throw my app off. I could make HTCDTExtend more robust by taking a more direct route to SMS info but I'm not going to because using WM6 notifications is the correct way to do it. Hopefully your experience is as designed and not some bug.
if i may, maybe you could just recompile an exe for those of us that want it to function without the locking feature either by just commenting out the sendkey(133) or using a null in the locking subfunction

I've made the application read settings from the registry so it can be configured. In time I'll put a graphical interface on it but for now...
By default the application Hangs Up and Locks on slide close, and on slide open, if there are any unread SMS messages opens the SMS application.
But you can change that if you wish by editing (you'll have to begin by creating them, they aren't created by the application currently [Update:These keys are created by the application now]) these registry settings:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ionwerks\HTCDTExtend DWORD:HangUp
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ionwerks\HTCDTExtend DWORD:Lock
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ionwerks\HTCDTExtend DWORD:CheckSMS
0 = Off, 1 = On for each setting.

Great work again...so no locking right now? But the unread sms work again right?
d.
thanks a lot, ferrex! it is a GREAT app!
meanwhile, really doubt why HTC is so stupid to miss the slide-close-to-hangup functionality that is available on every slide-out phone.

I hate the HD too!!! (Never thought I'd say that)

I miss my Trinity.
Been using HTC since they weren't branding themselves. My first phone was the Space Needle (ATT Pocket PC). I loved it. Did so much with it. Later flashed it, was very nice.
Then I moved on to the I-Mate Jam. Smaller, sleeker, also fun.
Then I got the Trinity P3600. This is absolutely the best phone there is in my opinion. It's small, light, has GPS, a decent camera, video call, mini SD slot.
I got more from my P3600 and a 2gb card than the HD has given me.
Yes, the HD has more memory, huge screen, better camera (although annoying, and who REALLY uses the camera on their phone for 'real' pictures), ..... wait, what more? For me, nothing.
I miss my d-pad. Try using the HD to go to Call History and view the contact details of the third caller down. You can't! No Way to move down. If you touch the contact, it calls him!!
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. The only way is 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking'.
You've heard of "tennis elbow", now there's "flick thumb". What a pain!
And the soft touch buttons. USELESS!!!! First of all, forget the third one, the 'back arrow'. Does anyone use it? I don't. USELESS.
Now, try answering a call while the HD it in it's protective sleeve. While you're trying to slide the damn thing out, you almost inevidibly "answer" or "ignore" by accidentally pressing one of the soft buttons!! USELESS!
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.
..and and and......
I can go on, but this phone is hard to handle, very "touchy" and just a general PAIN IN THE A$$ to use, not to mention expensive as H3LL!!!
Glad I never sold my P3600. Will be going back to my old tried and true friend today. I flashed my Trinity to WM6.1, and it's GREAT!!!
Hope I can find a sucker to buy the HD before everyone starts realizing it sucks.
Thanks for listening!

haha, u made me laugh
well, firstly, were u blind when u were buying HD? I always check how device looks first, and you? Didn't u see it doesn't has a Dpad?
secondly, all your other problems are that you don't know what's a LOCK DEVICE function is...
in a conclusion, learn how to lock the device first, then you can talk about it
I miss my Trinity.
You still have it, so how can you miss it??
I miss my d-pad. Try using the HD to go to Call History and view the contact details of the third caller down. You can't! No Way to move down. If you touch the contact, it calls him!!
Working fine here.....
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. The only way is 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking' 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking'.
You've heard of "tennis elbow", now there's "flick thumb". What a pain!
Don´t quite understand the problem.....
And the soft touch buttons. USELESS!!!! First of all, forget the third one, the 'back arrow'. Does anyone use it? I don't. USELESS.
Use AEButton Plus and assign any functions you like....
Now, try answering a call while the HD it in it's protective sleeve. While you're trying to slide the damn thing out, you almost inevidibly "answer" or "ignore" by accidentally pressing one of the soft buttons!! USELESS!
Agreed.....that´s why I never used the pouch...
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.
Can´t duplicate....
The Bug is not the device but rather the User...in this case
I was very concerned when I saw this thread as I will finally get my HD tomorrow. All the complaints made seem to be a user problem, I was able to do everything he couldn't do on my Diamond just using the screen, so I assume that that would be exactly the same as the HD.
I think everyone on these forums understands that most WM phones aren't the best out of the box but with tweaking the phones are made into great devices that are really interesting and are never boring because you can change so much.
If you want a device that just works with minimal functions so you don't get upset or have brain overload, the iphone is a great peace of hardware but WM has so much more to offer if you are willing to tweak and play around abit.
I think instead of posting "I hate the HD", it would be more appropriate to post.... "I need some help with some functions" and with the wealth of knowledge here you will get some answers very quick and not give people like me heart attacks reading your misleading posts.

i wouldnt say iphone was a great piece of hardware, but it is miles better for usability...
my hd is a hardware investment till the chaps on this forum make it awesome
All the other points has been covered... So:
I miss my d-pad. Try using the HD to go to Call History and view the contact details of the third caller down. You can't! No Way to move down. If you touch the contact, it calls him!!
-> Flick
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. You've heard of "tennis elbow", now there's "flick thumb". What a pain!
-> Basically, i never used the contacts list . Always use the dial key, bring up the keypad, and use smart dialing - much much faster. and yes, its 1 hand operation. You probably not aware of this obvious function? E.g. if you want to call John, type in your keypad 5606 . In the contacts list, There's a alphabet along the screen... touch letter M and it brings u to the M part of your contacts list... i dont think any of us have less than 100 contacts in our phone .
All these are purely your problem for not learning how to use it. not the phone's problem.
The Touch HD surely has flaws, like any other phone, but all of your problems can be avoid by learning how to use it.
Hey, for 100 usd I will be the sucker who buys it..
I could go line by line and combat everything this member says is "wrong" with the HD but I wont. All i can say is i am just not hving the problems he describes None of them with maybe the exception of I simply just dont use the camera. I use my real camera for pic taking

I Love this one: "I DON'T WANT TO!!" - I have a picture in my head of an angry little man dancing around a fire
Yes, I liked my PALM III very much but i came over it. Yes I understand "I DON'T WANT TO!!"
Not once you had a good point. Not once! You should have found one by accident.
The one thing I miss is the roller-wheel of my hermes. But it sounds like I could remap the volume rocker to do something similar, anyone tried this?
I've never used a full touch screen phone before, so like a cautious person I went in to the Orange shop and asked for a demo, which they were happy to give, and realised it wasn't all that daunting. A number of the annoyances with it so far are thanks to the not-so-touch-friendly Winmo 6.1, when someone cracks Android for this thing (apparently the Touch HD will be the new T-Mobile G2 according to the rumour mill) I'll be more than happy to try it out, plus the modding community will fix it up with their godlike skills, I'm just glad I found these forums!
Objective view, please...
I think most people here did not get the points raised here or have not been objective in their response (it is obvious they are product of their ne gadget); the phone as Windows Mobile is not per se user-friendly. The interface incorporated by HTC is not perfect. The hardware is therefore inadequate since it cannot be complemented by a good piece of software .
HTC has effectively delivered this phone in the same manner as it has done with other previouus devices (albeit a modified soft keyboard) with keypad. Even the TF3D for a WVGA screen, there is not difference to VGA devices, only larger icon and the Stock tab!
Excessive tweaking of the device is not always a good solution as it impacts other areas of the device.
Therefore stating all this is down to user is a best an over statement.
With all this feedback I wonder how HTC development team will feel! I for one do not complaint for the issues raised but admit they are serious problem. I can recall not being able to open the battery cover and having to refer to the manual, still it will not open. Only after several attempts the process became easier.
The iPhone is not always a valid alterative either, since many people wish to have applications that are not designed for this platform, such as any device car navigation program. This is particularly true in this case, as the poster clearly stated his background!
Personally, I must say my main decision for purchasing the BlackStone was merely for the screen size, having used the Universal for over year and then going down to Polaris (screen size wise), and with no sign of the Omni, I was “forced” again to a half solution. Any other aspect of the device was secondary in importance…
Ha, ha, ha...
Ha, ha, ha... thanx for the laugh, angry man
All new gadgets takes some getting use to... The HD i no exeption, especially when you cant use the software your used to because of the screen.
I love my HD though..
What a sound response carla!

I've been quite concerned about HD since I ordered it, and then once I got it (overpriced on HTC distribution orders to retail stores), etc. And finally with many "small" issues I wrote in other threads.
So I fully understand the feelings of angry users.
Has anybody noticed we, (concernerd users) are greatly defined by our previous machine?
It has come to my attention through this and other forums, that ex-TRINITY users are prone to be "in love" with it and not very pleased with HD.
I think this is really somthing to be investigated.
Finally, toying around in a phone store with the machine (if you have had the chance) is not enough to put all the blame in the "unconscious" buyer, it's simply not fair in todays e-shopping.
HTC did a very poor job putting the HD in the market for Christmas time, hope it will get fixed over the time, but i'm still very upset with HTC way of launching new devices.
I won't address all the issues, because other people already have, and because it really just sounds like the problem is more with what YOU like and don't like - and not with the phone. Either you are used to a certain way and you don't really want to change or you are not aware of how you can do things differently to better use the phone. In any case, I do respect your opinion and you have every right to express those thoughts here. Okay, so here are a couple of thoughts from my side.

The camera is descent - not excellent - but descent. The lack of flash is a known downfall. However, keep in mind that no phone out there will replace the quality of an actual camera. The camera feature on the phone is an extra commodity for those moments when you don't want to take a real camera with you or for those good times, when you are hanging out with friends and you don't need to shoot the greatest quality pictures. No camera phone is meant to be used as your main camera for vacation shots etc.

Maybe you don't understand how this feature works. On my HD, if I tap once on a number in the call history list, it DOES NOT call right away, but instead it brings up the call history for that caller alone. Then:
If the caller is in my contacts list, I see the name at the top and possibly a picture (if I added one). Below this, it shows me the call history.
If I tap on the name/picture, it pulls up a list of numbers and email addresses for that contact. If I once again tap on the name/picture, it brings me to that listing so I can edit the contact's information. I can always cancel by pressing menu at the bottom.
If I tap on a given missed call itself, it will call that number. The nice thing is that if that person called me once from their home and another time from their mobile, I can see that here and I can choose which number to call back.
If the caller is NOT in my contacts list, then I simply see "unknown" at the top and then the number that called below that (provided that person does not have their number blocked from callerID). If I tap on the number, it will call that person. If I tap on "unknown", I will eventually end up on my contacts list, where I can assign that number to a contact or I can create a new contact with that number.
I do have to admit, that it has happened a few times, that a contact calls me and in the call history list, I only see the number as if it were an unknown person. In that case, I have assigned that number to the contact and it overrides the number I already had. I don't know why that is. Maybe because some numbers I have entered as 0177-555-5555 and others as +491775555555 (in Germany).
Anyone know if that makes a difference? It seems that sometimes it does and other times it doesn't.
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. Huh?? Flicking is A LOT faster than pressing a D-pad arrow 80 times to get to your contact. You could also press the M or N on the alphabest list on the right. That way, you'll either see the beginning of the M's or the end of the M's and you can flick from there. Seriously - flicking goes really fast. And typing the first two letters into the name box is NOT that bad. You see, the possibilities here are endless!
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.

A simple press of the power button locks your phone - and guess what..... no more blip-blip-blip-blip-blip.
Now simply press the power button again and you can blip-blip-blip all you want.
So, there now - you must certainly LOVE your HD now, right?
