Since I'm not a data user, I would like to rely on Wi-Fi to connect every morning and download data, sync and all the stuff while I'm sleeping.
I'd need an app that opens Wi-Fi and closes it after a certain time. Meanwhile, my today plug-ins would get the news and weather (need something that syncs only once a day at x:xx). Then if possible it could sync with my laptop (if I leave it open) also via Wi-Fi.
Is this all possible?
Try this, use to check e-mail accounts also I use HTC home weather and that updates with the open wifi connection, haven't tried spb insight updating might experiment to see if wifi connection can stay open longer.

Hey,
I have a seemingly simple problem. I use POP email and I want to check for emails regularly but at home and work I can stay connected to a WiFi network.
I know with Skype I can set the program to use WiFi if available else 3G. Does anyone know if this can be done at a system level so for instance that email and any other apps needing a connection will follow this protocol, please?
Thanks.
Since i do not want to create a new thread (for 2 posts maximum) i will ask here: my phone shows that is connected with the wi-fi (usr9108 router--> access point) BUT when i am trying to sign in to msn, skype open a page in I.E nothing happens, it's like i am not connected to the net.

Most applications will use whatever connection is already on. In your case if you are connected via WiFi then your email will use that connection, if not then it will try to connect by the default GPRS/3G connection setting. I do this all the time.
Okay, yeah sorry.
To clarify I think what I really want is to let the device go into sleep mode and attempt to create a WiFi connection before it attempts to create a 3G data connection.
Other than that, purchasing a cradle and leaving the device in alert mode would be the way forward would it?
Is there a way for WiFi to remain on even if the device is in Sleep mode?
Thanks again.

Oh I see you what you mean. Why not try this schedule an event to wake the device and so long as it was connected to a wireless AP when it went to sleep it will try to reconnect when it wakes then schedule another event after a suitable pause to allow it to find and connect to AP to sync email.
Alternatively try SKSchema or MortScript which are both macro tools to do the above.
Cheers Jazza. Not sure how to 'schedule' an event but I'll do some research into 'SKSchema or MortScript' to see how I can use them.
Thanks for your help.
Hi, I have a very annoying problem with IPAQ 111 WM6.
I setup wi-fi and bluetooth (connect to my cellphone using tethering).
Now, I just turn on wi-fi and leave bluetooth off. I can surf internet, even wondows live site.
I pressed function key to start messaging, I can check my emails in Gmail and yahoo. But once checking windows live email (manfully click send/receive), it did not use current wi-fi, instead it tried to dial my bluetooth modem. Since bluetooth is disabled, it can not connect of cause. But it kept on trying and no way to stop it! ? No, there is a brutal way - soft reset.
I searched the forum and internet but could not find a clue. I suspect ce-star, but it turned out no the issue (I uninstalled it and problem still there).
Anyone experienced similar problem?
Thanks
I have exactly the same problem with this **** live as i'm using EDGE at work and Wi-Fi at home, and when I turn off EDGE leave Wi-Fi to check my Live mail the Live tries to establish EDGE connection :/
I guess this way will work for ya:
1) turn off Bluetooth and WiFi
2) close (terminate) "Messaging"
3) start WiFi and wait when it connects
4) go to Start->Programs->Microsoft Live and tap on Synchronization
I guess you can always use step 4 as regular mail synchronization, DO NOT USE Messaging to synchronize
if your situation persists, you'd better delete your current Live account and re-create it at step 4, so that Live will be setup during WiFi connection only
Let me know if this helps, plz
Thanks but, no luck
Thanks for your information, I followed your steps but no luck.
I guess it is stupid windows live problem. At least it should stop after a few tries. It just keep on trying and used all the resource and I have to soft reset it.
I am so sick of it so I removed windows live messaging totally, hopefully I will not use hotmail too much.
Regards,
Shiping

Howdy wise men and women,
Is there any way to prevent the phone from connecting to my service providers data.
I have turned off auto update on weather and email. However, when I wake up in the morning, I look at my phone and the data has been connected for the entire night. I dont know what its connecting to. Maybe facebook updates via the 'people' tab? I do have that synced up....? I cant seem to find any settings there to prevent it from updating automatically....
I have the data disconnect quicklink installed, but that can only be used once I notice it has automatically logged on.
Is there a way I can prevent to phone from logging on unless I actually click through to a function?
Many thanks
Tom
Try using Bandswitcher or other Auto dissconnet apps.
I am running the 1.66 rom, and when I turn off the data connection in 'Comm Manager', it will be activated again (most of the times within an hour).
I am NOT using Sense (but Titanium), and to be sure, I disabled all auto-updates (for mail, for weather, for stocks, for time sync, etc.) in Sense.
I really would like to know what is the reason that the data connection activates itself. I installed Dialup Enabled/Disabler, a small tool so I can see the active connections, but I only see listening connections on 127.0.0.1. So no info here.
Does anyone have a clue how I can track down which program activates the data connection each time?
P.S. I know that an idle data connection does not drain my battery, but I just dont want some program connecting to the internet without me knowing.
I have pushmail with gmail, weather check every 6 hours, facebook enabled but neither twitter nor rss feeds nor any other apps automatically connecting to internet.
Still sometimes I see that wifi is turned on automatically
This usually happens at night, when I disable the data connection using something like nodata.
weird...
