I have pushmail with gmail, weather check every 6 hours, facebook enabled but neither twitter nor rss feeds nor any other apps automatically connecting to internet.
Still sometimes I see that wifi is turned on automatically
This usually happens at night, when I disable the data connection using something like nodata.
weird...

Hello,
I've having problem where as I am unable to connect to T-Mobile GPRS/EDGE on my MDA. I thought it was caused by bad cell connection, but I tested this with my hx4700 and N90 and I always have good connection.
I did some investigation and noticed that the connection was made, but no data can be passed through. After several days of investigation, I can make an accurate assumption that it was the MESSAGING application that is causing it.
I had the Messaging application to check for mail every 15 minutes and it'll automatically do so without fail all day long. But the connection stays on and if I try to connect via Internet Explorer, Weather Panel update, NewsBreak RSS update, or any other IP-based application, nothing get transferred. Even when I disconnect the connection and reconnect.
THe only way to fix this is to SOFT RESET the device.
Anybody know why?
Is anyone not having this problem? I.e. you set Messaging app for auto-check every 15 minutes and your EDGE/GPRS connection ALWAYS work (except in no-cell- signal area), be it for PIE, RSS, SSH, Telnet, etc.
Since I'm not a data user, I would like to rely on Wi-Fi to connect every morning and download data, sync and all the stuff while I'm sleeping.
I'd need an app that opens Wi-Fi and closes it after a certain time. Meanwhile, my today plug-ins would get the news and weather (need something that syncs only once a day at x:xx). Then if possible it could sync with my laptop (if I leave it open) also via Wi-Fi.
Is this all possible?
Try this, use to check e-mail accounts also I use HTC home weather and that updates with the open wifi connection, haven't tried spb insight updating might experiment to see if wifi connection can stay open longer.

Is there way I can permanently turn off data so that programs like mail and weather do not automatically connect to it and turn it. I don't have a data plan so I don't want to be charged for it. The only reason i don't just delete the AT&T media net settings is because I need it when I want to use MMS.
Search on "NoData".
the problem with no data is that i cant reconnect to media net after i disable it. so im looking for an alternate solution
In that case as far as I can tell, you'll probably need to turn off the relevant settings for weather and mail, etc.
That's what I figured is the only solution, but sometimes the phone will just automatically connect to data so that there is the symbol on the top bar and when I go to the communications screen, the data switch is off. Will I be charged just for being connected or only if I download something. Basically is it charged by just bytes downloaded or also by time connected.
Yeah I had the same problem when I was roaming abroad. Every day it connected at night and used for approx. 1euro50 data. By the time I was back home I received a 45 euro bill! I also disabled weather, sync and stocks. No idea what application using data connection...
MoDaCo noData allows you to turn off Internet, WAP, and MMS independently. Why is this not a suitable solution?
Howdy wise men and women,
Is there any way to prevent the phone from connecting to my service providers data.
I have turned off auto update on weather and email. However, when I wake up in the morning, I look at my phone and the data has been connected for the entire night. I dont know what its connecting to. Maybe facebook updates via the 'people' tab? I do have that synced up....? I cant seem to find any settings there to prevent it from updating automatically....
I have the data disconnect quicklink installed, but that can only be used once I notice it has automatically logged on.
Is there a way I can prevent to phone from logging on unless I actually click through to a function?
Many thanks
Tom
Try using Bandswitcher or other Auto dissconnet apps.
I am running the 1.66 rom, and when I turn off the data connection in 'Comm Manager', it will be activated again (most of the times within an hour).
I am NOT using Sense (but Titanium), and to be sure, I disabled all auto-updates (for mail, for weather, for stocks, for time sync, etc.) in Sense.
I really would like to know what is the reason that the data connection activates itself. I installed Dialup Enabled/Disabler, a small tool so I can see the active connections, but I only see listening connections on 127.0.0.1. So no info here.
Does anyone have a clue how I can track down which program activates the data connection each time?
P.S. I know that an idle data connection does not drain my battery, but I just dont want some program connecting to the internet without me knowing.
