shutting off the ring - Wing, P4350 General

greetings everyone, I am quite new to the Herald. So please execuse me for asking stupid questions. When a call comes in, is there a button or shortcut option to use to shut off the ring without using the ring control slide/button on the side? I used to have a different pda which offered three choices when a call came; answer - ignore - shut off the ring... anyone, anyone? thanks...

there is still teh ignore button. not enough?

As papamopps says, you still got the red ignore button Then you can answer with the green, ignore with the red and just mute the ringtone with the slidebutton on the side

the ring
thanks friends, i thought the "ignore" option would send a busy signal to the user, thats how it was on my previous mobile. So I was kinda scared off by using that option. Sometimes, pretending that you didn't hear the call is better than sending a busy tone )) easier to deny the ignorance later on )

the ring
i meant to say "sends a busy signal to the caller" not "to the user". sorry...

by pressing the "commanager" button for more than 3sec it will go into vibrate modus. then the ringer is shut off. and it is only vibrating. it is faster then the volume slider

the ring
poppamops thanx for the help... since you are good at answering, here is another one... can you suggest a nice GPS map for Turkey?

Just to be certain: If you push the red/ignore button the person who calls you will notice that you did so. If you slide the button on the side downward the person just think you were unable to answer (it just keep ringing)

As elsatani said all you have to do is slide down the volume slider on the side of the phone... am I missing something here. The only phone I knew where you couldn't turn off the ringer was the Excalibur when it first came out. Due to the touch slider you couldn't silent the ringer. main thing that pissed me off when that phone was initially released.

SMS Received how do you stop the sound?

If I receive an SMS on just about every other phone I can hit the end call button and the SMS sound will stop; but it seems that on the XDA2 I have to put the volume all the way down... is there any other way to cut the sound when you are receiving an SMS?
If you go into settings/sounds and notifications/notifications you will see a drop down bar. You will find the sms notify function there.
Chris
No I know how to do that; but I want the sound to play so I will hear it, but once I get to it I want it to shut off instead of still continuing to play, it is like a 5 second clip, and if I hear it right away I don't want to listen to the rest of it.. make any sense?
Couldnt you use a sound file that has a short blip at the beginning then a long silence?
well of course I could use something really short, but I don't want to be checking my phone every 5 minutes to see if I didn't hear something especially in crowded places; I'm guessing that once the SMS sound starts it stops for nothing barring turning down the volume or putting it to vibrate?

I know what u mean. Just click down the volume "button" when it begins ringing. It is on the left side, above camera "button".
Satria
Do you mean to simply reduce the volume to nothing or does some of the ROM versions actually stop the SMS sound from playing when you click the volume down once?
For me I have no choice but to hold the volume down until the system sound is reduced to nothing, wait until I think the sound has stopped playing and then return the volume to the original level.
A real pain in the butt!!!
Yah I'm hoping a ROM version allows me to hit the volume down once or better yet hit the end call button like most every other phone to kill the sound once I know I've gotten a message.

Just one click and it will "mute" or "silence" the sound like in nokia HP when the sound was ringing. No need to reduce the volume to nil.
My ROM Vesion is:
ROM version: 1.03.00 USA
ROM Date: 09/24/03
Radio Version: 1.05.14
Protocol version: 1337.14
I think I know what you mean... the easiest way to do it is to press the power button
Cool that works

does it mean like when u wanna mute a voice call when it rings u hitthe volume down button, will it work for sms too?

answer/ignore -> where's my mute?

hi all,
if my mda rings, i want to be able to like 'mute' it. i can do this by 'pulling down' the volume slide button (second left from top) while a phone call comes in, but the software keeps showing that the phone is ringing.
is there a way (or software) which allows me to choose to 'mute' the call, while not interfering with my software?: like saying:
"ok i understand someones calling me, don't REJECT that someone, but let the phone ring (for that someone), while at the same time not informing me (anymore) that im being called!"

Use the Volume button to turn off the sound when you receive a call. ( Move it up or down)
Yeah I agree... I'd like to see an IGNORE - or SILENT button like the nokia OS has.
I hate having to pull the phone out of my pocked - look at the caller and think "nah, don't wanna talk to them", and not have a button to click on...
Saying all that, after a month you get used to hitting the volume on the side... one tap and the phone stops ringing...
As far as I know - thats it...

there is a program i used to use with my nokia 6630 which ignores selected ppl's calls, its called blackballer. there are also a couple other programs out there that do the same thing, but dont know of any for PPC, will keep my eyes out though.

hi.
i know of such a program for the ppc pe, it's called:
"Call SMS Blocker Lite v0.5.5"
http://www.aditusnet.it/crino/crisoft/prodotto.asp?id=11
The thing is, here you preset what is blocked or not, and it works OK, but:
It still does not allow you to silently surpress an incoming call AD HOC and carry on with whatever you are doing on your ppc pe

to mute when ringing?

is there any only one button to do it? just silence?
You want the phone to continue ringing but just silence it?
Because when you get a call in the bottom there is "answer" and "ignore". Then again if you press ignore the one calling is directed to voicemail or just hung up.
As far as I know thats the only way to immediately mute a phonecall, just press ignore.
And otherwise just use the volume slider when someone is calling. Or put the phone on vibrate when you need silence (which is also volume slider all the way down, or put it on vibrate via the com-manager).
thanks. you mean only way to silence it using volume slider when want to continue ringing. i don't want to ignore calling. the caller must be think i didn't hear the ringing...
hehe lol
Perhaps an extra program on the device would work. Inesoft Addressbook might support it.
Have it here somewhere, can check later today if it indeed has a mute button.
Just to say it more clearly: If you move the volume slider one time in any direction, the phone will mute imediately!
I think this was not understood correctly before - this is the one-key-solution you wanted, isnt it?
thanks... it works!!!

Weird HTC's "Missed Call" concept

The HTC's "Missed Call" concept is amazing and very _annoying_ to me.
Tell me if I'm the only one or there are others who feel like me.
Here's the problem:
Generally speaking, when someone calls you, you have three options (irrespective of the phone you use):
1. Accept (answer the call)
2. Reject (cancel immediately the incoming call)
3. Ignore (let the phone ring until the caller or the carrier quits the incoming call)
Now, when I get called on my TD2, I have 2 options: "Answer" and "Ignore".
In fact HTC's "Ignore" is functioning as what normally is called "Reject".
But, Ignoring and Rejecting are two different things.
If I Reject, it means I don't want to take the call and the caller understands that right away.
If I Ignore, for the caller it means either I don't want to take the call or I cannot answer for various reasons.
But HTC has messed up these concepts.
The problem is that if I intentionally reject a call (Ignore according to HTC) that call is still reported as a Missed Call (plus the green flash).
Now, I've never seen on a mobile phone a rejected call to be registered as a missed call.
I don't pretend I've used all mobile phones in the world, but I have never encountered this concept.
... and it's annoying.
I want to be informed about the calls I "MISSED" not the calls I've deliberately rejected.
Am I the only one annoyed by this?
are you reffering to the slide options (left / right) or to the button below the slider?

Yes. When you get a call you either slide to "Answer" or "Ignore".
However, "Ignore" is really rejecting a call.
.................
@Bothkill
I am bothered by this too. I always thought when I was ignoring a call the ringtone was going to silent but the caller was still ringing a bit like on Nokia's.
Exactly, this "concept" of ignore/reject it's also annoys me! Not mention the missed call when you reject the call ! This is weird also for me !
Correct me if I'm wrong since I do not have the phone, but can't you silence a ring by turning the phone over (face down) in essence, ignoring the call?
Another neat trick is something that the accelerometer makes the phone NOT do; the simple act of flipping the Diamond over on its face puts it immediately into silent mode. No more embarrassing rings during meetings.

I realize this is a link to the original touch diamond but I thought the feature was still in tact on on both the Pro2 and Diamond2

Also here, very annoying.
Not speaking for muting the sound, but rejecting call and it's going as missed call.
It's stupid.
When you get call in TD2 you will have slide for "Answer" and "Ignore" and another button for "Mute Ring".
Any mobile will have 3 types of call in the register: Incomming, Outgoing and Missed.
Incomming Calls: 2 Types:
a) Received
b) Missed
So you can "answer" the call using "Answer" slide: This will register in "Incomming" calls.
"Reject" the call using "Ignore" slide: This will register in "Missed" call.
Why??? You might have rejected the call for many reasons or you may want to know the calls that you have rejected, so Missed calles. This is EQUAL to the actual MISSED Calls, where you did not see your phone when the call came in.
And "Mute the Ringtone" using "Mute Ring" button. This will register the call based on your response with slide button as above. May be Received or Missed
And Finally you have "Outgoing Calls".
So can you specify if the calls that you reject does not get register under "Missed" where it should go?
For me the Call register of HTC TD2 using WM is perfect

Where it should go? or where does it goes in your previous phone(s)?
As far as I know, all the WM phones (standard & professional) act this way. Rejecting a call (or ignore in HTC) as well as pressing the hang up hardware button will rejister the call as a missed call (with the corresponding led notification).
As for regular phones, my older SonyEricsson phones used to behave in the same way. But Nokia phones actually treat rejected calls as recieved calls & not as missed calls.
Each type of behavior has its own benifits & disadvantages. But it would be nice if we could choose which behavior the phone does since WM phones are highly customizable.

This will be really great some senior registry guy should reply this with the related change
Missed calls are calls missed!
Prabat is correct, it does make sense....
if you rejected a call or ignores it, it means you missed that call coz you did not answere it, make sense right?
whatever your reasons are for not taking the call or by rejecting it, STILL you didnt took the call so simply means you missed it.
unanswered calls either by ignoring or rejecting SHOULD be listed under MISSED calls and thats common sense....
Suppose I have to take the train to get somewhere.
If I tell you I have missed the train what do you make of it?
That I failed to reach it in time or can it also mean that I was there just one meter from the train but I refused to get on it?
MISSED means I was not there, couldn't make it on time etc.
Common sense tells me that a missed call is a call I missed to acknowledge (i.e. missed to take any decision about it: answer or reject).
P.S.
Thinking more about it, I understand that you mistake "call" for "conversation" and HTC does the same.
What you describe is a missed conversation.
But call and conversation are two different things.
When somebody calls you (and I'm not referring only to telephony) if you answer the call, the conversation starts.
But when I don't hear when somebody calls me, then I missed that call, (i.e. I have a missed call).
As a phone user I am interested of being notified about the calls made to me and which I was not aware about.
To better describe the difference between call and conversation:
Somebody calls me.
I answer (I accepted the call).
I immediately cut off the phone connection (no conversation occurs) --> I have a missed conversation since I didn't talk with the other person.
The end result: no missed calls, one missed conversation.
The HTC Diamond 2 doesn't notify me of any missed "things" because I didn't miss any calls (and I agree with it). But I have missed a conversation and my phone doesn't know that.
The phone's job is to notify me about missed calls, and not about missed conversations.
Imagine the following dialogue:
Wife: Hey dear, why didn't you answer my first call?
Husband (drunk): Oh.. no.. dear... I missed it..!
Wife: You liar!
Husband (drunk): Oh.. no.. I can prove it. Look my led is flashing, it means it could be your missed call, let me check..
Wife: Oh no you bastard, you rejected it on purpose, but you're using that weird HTC "Missed Call" concept in order to look innocent. You've drinking with the boys again, haven't you ?!!!
at least thumbs up for the very fanciful story
Even I feel that the "Rejected" calls should go into "received calls" list.
I thought that my phone had a software problem. Now I know.
But, even if the call goes in the "missed calls" list, maybe it can give a notification that the call was deliberately "Rejected"...
Any help would be greatly appreciated since this problem is bugging me.
Thanks.

How to stop text message tone from ringing till the end?

The text message tone will keep ringing till the end.. how do i end it? In diamond, I can simply press the end button but now since the end button acts as the power button, i couldnt use the method anymore... Any idea anyone?
i have the same problem please help the ringing will drive me crazy!!!!
I also have the same problem.Any ideas for this??
Sr for my bad english.
Who said you to put a 5min mp3 as message tune or anything longer than 4 sec :S.
Go edit it first, then put it.
I am using Shine, so stop thinking that you wont know when you get a message because you'll, as i do easily. If you have plans to show your neighbors that you got a message then be my guest...

I think that counts as rude...
I believe that there are situations where by you leave your phone in the bag, or another room and won't get to hear the incoming message and it'd be nice to have the ringtone ring until you hear it.
Just that you don't want it to continue ringing when you pick it up and start reading the sms while listening to the ringtone...
Editing the ringtone to 3 to 4 seconds doesn't help... Gothik, I think u're being very narrow minded and stereotyping...
If you dont like something/doesn't please your 'mind', that doesn't mean i am being rude or whatever is that stereotyping thing.
and every sane one knows messages ring-tone should be short, not full songs.
Certainly i am no girl and have no experience with haivng a phone in the bag :S...
On other hand i tried it, works fine on my cell, so flaw in your ROM.
