SMS Received how do you stop the sound? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

If I receive an SMS on just about every other phone I can hit the end call button and the SMS sound will stop; but it seems that on the XDA2 I have to put the volume all the way down... is there any other way to cut the sound when you are receiving an SMS?

If you go into settings/sounds and notifications/notifications you will see a drop down bar. You will find the sms notify function there.
Chris

No I know how to do that; but I want the sound to play so I will hear it, but once I get to it I want it to shut off instead of still continuing to play, it is like a 5 second clip, and if I hear it right away I don't want to listen to the rest of it.. make any sense?

Couldnt you use a sound file that has a short blip at the beginning then a long silence?

well of course I could use something really short, but I don't want to be checking my phone every 5 minutes to see if I didn't hear something especially in crowded places; I'm guessing that once the SMS sound starts it stops for nothing barring turning down the volume or putting it to vibrate?

I know what u mean. Just click down the volume "button" when it begins ringing. It is on the left side, above camera "button".

Satria
Do you mean to simply reduce the volume to nothing or does some of the ROM versions actually stop the SMS sound from playing when you click the volume down once?
For me I have no choice but to hold the volume down until the system sound is reduced to nothing, wait until I think the sound has stopped playing and then return the volume to the original level.
A real pain in the butt!!!

Yah I'm hoping a ROM version allows me to hit the volume down once or better yet hit the end call button like most every other phone to kill the sound once I know I've gotten a message.

Just one click and it will "mute" or "silence" the sound like in nokia HP when the sound was ringing. No need to reduce the volume to nil.
My ROM Vesion is:
ROM version: 1.03.00 USA
ROM Date: 09/24/03
Radio Version: 1.05.14
Protocol version: 1337.14

I think I know what you mean... the easiest way to do it is to press the power button

Cool that works

is there any only one button to do it? just silence?
You want the phone to continue ringing but just silence it?
Because when you get a call in the bottom there is "answer" and "ignore". Then again if you press ignore the one calling is directed to voicemail or just hung up.
As far as I know thats the only way to immediately mute a phonecall, just press ignore.
And otherwise just use the volume slider when someone is calling. Or put the phone on vibrate when you need silence (which is also volume slider all the way down, or put it on vibrate via the com-manager).
thanks. you mean only way to silence it using volume slider when want to continue ringing. i don't want to ignore calling. the caller must be think i didn't hear the ringing...
hehe lol
Perhaps an extra program on the device would work. Inesoft Addressbook might support it.
Have it here somewhere, can check later today if it indeed has a mute button.
Just to say it more clearly: If you move the volume slider one time in any direction, the phone will mute imediately!
I think this was not understood correctly before - this is the one-key-solution you wanted, isnt it?
thanks... it works!!!

shutting off the ring

greetings everyone, I am quite new to the Herald. So please execuse me for asking stupid questions. When a call comes in, is there a button or shortcut option to use to shut off the ring without using the ring control slide/button on the side? I used to have a different pda which offered three choices when a call came; answer - ignore - shut off the ring... anyone, anyone? thanks...

there is still teh ignore button. not enough?
As papamopps says, you still got the red ignore button Then you can answer with the green, ignore with the red and just mute the ringtone with the slidebutton on the side
the ring
thanks friends, i thought the "ignore" option would send a busy signal to the user, thats how it was on my previous mobile. So I was kinda scared off by using that option. Sometimes, pretending that you didn't hear the call is better than sending a busy tone )) easier to deny the ignorance later on )
the ring
i meant to say "sends a busy signal to the caller" not "to the user". sorry...

by pressing the "commanager" button for more than 3sec it will go into vibrate modus. then the ringer is shut off. and it is only vibrating. it is faster then the volume slider
the ring
poppamops thanx for the help... since you are good at answering, here is another one... can you suggest a nice GPS map for Turkey?

Just to be certain: If you push the red/ignore button the person who calls you will notice that you did so. If you slide the button on the side downward the person just think you were unable to answer (it just keep ringing)

As elsatani said all you have to do is slide down the volume slider on the side of the phone... am I missing something here. The only phone I knew where you couldn't turn off the ringer was the Excalibur when it first came out. Due to the touch slider you couldn't silent the ringer. main thing that pissed me off when that phone was initially released.

call volume always starts out quiet

Every time I answer the first call of the day, I have to turn up the volume, which is very low. Does it default to low volume from start up?
Also, I frequently put my phone on vibrate with no ringer, then back to full volume ringer throughout the day. This wouldn't have anything to do with call volume, would it? Sometimes mid-day the call volume is back to low.
I use a bluetooth when driving to work, but adjust the call volume on that device, not the phone.
Am I just doing something dumb, here?
Thanks

Stock T-Mobile ROM
That setting you mention only has the choices ring tone, and ring type, which I had on Vibrate AND ring.

[Q]Sammy's Headphones?

Hey all, this is a quick question about the headphones that come with our awesome phones. I've barely started to use them since my main ones broke, and I can't seem to figure out what the button presses do!? Sometimes when i press the bottom of it, the volume goes from low to HIGH and my ears go deaf for a quick second :/
Then when i press the top one...it pauses, then with the middle area of the button, sometimes it skips the song or pauses it.
I am so confused, can any kind soul shed some light please? Thanks!

I thought I was cheated out of headphones after reading he had more than one, haha.
Yeah same here only one button

Same here, but there's 3...uh how can i put it..."areas"?? to the buttons. that's why (i assume) theres the 2 little dots on it. If it was one button, then what would even be the point of just having it!? then it would be able to do only one function.

Well that's kinda the point with headphones that come with phones they come with one button , and a mic.
The button usually has the funtcion of: redial, answer incoming call, end call, and sometimes voice commands.

It all depends on drivers. My bluetooth headset has one button too, but it can handle short and long press, single or double click etc.
Looks like Sammy headphones button has two options
-short press -> brings up call log
-long press -> brings up voice dialer.
maybe end call if you are in call mode.
so then what about the whole volume thing? i understand the whole concept of that one button for calling functionality, but isn't it werid that when i listen to music on my phone the volume totally goes out of whack?

What app do you use to listen music?
For me it always the same. Tried in WinAmp and Standard player.
PS. when in call log short press will auto-dial the first number.
Google music beta, stock, Winamp, and video player. it does it for all, and my itouch too. But meh, whatever not a big deal, i wish i could have changed to volume with it like the headphones that comes with iDevices. Thanks again for all that caller info stuff.

Calls go silent and have to call them back

This has been doing on for a while, sometimes when im talking to somebody the calls go silent so i have to hang up and call them back. It also happens on the rare occasion when i pick up a call it is silent.
I have cyanogenmod or watever its called and the latest radio
Make sure you aren't pressing the HOLD button with your cheek when the phone is up to your ear.
Thats not it. Sometimes they are talking but cant listen to me.
