hello!
i must buy myself a laptop.
i want to buy a powerfull Asus with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz, 2 GB DDRII, but it is only possible to install vista on it beacause there is no driver support for xp.
or i can choose a different Asus with Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66, 1 Gb DDRII which has xp support.
my only concern with vista si that i don't know if all my PDA programs will be working anymore.
for example could i still install SPB Pocket PLus from desktop onto the PDA in vista?
Do you know if the Keygenerator programs work in vista?
some of my aplications that i use are with cracks&serials
will i be able to sync my PDA with vista very easy?
what about other programs made to run in xp. will they run in vista?
also i am concerned about the posibility of upgrading my device under vista.
or should i buy the one with xp support.
i think that there is a major boost of power on a 2GB RAM laptop then on a 1GB RAM one.
and that is why i would like to buy the first model.
what do you think?
thanks in advanced for your answers!
Hi,
You can use all features like synchronise and install apps in Windows Vista like in XP, you just need to install Windows Mobile Device Centre instead of ActiveSync, you can get it from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
You can synchronise your data, you can install apps as well in device centre.
You can buy any laptop which is Vista capable but it doesnt mean you cant run XP on it, the only diff. I think is Vista consumes more memory

OOOps,
"APPLICATION BLOCKED DUE TO KNOWN COMPATIBILITY ISSUE
Previous versions of ActiveSync are not supported on PCs running Windows Vista. All features previously available in ActiveSync are now..."
Any ideas, rumors, ANYTHING????? Dont really feel like switching between OS to Sync my Exec :?
U do not use AS with VISTA !
You must use Windows Mobile Device Center
And that is a huge improvement !!
Everything just works, no hassle no problems,
the device is just that, a device on the compter.
This is with VISTA Beta 2, and you have to select the mobile uppdate in vista uppdates.

I am about to upgrade so I wanted to be ready for any problems syncing my 8525 with Vista and Office 2007 (outlook)
Thanks in advance!
Q
same question here!
Really no problems syncing with vista ultimate. But..Rom upgrades and flashing individual portions of rom's like radio or just the os have been a problem. Best solution is to setup dual boot with Vista and XP, so you can still use XP when needed. Each can see or use files on the other partitions.
While I have found very few apps or processes that will not work in Vista or Vista xp compatability mode, there are a few utilities, networking tools, Rom Upgrades, etc that I use that still have some issues with Vista.
Actually, if you have a lot of disk space..It's best to have multi boot..Like Vista, XP, MS Server 2003r2 and Linux all on one machine...Each seems to have some advantages and disadvantages..Each has some tools or other things that can not be accomplished on one particular operating system...
But at least set up dual boot with XP and Vista...That way you are sure to be able to do everything you do today. Both Vista and Ofc2007 are much better than xp and ofc2003. As usual, if using office 2007 and others in your workgroup or office are using 2003, don't forget to save ofc documents in 2003 mode so they can use them...
I have Vista Home Premium, I had slight problems syncing my music in my 2GB Micro SD to WMP 11. I just had to format my Micro SD and it worked perfectly fine. Every thing else works great.
i saw a video where someone is showing his jasjar device with windows vista on it,so if someone has it,could you please post it here
this is the video where i saw it

It's actually quite quick once you get it going
Just a shame its only a qvga screen really - not much point to it.

There is no windows vista for any pocketpc, this is remote desktop mobile app whic is connected over wifi or other network to a vista pc
so you can not get it from anywhere because it simply does not exist
"do you know, where can I get it??? pls"
you already have it it's called therminal services

The CPU of that device is an actual x86 device, the same as is in your PC. It's basically an ultra-small laptop. Meanwhile your phone has an ARM RISC chipset which is totally incompatible with Windows PC editions.
Nice scam
Hehe, nice to see, "Lokaal Station (C" in Dutch has got 18,5 GB free on his phone.. lol, would like to have that
(Local Disk (C)
windows vista is not for pocket pc and most probably this video might be of remote desktop or wisbar advance ...

I even have screenshots...

It is called xpphone (not too original on the name if you ask me), but it isn't from HP (at least not the one I saw)
hi there. i was wondering if someone had any experience, connecting his Win Mo 6.5 on a Windows 2008 Server PC/Laptop and had a successful sync.
I recently changed on my laptop from windows 7 64-bit to windows server 2008 R2 64-bit (the reasons actually simple, server OS runs way smoother that Windows 7, and manages RAM much better on a laptop), but im no more able to sync all my stuff i used to sync with WMDC.
downloaded from MS site the Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver (vista, 64-bit), installed fine, but when i did connect my HTC HD Mini, it couldnt find any drivers.
It starts to try to locate the drives, but then, error finding'em.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance
win 7 and server 2008 r2 have same core.. there is no different memory management, it comes with less hardware-consuming userstuff like aero-desktop, thats the reason why it feels "smoother". using server without intention to use all that serverspecific stuff is stupid, because it has less compatibility to lots of programms and tools, you will also need special server editions of software that will cost a lot more money. and dont let us talk about the different prices of win7 and server 2008..
you can slim down win7 to a naked win server 2008 (there should be many articles in the web)
but if you have problems on windows server, take use of microsoft support service..

dude, without been TOO rude, i didn't ask about anyones opinion what OS is better or runs faster/smoother. There is a good reason i switched over to Windows 2008 R2 and honestly i don't have to explain why, especially to ppl who didn't get the question.
so, unless, u had any experience with that kind of stuff, please spare me.
@other: sorry for my language.
P.S. @schlund: mein lieber freund, wenn Du nicht die frage kapierst, bitte nicht mit nutzlosen zeug und Kommentaren spammen. Danke

and just for your information, because im sure u r talking bull...

let me inform you, that indeed Windows 2008 R2 Server runs SMOOTHER even with Aero stuff enabled (its called Desktop Experience and Windows Theme service enabled).

please dude, read the question ...
finally, i figured out, how to make it work
go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=6eb8d0aa-bc6b-4864-8ffe-dc26e1d9f843&displaylang=en and download Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit). Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=4F68EB56-7825-43B2-AC89-2030ED98ED95 and download Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit) (you have to have a valid copy of MS OS - because Validation is Required).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Install the downloaded files with the order you downloaded them (1. Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit) and 2. Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit))
Plugin your WM device, and voila, everything works fine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My problem was, i downloaded only the first file from the Microsoft site, since i thought the second file was the same (names are almost identical, if you are in a hurry)
P.S. if you have Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit (im not sure if this the case with the 2007 version as well), active sync will not work.
So my roommate in college has a Sandy Bridge macbook pro 13." He (like me) is an engineering major and wants to run Windows on his computer for solidworks and other software. I am probably going to set up boot camp for him over the weekend because he doesn't know much about computers.
Basically I want this to be short and a one time deal. Does anyone here have experience with windows 8 on a mbp? Are the drivers released and/or functional? Or would I be better off putting on windows 7 right now. He is interested in windows 8 but if it means he loses major functionality then I think he would be better off with 7. We can get both for free right now through DreamSpark.
I am running windows 8 on my thinkpad, so I don't need the pros and cons of the OS itself, just the experience on a macbook pro.
I just recently used bootcamp to load Windows 8 Pro on a Macbook Pro 8,1 (early 2011).
Make sure you have bootcamp 5.0 installed. If you are up-to-date with Mountain Lion then 5.0 should be installed.
Open Bootcamp Assistant in OSX; Select the option to download and burn the latest Bootcamp Windows Support Software. It takes a long time to download, so hang in there, and have a blank dvd ready in your optical drive.
You should have a Windows 8 dvd image/iso (either purchased or otherwise acquired) and the bootcamp 5.0 Windows Support Software DVD you just downloaded and burned. Put the MS W8 DVD in the drive, and using bootcamp assistant in OSX select a Windows 7 install, choose your bootcamp partition size, format, and reboot.
When you get into the W8 setup after the reboot make sure you format the bootcamp partition you just made. It needs to be partitioned in a NTFS format.
When you get through the W8 install and are on the desktop, do not reboot. Put the Bootcamp 5 windows support software dvd in and install the drivers etc. Reboot when it's done.
After reboot, find the bootcamp icon in the taskbar, select it and go through the tabs to change trackpad settings and to pick if you boot into Windows or OSX after a reboot. If you right click on the bootcamp icon in the taskbar you can also choose to "reboot into OSX"
Everything is working great so far. I really like Windows 8 and have pretty much abandoned OSX now. I'm looking to get a 256GB ssd for a dedicated W8 install and then move my 320GB stock HDD to the optibay.
You might want to setup a quick VM with virturalbox or whatever else to see if you or your friend like W8, and everything you need to be compatible is compatible.
EDIT: Apple has not officially released Windows 8 boot camp support. However, my install is running without issue with the drivers that are available.
OK thanks. looks like 8 is the way to go. I just have a couple more questions.
First, will the 64-bit version work fine? I don't know how much RAM his computer has but I don't wanna waste another dvd burning 32-bit when I have a 64-bit from my computer.
Second, how should I partition the hdd? I have no clue how much space osx needs compared to windows. The hdd is 250gb and he will probably just install ~10gb or less of software.
Just wanted to let you know multi-touch does not work...other than that it's really stable and if you friend has the 2010 or 2011 macbook pro it has 4gb ram, so it can handle 32bit version, I'm running windows 8 pro via boot camp it's all good.
Edited: there's trackpad++ driver that bring multi-touch functions back....

Are W8 navigation trackpad gestures working or just two finger scroll? Two finger scroll worked for me out of the box, well, after installing the Bootcamp 5.0 Windows Support Software.
