Using BT to check hotmail - P3600 General

Hi all,
I set up my Trinity to also check my hotmail account. Ofcourse, when I do this outside the confines of my home Wifi network, the P3600 automatically connects to hotmail via my UMTS connection.
When I'm on the road I don't mind this, but when I'm at the office, where there is no wifi, I would like to use the connection my PC has to the internet. I was thinking about using BT for this but don't know if this is possible at all...
Anyone with suggestions?
I don't think this is possible via Activesync, but if possible I would like to avoid the use of it anyway...
Thx for any suggestions!

if connected to activesync one is connected to the network of the pc with activesync
unless steps have been made on the pc, pda or office network to block it
i surf with bluetooth connection to activesync all the time

Likewise i use the USB active sync connection to connect to the internet on my Trinity, and Alpine as well. The only restriction, as mentioned, is that if the PC has limited access rights then so does the PDA.

Hey thanks Rudegar & deedee, I didn't know this actually
So simple and obvious, but I never tried it out
Guess I'll have to install Activesync on the [email protected] too then....

XDAII Bluetooth MSN / PocketIRC

Hi All,
When I connect via BT with Activesync. When I set passtrough on activesync I should be able to surf using the PC's BroadBand connection I understand. My question is, will all other internet related traffic be send with the BT connection ? ie, will MSN Messenger and things like PocketIRC be able to connect via BT also ?
Thanks,
Rob.
as far as i know it should be possible just like you should be able to brows the LAN network the pc with activsync is connected to

BA - WiFi / While Docked

I've got it to work once, and not sure how, but I want to use my WiFi Connection while my PDA is docked so I can use Pocket Controller and access it with my desktop.
Here's my situation. at work, our connection is locked down, but we have WiFi for visiting clients, that's wide open, I like to use Agile Messenger to chat with my friends but can only do so using the open WiFi, but I want to use my keyboard and monitor on my desktop so I connect to my pda using pocket controller.
The thing is... when I connect to wifi it works, then when I dock, my PDA creates a network conenction with my desktop, and it becomes primary, this kicking me off agile messenger... I've tried docking then wifi...same results
I'm running Windows Mobile 2005, windows xp and Active Sync 4.1
I've turned off all active sync connection settings, but I still need my pda to make a network connection with my desktop thus I can use pocket controller to controll and view it.
ideas?
On ActiveSync Options->Rules change Pass Through Connection to be "Work". Quite appropriate in this case ;-)
I have yet to test this, but in theroy.. or atleast my attempt to grasp the concept..
The USB/Data connection between my desktop/PDA via active sync will then only really be a bridge to my PC, and any and all Internet traffic will then travel through WiFi, as it will become the primary/only "Internet" enabled connection.
Sound right?
Yep, I really dislike the way WM has the concept of Internet and Work and even more hate the way that this cludge has been used by operators like O2 to provide an Internet GPRS account (Internet) and a WAP GPRS account (Work).
What I suggested definately works on 2003, but if your operator does the same as O2, you won't be able to receive MMSs.

I have activesync 4.1 with a window mobile 5 device, but I can't find this option...
I would like to keep my GPRS-connection open when i'm connected to my PC. But the same problem over here as the topicstarter

Is there a way to connect Activesync via WiFi 802.11b ?

I have an O2 XDAIIi with 802.11b wi-fi connectivity and a wireless home network. I can connect my XDAIIi to my network access point router very reliably and also my home PC laptop to the router but I do not know how to get my XDAIIi and PC to connect to each other via the router. I would ideally like to use wi-fi rather than bluetooth to connect Activesync for synchronisation. Has anyone managed to do this?
Also, how is it possible to synchronise your XDAIIi (or any other pocket PC) with your home PC remotely, e.g. from a wi-fi hotspot?
I've done this, works great, but an issue is, I understand, that ActiveSync 4 and beyond are going to remove wifi syncing. Eeek.
But, for now, from memory, I think you just set ActiveSync to "get connected" over ethernet I think (the screen where you choose USB, Serial etc). I don't think you do anything special on the PPC, although I might be mistaken. You do have to manually start activesync and choose sync though on PPC.
I'll have to check my settings when I get home.
Re syncing over public wifi: the reason AS 4 removes wifi syncing is because there's no security in it. So public syncing, although techinically feasible AFAIK, might not be safe. But, caveat emptor.
Sorry for being vague, someone infront of a router can probably tell you more, this is just to say it can be done!

Thanks for your reply. It's really good news to know it can be done. It would be really helpful to know a bit more about your settings when you get home. In particular, do you need to allow your home PC files to be shared/visible? Also, when I open Activesync on my PPC and click Tools there is only the option to connect via IR, nothing else, even when I have a Bluetooth or WiFi connection active?

I wrote a dutch utility how to connect Active Sync through Wifi.
I hope you understand it.
You need ActiveSync 3.8.
And it's important that you create a partnership between the device and your PC through USB.
http://www.leukbellen.nl/activesync/
Good luck.
Yep, listen to adewidt.. connect up normally through USB and activesync as normal.
Then, stick in your wifi card and ensure you can browse the net through PPC. Sort this out first.
Then, check activesync on pc is able to use "ethernet" on the "get connected" settings page.
Once that's happening, I think you just load up activesync on PPC and choose sync (where it says "sync" about 1/3 of the way down the screen on the left, click that). I think it then tries to sync over the network, ie wifi. Activesync on your PC should detect this and get to work.
You don't need to be sharing any files etc, and is not advisable on publically accessible networks like wifi. Also, ensure your firewall is correctly configured. I don't think you need to set anything in partcular for AS if you can already USB sync, but ensure you're using a firewall always when wifi-ing.

Thanks chaps. Yes I did just about manage to understand the dutch instructions and it all works fine. Very happy :-D

just connect to AS 4 and use it (of couse your PC must have internet connection)
I'm using ActiveSync 4.1, WIFI to connect my PC to the internet and an USB port to synchronize my Pocket (SPV M3000 /Qtek 9100)
When my Pocket PC is connected to the PC, this "lock" the WIFI acces to the Internet. After synchronisation, it's necessary to reboot my computer to be ale to use the WIFI acces to internet.
Do you have an idea to correct this problem (this never happens before with ActiveSync 3.8) ?
Thanks in advance.
Thank God for that I'm having the same problem when i connect my wizard to my PC for active Sync my wifi in fact my internet connection locks up. When i look in network connections on my PC I have another Local Area Connection 3 ??????
But my web is locked ????
As soon as i disconect my wizard i loose the LAC3 but have to reboot my PC to get web acess again???
Anyone got any ideas???
I dont have wifi acces at home but when i connect to the pc which is connected to adsl, the wizard is also connected to the lan as i am able to surf the internet. It seems perhaps you have established another connection via your pc? my wifi is disconnected btw.

I have the same problem. After a tip from someone on the MS Active sync forum who said it may be something to do with security I have worked out the following.
1) All computers loose all netork connections if they are connected to the router wirelessly and I try to Activesync.
2) If the Activesunc computer is connected to the router via CAT5 and I Active Sync then all is ok.
3) If I disable wireless security both WEP and WPA I can Activesync with my laptop connected wirelessly via to the router without loosing my network connections.
4) Something strange is happening still: When the PDA is connected to Activesync both computers keep popping up the UPNP icon telling me new network device found, even though its been connected for some time.
5) I have tested with WPA security, I will test with WEP next to see if it still has the same problem.
All computers loose all netork connections if they are connected to the router wirelessly and I try to ActiveSync.

I hit this issue with my home LAN when syncing via cable - all wireless clients dropped their connections and I got an earful from the lodger
I found that this doesn't occur when syncing via Bluetooth.
Mmm, thanks for the info - I spent hours trying to get this running yesterday and hitting the same problems - I actually cocked up my entire network and had to reboot everything! Will try bluetooth later...

Internet on the smartphone via bt

Hello
Can anybody help me how i can set up my smartphone that i can connect to the internet via BT?
I like to use the broadband internet connection of my home pc for browsing on the smartphone.
Greets,
Che
unless you set it to block it when you are connected with activesync you are connected to what ever network connection the pc have
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449
thanks for the answer. One thing i don't know is how i can set the phones internet explorer to use the bt connection and not the gprs.
i already have a activesync connection to the pc via bt, internet connection is shared.
in activesync, connection setting: this computer is connected to: maike it connected to the internet. that usually does the trick.
if you use a WM5 defice it's probably the only thing you can do to go online via BT, if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one.
system->connections->connections->advanged
changed from myISP to mynetwork
then it use bluetooth for internet
and
" if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one."
is only valid if you dont have vidcomm bluetooth stack
hi
thank you for the good inputs, that was what i have searched for.
It was a bit curios for me, because the OS Language of my phone is german, but now it is working!
