I am one of those users that is having trouble connecting to GPRS more than once and getting the "unknown reason" problem. Only a soft reset or turn on/off flight mode will fix it. Well I found out what is causing this, at least for my device. I am running Wisbar Advance on mine and is what causing the problem. Once I closed the app, I can connect/disconnect GPRS as I please. I made calls in between also and it still works...
The developer for Wisbar is working on this issue so hopefully he will get this fixed. In the meantime, I have turned off Wisbar..
Hope this is what causing u guys' devices also.
Great info! Just a heads up. I had this problem since I upgraded to the 1.06 ROM however I have never installed Wizbar Advance. The only thing that I could get to fix it was upgrading to the Norwegian 1.11 ROM version or using the 1.10 US Radio stack. Even the Finish 1.11 did not fix the problem.

I have the problem and I'm not using Wisbar. I guess magician_os1.11wwe_bigstorage_6.zip is based on the Finnish ROM?
You can add another application to the list of problem apps (at least this worked for me)
Sygic .mobile contacts seems to mess up GPRS as well.
I've been using the 1.06 WWE rom, and i tried anasky's 1.11 bigstorage rom, and both times, with .mobile contacts installed, i received the "cannot connect for an unknown reason" error, after uninstalling it, GPRS reconnects fine everytime.
Hope this helps some of you.
i changed my sim card to a new one and now i don't get that error. plus i believe that part of that error is the service provider.
hope that helps
I have Qtek 1.11 and same problem too
It is a real pain, I do not have Wisbar, and I can only connect once then need a reset. Any ideas out there?
One cheap solution is to put the phone in flight mode and then go back to reset the GPRS. Not very smooth, but at least better than having to soft reset.

I have tried to turn flight modem on/off but i still get the error
"dialed:isplnk1.swip.net. The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings"
Does ne1 know what I can do? so I can use my gprs again. it worked fine just a day ago, and I havent done anythin at all that could cause this problem
I don' t have a magician but a blue angel.
I've got the same problem.
It's the last built of IA Caller ID.
I've make a hard reset with no IA Caller and no problem again.
just double check the settings to make sure that the access point name shows up in the number section of the connection settings, when its not there that can cause the answering modem problems

I have 2 SIM Cards with the same number, one for the QTek 2020, and one for a Motorola mpx200.
If they are both switched on, then my GPRS is disconnected after about 15 minutes, and I can only reconnect by going in and out of flight mode.
If I switch the Motorola off, then I stay connected, and can disconnect
and reconnect properly.

Never had that error message. Only the one hamsup1o was talking about. Is the Norwegian 1.11 Ananskyfied yet? I want to test if the problem is fixed in that one.
For me, I don't think it's any one piece of software. Since I upgraded my Jam last weekend to 1.11, it continually disconnects from GPRS. Soft resets may or may not correct the problem on the first try so a second reset is in order. Trying to turn Flight Mode On/Off is a chore in itself. I may need to tap "Turn Flight Mode On" several times before it finally does it. Even when GPRS is connected it will only last 5 minutes. Then while still connected, going to a different webpage, says that webpage cannot be found. Very freakin' frustrating!!
So, today at work I backed everything to SD and did a Hard Reset. I then cancelled out of the Operator settings, but allowed the other apps to install and soft reset. I manually added my data settings and connected. Within two minutes I lost my connection. Reset the device and couldn't connect. Reset again and it's fine. It's hit or miss. Restored from backup. Gave a MS Voice Command error so deleted that. Several resets later on the train ride home and it's been fine ever since, for now!
The question is, could this be a T-Mobile problem? I called them yesterday and all they could tell me is that data outages in the Boston area may occur in the evenings due to upgrades. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that I did the ROM upgrade and TMo is acting up. I'm pulling hairs here!!

I have the exact same problem with my Jam on T-Mobile (in Colorado) however it seems to have gotten better with the 1.11 ROM. The strange thing is that it does not ever happen with my 6315 on T-Mobile. I have spoken with their customer services serveral times and we have tried a few different things. The last thing we tried was a brand new SIM card to remove that as a posible problem. Since doing that, I can stay connected to GPRS, take calls and it re-connects with out me doing anything and it seems to have helped.
I have not tried to see if there is any change between wap.voicestream.com or internet2.voicestream.com. Which are you using?
I have the same problem with GPRS and the Cannot connect for an unknown reason. It initially connects fine, but if I disconnect it manually, I cannot reconnect without the soft reset. I started getting this error when I upgraded to 1.11WWE last night. I went back to Version 1.06WWE and the problem was gone so it is defiantely a ROM problem. Imate's Customer "Dis"-Service continues to timeout everytime I go online with them. I am in the process of trying the UK 1.11JAM Rom to see if that makes any difference. I am with T-Mobile USA.
On the Club I-mate forum there are people with this problem as well and one of them is on Cingular!!! So it's not carrier specific.
__________edit
I tried the UK 1.11 ROM and it worked a bit better. There was even a new tab in the GPRS bubble that you could click to disconnect the GPRS rather than holding down the red phone button. But alas, I still got the Cannot Connect for an unknown reason mesage. I'm going back to 1.06 (Thankfully I backed it up) It worked fine. Is anyone having this problem with the Anansky hacked ROM?
Also, why does the UK version come with Skype and the WWE version doesn't?
Could it be due to Activesync?
I too have the GPRS problem, usually it occurs after synchronizing with the PC. The flight mode trick fixes it. I can repeat this behavior and can always fix it, so it remains a nuisance...
Since you can access the internet through Activesync, maybe the OS stays locked in that mode and does not allow for GPRS to be a valid network connection...
Anybody else have similar symptoms?
Mashie, I use internet3.voicestream.com. As you said nothing seems to help.
chinadan, Yes! I had the exact same thing happen to me last night. I've been tinkering with my Jam for the last week trying to get it to work. Last night it was working fine, but then I connected it to my desktop to load PHM Registry and when I disconnected, GPRS started flaking out! Performing a soft reset didn't help.
I've been going back and forth with i-Mate CS, and it's obvious they know there's an issue. They seem to be getting a little testie since I'm basically telling them I'm not an idiot so please get the crap fixed! They had the nerve to send me instructions on how to setup a GPRS Connection on the Jam! What nerve!
Anyway, think I'll try loading the worldwide 1.11WWE and see what happens. Anyone have a backup of 1.06 US 850 ROM?
Thanks and cheers!
Well, I went almost 24 hours without a GPRS problem on my JAM yesterday. I didn't get the usual "Cannot connect for an unknown reason" error message. This time I got a message saying that there was a problem with the modem???? I don't know where that one came from... changed my gprs setting to internet2.voicestream.com and it works now....until the next error message.
Screw it. I'm going back to 1.06. The JAM is VERY sluggish now and I can't even get it into flight mode to correct the problem. I guess I'll wait for the patch. (It seemslike we spend most of our time waiting for a patch or an update of some kind. ARGGGHH!)
ALso, I don't know if this was the case with the 1.06 ROM, but I used to have to hold down the red phone button for a few seconds to get the GPRS to disconnect. But with the 1.11UK rom all it takes is for you to click the red phone button and the connection is dropped. Example: If I'm on the Today Screen with GPRS connected, click the red phone button and voila, gprs is disconnected. Is this normal? I don't remember it disconnecting so easily with 1.06.

Any chance you give us a link to those pics? Pleaseeeeeeee
Ok, been tinkering around this evening concerning the GPRS connection issues and this is what I have thus far. First, Club IMate has new Operator Settings on their website. One of their techs was kind enough to e-mail it to me this afternoon and checking their website this evening shows T-Mobile ver1.6. Applied those settings and it seemed to do a better job at installing my VPN settings for internet3.voicestream.com. However, when I checked the Connections screen it listed My Isp with my VPN connection and My Work Network was setup for wap.voicestream.com. Ok, nice but I don't use the wap settings. Connecting through IE to wap.yahoo.com resulted in the TMo Wap connection to launch, but not my VPN connection. So I went back into Connection settings and set both Work and Internet to "My ISP". Upon doing this and selecting any website from IE, it wouldn't connect and give me the error "Make sure you have your modem installed blah, blah, blah". If I then press and held on the "G" and tapped connect, it connected just fine.
So that got me thinking about the Registry again and why in the Connection screen for both Internet and Private network, why there was no option for "The Internet", or "My Secure WAP" so forth and so on. When I had my XDA IIs, those where options. So I loaded PHM Registry to the device and went exploring. The first thing I found and deleted was in: \HKLM\Software\HTC\WModem. I deleted the Preset GPRS key. The next thing I found where all the Interent settings I just mentioned in:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\. There is listed "The Interent" (which I tried to create myself in Connections but it said it already existed) and My Secure Wap plus others that I had made. So for starters I deleted "The Internet" key and reset the device.
Went back into Connections and created a new network called The Internet and added my connection to internet3. I then switched it to only look at The Internet network. Launching IE again and trying to go to wap.yahoo.com. Again, I get the "Unable to Connect: Ensure that your modems are presentand inserted correctly, and no network card present".
So obvioulsy, my edits to the Registry made little difference. So again that got me thinking. Why would their be a WAP connection when I selected T-Mobile VPN during the new cab installation? Because it needs it!
I then went back into the Network Management screen under connections and left it set to The Internet for programs that auto connect to the internet and set it to My Work Network for the private network option. Since doing this I've had no issues when any connection while browsing. If I go to a WAP site it automatically connects to T-Mobile WAP connection. If I then decide to go to a full blown HTTP website, it automatically stops the WAP connection and launches the VPN one. There is no delay when it does this, well, maybe a second!
My thinking is (and, I'm no programmer or Registry master!) that the problem lies in the Registry settings for IE. Perhaps it runs deeper than that but if one of you Guru's could take a look perhaps we can get this ironed out once and for all. Thanks for listening!
Hi guys,
ive had my exec for about 2 weeks now. In the last week it has started to randomly loose network signal. It keeps searching till you either soft reset it or turn flight mode on and off. It will find a signal in about 10 seconds after that.
Is this there a 'dont keep loosing signal' setting that im missing?!
Mine does the same thing - annoying as hell! Not worked it out yet.
Are you talking about telephone or GPRS signal ( U or G )
Phone signal
everything! it looses all signal.
I called o2 and they want me to go into an 02 shop for them to have a look at it before they give me a replacement
The are all 'handset trained' apparently.
I also called o2 a week ago stating the same problem, They gave me a refferance number and said they will look into it, But of corse 1 week later they have not called me, So this afternoon i will find the referance number and give them a call.
I will post ther Bollox answer on here tonight
John
Same problem here with a MDA Pro. I ahve noticed that this happens when I am roaming in Germany as well. Very anoying. That and the thing freezing in a call and needing a re-set. This is my second one as the first one the screen portion became loose, happened on the one before as well.
I have the same problem althoughmine will refind the signal after about a minute. It seems to disappear whenever I ask thephoneto do something new (open a program etc).
I finally persauded T-Mobile to exchange mine so I'm getting a new one delivered tomorrow.
I'll let you know if that fixes it!
Andy
My XDA2 used to lose its ability to communicate if I was out of a signal area for more than 15 minutes, but I haven't had it happen yet with the Exec. A soft reset or Flight Mode on/off cycle would fix it.
It is frustrating but didn't happen often.
Well i phoned o2 and they said there was still no answer and that no one else had complainded about this, So i told them of this forum......
As per the last post i have also had this on a 2 and 2i, and i gree if its out of servie for a few mins its seems to give up looking for service until you reset.
mine has done it overnight befor, i looked befor going to bed and it had just the 3 dots flashing where the aerial should be. the next morning it was still the same, quick soft rest and into full service, thats when i first rang o2
John
I've had this on all my XDAs in the past, and seems to continue with the Exec.
Very annoying, but not sure what can be done about it.
Ant
guys,
wait for a rom upgrade from o2, ( with new radio rom)
that should solve the problem.
happens with xda, xda2, skipped xda2-i and xda2-s,
and now it's back..
Hi Guys, I have been having this problem for weeks with my MDA Pro. I convinced myself it wasn't the phone and that it was T-Mobiles Network. In desperation last night I spoke to T-Mobile about the problem. They told me it was a faulty phone and that I would have to contact the supplier of the phone and ask them to replace it. I tried to explain others had the problem and that I wasn't happy to have to send my phone off and wait for a replacement. But no avail. So I sat down at home and looked at the settings. I think I might of cured it! Maybe it is a fluke but by clicking the signal meter and going to settings, then changing network selection to manual it has stopped hunting when it loses signal and quickly re-picks it up. HNope this helps others.
Giles.

Defenitely...that did it.
I had the same in Holland with KPN: while switched to manual no more problems.
In Romania however, where I also have UMTS, I had to switch it back (or it switched itselve back, after changing SIM card, I don't remember) to AUTO.
There it switches from GPRS to UMTS if UMTS signal is OK.
Huib
Ok, i have the same problem. Have GPRS Always on set in registry and 10 minutes ago, my MDA Pro lost GPRS connection. It trys to reconnect all the time. But no Connection can be build up. After Flight Mode and back, i get a connection immediately. But on start of MSN Messenger, it loses the connection again and does the same loop like before. Only a softreset brings my connection back to live.
Looks like a ROM issue. Maybe GSM or CE.
I am delighted to say that my replacement MDA Pro seems much more stable in the signal department. Although I still loose signal ocaasionally, I no beleive that is due to poor signal area and not the phone...
If you phone isloosing and reconnecting all the time then like mine it is probably faulty! Hopefully the ROM upgrades will sort out the last few issues I'm having!!
I love this phone!!
Same problem with JASJAR
People still have this problem? i'm using radio 1.03.01. When i used the original firmware, the phone part would lock up (Would get the busy - wait 15 seconds and try again, but it would never clear - had to soft reset)
With the 1.03.01 radio, i still get disconnected, but it'll find the signal again after a few retries - which is very bad! I rely on the phone at work, and people can't get through when it's disconnected. I have full signal strength (4 bars) so it's a software/hardware problem.
It looks like maybe it happens more frequently when charging or activesync'ing, than when it's disconnected from usb.
Can anyone confirm having the same problem, and it getting better or FIXED with the new radio firmware? If not, i'm going to have to return it.
Michael
I am using radio version 1.04.02 on the O2 exec, although i use a Vodafone SIM (supplied by work!). Mine suffers from the same problem, mainly at home, which is a very odd signal area for Vodafone. I can go from no signal to full signal to none again, and yes, sometimes it drops completely and needs a soft reset - bingo! full signal again.
Switching the network type from auto to GSM does seem to make the unit a little happier, but i need to use WCDMA when possible, so i leave mine on auto and live with the dropouts!
Lets hope the next rom fixes the problem.
Cheers
Paul
I have the same problem with my XDA and O2. a soft reset nor a full reset have been able to fix the problem. is the new rom version available as yet?
Hi all,
I'm currently experiencing a problem where my Softbank X01ht drops off the cellular network because I live in a low strength area, and takes forever, if at all, to automatically connect back to the network, even if I move into an area where I know the cellular strength is high.
If I manually turn off the phone portion of the hermes, and reconnect, then it happily detects the cellular network and connects. In other words, after disconnecting, it acts as though there is no network in range at all, even though I know there is.
This seems to have started after I upgraded my radio rom to version 1.20 from 1.07. Prior to the upgrade, I know it connected back to the network quite quickly after it dropped out. Has anyone else experienced this with the 1.20 Radio Rom? I currently have the Imate jasjam rom installed on my phone with the 1.04 bootloader.
Unsure if this is related, but the area that I live in has a weak UMTS network, but a relatively decent GPRS network. I'm thinking the phone is getting confused over which network to connect too.
It also seems that if I'm in an area with a pretty strong cellular strength, it doesn't drop out? Would I benefit from downgrading to the 1.16 Radio Rom?
Thanks in advance all.
Gene
I can also confirm that things added with that after a soft reset sometime it cant detect network..i have to manualy turn off/on the radio part....generelly it occures if i reset the set just after making a call or just getting disconnected from edge...
the previous 2 radio that i used 1.16 and 1.08 didnt suffer from those probs...
but the main benifit of 1.20 radio that i get is EDGE speed i can pump upto 220Kb (22-24 KB) download speed in flat when connected to pc as wireless modem but with the previous radios i can barely go 160Kb and the speed did uped/down regularly...
and somewhat strange with this 1.20 radio i cant search for network list manually when even i go to manual in network after sometime i get cant read error...but previous radios where ok in that par too...
and the last benifeat that i get with 1.20 is now the SIM STK menu is working.....

Thanks sajib,
Glad I'm not the only one experiencing it. For me, however, it only occurs when it looses connection to the cellular network. After every soft reset so far, it has connected to the cellular network automatically. To me it doesn't seem to even search for the network. That is, after loosing connection, it is resigned to the fact that it can't connect to a network, so doesn't even try, unless I force it too. I think I have seen it connect automatically once or twice, but either way, it takes at least 10-20 minutes, sometimes it never connects, and I force a manual reconnect by turning off the phone and turning it back on. So is this a known problem with the 1.20 Radio Rom?
Try this...
I had the same problem on my TyTn. Took forever to WiFi connect. Then I found this registry setting:
[HKLM\Comm\TIACXWLN1\Params]
"dot11ShortPreambleInvoked"=dword:00000001
Now my WiFi time-to-connect seems much faster.

Hi!
Thanks for the advice, but mine isn't a Wifi problem, but a problem with connecting to the cellular network.
Or do you think that your connecting to the WiFi network and the cellular network are one in the same?
i am using the 1.20 radio as well, but cant say that i have had any of the said problems... i have the cingular 8525 and have used the 2 latest cingular roms, the aku2.3 and 2.6.. but i did have some of the same problems with i used cingulars 1.16 radio

Do you commonly get cellular network disconnects? I find that if I'm moving around the city or driving around in the car, the network connection is maintained, and sometimes will automatically find the network if it does get disconnected. However, it is only when I am home that the phone disconnects and doesn't try to reconnect once it has been disconnected.
Any idea of what might have caused this issue with you with the 1.16 Radio Rom? Possibly something to do with the AKU version? I'm using AKU 2.3.
Thanks,
Gene

I too have the original problem but have not upgraded the radio ROM. I have the T-Mobile Vario II (sorry not sure what ROM that is) but often when I move from an area of either very weak or no signal to an area with a signal (coming out of a shielded building) I too get the same problem. Initially the phone shows weak (or even strong) signal strength but when I try to make a call I get the box up on the phone screen telling me it cannot connect. I have found that eventually it will, when left to it's own devices, get itself sorted out and allow a connection. But it is invariably quicker turing off the phone (via comm manager) then back on - this always results in a valid connection.
Perhaps the problem that you describe is not related just to the 1.20 Radio ROM upgrade?

Hi Tony,
It could possibly be an application or the ROM itself causing the problem, however, I think its the radio rom in my case, simply because this problem only started occuring after I upgraded to the 1.20 Radio Rom. Previously on the 1.07 Radio rom, the phone would connect automatically and immediately. Also I just performed a hard reset after I discovered this problem, and it still seems to be occurring...
I also am sure that after a long while the phone reconnects, I have seen it try reconnect a couple of times. But then again, a couple of times I've left it for 10-30 minutes, and it hasn't reconnected. Unsure of exactly how it chooses to reconnect and when it tries to reconnect. You would think it would try reconnect constantly after a specified period, but in my case it seems very random.

i actually get pretty solid coverage whether moving or stationary. especially at home since i live not a quarter mile from a cingular tower and i dont think its necessarily related to the aku version since i have gotten the same result with either 2.3 or 2.6. But i can say for sure that the cingular 1.16 radio is junk my biggest complaint was gsm calls cutting out and on my calls on 3G had a very weird digitized background noise, kinda sounded like a bad digital echo... 1.20 fixed all of that for me

When I'm roaming around my connection always seems to be sustained. e.g, I've been checking my phone ever 1hour for about 24 hours, and have yet to see my signal lost. Is it possible that the phone is getting confused over which band to connect to? As I said in my first post, I have a relatively weak 3G/UMTS signal from my home (1-2 bars), and a relatively strong GPRS signal (3-4 bars). Presumably the phone is UMTS-preferred, and uses GPRS as a secondary.
I saying this, even if I go to another area which usually has 5 bars UMTS signal, I haven't seen the phone immediately connect. This was after about 10-15minutes waiting in that area.

yes, the phone is set to prefer the UMTS bands.. have you tried setting the band manually instead of it letting it autosearch? you can do it in the phone settings menu or use the app listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844
Guys here is my situation. I have a Cingular 8525 for some time now I noticed that it was dropping signal and then recovering it I thought it was a radio problem but I changed numerous radios and it didn't fix the issue. Last night I noticed that it wasn't picking up any signal, on turning it on I noticed that I had No GSM I tried the way in the Wiki but I am unable to flash using the radio 1.16 to it I unchecked Allow USB connections but for some reason I cannot flash the radio. I started the phone attempted to flash the phone with several other radios and it just hangs. On rebooting I see NO GSM but when my phone starts up I see it reads the network but I cannot do anything else no calls nothing. Is there another way to flash the radio to my device or is the radio just dead? If so I have another 8525 thats not working can the radio part of it be changed?
Regards
It seems your phone is toggling between 3G and the older GPRS. By default, the 8525 automatically selects 3G if it is available. If you move out of 3G range (considering 3G support nationwide isn't great yet), which will happen often, you will lose signal temporarily and either switch to GPRS or regain a 3G signal. Currently I default my phone to use GPRS just because i can't be bothered with having to deal with dropping signal/calls as often as i used to with the automatic setting. There is a free tool called BandSwitch which can accomplish this for you. The newer version (2.1) is not free but if you can get your hand on the older version which is, it'll work satisfactorily well. I hope this solves your problem.
I had the same problem and nothing worked for me.
Try different solutions posted my various users and see if anytihng works for you.
I think it is a hardware radio problem and probably the only solution is to change the motherboard.
If it is still under warranty - get it done. If not, you are out of luck.
Hi everyone, my HD2 just stopped working with no signal at all.and shows a exclamation all the time, sim cards are no problem. i've updated the phone with official sw, still have this problem at the beginning.
has the phone been blacklisted?
is the phone turned on in wireless mode in settings? ( ya never no)
is it still under warranty?
My HD2 has done the exact same thing, just shows an !
it doesnt even try to find a signal.
phone was a tmobile UK version, which was unlocked to use any network.
the problem has literly just happened today.
have tried different offical roms, and different sim cards.

Just phoned my provider in regards to my phone, quoted the emei and have been told the phone is blacklisted.
they are sending a request to have it unbarred. will post the outcome.
I have had this happen alot with Vodaphone UK. This is a brand new number so doubt it has been black listed.
I can get this working my turning the phone to airplane mode then back to phone mode, this most of the time makes the phone look for a signal.
Usually happens to me when there is no signal like in a tunnel, the phone does not seem to try looking for the network until you force it to.
This is possibly a fault with the timeout of the HTC HD2. Could be once it tries to connect when out of signal the device gives up after a number of attemtps.
Does anyone know?t

I was searching before posting for just this problem.
It is really irritating me. The phone can jump from deciding there is no signal to sometimes even going to full-bar "H"!
I hav currently resorted to turning off 3G as at least that way I am eliminating the idiocy of it prefering 0/1 bar of "H" vs near full non-3G reception for calls.
Even so at times it will just sit there for ages having dropped a signal with the exclamation showing and then jump back to life [in the same place] with good reception.
I am also on Voda UK
Mine has done that twice, in 4 months. 1 time phone was turned off inside connections, no idea how? 2nd time I just shut off, & back on, signal was back, hasn't happened in months now?
so does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I've checked with my service provider and my phone is not blacklisted...
My SIM card seems fine and everything else seems fine, except it keeps giving me the exclamation mark.. most of the time i notice it's when i get out of the lift (but that could be because that's when i usually check my phone before I put it on my desk).
There are many occasions (probably 5+ times/day) where I turn my phone on (ie, off standby) after it's been sitting on my desk for an hour or so to check calls, etc and there is that dreaded exclamation mark.
I know the area around my desk does have a signal because the guy next to me on the same network has a strong 3G and 2G signal.
Sometimes going to Comms to turn airplane mode on and off to force it to look for a signal works, but sometimes it doesnt.
I've tried soft-resetting, hard-resetting, using different radios, different ROMs, etc and still no good.
Funny thing is, it's only been happening over the past 2-3 weeks.. and I'm not sure what triggered it.
It's really starting to frustrate the crap outta me and friends have been asking why they can't get through...
Any help would be appreciated.. . I'm trying to avoid sending it to the HTC service centre if I can because they're slooooow and the stories I've read about my local centre are pretty bad (when I had my HTC diamond).
Solved:upgrade your rom everything gonna b in place
Upgrade to what?
I am having the same problem, for a hile now. Been fiddling with phone settings parameters, trying to see the effect. One particular combination so far seems to work. Try this: Comm manager --> Phone --> Tap Change Phone settings --> Menu --> Advanced network --> GPRS --> select CHAP authentication --> then CSD Line Type --> select Data rate 9600(v.110). Then OK, Back, and Done with the Comm manager. Observe if the network pickup performance (switching from non-existent H or 3G to E or G) works better for you after that. It does better for me, so far.
I'm having the same problem - NO SIGNAL
Any solution?
i recently discovered that for my problem, it was to do with the earphones. Not sure why, but it only seems to happen to me not long after i plug or unplug the earphones.
I usually have my HD2 on my desk with the music going while I work, but every hour or so, I unplug the earphones and take my phone by itself out with me for a cigarette.. then I come back and plug the earphones back in.
Often when I'm about to head downstairs, I turn on the screen while the music is still going and i see the "!"... as soon as I unplug the earphones, the bars indicating reception comes back straightaway!
Not sure if it's a coincidence or whether it really does have something to do with the earphone/earphone jack.

I have just bitten the bullet and accepted the phone is crap at swithing between 2G and 3G signal so turn off 3G in a couple of locations when I know I get this problem [home - I can use WIFI] and my office.
HTC would not be drawn at all on un updated Radio and this problem being "fixed" in USA ROMs
Fixed
the very easy fix is to do this :
settings _ personal _ phone _ network then make network selection to manual ,, then choose ur provider,,, then u will have signal,, after that u can turn it back to automatic
100% working
Thanks a "fix" not a solution.
Rather silly to have to jump through hoops to make a mobile phone recognise available reception
Have the same problem
I have the same problem now, any solution for that?
